Hello Fanfiction readers! Ashbel Longhart finally back to bring you another look at my adventures in Equestria! So sorry for those that have been waiting for so long but school has proven to take up a lot more of my time than I thought plus I can't freely use a laptop/computer as before so I've been majorly slowed down. But I've somehow managed to get this out so I hope you all enjoy it.
*A portal to Equestria appears* Ah, the good old portal, been a while. Cue disclaimer!

Season 2-Friendship 3: A Surprise Visitor
(Twilight's House)
"Quill?"
"Check."
"Parchment?"
"Check."
"Extra ink?"
"Check."
"Extra-Extra ink?"
"Check…?"
"That seems to be everything, Twilight." I said as I look down at the list in Spike's hand.
"Great! Now that we've completed the checklist that we need to create a checklist, we can make my checklist of the things we need to get by the end of the day." Twilight said as Spike and I exchanged weird looks with one another. "Are you two ready?"
"As ready as we'll ever be." I said as Spike raised his quill to give his response to the unicorn.
"Item 1: Create checklists of the things I have to accomplish by the end of the day."
At this did Spike sigh while I gave him a pat on the back. Something tells me it's going to be a long day. Though unknown to me at the time, it was gonna be that way in more ways than one.
(Later)
I didn't think it was possible to be this mentally exhausted this early in the day.
"How're we doing, guys?" Twilight asked as Spike and I walked behind her. Well, it was more of me since Spike was riding on my back, lazy kid.
"Let's see…" Spike began as he looked down at the list which was so long that it was leaving a trail about a yard or two away from us.
"We've already dropped your cape at the cleaners, returned the blackboard you borrowed from Cheerilee, ordered a new parchment of and quills at the stationary shop…"
"Hmm, it seems we just placed an order for those a few days ago." Twilight said.
"Geez, I wonder why we go through so many of them?" I sarcastically said as Spike and I looked back at the trail behind us.
"Yeah, I can't imagine why." Spike said sarcastically as he and I shared a knowing smile.
"Well, it seems we're ahead of schedule." Twilight said before asking, "What's next."
Spike looked back down at the list before cheering, "Cupcakes!"
"Well then, to Sugar Cube Corner." I said as all made our way to the bakery. From where we were at, it didn't take us long to get there as Mrs. Cake had our order already done.
"Here you go, dear. Cupcakes fresh from the oven." Mrs. Cake said as I open the box and was greeted with the sight of the tasty treats. They do look fresh from the oven.
"These look great. Thanks a lot, Mrs. Cake." I thanked the Earth Pony.
"You're welcome, dear. Leave the money on the counter, I've got more cakes in the oven." Mrs. Cake said as she went back to the kitchen.
"Whoa…!" Calm yourself, Spike. And close that mouth and wipe away that drool.
"Uh, I only ordered 12." Twilight said, pointing out that there was an extra in the box.
"Oh I know, dear. But I had an extra so I thought I make it a baker's dozen." Mrs. Cake said as she stepped out with a tray of fresh cupcakes, carrying said tray on top of her head. How that does not burn is a mystery to me unless her hair is magically heat resistant.
"Oh that's very thoughtful of you, it's just that frosting from the extra cupcake is getting all over the one next to it." Twilight said, pulling Spike back via magic, before pushing the box forward. "See?"
"Oh, I see…"
"It's just that I'm planning on sharing these at a picnic later and I don't want one pony to feel like somepony else is getting more icing." Twilight said, finishing off with a smile.
"Oh, no, of course not…" Mrs. Cake said before moving out of the way of a floating spatula that Twilight was levitating.
"Not to worry, I'll just move some of…hmm, I think I may have scooped too much. Oops, now those two have more. Let's just try this again."
I resisted the urge to groan and roll my eyes as I moved out of the way of flying icing that Twilight was sending through her 'correction.'
While Twilight was busy, I approached Mrs. Cake and spoke in her ear, "Do you have that extra dozen I ordered?"
"One moment, dearie." Mrs. Cake said as she spared one more glance at Twilight before going back into the kitchen. Seconds later, she came back with another box of cupcakes. "Here you go. Seems your prediction came true." Well when you know what going to happen in an episode the day before it begins, you tend to know stuff.
"Thank you." I said, stuffing the box down my Mary Poppins' bag before handing her the money. And just in time too as Twilight was finally finished with her 'correcting.'
"There! Perfect." Twilight said as I looked down at the cupcakes…that barely had any frosting on them at all.
"…Oh yes…much better…" Mrs. Cake muttered, mirroring my current thoughts as Twilight closed the box and lifted it up with her magic.
"Alright, time to tackle the next item on our…oops." Twilight finally noticed the frosted covered Spike. "Looks like we're gonna have to add 'give a baby dragon a bath' to our list."
