9x04 - in which they're not so done after all.
"And we're done here." He said, hitting his back against the mattress next to her. Then he looked up to the ceiling. The room was dark, the hospital was calm, and silence was filling up the room now. They could be halfway into whatever they were about to do. Why did she have to bring up his mom? No, actually, why was she having those type of conversations with his mom? "Hold on a second, why are you and my mom talking about your sex life?"
Your sex life.He made sure to only mention her sex life… their sex life. He simply didn't need to know about his mother's.
"We were working on the case, she was showing me the man's testicles." April replied, moving her hand to her sides and slightly touching his naked chest in the process. "Then she started talking about flowers blossoming towards the sun… how sex has turned her into a flower."
"Ugh, don't."
"Sorry." She apologized, knowing better this time around. It was indeed a powerful image and he didn't need to know about it for sure. They stayed in silence a couple more minutes, until she decided to break the silence with a question that kept bothering her all day "You don't think I'm uptight, do you?"
"Uptight?"
Uptight, meaning tense, nervous, jittery, stiffly conventional in manner or attitudes. Yes, she checked it out just to be sure. She hated that word. She hated being defined by it. "Yeah. Your mom said I'm too uptight."
"Hmm, no, no!" Maybe. Sometimes. In the past, she was a bit. His perspective changed. She was the opposite of uptight. Well, with him at least.
"She basically told me I need to get laid."
"See? This is what I'm talking about. She's such a meddler."
"Yeah, but it's alright."
"I told her to stay out of my business."
"She's not in your business."
"She's in your business and your business is now my business too." He retorted, raising his head to look at her. It actually sounded like such a mess. To be honest, he wasn't exactly sure how it happened but it was the truth. "It's our business."
"She doesn't know that."
April was right. His mother didn't know that and it was for the best if she didn't. Until they stopped saying it was the last timeevery time they did it, no one was supposed to know. There was so much to be figured out.
"Anyways, she said I need to start preparing for my boards." April continued. "She mentioned this guy in the gynecology department. I guess he's a great tutor."
"What guy?"
"I don't know. She said he was cute though."
An alarming sound popped into his head. Cute? He knew his mother. Cute was not a word she'd use to describe a guy professionally. There was more to that. "W-what?"
"I think she was implying something. You know?"
'Of course she was', he thought.
"I mean, she even said she'd give me his number."
"His number?" He raised his head so quickly again that for a moment he thought he got himself a wry neck for the sudden movement. "Did you take it?"
"No. Obviously not, but…"
"But?"
"But maybe I should've." She replied. "So she doesn't have any suspicion."
"About us?"
"Yes, about us. You know your mom. She can be very efficient when it comes to getting in your business if she wants to."
"She doesn't know about us."
"She better not!" April said. "I don't think I could handle Catherine Avery talking to me about sex with her son. You know she would."
"She wouldn't!"
"She would!" She firmly said and he didn't see the point on going on with this argument. She was probably right. His mother most definitely would. "So awkward!"
"Okay, fine, but…" He let out a deep breath. Then, he turned his body to the side, raised one elbow against the mattress and rested his head on his hand.
"What?"
He moved his eyes to her, almost embarrassed to be asking her what he was about to ask. "Just don't take that guy's number, okay?"
She turned her head to the side, faced him and his beautiful green eyes, then giggled. "Are you…" April paused before saying anything else.
"Am I what?"
"Nothing. Never mind."
"What?" He asked again, but she simply shook her head. Now she seemed like the embarrassed one. "April, what?"
"Are you jealous?" She reluctantly asked.
He looked at her with his mouth open, brow raised, almost offended stare. "What? No! That's ridiculous."
"Not even a little bit?"
"No!" He retorted. He was not a jealous man. Not usually. Okay, maybe a little bit. He didn't have reasons to be jealous of some random fellow though. He had no reasons at all. April would never be interested in him. Just the thought sounded ridiculous in his mind. Or could she?… Nah.
"Not even a tiny bit?" She kept staring at him, doubting him, teasing him.
"No, I'm not jealous." He said, trying to dismiss it but failing miserable. "I'm not!"
"Fine! Whatever you say!"
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing!"
"Look, I just don't feel comfortable with you giving my mom some hopes about this guy when we both know that would only give her more reasons to meddle. Now that would be awkward!" Jackson said, moving one arm across her stomach gently. This was true in part. The other part of him wanted to believe she was his. He was not a possessive man, but April… April was his. Or at least he liked how that thought made him feel.
"Uh uh."
"April?"
"What?"
"I am not jealous."
She rolled her eyes, pretending not to wish he actually was, before turning them away from his stare. But he saw it. He saw it in her eyes. So, slowly lowering his head down, his nose touched hers. Their lips were so close. Her hand moved up his arm and when he spoke again, she felt his warm breath against her mouth. "Okay, fine… maybe just a little bit."
"You said you weren't. I believe in you." She didn't need his pity, if that was what it was. This was just sex after all.
"I was lying." He said, supporting his weight with his arms, placing them on the sides of her frame, topping her body with his. "April?"
"What?" She whispered, but he didn't reply. His lips were now on her neck, leaving burning kisses down her skin. Why did his lips have to be so delicious? Why did they have to make her lose her senses like that? Unconsciously opening her legs, she welcomed him at her center. They were still completely dressed from waist down though. His body felt way too nice on tops of hers. "Jackson, I thought you said we were done."
"I know." He said, not even bothering to lift up his head. He was too busy kissing her neck anyways. "I was lying about that too."
