How Things Go
With detention taking up most of Josh's free time, lunch and recess were some of the only times he got to see Gloyd and Rancis. What Josh didn't know was that Gloyd was busy during those times. Yet Josh insisted on finding him. Which of course, he did. At Gloyd's locker.
"Hey Gloyd." Josh said with a wave of his hand. Gloyd handed a brown paper big to a kid before shoeing him away.
"Hey." Gloyd replied with a small wave of his own. "What's up?"
"Just being bored...what uh..." Josh paused, tilting his head over to look inside Gloyd's locker. "What'ch you got there?" Gloyd turned to his locked and stepped back, waving his arm towards it.
Josh eyed Gloyd as he stepped towards the locker, wondering what he was up to. But eventually his attention was turned towards the locker.
It was filled with books. Lots of them. Or at least the bottom half was. On the locker door was a notepad, with names and dates on them. Cocking an eyebrow, Josh turned to Gloyd.
"It's a library." Gloyd told Josh with a grin, which only confused Joshua more.
"But we already have one...right down the hall." Josh pointed a thumb down the hall, giving his head a nod towards the direction.
"Yes. But-" Gloyd cut himself short and pulled out a book, which he handed to Josh. "These are books we're not allowed at school."
Josh looked the book over, brow furrowed still confused.
"If these books aren't allowed, then why are you loaning them to the others?"
Gloyd let out a sigh, running a hand over his face.
"Because. They want to read them." Gloyd told him with a clearly annoyed expression, which was all ignored by Josh.
"If they want to read them, then why don't they just get the books themselves?" Gloyd grew tired of all the questions. Taking the book back, he put it back in his locker. It wasn't Josh's fault he didn't know how things worked around here. Or that there were parents that wouldn't let their kids read book with killing in them.
"Josh. I just started liking you. Shut up." It didn't even take that much. Josh just nodded his head, hitching his backpack up.
"So...seen Rancis anywhere?" Gloyd pointed his thumb towards the back door that led to the field.
"Thanks." Josh waved then headed for the door. He was still confused. And it was obvious he had a lot to learn before he was able to figure these people out. If that was even a possibility. But he'd find his own way to work eventually.