"I don't think that'll be needed." I said as Spike used his tongue to wrap himself up before spinning himself around to both clean himself up of the frosting before eating said frosting. If I had fingers right now, I'd be holding up my thumb to Spike. "Nice."
"Very efficient, Spike. If not a little gross." Twilight commented as Spike got on my back again before us three left the shop. Now, what's next on the list?
(Later, Twilight's House)
"Well, that took a while but I think we got everything on the list." I said as we all went upstairs.
"Almost everything." Twilight said.
"Almost?" I raised an eyebrow before turning to Spike. "Spike?"
He jumped off my back before reading the last item on the list that I swore was not there before.
"Triple Check checklist to make sure we didn't miss anything when we doubled checked the checklist?" Seriously? Sigh, why am I not surprised?
"How oddly specific." I couldn't help but comment.
"Check." Spike checked the last item on the list before dripping the quill and list in his hand, holding out his cramping hand. "Ugh, I've been holding that quill for so long, I've got a claw cramp." Ugh, that does not look pretty.
Reaching into my bag, I pulled out a roll of bandages and a pack of ice before handing them to Spike. "Here, this should help."
"Thanks, Ash." Spike said as he first bandaged his head until said bandages made a cast around his arm. "Good thing we don't have anything to report to Princess Celestia this week. I don't think I can write another word."
"…We haven't sent a letter to Princess Celestia this week?" Twilight said, a noticeable crack within her voice.
Hmm, in hindsight, maybe I should have kept Spike's mouth closed.
"No," Spike said. "Why? Is that bad?" Not really my friend, but Twilight thinks otherwise.
"Bad? Bad!? Of course's it's bad!" Twilight said. "I'm supposed to send a letter to Princess Celestia every week about a lesson I've learned about friendship! Not every other week. Not every ten days. Every! Single! Week!"
"Okay, okay, calm down, Twilight." I said, pushing her away from Spike as she was getting a bit too close.
"Now is not the time to be calm!" I beg to disagree. "Where's my calendar? Where's my calendar!?"
"Where it always is?" Spike said, getting a book out before Twilight grabbed it via magic and brought it over to her, dragging Spike along with it where I grabbed him before he could smack into the podium.
"When was the last time sent a letter!?" Twilight asked.
"Last Tuesday?" Spike answered.
"And today is…?"
I checked my phone to look at the date. "Today's Tuesday."
In an instant, Twilight dashed upstairs, probably to see how much time she had left via the position of the sun. Spike and I of course followed after her. Looking outside, the sun was right smack in the middle of the sky as a nearby windmill turned and the sound of a clock was heard. Since when could it do that?
"If I don't a send Princess Celestia by sundown, I'll be, "She gasped at the thought before exclaiming, "Tardy!"
"What's that now?" Spike asked as he removed the background that appeared behind Twilight-wait a mind. Did he just break the forth wall?
"Tar-dy! It means I'll be late! I'll be late!" Twilight said as she flopped down onto her bed. "Oh, how could I have let this happen? I'm usually so organized." Too organized if I may add. "I've never been late with an assignment." I can imagine.
"Oh come on! You're the must studious student ever!" Now that's true facts. "I'm sure the Princess will forgive you if you miss one little deadline."
"He's right." I said, supporting the baby dragon. "I've turned in late assignments to my teacher's before and I'm still okay."
"I'm afraid I can't take that chance, guys. This is the ruler of all of Equestria we're talking about! The pony who holds my fate in her hooves!" I like to think everyone has a grasp of their own fates. "What if she doesn't forgive me?"
"I doubt that-Whoa!" I said before jumping in surprise when Twilight teleported down to me.
"What if she thinks I'm not taking my studies on friendship seriously!?"
"Why would she-?" Spike never got to finish as Twilight kept ranting on.
"What if she makes me come back to Canterlot and puts me back in school and makes me prove I've been taking them seriously by giving me a test!?" Tests, the bane of all students. "What if I don't pass!?"
"Twilight, you're one of the smartest ponies in Equestria." I said as Spike nodded in agreement. "I don't see you failing a test."
"But what if I do fail? She's my teacher and do you know what teachers do to students who don't pass?"
"Uh, give them an F?" I answered.
"Worse! They send them back a grade!" Okay, I have to admit, that is a bit worse than getting an F on a test. Good thing that hasn't happened to me.
"But she won't just send me back a grade." What could be worse than getting sent back a grade? "She'll send me back to…Magic Kindergarten!"
"Seriously?" I gave the Unicorn a look of disbelief while Spike facepalmed himself.
Twilight didn't answer back as she was caught up in whatever imagination that was going through her head. Quickly, I went up to her and shook her out of it.
"Twilight. Twilight!" At the sound of my raised voice did Twilight snap out of it. "Twilight, allow me to be blunt and say that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard."
"He's right." Spike said. "You're not gonna get sent back to Magic Kindergarten."
