Filler Chapter: Déjà vu
POV Peter's
In Dream State
I opened the door to the Carter Residence and walked inside. I brushed my hand across an old desk, but then I saw a tall, brunette woman. She was in front of some men in black.
"You're coming with us," one of the men said.
"Never! I'm never coming with you!" she exclaimed. She dropped a smoke pellet, making her disappear. As she tried to run away, another man in black grabbed her.
End of Dream State
I woke up sweating. I rubbed my hands against my face.
What was that just now? I thought.
I opened the door and noticed Uncle Jim was taking Aelita somewhere. Jeremy opened his door too.
"Aelita, what's going?" Jeremy asked.
"It's – uh – nothing," Aelita replied.
Everyone opened their door.
"Okay, go back to bed everybody. Go on," Uncle Jim ordered. I left my door opened. Uncle Jim walked by me.
"Peter, didn't you hear me?" Uncle Jim asked.
"Uncle Jim, can...I... go to the nurse too?" I stuttered.
"Yes, follow me," Uncle Jim said taking me and Aelita to the nurse.
The next morning in front of the cafeteria
"It was day time, there were these men in black coming after me. It was horrible," Aelita said.
"In my dream, there were men in black, too. Except they weren't chasing me, they were chasing some woman. She tried to escape, but I'm not sure if she did," I explained.
"You must have had a nightmare. You shouldn't get all worked up. It happens to everyone," Yumi reassured.
"Yeah, it could mean nothing, Peter," Jade said.
Odd leaned on Ulrich's shoulder.
"Yeah, that's right. It happens to me all the time. One night, I dreamt I was on a date with Sissi. Can you think of a worse dream?" Odd asked.
"Sounds like nightmare city to me," Patricia joked.
"Speaking of which, how's your internet dating going, Odd?" Yumi asked.
"Great! There's this fantastic girl that I really flipped over, too. And I just found out she's a student right here at Kadic Academy! It's totally crazy. I see her every day and I have no idea who she is," Odd replied.
"And what's worse is he's been up all night exchanging chat messages with her. I didn't sleep at all thanks to him," Ulrich said.
"She sends me these messages that are so romantic. I mean, like, poems. Listen to this: "Love is not looking at one another, it's—"
"It's looking together in the same direction, huh?" Jeremy asked.
"Hey! How do you know that?" Odd asked.
"It's a poem by the guy who wrote The Little Prince. She may be romantic, but she's not very original," Jeremy replied.
"Okay, it's time to get wet. Are you going to cut swimming again, Einstein, huh?" Ulrich asked.
"No, I can't. Jim has already warned me. 'No more dumb excuses, you hear?'" Jeremy replied, getting up and heading to the cafeteria.
"Great! We'll finally get to see that bulk athletic body of yours. I can't wait," Odd said.
"You may be surprised," Jeremy said, holding his thumb up.
At swimming
"The human body is made up of 90% water, and that is why it floats because, contrary to what you might think, water floats," said Uncle Jim, while pacing back and forth.
"Don't forget Archimedes' principle "Anybody plunged into a liquid and a...um, is, uh, um –"
"Comes out wet?" Odd asked.
"Yeah, right. No, that's not it! Now, no one has to be scared of the water, unless of course you're lost at sea, so...somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean. In that case, you would certainly have the right to say 'Wow, that's a lot of water there.'"
"Tanya? Sophie. Yeah, she kind of fits the profile of all of those chat messages," Odd said.
"What makes you think it's a girl in our class? It might just as easily be Milly or Tamiya," Ulrich said.
"Ulrich's right, Odd. It could be anyone," I said.
"– Which reminds me of when I was a salvage diver," Uncle Jim said.
"You used to be salvage diver, Jim?" Nicolas asked.
"I'd rather not talk about it," Uncle Jim replied.
"Azra? No way. She's not a first-year student either, I forgot," Odd said.
"Maybe she's in Yumi's class. What if it's Anise Fica? Next to her, you're a real shrimp," Ulrich said.
"Stern, Della Robbia. I'm sorry if I'm boring you. Alright on deck. Let's see what you can do," Uncle Jim said.
I started to get a headache.
Uncle Jim blew the whistle, Ulrich and Odd jumped into the pool.
My headache started getting worse.
