Chapter 29

Jody had decided it was best if she brought Sam and Dean back to her home to recover from the whole ordeal. Besides the fact that she missed having her boys around, she claimed they kept it lively in her dull house. Her husband had died awhile ago from sickness and she'd longed to have someone else to keep her company (besides Bobby) for years after the incident. She was glad when Ellen agreed it was for the best. Bobby and Jody came on the same day to pick up each of their angels and Dean's stomach dropped.

Though Castiel was still apprehensive around him, Dean didn't want to leave him. The night they'd spent in Dean's make shift room where Castiel had been preening and licking his wings and neck had brought Dean back to a simpler time when mills were a thing of tales and bad dreams and growing up seemed so far away. He remembered lying in a cage for years as he grew from an extremely small baby to a child's size seemingly overnight and just waiting to be adopted. And he had been, by the nicest man ever before Bobby had taken him. He remembered being the one to take care of Sam and Castiel when the young orphaned fledgling had been broken. And now Dean was broken and leaving for his mundane life back with Jody meant there was no to take care of him. Not in the way he wanted at least. Jody was an excellent mother to him and Sam, but in no way could she provide him the same comfort Castiel had the night before.

Sam felt the same way Dean was unconsciously feeling. When he'd woken up beside Gabriel that morning he'd felt as though the Heavens had opened up and rained light down upon him. That they'd shown him his purpose and it was laying asleep right next to him. Sam had been extremely hesitant ever since Gabriel's profanity at him at the mill the night they'd rescued Dean and Anna. He'd stayed away from the Omega and practically avoided him until Gabriel had declared a hugely out of character truce in their little silent argument regarding their sleeping situations and Sam had to admit he'd liked the arrangement. He'd enjoyed the warmth of Gabriel's smaller, but well defined frame next to him under the covers, just as it had been when they were babies at the pet shop together. He'd thought about those times when Gabriel had been twice as guarded and even a little scared of him. Sam had always bided his time though and he supposed once this whole mess was behind them he could just as easily do it again.

"It was good seeing you boys again," Ellen and Jo hugged all four of them before Ellen spoke up. "We owe you everything. You will go down in Alpha and Omega history."

"Thanks Ellen," Dean smiled a little, his muzzle scars almost shone in the sunlight and he squinted a bit too. He'd almost forgotten what sunlight looked like. "We'll visit again we promise. Besides we've got our brother and a few other friends here now."

"Yeah," Sam nodded. "We'll definitely be back."

Castiel and Gabriel nodded in agreement and Gabriel quickly shied away when Sam's eyes met his. Sam sighed and looked away as well. Dean caught sight of their actions, but he couldn't judge his brother. He was acting the same way with Castiel.

"You boys ready?" Jody asked Dean and Sam. They nodded and climbed into the back of her cruiser. Bobby held the door open for Castiel and Gabriel as they climbed into the back of his vintage Chevy and both cars started their engines. Castiel slumped against the window and Gabriel leaned back in his seat. Sam leaned his elbow on the armrest and Dean stared straight ahead. The cars went in opposite directions towards their residences and Dean also remembered something else. He remembered when Castiel and he had first been separated this way and how they'd both stared out of the back of the cars as they'd pulled away from the other.

Dean looked back once in hopes to recreate the memory. No such luck, Castiel was leaning up against the window and Dean sighed in defeat as he closed his eyes, trying to picture what it would be like going back to such a hum drum life.

He didn't even imagine that he'd know how.

Ron hated police stations. He hadn't spent much time in one, but the thought of them had always made his skin crawl. He'd been held overnight in a witness protection sort of thing until Crowley and Ruby's bodies had been found and his father had been transported to a maximum security prison where he'd be spending the rest of his waking days. Ron sighed as the rhythmic Led lights flashed under cracked glass and as Kevin stared over at him, worried. Kevin had merely been an object to his father, but he was so much more to Ron. Kevin chirped sadly, though he knew Ron couldn't understand his language, and he took Ron's hand in his own.

Ron looked over, finding the gesture comforting and he smiled sincerely. He'd lost everyone. His mother had died. His father was in prison. His two uncles and all of his cousins were in the mill business so there was no going to them. Kevin was the last ounce of salvation he had left. The only who'd loved Ron unconditionally through everything. Ron had never been one for settling down and being a sappy romantic, but he could easily live with spending the rest of his days by Kevin's side. Ron was broken from his daydreams when the door to their room opened and an officer motioned for the pair to follow him. Ron stood first and took Kevin's hand again as the two exited the room and followed the police officer to his desk.

"Your file claims you're eighteen," the officer said. "So in all technicalities I am not obligated to push you to family or anyone else. You are legally responsible for yourself. I just wish to know where you are going so that it does not interfere with our continuing investigation of Crowley's mill and any others affiliated with your family."

Ron loved being reminded of his family's scorn on society.

"Trust me," Ron stood up and motioned for Kevin to do so too. "I'm going to run as far away from all that as I can. I am nothing like my family."

He was waiting for the officer to say something clichéd, but he kept his mouth shut as his eyes followed Ron out the door. The teen could feel them on him even after the door shut behind him and Kevin. The cool night air hit Ron and he shook a little as they walked in the direction of their house. Ron closed his eyes and tried to block out the emotions coming over him like a wall of white water waiting to break and knock him over. He only opened them when he didn't feel the cold anymore. Kevin had let his wings engulf Ron in a sort of embrace that also doubled as a make shift coat. Ron smiled at his lover and stared ahead at the heat and steam rising from the city vents. They made the rest of the journey home in record time just before an onslaught of rain hit.