"…You're right guys." Spike and I smiled. "Because I'm going to solve a friend's problem and get that letter to Princess Celestia before sundown!" And just like that, our smiles dropped.
I sighed in exasperation. Seems the unicorn hasn't learned anything from the Philomena incident.
"So…" I backed away a little when Twilight approached me and Spike. "You two got any problems, troubles, conundrums, or any other issues, major or minor, that I as a good friend can help you solve?"
Well besides trying to find way back home, "No, not really. You, Spike?"
"Huh…hmm…uhh…huh…hmm…I got nothing." Spike said.
"Then it looks like I'll just have to find somepony that does." Twilight said as she left the room.
…
…
…
"I should probably go after her, shouldn't I?" I asked the baby dragon next to me.
"I think you should. Something tells me this won't end well." You and me both, Spike. You and me both.
Leaving Spike to take care of anything needed at the treehouse, I went down stairs in time to see Twilight leave the house, pushing the door out with a *bam!* before going outside. Grabbing my bag and cloak, I followed after the purple unicorn…if it wasn't for the groan that groaned out behind me.
Blinking once, I turned around to find that the door had struck somepony, a Pegasus as the wings on its back gave it away. I blinked once again because of how unique the Pegasus looked.
Judging from the voice, the Pegasus was a male. His coat/fur is a dark blue color and his tail is even darker with streaks of white-much like Twilight's except for the color, obviously. Finally, he had an interesting looking Cutie Mark. It looked to be a night sky with an interesting looking constellation that formed what looked to be a Penrose triangle with the stars making up the constellation connected by white lines.
Huh, never seen that pony before, even on the TV show.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked as I went over to the pony's side to help him up.
"I feel like I took a door to the face." The Pegasus said, nursing said face.
"That's because you did." I said before asking, "So, what brings you here? If you're here to see Twilight then she just left."
"Is that who I saw zooming past me before I got hit in the face?" He asked and I just gave him a nod. "Drat, and I was hoping to talk to her too."
"What did you need her for, if you don't mind me asking?" I asked out of simple curiosity. It's not often ponies come to Twilight for help. Now that I think about it, wasn't a pony that needed help the type of pony Twilight had set out to find? How ironic that there's one right here right now.
"I doubt you'd believe me…um…" The Pegasus blinked his eyes at me before asking, "I'm sorry but who are you?" Oh right, we didn't even introduce ourselves yet.
"I'm Ash, Ash Heart." I said before adding, "And just so you know, I'm not blind. My eyes are just this color." Still angry at these eyes. Now that I think about it, if Light is the one who turned me into a pony then doesn't that mean he's the one who-?
*thud!*
I couldn't help but blink in surprise. Before I could finish my train of thought, the Pegasus just out right fainted. Judging from his expression, he fainted in shock. But over what, I have no idea. What I do know is this…
"Spike! Get some ice water!" I called out to the baby dragon inside before I grabbed the pony by his tail and dragged him into the house.
"Ice water? Why do you need some—?" Spike came down talking but stopped when he saw the unconscious Pegasus. "I'll be right back." You do that.
"Whoo."
"Hm? Oh, hey Owlicious." I turned and greeted the owl on the stand I made for him. Where the hell was this guy when Ponyville was getting turned upside down last episode?
"Whoo."
"You do know I have no idea what you're saying, right?"
"Whoo."
"Thought so."
"I'm back!" I turned and saw Spike coming down the stairs with a bucket of water and ice cubes.
"Thank you, Spike." I said as he handed me the bucket.
"So, what are you gonna do with—?"
*Splash!*
"COLD!"
"Should've seen that coming."
"Whoo."
"Don't judge, you wouldn't done the same thing if given the chance." I said as I set down the bucket.
"Yeah, okay, you got me there." Spike admitted as Owlicious flew over to me with a towel in his talons.
"Thank you."
"Did you just dump a bucket of iced water on me?" The Pegasus asked, dripping wet.
"How else was I gonna wake you up? Set your tail on fire? …hmm…" I glance at Spike.
"Okay, a bucket of water I'd do, but not fire. I'd probably set the place on fire." I can actually see that happening.
"Anyway, here." I handed the Pegasus the towel.
"Thanks, I guess?" The Pegasus said, probably not sure whether to properly thank me for I did just dump water on him.
"So mind telling me why the heck you fainted when I told you my name?" I couldn't help but ask. Was there something wrong with it? Did he know somepony with the same name? I doubt it but then again, I made that name on the spot since day one.
"Sorry about that, I thought you said your name was Ash Heart." He said as he wiped himself dry.
"It is Ash Heart." I said and he suddenly froze.
"…come again?"
"I said my name is Ash Heart." I said again. "Why? Is there something wrong?"
