Chapter 29
…
Andrea sat at the kitchen table in Louie Provenza's apartment, waiting as he prepared his famous chilli con carne for her. When she'd arrived at his place, she'd seemed distracted so he offered to cook instead of going out which she had been grateful for.
"Andrea…"
"Mmmm."
"Dinner's ready."
"Oh right, great." She smiled.
Louie placed the plate down in front of her before taking a seat next to her, filling her glass before he began to eat.
"So, how was shopping with the Captain today?"
"It was good yeah; we spent a fortune on the baby."
"What did you buy?"
"Clothes mainly…to be honest she wasn't really in the mood to shop."
"Oh."
"Look, don't tell them I told you okay but Rusty's Mom's been in touch."
"She's what…when?"
"Yesterday, according to Sharon, she's stopping by Sharon's tomorrow to see Rusty. Rusty said she could come by for lunch on the condition that Sharon is present too."
"I take it she's not handling it well then?"
"She's terrified Louie; she has it in her head that Sharon Beck's back to take Rusty away from her. Both Andy and I have explained to her that there's no chance of Beck getting him back, plus the fact that there's no way Rusty would ever go back but…."
"She won't believe it."
"Not until she sees for herself, I just worry about her."
Louie smiled before he moved his chair closer to Andrea, she pushed her plate away and turned as Louie leaned in closer.
"You're a good friend to her Andrea, but you need to take a step back and let Sharon handle this herself."
"But she…"
"You have your own life to deal with, starting with paying more attention to your date." He smiled.
"You're right; I'm not being very good company am I?"
"I've had better dates."
"I'm sorry, I'll do better."
She smiled as he leaned in and placed a small gentle kiss to her lips.
"Hey I meant to say…I kind of told Sharon that I was having dinner with you."
"You did what, oh great and she'll go and tell Flynn and then I'll never hear the end of it."
"You really are a grumpy bugger aren't you?" She laughed.
"Though that was why you liked me."
"Maybe, come on let's finish dinner and then I might just make it up to you."
"Oh yeah."
…
Andy woke up just before 10am the next morning to hear noises coming from the kitchen; he pulled on his jeans and t shirt and made his way through to the kitchen to see Sharon with her back to him. He gave her a sympathetic look before coming up behind her and wrapping his arms gently around her waist.
"Morning beautiful." He smiled, kissing the side of her neck.
"Morning."
"I thought you'd be having a lie in?"
"I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd make a start preparing lunch."
"Sharon sweetheart, you need to stop worrying about this lunch."
"That's easy for you to say, it's not your Son who could be taken away."
Andy turned Sharon around in his arms, placing both hands on the side of her face.
"Listen to me, Rusty isn't going anywhere okay. He's staying right here with us, you need to stop worrying so much about it. All she wants to do is talk to the kid, probably wants to try and make up for all the crap she put him through."
"But I…"
"All this worrying isn't good for you…or for her." Andy smiled, his hand coming to rest on top of Sharon's."
"You're right, I know you're right. I need to stop this, it will be better once she's been and it's over with."
"That's the spirit, now how about I help you with lunch."
"Okay, you can start by cutting the fruit for the salad."
"Okay then."
She smiled as she watched Andy slicing the apples, melons and kiwi fruit for her.
"Am I doing it right?"
"You're doing great…so listen I meant to tell you last night but it slipped my mind…"
"Tell me what?"
"Did you know that Provenza is seeing someone?"
"No way, he never said anything. Who is it…do you know."
"I do and you know her very well."
"Well don't make me guess, who is it?"
"Andrea." She smiled.
"You're kidding."
"No, she told me yesterday at lunch."
"The sly bugger, he never even said."
"According to Andrea it's only just happened."
"Wow, Andrea Hobbs huh, good on him."
"He was the last person I was expecting when Andrea said she was seeing someone but she seems really happy."
"I'm happy for them; we should invite them round for dinner one night."
"Good idea but lets get today out of the way first shall we?"
"Sure, listen why don't I finish up here and you go lie down for a while before she comes."
"Honestly Andy, I don't think I could sleep."
"Go and sit down over there and rest then, I'll join you shortly."
"What would I do without you?"
"We'll be okay Sharon."
"I know." She smiled, kissing him.
…
Rusty was watching TV while Andy and Sharon were in the bedroom looking through the baby clothes Andrea had purchased for them when the doorbell rang.
"Sharon that will be my Mom. Do you want me to get it or will I like wait for you?" He asked, coming in the doorway.
"No honey it's okay, you go and let your Mom in, and we'll be out in a minute." She smiled.
Rusty nodded and went to answer the door; Andy turned and saw the fear return to Sharon's face.
"Hey, remember…chin up. We won't let her take him…no matter what."
"I love you so much Andy." She smiled.
"I love you too, come on."
He took hold of her hand as they made their way out in to the hallway, Sharon looked up to see Sharon Beck standing in front of her, blonde hair tied back in a pony tail, smiling at Sharon and Andy.
"Hey guys…this is my Mom, Sharon Beck."
"Hello, I'm Sharon Raydor and this is Andy Flynn."
"Hi, it's so nice to meet you at long last. I can't tell you how much I've wanted to meet you."
Rusty's Mom pulled Sharon into an embrace, taking her by surprise.
"Oh."
"Sharon, thank you so much for taking care of my Son…I can't thank you enough."
"It's been my pleasure, he's been no trouble what so ever." She smiled.
"Liar." Rusty grinned.
"Rusty, why don't you take your Mom through to the lounge while we get some tea ready alright?"
"Sure, come on Mom."
Sharon waited for them to leave before turning back to Andy.
"How am I doing?"
"You're doing great, come on…I won't leave you alone."