In dream state
The woman pushed the man in black away and ran down the stairs. More men came as she tried to run out her door.
End of dream state
I groaned in pain, tumbling into the pool. Everything became dark.
Later in Aelita's room
"This time, it was much more detailed. There were still the men in black, but I was at the Hermitage," Aelita said while lying in her bed. Odd was typing on his keyboard, Patricia was holding onto me.
"The doctor said you and Peter were passed out from the cold," Yumi said.
"That may be, but what about the visions? Where are they coming from Jeremy?" Aelita asked.
"I haven't had the slightest idea, although I'm sure that it's no big deal. The best thing is for you and Peter to get some rest. We'll talk about it later."
"Right. I've got to go. I'm already late," Yumi said.
"Us too. Mrs. Hertz is going to kill us," Jeremy said, looking at his watch.
"Patricia, Jade, help me to my room?" I asked.
"Yeah, we got you," Jade replied.
"Wait a minute! I'm just about to find out who she is," Odd said, typing on his laptop.
"Come on, Odd, you can talk to your cyber girlfriend after class," Ulrich said, shutting the laptop.
Jade and Patricia walked me out of the room. Jade opened the door. They helped me get to bed.
"Feel better Peter," Jade said as she left.
"Do you want me to miss class? I can be here if you need me," Patricia said.
"No, it's okay. Go to class. And Patricia… I never did say thank you for being with me when I was under the tree. I've been thinking...if there's someone you'd like to date, I would consider it." I smiled weakly.
"Thank you, Peter, but we'll talk about that later," Patricia said, walking out and closing the door quietly.
A few minutes later I decided to get up from the bed. I walked out of the room and made my way toward the path to the old houses.
The only way I'm going to solve this, is by going back to the Carter Residence, I thought.
In dream
I focused on the men in black more closely and tried getting a better view of the woman, but I couldn't place any idea on who she was. The house flashed in front of the Carter Residence, which was across from the Hermitage.
End of Dream
I made it to where I could see both houses in plain view. I saw Aelita going in The Hermitage. I made my way into the Carter Residence.
My eyes flashed from an old dusty view to a brand new view. The flash ended, I walked to one part of the room that looked like a kitchen. It was torn up, probably from the men in black. I went into the living room, and another flash happened. The woman from my dream was playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." She stopped playing as she turned around. She wore a necklace, with the letter "C" on it. The vision went away.
"Calm down, Peter. Just calm down," I said to myself.
I walked up the stairs, where the rooms were. I hadn't gotten a chance to look at them, but they were identical to the rooms of the Hermitage. The room had two colors: pink and blue. But it was old, my mind then flashed to one where it was brand new, and brighter. The flash ended, I put my hand on my head.
"You've got to calm yourself down," I told myself.
My phone started ringing, I picked it up.
"Patricia?" I asked.
"Peter, where are you? Jeremy is looking for Aelita and you," Patricia said.
"Aelita should be at the Hermitage. I'm at the Carter Residence," I said.
"You two should be resting," Patricia said.
"Patricia, there's something not right with these visions. It's like they're haunting me. I have to figure them out," I explained.
"Okay, look, you should know that Xana's on the offensive. The others are already at the factory. Don't move. I'll come and get you. We'll meet up with Jeremy and Aelita, too," Patricia said.
"Patricia, you know I'm old enough to make it to the factory by myself," I said.
"Okay, but try to hurry," Patricia said. I hung up the phone.
My head started hurting. I flashed back. I saw three men in black outside the window, I backed away.
"Peter, come with me quickly," the woman said, holding out her hand. She disappeared.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Are you there?" I walked out of the room and back downstairs. I saw three men in black. The door was opened. I ran downstairs, my heart pacing. I made my way for the door, I opened it. There was a hidden door by some bushes, my mind flashed.
"Come, this way," the woman said. The flash ended. I opened the door and saw some stairs.
It led straight to the factory, and I saw Aelita.
"Aelita, how did you…?" I asked.
"There was a passageway at the Hermitage," Aelita replied.
"Me too. There was one at the Carter Residence," I said. We swung down the ropes and landed. We walked into the elevator. Aelita pressed the button.
The elevator went down, and it stopped. The doors opened.
"Ah, there you two are at last. Hey, Cinderella and Prince Charming, we said midnight on the dot," Odd joked.