The Pegasus stared at me with wide eyes, making me somewhat uncomfortable I may add, as he dropped the towel and suddenly grabbed my shoulders. Whoa boy! Personal space!
"Ash Heart!? As in…Ashbel Longhart!?" Wait, what!?
"How do you know that?" I pushed him away and narrowed my eyes at him. Nopony should know that my name was just a shorten version of my Fanfic author name. Hell, nopony should even know my author name! So how does this guy know it?
"Oh my god! I…I can't believe it! I'm in [BEEP]!" Wait, what the fuck? Was that a censor? "The heck? Um…[BEEP]. Uh, [BEEP]." Hmm, judging from his expression, he's just as confused as I was. "Did I just get censored? That's…kind of cool actually."
"Hey, focus." If I had fingers right now, I'd be snapping them. So instead, I clapped my hooves together to get his attention. "How do you know my author name? Nopony should know that."
"So you really are Ash Heart! That…is…awesome!"
*ZOOM!*
The moment I blinked, the Pegasus was gone from my sight but he was not too far as he was literally zooming all over the place at high speeds while blabbering something I cannot make out due to him being so fast.
"Wow, he's fast." Spike couldn't help but comment.
"Whoo." I think Owlicious agrees as well.
"Yeah, and kind of acting like Pinkie Pie right now." I commented as I tried to think of some way to stop the hyper Pegasus.
*BANG!*
Oh wait, never mind. He just crashed into a bookshelf.
"Ow…" He groaned as he got up and held his head, shaking it to get rid of some dizziness before looking at his hoof. "Oh yeah, right. I'm a pony." I raised an eyebrow at that.
"Uh, of course you're a pony. What, never looked in mirror before?" I said though something in the back of my mind was telling me that was not the case.
"Okay, now hear me out." The Pegasus got up and looked straight at me. "Now I know I look like this and it's still kind of surprising that I'm talking with you right now, but…I'm human."
…
…
…
…
…
…
"What?" I couldn't help but say.
"I'm human! Like you!" Okay, I did not hear that wrong.
Slowly, my eyes widen in surprise as my legs moved on their own and brought me up to the self-proclaimed human. He looked a bit uncomfortable at how close I was and how I was looking at him but I didn't care as I looked at him from top to bottom.
I then opened my mouth and asked, "You're…human?"
"Yeah! I'm like you, from planet Earth! I'm even a Fanfiction author like you too called BluAsh54."
Any doubt in my mind was vanished right that instant. The fact that he knows about Earth and Fanfiction, not to mention he knew who I am(sort of) was evident enough that this Pegasus standing right before me is like me. A human.
"Wha…How is this possible?" I didn't really know what to feel right now. Am I happy to know that there's another human being here in Equestria? Yes. Am I surprised that there's a human being in Equestria? Definitely yes. But how though?
"That would be thanks to me."
"Whoa!" Both the Pegasus and I jumped up in surprise before looking around in surprise. Instantly, I identified the owner of the voice. It wasn't that hard since I had help from thus guy(?) not too long ago.
"Light? Is that you?" I spoke out loud.
"Indeed, it is I, young Guardian."
"Okay, is it me, or am I hearing a voice that can't decide being either a man or a woman?" The Pegasus said-wait.
"You can hear Light?" I asked, surprised. During my fight with Discord, no one seemed to hear him but me.
He raised an eyebrow at me. "Who?"
"Me."
"Wah! There it is again!"
"Uh, are you guys okay?" Spike suddenly spoke up, reminding me that Spike and Owlicious were still here. We must look like crazy ponies to him right now.
"Remember when I told you and the others about that being who helped me fight against Discord?" I said, having told Spike and the Mane 6 about Light after the celebrations at Canterlot. Spike nodded. "I'm, or rather, we're talking to him right now…sort of."
"Oh, okay…" Spike said, probably not sure what to do now in this situation but soon decided to just stand by the owl and leave us alone until we were done.
"What the heck is going on?" The Pegasus asked…okay this has got to stop.
"You got a name?" I asked.
"Huh?"
"A name. I can't just keep calling you 'pony' or 'Pegasus' in my mind. You gotta name I can call you by?"
"A name…hmm…Night Sky."
I raised an eyebrow. "Night Sky?"
"Yeah. I mean, we technically don't really know each other's real names so I can't tell you that and since I'm a pony, I might as well call myself something that fits Equestria standards. What do you think? Is it cool?"
I will admit that it did sound kind of cool, better than me just shortening my author name, though I wasn't about to say it out loud so I just said, "It's fine."
"Ahem. Young Guardians, if we may get back on track?"
"Oh, right, sorry." I said when I noticed something in Light's sentence. "Guardians? As in plural?"
"Yes. Remember when I said that you'd be having allies with you soon?" I nodded both physically and mentally. "Young Night Sky here is one of your allies."
