The portal was opening...
At that precise moment I recovered my consciousness. Before, I watched everything like it was happening in a movie, not feeling a part of it. Now I felt the cold wind blowing in my back. Where the hell the wind was coming? This bunker was closed.
That was when I realized that the portal was big enough to hold the bubble... the bubble which held Zafrina inside.
Zafrina who was taller than Emmett. Wait. Was she always that tall?
Her sweet voice spoke loud to everyone.
"I'm getting back my strength, the same way my brother is."
I turned around, looking for the black fog. Edward bumped my shoulder and pointed to the door. The black fog was leaving the room.
"Leave him. He is on a mission. I'm sorry for your partner, but his fate was written long time ago. From now on, I will be able to speak on my own. Bella, thanks for helping me, you'll be rewarded. Now we can continue with the ritual to complete the spell. I need that one of you find between the debris a wooden box. It has inside the vials with the blue and red elixirs."
We all turned to Laurent, who was shocked to hear about the elixir.
Zafrina looked to him. "Yeah, I know he hid them in this room. They were used for the ritual. The red one calls to the other side of the portal. The blue one strengthen the mind of the bridge."
Edward looked at her, he growled.
"That's her part on this plan. She's the only one able to do it. Her mind is a shield, that will serve as a bridge to my world."
His hold on me became tighter.
"What do you mean with shield? Bridge?" Was she talking about me?
"To open completely the portal I need to use your mind again. Right now, only our spiritual strength passed here. In order to be able to move the bodies and minds of your friends, we need to open completely the portal. Only then the exchange will be done."
Oh.
"But she's fragile!" Edward yelled to Zafrina, while keeping me glued to him.
"It's fine Edward, really." They waited twenty-five years to get Victoria and Harry back, it's the least I could do to help.
"But Bella, I won't let her harm you."
"No, really. I didn't feel a thing while she was in my mind. I feel fine."
The others were also worried. Carlisle came to me and lifted my head. "Look up Bella." He was looking at my pupils, everything must had been fine, because he nodded to Edward.
"Are you sure Bella? We don't know..." He said caressing my face, but I wasn't afraid. Zafrina shot a desperate look to me.
"I promise nothing will happen to her. Believe me Edward. I'm sure in my world my mother is equally desperate to get us back."
"What do you want me to do? Maybe if we knew all the details of your plan, Edward and the others would see that nothing wrong is happening to me."
Carlisle nodded, but he also stood between Zafrina's bubble and me, covering me from her.
"All right. You need to pour a bit of the red liquid on the fire pit. Bella needs to drink a few drops of the blue liquid. The shape shifter will hold her right hand and the vampire will hold her left hand. We will make the rest."
"Which is...?"
"I'm going to get in trance. My brother will bring back the body of your friend. When I get in touch with my world, the priest will call for the offering and my brother will throw your friend to the fire. With the offering completed, the force that brought me here will pull me back, sending your friends over here. Then one of you will spray water to the fire to extinguish it. The portal will close. The end."
"What if something goes wrong on the other side?"
"Oh no, our priest is very experienced. Nothing will go wrong if all you follow my instructions."
"When will Bella be free of your trance?"
"The moment I get in touch with my world. The connection won't be necessary after that. Believe me, I'll protect her. She had been so kind to me."
I saw all the Cullens looking to Edward, waiting for his approval; but instead, he turned to Laurent.
"Why do you want the blue elixir?"
"It's for my wife. A few years ago, one of our cases took a nasty turn, and the woman we trapped cursed my family. My wife, she lost her will. She's there but her mind is gone. It's like she is a living doll." Laurent exhaled. "She does as we ask, but nothing else. We just sit her in front of the TV. She likes cartoons. The blue elixir is supposed to help her."
James hugged him. "It's heartbreaking. My sister was so lively."
Oh my! That's why they agreed to come. They're family. One more reason to finish this. That woman deserves her medicine.
"I'll do it. I don't see a problem." I turned to Jacob. "You do as she says," and then turned to Edward. "And you help her. The sooner we do this, the sooner your sister will be back." Both nodded their agreement. "Well Zafrina, we're ready."
Jasper came to the front, with the wooden box open. "Who will pour the red elixir?" He passed Edward the blue one, and stared to Jacob who was getting nervous.
Zafrina looked to Jacob. "You will only hold her hand, and the three of you will stand in front of me. The others please stay around, but a couple of steps behind." Then she pointed to Jasper. "The shape-shifter will pour the red elixir. The vampire will give her a sip and pass the bottle to you again."
Jasper nodded.
I asked "Ready?" when an awful scream tore our attention from Zafrina. The black fog was in his corporeal form. Charlie was floating behind him, screaming and trying to move out from his hold to no avail.
"Now we're really ready." Zafrina said smiling.
We stood in front of her. Jacob held my right hand, and poured a bit of the red elixir to the pit. The flames grew and the fire changed its color to blue. Edward put the bottle on my mouth and I took a sip from the blue elixir. It didn't have a taste, just like water. Zafrina's lips were moving but I didn't hear a thing. I felt my eyes closing, but my mind was aware of everything around me. It was a weird sensation.
I felt heat coming from my hands, but Edward and Jacob stood serious and never moved their hands. Maybe it was only in my mind.
I finally started to hear Zafrina's chants. Her voice was hypnotic. I felt like my body was getting lighter and lighter. I looked down to check if my feet were on the ground because I felt like I was floating. I turned to look at Edward, but he was standing serious, he turned to me and smiled. Now I knew I was the only one feeling this.
Her voice was soothing, making my anxiety go away.
And finally, a male voice joined Zafrina in her chants. The priest joined us. We reached the other side of the portal.
The black fog raised and picked up Charlie, blew a bit of fog to him and threw him to the pit. He must had killed him with that blow, because Charlie fell totally immobile to the pit.
The blue flames grew 'til they reached the ceiling.
Zafrina said "The offering was accepted."
A phone rang in the distance. That's when all hell broke loose.
Hi! We're getting closer to the end, so I want to ask you a little favor. I posted a poll on my profile to decide which story will follow this one. One has an element of supernatural, and the other is a drama involving E&B but the story will come from Jasper POV. Please, take a look and tell me what story do you think I should post first.
Thank you and see you soon.
