Verity Sangster(Victor 100th Hunger Games)

I can't believe it's been six months already, it seems like just yesterday I was getting off the train from the games and now I'm about to get back on. While I won't be facing death in the arena what I am facing is something almost as bad, the Victor Tour.

I've been sitting here waiting for almost an hour with my dad who hasn't said two words to me since the rest of my family left, I can't place my finger on what but something between us has changed since the games. He's become so distant and cold and I can't figure out why. Lucky for me he won't be the only mentor on the tour with me, I'll have Velvet to talk to a well. As if on cue she walks up to us just as the train pulls into the station, and within a few minutes we're loaded up and speeding off toward our first stop on the tour.

The first hour or so is spent talking about the schedule and list of events, all of which sound incredibly boring and pretentious, the fact that our escort Savera is so interested in them only serves to strengthen my opinion on the matter. After she finishes laying out the schedule, dinner is served and after gorging ourselves on the bounty of rich and exquisite foods most of the group splits off to complete the various tasks they need to do before we arrive in 12.

I sit at the table in an uncomfortable silence until Velvet walks up and leads me over to the sitting room. "So how have you been Verity?"

"Not bad, it's been a trying time but I think I'm in a better place now. How have you been since we got back?"

"Pretty good. I've spent most of my time at the training center trying to sort through the potential tributes. You should stop by sometime, after all it might do you some good to spend some time with this years tributes."

"Why?"

"Well, you're going to be mentoring this year. I thought your dad would have told you about that, it's a tradition for victors to mentor the first year after they win."

"He didn't mention that, but I'm sure I'll be up to it. Have you decided who's going to be mentoring with me?"

"Well normally it would be your dad's year but since he switched with your brother last year I assume your brother would take his place this year."

"Which brother?"

"I think it's Justice's turn, but I could be wrong."

"Regardless I should be ok."

We sit and exchange more pleasantries until Savera returns with a stack of cue cards in hand. "Verity dear I have your speeches ready for you if you want to look over them."

"Thank you Savera but I've already written my own speech, I hope that's ok."

"Well it is quite unusual, I suppose it's ok. Velvet would you look over her stuff and make sure it meets the standards the Capitol mandates?"

Velvet shifts to look at her while offering me a reassuring smile. "No problem Savera. Verity, why don't you show me what you have?"

"Ok, it's in my room with my things." The two of us make our way to the sleeper cars and quickly into my room. It takes me a minute to find my speech with all the jewelry in my trunk with it. Velvet takes an interest in the assembled trinkets and such, taking the time to admire each piece in turn. After I find my speech she turns to me with one of the necklaces in hand, an amused look on her face.

"Who are all of these for?"

"The families, I made them myself."

"Their beautiful Verity, I didn't know you were so talented."

"Well, it took a lot of work to get this good. The first few I made looked like crap, but I think these turned out alright."

"That they did, now let me see your speech."

With a slight reluctance, I hand the folded paper to her and wait with baited breath while she reads the words.

Thank you all for your kind support. This is an amazing moment for me, but I wanted to take a second to thank the tributes from your district for their sacrifice. In their own way, each of them made a mark on the games and on me and I will be forever grateful for them.

Annika, you were my district partner and a very driven person. Your devotion and single-minded pursuit of your goals we're an inspiration to me throughout the games. May you rest in peace.

Callum, you were the worst kind of person imaginable. You were arrogant, egotistical, and sexist to the extreme but beneath all of that was another man entirely. One who was insecure and afraid of failure, and in that we had more in common than I would have though. May you rest in peace.

Vitaly, you were always so quiet and stoic I hardly got to know you, but underneath all of that was a boy trying to live up to the expectation of his family. Despite your best effort, you were never able to do it but you gave it everything you had, and in the end I hope you died proudly. May you rest in peace.

Clifford, you were never the bravest or most outspoken tribute, but you were always one of the kindest. You were always willing to help others without a thought of yourself. In the end I hope you died with your ideals and self-intact. May you rest in peace.

Hunter, I can safely say I knew almost nothing about you. In the end I hope you found the peace you were searching for. May you rest in peace.

Lilac you were the one I most easily identified with in the early stages of training. I'm truly sorry I didn't have the chance to know you better. May you rest in peace.

Lynn, I don't know what to say about you to be honest. In the end, you were the only true friend I made in the games and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do when I killed you. In the end I hope you found the solace in death that you spent so long looking for in life. May you rest in peace.

Tate, there was so much more to you then met the eye. In the end I hope you find in death what you spent so much time looking for in life. May you rest in peace.

Marcus, you were a competitive person who ran into some of the worst luck possible. Yet even through it all you managed to keep your chin up and a smile on your face. May you rest in peace.

Braden, you had a will like iron that, unfortunately, broke at the worst time. In the end I hope you find peace in the afterlife. May you rest in peace.

Kradus there is no one who deserved the fate that befell you. In the end I hope you find the peace in death that Scythe denied you in the end. May you rest in peace.

Scarlett your temper was always your strength and your weakness and in the end it was what did you end. I hope in death you are able to find the calm you so longed for in life. May you rest in peace.

Charlotte, you were an amazing and caring person who was forced to cross lines to survive. In the end, I hope the choices you made led you to a better place in death. May you rest in peace.

Liana, you were my first kill and in the end I barely remember the moment. What I do remember is the sound of your laugh filling the training center and the way your resolve never wavered till the very end. May you rest in peace.

Elsa, mush like Charlotte you were a gentle person who had to sacrifice part of yourself to survive. I hope you found the redemption in death you searched for in life. May you rest in peace.

Gigi and Athenia I decided to do your tribute together because of what the two of you meant to each other. even though it was only for a brief time the two of you managed to share something that all of us search for but few of us ever find. In the end I hope the two of you were happy and that you are enjoying the love you share for one another in eternity. May you rest in peace.

Nox you were never brave until the time called for it but when it did you rose to the occasion. In the end I hope you found the courage in death the so long eluded you in life. May you rest in peace.

Scythe you are the worst kind of person. Truly there is no way I can say anything else about you. I hope you rot in eternal fire and torment.

Caspian you were a troubled individual who spent your short life suffering through some of the worst moments anyone could imagine. In the end I hope you found the love and acceptance in death you missed in life. May you rest in peace.

Rudra like Vitaly you spent your entire life trying to live up to the impossible standard set by others for you. I hope you find release in the embrace of death. May you rest in peace.

Reina, you were such a kind and caring person in life. I hope you've found the happiness and respect you deserve. May you rest in peace.

Arya, you were so mischievous in life and a true fighter right up to the end. One of the hardest things I did in the games was to take your life. I hope you find peace in the embrace of eternity. May you rest in peace.

"It's beautiful Verity, but where did you get all this information?"

"My mom helped me contact the mentors for each district. I felt it was the least I could do for all of them."

"It's wonderful, and I'm sure all of them will appreciate the effort you put in."

She hands me the paper and makes her way back to the sitting room as I carefully tuck it back into the envelope and pace it with the gifts for the families. I don't' know if any of them will accept my offers, but it's all I could think of to offer them. After all, it's the least I can do to help wash some of the blood off my hands.