"For real?" I said as I looked at Night in surprise.
"Uh, what's a Guardian?" Of course he ask that, not that I blame him.
"Light?" I looked up as if wondering if the being made of literal light was somewhere up in heaven. But wait, he isn't god so maybe he isn't up in heaven?
"Allow me to explain, young Night Sky. Light young Ash Heart here, I have brought from your world into this one for there is a great danger preying upon this world."
Night raised an eyebrow at that. "A great danger?"
I listened silently as Light explained to Night all about him being a Guardian now like me and what's been happening so far as of late, telling him about his sibling Dark, my victory against Discord, and then soon about why he was a pony and about his new abilities.
"So besides being able to fly now, I have super powers? Awesome!" Night cheered before turning to me. "What's your super power?"
"Well, I really wouldn't call it a super power, but then again, I haven't really used it yet." I said. Now that I think about it, what is my special ability that Light gave me? He said he gave me enhanced courage and then bestowed upon me my abilities when Discord wrecked.
"Your special ability is 'The Image of Victory.'"
Image of Victory? "You're gonna have to explain more, Light."
"I wish I can but I must cut our talk short. If I stay any longer, Dark might find me. I will talk to you again when I have the chance."
"Wait! What about my special ability? You never told me yet!" Night asked out loudly. Mind keeping it down, dude? We're in a library.
"Look no further for your abilities than in a fierce storm." And what the hell does that mean?
...
...
...
Seeing as he wasn't answering to my thoughts, Light must have ended whatever connect he was using to communicate with us.
"Is this guy always this cryptic? Cause what he just said did not help at all." I second that, my fellow human being turned pony.
"I literally just met the guy a few days ago so I wouldn't know." I said as I wondered what this 'Image of Victory' even means. Does it have something to do with pictures? I hope not, I suck at drawing.
"I'm guessing you guys are done talking to this Light guy?" Spike spoke up.
"Yeah, and he wasn't very happy either." I said before gesturing to Night. "Anyway, introductions are in order. Spike, Owlicious, this guy here is my new comrade: Night Sky. Night Sky, meet Spike and Owlicious."
"Nice to meet you." Spike greeted while the owl went "Whoo."
"It's nice to meet you both too." Night said as he stuck out a hoof and Spike grabbed and shook it.
"So are you really like Ash? A human, I mean." Spike asked.
"Yep. That's right."
"...cool." Spike commented as his eyes seemed to sparkle a little.
"So, how'd you get here, if you don't mind me asking?" I asked since all I have of how I got here was Twilight and Spike telling me that I fell from the sky.
"I don't really know. I woke up to find myself in a crater that was smack right in the middle of a forest. A cyan pony, well Pegasus if her wings said anything, found me and woke me up. I was kind of still in a daze and a bit dizzy then as I asked where I could get help before she instructed me where to go. By the time I left the forest, I stopped being so dizzy and saw where I was at before deciding to come here for help. And, well, the rest is history."
"I see." I said as I thought about what he saw. "A cyan Pegasus...sounds to me Rainbow Dash must have been the one to find you."
"Now that I think back, I did see the colors of the rainbow on her." Night said. "Wow, I must have really been out of it if I didn't recognize her right away."
"So, now what do we do?" Spike asked.
"Hmm, I kind of what to check out the place you woke up at." I said, pointing at Night as there's a possibility that he might have been brought here with some personal belongings. I mean, I came here with a backpack full of my stuff so why shouldn't the same apply for Night.
"I actually kind of want to walk around the town, get to know the place." Night said. "I mean, I'm pretty much a stranger here so..."
"I see your point." I said before coming to a decision. "Here's what we'll do. We'll show your around town before we head to the forest to see if we can find anything that might belong to you."
"Sounds good to me." Spike said as he went and jumped onto my back.
"Okay, sure." Night said before I heard him excitedly mutter, "I can't believe I'm actually going to walk around Ponyville! This is so awesome!"
I smiled in amusement before the three of us left the tree house in Owlicious' care. Said owl is surprisingly reliable despite its size and, well, for being an owl and all.
The walk to town wasn't that long as ponies of all color walked around, minding their own business. Glancing over at Night, there were stars in his eyes.
"Well, I guess I should say: Welcome to Ponyville." I said as I gestured to everything around us.
Night didn't say anything as he continued to look around the place. I wonder what he's thinking about right now?
"Anyway, down that path over there is the way to the Ponyville Hospital." I said, pointing to said path as we all walked, well me and Night were walking while Spike was riding on my back.
"If you go down that path you'll end up at Sweet Apple Acres, Applejack's place." I said, pointing to another path. And that's when we saw it.
*BOOM!*
In the distance, a rainbow colored explosions occurred. I didn't think explosions could be rainbow colored.
"Umm, what the heck was that?" Night asked, pointing to the mushroom cloud in the distance.