"Aelita, are you okay?" Jeremy asked.
"Peter, are you okay?" Jade asked.
We closed our eyes briefly, steeling ourselves.
Aelita said, "I had, um, some more visions. I saw a man, and it was – "
"I also saw a woman, and it was –" I tried to explain but was interrupted by Jeremy.
"Who?"
"Franz Hopper," Aelita replied.
"And our sister, Erica Carter," I said.
"Huh, are you sure?" Yumi asked.
"I know it sounds crazy, but I'm sure it was him," Aelita said.
"It was definitely mine and Patricia's sister, except she was older," I said.
"What if this is Xana's offensive?" Odd asked.
"What?" Aelita and I asked.
"I mean these strange visions," Odd replied.
"Exactly. Xana is perfectly capable of stimulating your subconscious reburial cortex through the viruses that link you to him," Jeremy explained. "And from that, he can paradoxically stimulate you two an artificial sleep and involuntary psyche that goes with it."
"In English?" Patricia asked.
"In short, you mean Xana's showing you two free movies?" Odd asked.
"Why?" Ulrich asked.
"Let's not hang around to find out. Let's go deactivate the tower," Odd said.
We headed down to the scanners. Patricia, Jade, and I went in first.
"Transfer: Patricia. Transfer: Jade. Transfer: Peter. Scanner: Patricia. Scanner: Jade. Scanner: Peter. Virtualization!" Jeremy exclaimed.
A bright white light enveloped me. We landed safely in the desert sector. Odd and Ulrich were soon virtualized.
"The activated tower is due south," Jeremy informed.
"Here come your vehicles."
Jeremy materialized the Overboard, Overbike, and three Overwings. Aelita and Yumi were materialized.
"The girls are here now. Don't waste any time," Jeremy said.
Everyone boarded on their vehicles. Ulrich, Odd, and Jade went ahead. Aelita and I stayed behind.
"Coming, Aelita?" Yumi asked.
"Peter, is everything okay?" Patricia asked.
I nodded, hopping onto my sisters Overwing. Aelita hopped on Yumi's, and we made our way toward the tower.
"Xana's monsters up ahead, you see them?" Jeremy asked.
"We would have to be as nearsighted as you to not to see them," Odd replied.
Two Tarantulas and four Bloks were in the way.
"Odd, you and Patricia handle the Bloks. Yumi, Jade, and I will take care of the Tarantulas.
"Roger that," Patricia said. The others made their way toward the monsters, but Aelita and I looked at the edge of the sector.
"The others aren't going to happy," I said to Aelita.
"I know, but you know what we've got to do Peter," Aelita said. I nodded, we headed for the edge of the sector.
"What's going on?" Jeremy asked.
The pod for sector five appeared.
"Aelita, Peter, what are you two doing?" Jeremy asked.
"Sorry, Jeremy, but I want some answers. I have to find out where these visions are coming from," Aelita explained.
"Me too, Einstein, I need to know. I just don't feel right about them," I said as the pod swooped us up.
It brought us to sector five. We made our way into the corridor. We were going to try to find the key but, unfortunately, the Scyphozoa's grabbed us by surprise and lifted us into the air. My eyes were staring blankly at the ceiling. I could feel everything going dark… but thankfully Aelita and I were dropped. It looked like Odd and Patricia managed to use their attacks through the moving terrain. Odd and Patricia were devirtualized by the ground and ceiling, smashing them.
"Odd!" Yumi exclaimed.
"Patricia!" Jade exclaimed.
The Scyphozoa's were going to try and attack us again, but Ulrich, along with Jade, defended Aelita and I. Ulrich used his sword, and Jade used her fans to cut the tentacles. The Scyphozoa's retreated.
"Only ten seconds before the end of the countdown," Jeremy informed.
Yumi managed to kick the key, stopping the ceiling and ground from becoming moving blocks. It solidified into an easy path.
"Let's go, princess," Ulrich said to Aelita.
"Come on, Peter," Jade said.
We made our way to the elevator.
"Here comes the elevator," Aelita said.
"Now or never," I said.
We jumped. The elevator brought us to the entrance of the panels.
