As Ja-Kal had guessed, Lexie did indeed attempt to avoid him. Attempt was of course the operative word here since that was indeed what she did. As it so happened, she began to avoid him right after the kiss. Right around the time that Nefer-tina and Armon returned with food and drinks for everyone. She took her food, which consisted of a small portion of Chinese food and a strawberry lemonade and began eating.
She didn't look at him, and only spoke to him if he happened to have asked her something.
The rest of the time she was utterly, painfully silent. Or at least she was up until she finally noticed some people in the crowd and let out a groan before pushing her food and drink away and getting to her feet.
Four pairs of eyes following her movements as the people that she noticed came up to their table. Several of the people, Ja-Kal and the others recognized immediately as the kids of their new neighbors.
They were snotty bothersome brats. Even their princess had seemed to think so, though she said very little on the subject since she had been otherwise occupied when they had introduced themselves to the lot of them.
"Miss Carnovan, what a pleasant surprise. I didn't think my friends and I would run into you at a place like this." The speaker's name was James Matthews. He was sixteen and a chronic sex offender if the crap Lexie was picking up on going through his head was any indication at all.
Quickly settling her mask in place, Lexie offered the group of teens a forced smile.
"Wow so your James's new neighbor," Another teen said as he reached out to touch her and quickly had his hand slapped away by Lexie. "Ow, hey what was that for?"
"I don't like being touched." She replied in a mockingly innocent tone as another guy laughed and said,
"Dude. Didn't you know. Word on the streets is that the girl has like a phobia or something about being touched. She absolutely hates physical contact of any kind."
Lexie shot a glare in the bigmouth's direction and wished she could pop him one right in the mouth. That was a weakness of hers that she preferred for others not to know anything of. And from the sudden look of interest on James's face as well as his little friends- the two found it far more interesting than they should and would likely attempt something physical with her since she was now seen as much more of a challenge to them.
The fools. Lexie thought in annoyance as James gave her a fake apologetic look before asking, "Are you and your friends shopping? Or just hanging out?"
"Neither."
"Oh? So you merely came to grab a bite."
"Nope." Lexie said automatically, quickly growing tired of his games.
"Oh? So then why-"
She cut him off at the knee as she spoke, "What I choose to do is none of your damned business kid. Now leave. I have nothing more to say to you or your friends." And then she turned and grabbed a few shopping bags and looked at her guardians, "We're leaving." She said in a tone that brooked no arguments, causing the four to exchange a look before getting up and grabbing their bags.
Or in Armon's case the food that he then stuffed into the bags, and the group began to follow Lexie when the boy that she had been talking too called out. "Oh hey! My parents wanted to talk to you about a business proposition."
To which Lexie called out, "The answer is no!" As she kept on walking at a brisk pace, a part of her worried that the kids might try to follow them out to her car.
Luckily for them, they didn't bother. Which was good because with Lexie's nerves as frayed as they currently were she might very well have mowed them down with her car and left them to bleed out in the parking lot or something.
Once at the car, Lexie unlocked it and none too gracefully climbed inside and tossed her bags in the floor on the passenger side and sat there for a full minute stewing as the mummies climbed into the vehicle warily and waited for her to say or do something.
And when she finally did it was a feral sounding growl that escaped her as she slammed her hands against the steering wheel of the car several times until she simply fell back in her seat with her eyes closed and her arms crossed over her chest.
"Um... Princess..." Armon began when she half turned in her seat and gave him a dark look that had him shutting up and sitting back in his seat so that he could fidget with the hem of his shirt nervously.
"Sorry Armon. Guys. I hate the fact that I pulled rank on you back there... But those guys are sick in the head and are planning something that is likely to hurt us badly if we just sit back and do nothing." Lexie finally said as she started up the car and put it in reverse so that she could pull out of her parking space.
The mummies were silent and contemplative as she drove for about a half mile before anyone bothered to speak.
"Princess. Lexie, you know that we will not allow any harm to come to your life-"
"And that's exactly what upsets me. You have to protect me from having my life taken. But what if something happens that is a threat to my well being and not my life? What do you do then?"
Everyone got quiet again and the girl let out another growl before muttering a somewhat disappointed grim sounding, "Thought so," As she turned the corner and drove another half mile before parking the car in front of a three story red brick building and then dug her cell phone out of her pants pocket and flipped it open and hit the number two button and then put it against her ear and said, "Richard. Yeah hi it's me Lex, think you can grab Christian and come out front? No everything is okay for the moment. But I need to talk to you guys like ASAP. Great, thanks man." She said as she took the phone away from her ear and then closed it as two, tall men with shoulder length hair wearing navy blue uniforms came walking out of the front door and made a beeline for the car.
Lexie turned and quietly told the four that if they wanted in on what she had to say that they could listen, but she needed them to not ask many questions. And then quickly climbed out of the car and practically threw herself into the arms of the first man that reached her.
"Lexie!" The man exclaimed happily as he caught her and swung her around before putting her down on her feet again and letting his friend get in a hug. "It's been forever and a day since the last time we heard from you kiddo. What have you been up too?"
"You know. Stuff." Lexie said with a slight shrug of her delicate shoulders as his friend released her.
Her reply caused the two men to exchange a glance with each other before they both looked back at her and crossed their arms over their chests and said in unison, "Spill it kid."
Before one of them tacked on quietly, "What did you call us for?"