"If I had to guess, that was Rainbow Dash being Rainbow Dash." I said.
"Which means...?"
"Acting wild and crazy."
"I thought Pinkie Pie was crazy?" Spike said.
"Oh no, Pinkie Pie's not crazy. She's just Pinkie Pie." I said.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Night asked.
"If I had to sit down and explain what Pinkie Pie is, that would be the same as sitting down and talking about what Deadpool is." I said.
"Okay...?" Night raised an eyebrow at me before we continued on and found ourselves at the town square.
"And here we are at the town square. "I said, gesturing to the area around us.
"Wow~!" Night gazed in amazement at the area around us before commenting, "I somehow have the urge to sing an abridged version of 'What's this?' from the Nightmare before Christmas."
"Don't." I immediately said as I grabbed and dragged him away while pointing over to the marketplace. "Over there's the marketplace which I'm pretty sure you know what it is. They got everything from apples, pies, drinks, cooking utensils, books, and vegetables."
*growl~!*
I stopped dragging Night around when his stomach started growling. He stared blushing and rubbed the back of his head.
"Hehe, guess it's lunchtime?" Night said as he probably hasn't had anything since arriving in this world. I know the feeling.
"Hold on." I said as I released him before digging into my Mary Poppins' bag and pulled out the box of cupcakes I got earlier. Opening it, I was happy to see said cupcakes still looking intact. Mrs. Cake even added sprinkles to them, how nice of her.
"Here, take your pick." I said, showing him the cupcakes.
"Oh~!" Night's eyes seemed to sparkle again as he picked a random one and took a bite. "Holy! That is good!"
"Yeah, Mr. and Mrs. Cake are known for their good treats." I commented when Spike tapped me to get my attention. "What is it?"
"Weren't we supposed to bring these cupcakes to the picnic?" Oh yeah, that's right. We were supposed to go to a picnic later with the others. Maybe this is a good chance to introduce Night to the others. I wonder how they'll react?
"Maybe we should find Twilight before we go. I'm kind of worried about her." Oh yeah, that's right. I was supposed to follow after her too. Damn, why am I so forgetful today?
Okay, think. Where would she be at this time? Judging from that earlier explosion, she must have visited AJ and Rainbow Dash earlier so she's either seeing Fluttershy right now or is at the park. My gut is telling me the latter.
"Let's check the park. If she's really looking for ponies to help, then she might be there." I said as I led the way.
"So…" Night began.
I turned to him. "What?"
"You've been living with Twilight? All this time?" Night asked.
I raised an eyebrow at him but answered anyway. "Yeah. She was kind enough to let me stay with her as long as I help around with the place from time to time like helping Spike with his chores and stuff. You know the saying: Those who don't work don't eat." Though I do find myself cooking most of the time these days.
"What's it like?" Night asked.
"It's alright." I shrugged before asking a question of my own. "Why are you asking me this?"
"Well, being new to this world and all, I don't really have a place to stay, you know." Oh shit, he's right. Guy has no place to stay right now. Should I talk with Twilight to see if he could crash with us or should I ask one of the girls to take him in? No, that probably won't work, they'd probably be uncomfortable with a guy they don't know in their house.
"Let's talk about that later. We can talk about it when I've introduced you to the others." I said as we arrived at the park and to my surprise, Twilight was here laying down at a bench. Huh, good job gut.
Now as for said pony…
"No no! You're a good student. You can do this!"
"Oh, but what if I can't?"
"You can! You just have to keep it together! Keep! It! Together!"
She was talking to a puddle.
"Uh, is she alright?" Night asked, no doubt weirded out.
"I'm not so sure." Spike answered the Pegasus as we all approached the unicorn.
"Hey, Twilight." I greeted the unicorn but she didn't seem to hear me. "Um, you okay? I saw you talking to that puddle and…" Still no answer. I looked at Night and Spike and they just motioned me to go on. I also noticed they were a few inches away than I remember.
Wow, real helpful guys. Really…
The sound of something hitting the ground drew my attention and I turned around to see Twilight on the ground while starring at a group of fillies playing jump rope. I don't know what she's thinking right now but it can't be good.
So with a quick dig into my bag, I produced a glass of water and simply threw out the contents, splashing water all over Twilight.
"Huh!? Wha!?" Twilight immediately snapped out of it, getting up and shaking herself to get rid of the water on her.
"You okay, Twilight?" I asked as Spike came to my side while Night continued to watch from the back.
"You don't look so good." Spike said, pointing out the mess that was her hair. The Twilight we both knew would never leave her hair in such a state.
"I-I'm fine, really." Twilight assured us, but we weren't convinced.
"You sure? This letter thing looks like it's really getting to you." Spike said before he handed her the box of cupcakes. "Here. You've been so anxious all day that you completely forgot about the picnic. Why don't you just relax and go hang out with-?"
