Anymore and it would kill them both.
Merlin knew that much. He felt the blood trickle down his face.
He saw Mordred's face. He saw it stab Arthur.
Arthur Arthur Arthur.
Arthur.
For Arthur.
For Arthur, this was all for Arthur.
Arthur.
He had to do this. In fact he was ready to do this.
He ran forward. He ran forward and grabbed Mordred.
"We have to end this, Mordred. You know that," he hissed. Mordred stared at him.
"You wouldn't."
"Yes I would."
And Merlin blasted them both back with magic. They were over the edge, he could feel the wind hitting his face. He could feel the eyes peering up at him, and the pair glaring at him with a new-founded fear.
"Let's finish this."
"You're mad," Mordred whispered.
Merlin grinned. It was a grin of a crazed man, with wild eyes and the hint of his goofy grin. But blood painted his face and teeth. "You've only just realised?"
And he leaned sideways. To say he wasn't scared would be a lie. He was very scared.
Especially when out of the corner of his blue eyes, he caught Arthur's, staring back at him with a mixture of disbelief and horror.
He felt himself fall.
And he heard his friend scream.
"MERLIN! NO!"
Arthur ran to the edge. Gods no no no not again he'd lost him too much no no no …
Merlin had died so much recently Arthur would've laughed if it hadn't had been Merlin dying.
No. No. This was a nightmare.
He felt the scream tear at his throat, as he watched Merlin and Mordred tumble through the air. His hands groped where they had been mere moments before.
Too late.
Everything he did was too late.
And Arthur hit the ground.
Merlin felt himself fall but it felt like he was flying. In a way.
But by the fury of the younger man's face falling with him, he knew that in his flight this battle wasn't over. It wouldn't be over until one of them died.
And Merlin was determined to make sure that someone was not him.
There we go. Finally. Can I express my apologies? What about a chapter tomorrow? I swear.
I PROMISE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