"As soon as you get to the celestial dome, get out of sector five and head for the desert sector fast! Okay, Aelita, Peter?" Jeremy asked. The entrance opened. Aelita and I ran behind Yumi, Jade, and Ulrich who hopped onto their vehicles.
Aelita and I activated the panels. We began our search.
Ever since I've been copying what Aelita does, I've been getting a whole lot better at this, I thought.
I followed what Aelita was doing.
"Aelita, Peter. What did I tell you two? We're not getting any data," Jeremy said.
We continued searching.
"Aelita, you have to deactivate the tower. Peter, you need to go with her and protect her, you might get a new power," Jeremy said.
"Aelita!" Ulrich urged, gesturing her onto the bike.
"Peter, please come on!" Jade urged.
"This will only take a few seconds," Aelita replied to Ulrich.
"I'm sorry, Jade. I need to find out," I said.
"Aelita and Peter, it's one of Xana's traps. He created these visions to lure you two over to sector five. Give me the controls!" Jeremy urged.
We still continued searching.
"Aelita, Peter? Did you two hear me? Aelita? Peter? Ulrich, Yumi, and Jade, grab them by force," Jeremy said.
"What do you want us to do? Knock them out?" Yumi asked.
"It won't be necessary. I'm sure I'll find what I'm looking for," Aelita replied.
"Same here," I said.
Yumi, Ulrich, and Jade headed to face the mantas.
"Aelita, Peter. Even if you two do find the origin of these visions, what's the point of Xana taking away your memories from the both of you?" Jeremy asked.
We continued searching.
"I'm almost there," Aelita said.
"Me too, Einstein. Any minute," I said.
Aelita and I continued our search for the data, but we were unexpectedly grabbed by the Scyphozoa's. Thankfully, the Scyphozoa's were pushed by some mines, and we were released.
"Aelita, are you okay?" Yumi asked, going over to her.
"Peter, how about you? Jade asked, going over to me.
"It's time you deactivated the tower. Peter, I hope you get a new power," Yumi said.
Aelita hopped onto Ulrich's Overbike. Jade hopped onto her Overwing. I hopped on with her.
Unfortunately, we left Yumi, but we made our way toward a closed tunnel passage.
"The tunnels are open," Jeremy informed. The tunnel opened. Ulrich accelerated his Overbike, and Jade made her way toward the opening.
In the desert sector
We were back in the desert sector. Ulrich and Jade left Aelita and me to enter the tower. We stepped onto the first platform, lighting it up. We flew up to the second one. Aelita did a backflip, and we touched down on the second platform.
The panels popped up and we placed our hands on them.

"Tower deactivated," Aelita said, the files going down.
At the cafeteria
Aelita and I got our lunches. We sat down with the others.
"Hi, Aelita, Peter. Well, any more visions?" Yumi asked.
"Gone," Aelita replied.
"Yeah, completely," I replied as we sat down.
"You see? It was just a trap made by Xana," Jeremy said.
"I guess, but I would have still liked to know where those memories came from," Aelita said.
"Same here. The visions just had something about them," I said.
"I think that Xana must have made the whole thing up," Ulrich said.
"Or maybe the memories came from someone else, implanted in you two by Xana in order to scare you," Yumi suggested.
"That could be it," Jeremy replied to Yumi.
"So you're saying we have another enemy?" Patricia asked.
"You never know, Patricia," Jeremy said.
"It's really strange, though. I was really under the impression that I was reliving the events that I was seeing," Aelita explained.
"Yeah, me too. It felt so realistic," I said.
"That, however, can't be," Jeremy said.
"Yes, I know," Aelita said.
"So Odd, how's your cyber mystery girl?" Jade asked.
"She is too cool. I've really got it bad this time, guys. I'm going to meet her," Odd said, closing the laptop.
"When?" Yumi asked.
"Now, at the vending machines. Later," Odd said in a sing-song voice.
We looked curiously at one another.
"Somehow, I have a feeling that things won't go his way," Jade said. We all nodded.
Ulrich got up, leaving the cafeteria. I stayed, leaving myself with my thoughts.
I still feel that those visions were real and I think Aelita does too. That woman, was it really Erica? It couldn't have been. It didn't look anything like her. Could it be someone new….or was Xana really behind these visions? I hope I find out one day…. I thought.
And done! Hope everyone liked this chapter, more to come! Don't forget to review!