"The picnic!" Both Spike and I reeled back when Twilight smiled a bit crazily. So she's already like this, huh? Better think of something before she goes completely coo coo for cocoa puffs.
"I should go see my friend. Surely they can help me!" Twilight said as she took the box via magic and ran off.
"I'm glad you've come to your senses." Spike said as he watched Twilight run off before she was finally out of view and said, "Yeah she totally is not back to her senses." Geez, Sherlock, what gave that away? The crazy smile? Or the hallucinations she's no doubt having?
"Hey," Turning, we saw Night approaching us and then leaned in to whisper, "What episode is today? Because I'm sure Twilight never acts like that."
I whisper back, "Season 2, Episode 3."
He gave me an 'Oh' expression before saying, "Don't you have to go to that picnic too?"
"Oh yeah, right." I said as I quickly ran after Twilight.
(Later)
I didn't take long to catch up to twilight but I was keeping quiet. Reason? Because said pony looks like she just went in and out of coo coo town. If I wasn't so nervous I'd probably say something about her appearance. I tired…
"Uh, Twilight?"
"Yes?"
"Um, never mind." And I failed. I was going to say to do something about that smile but said smile has me shrinking away. What happened to that enhanced courage I got from Light?
After a good walk we both finally arrived at the spot where the picnic is held and the other girls were already here. I saw Pinkie reveal a basket of balloons with said basket floating away a second later, Rainbow laying down and a pair of aviators over her eyes, AJ and Fluttershy finishing setting up the picnic blanket, and Rarity laying down on a couch she probably brought with her. Typical.
With as much politeness she could muster(which was probably running thin at this moment), Twilight dropped the box of cupcakes right above Rainbow with said Pegasus looking up to see Twilight(followed by a donkey cry for some reason) and immediately reeled back from seeing the state she and others were now seeing.
"We're here." I voiced out.
"Uh, hey. Glad you two could make it." AJ said before nervously looking at Twilight. "Um, everything alright, hon'?"
"No!" The girls jumped a little at that outburst. "I am not alright!
"Oh no!"
"What can we do?"
"What happened?" And so on as the girls asked Twilight what was wrong.
"It's just terrible." Twilight began.
"Yes…?" The girls urged Twilight on.
3…
"Simply awful."
"Yes…?"
2…
"It's the most horrific trouble I've ever been and I really, really, really need your help!"
"Yes…?"
1…
"My letter to Princess Celestia is almost overdue and I haven't learned anything about friendship!"
…
…
…
"That's it?" Rainbow said before the girls breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank goodness! I thought something really awful had happened." Fluttershy said.
Twilight looked at her friends in surprise and disbelief while making the sound of a distressed monkey. How the heck she did it, I don't know but it was amusing to hear.
With a literal *poof!* Twilight teleports in front of Rainbow and Pinkie. "Something awful has happened!" She then poofed to Rarity, making her spit out her tea she was drinking in surprise. "If I don't turn in my letter on time, I'll be tardy!" She then puffed over to AJ and grabbed her. "Tardy!"
The other girls simply looked at Twilight weirdly before a few giggles and chuckles went around, much to Twilight's displeasure whose face lit up a bit in anger. I can even hear the steam coming.
"No offense, sugar cube, but it looks like somepony's getting themselves worked up all over nothing." AJ said, pushing Twilight's back before said unicorn swatted her hooves away in anger.
"This is not nothing! This is everything! I need you guys to help find somepony with a problem I can fix before sundown! My whole life depends on it!"
"Oh Twilight, you're such a crackup!" Pinkie said as she fell down and laughed. I wouldn't laugh at this if I were you, if future events say otherwise.
"Come on now, have a seat and stop sweating small stuff." AJ insisted.
Twilight just let out an "Ugh!" before taking her leave. She let out another "Ugh!" before teleporting away.
"Wow. I've never seen Twilight so upset before." Fluttershy said.
"Ugh, what a drama queen." Oh like you're one to talk, Rarity! "Ahem, relatively speaking." That's what I thought.
I sighed before walking off. "Sorry, girls, but I have to take care of this."
"You sure? It doesn't seem that big of a deal." Rainbow said.
"Trust me, this a big deal for her." I said as I left the girls but not without saying. "Oh yeah, there's this guy I met who I want you girls to meet. In fact, you've already met him, Rainbow."
"I have?" Rainbow lifts her glasses up to look at me.
"You have." I said before finally taking my leave. Now, to find Twilight before she goes off the deep end.
(Later)
"Whoa~!"
"Wow~!"
"So cool~!"
"Girls, can you stop looking at my Cutie Mark?" I said as I tried to push down the embarrassed blush on my face. How else would one feel when ponies were practically starring at your rump?
"But it's your very own Cutie Mark!" AppleBloom(or AB as I like to think) said as she and the other girls of the Cutie Mark Crusaders looked at my Cutie Mark.
"It's so beautiful!" Sweetie Belle commented, liking the design.
"And cool looking too!" Scootaloo added in her own comment before looking up at me and asked, "So, is it true?"
"Hm? What is?"
"That…you're an alien and…stuff."
I blinked at the orange filly who swung her front leg back and forth nervously before turning to AB and Sweetie before asking, "Your sisters told you?"
"Yeah…" AB admitted, looking down nervously as if afraid I might do something to her.
"We told Scootaloo because it wouldn't be fair if we only knew." Sweetie said, repeating AB's actions.
"Hey, I'm not mad." I said, getting the two to look up as I patted their heads. "In fact, I'm glad the three of you know. That just means I won't have to keep a secret from you any longer."
"You're…not mad at us?" AB asked.
"Why should I be?" I said with a raised eyebrow. "Just because you know my secret doesn't mean I should be mad at you unless you give me a reason to be. So it's fine girls."
"Really?" Scootaloo asked and I nodded. "Whew! That's a relief. We thought you'd be super angry or something. You're pretty scary when you're mad."
"Am I?" The three all nodded immediately. Am I really that scary when I'm angry?
"This is so awesome!" Scootaloo jumped up high in excitement. "Our leader's an actual alien!" She then turned to me as if realizing something. "…You're still our leader, right? I mean, you have a Cutie Mark and we don't and—"
"Scootaloo," I interrupted the Pegasus filly from continuing before saying, "Don't worry, I'm still the leader of this hyper bunch. Whether I like it or not, I'm here until you girls get your Cutie Mark."
"Really?" Sweetie asked and I simply nodded.
"For realsies?" AB asked and I nodded again.
"YAY!" Ow, my ears!
While my ears rung a little, the girls went and grouped hugged me and I couldn't help but smile a little. Now, Twilight should show up any minute now to try and use the girls. It was the reason why I was with them after all.
"Hey guys!" Speak of the—Holy shit! That face!
The girls turned around to see Twilight appearing out of nowhere and unconsciously hugged my legs tighter at the unicorn's appearance. I can't blame them for being a little afraid.
"Oh, hey Twilight." AB greeted the unicorn, her eyes shifting nervously at Twilight as she and the others' took in her messed up appearance. "Um, how's—?"
"Great! Just great!" Twilight interrupted the Earth Pony before she could finish. Rude much? "You four look like you're doing great too! Looks like four greats friends who obviously don't need the help of another good friend!" Hey, uh, girls? Can you let go of my legs? I can't really back away like this. And why the hell am I thinking this when I should be speaking it instead? And where the hell is Night? Isn't he supposed to be my comrade?
Oh right, I left him with Spike.
"Do you, uh, need something?" I asked even though I knew already why she was here.
"As a matter of fact, I want to give the girls something!" Twilight said before used her magic to lift up the most beat up pony doll I have ever seen. Like the thing should be in a dumpster right now. "This is Smarty Pants! She was mine when I was the girl's age and now I want to give her to them!"
"She's, uh, great." Scootaloo said when I covered her mouth.
"Don't talk back to her. Let me do the talking." I whisper to the girls and they nodded their heads quickly. Releasing Scootaloo's mouth, I addressed Twilight and her…doll.
"She's, uh, great. Her mane looks especially nice." I could feel the girls giving me 'really?' looks as I spoke. Like you three could do any better!
"She even comes with her own notepad and quill for when you want to pretends she's actually doing her homework!" Twilight said as she handed me a miniature notepad and quill. I can't tell if these things are real or not.
The girls gave me looks of expectation again. Don't pressure me, you three.
"That's, um, great." I said before I motioned the girls to let go of me. "Girls, why don't you three go play over there. I'm gonna have a talk with Twilight." The three left rather quickly once I said that. They didn't just abandon me to the crazed Twilight…right? They wouldn't do that…right?
Deciding to get rid of my current thoughts, I turned to Twilight and bluntly said, "Alright, Twilight, what are you planning?"
"I'm not planning anything." Bullshit. "I just want to give Smarty Pants to girls while hoping it doesn't cause a rift to form between them when they want to play with her." Again, bullshit.
"Twilight, look, you're just under a lot of…stress right now." A massive understatement on my part.
"'Stress?' Oh no, no, no I'm not under any stress at all! I'm fine!" Once again, bullshit.
"Twilight, I know you not learning anything about friendship and all today is troubling for you, but—!"
"But that's going to change!" She interrupted me a bit too gleefully. She turned to the CMC(Cutie Mark Crusaders) who were all now playing ball. "Today a lesson will be learned! And once I learn it, I will have Spike write it down, send it to Princess Celestia, and then all my troubles will float away!" Note to self, no coffee for her for a while.
Twilight then closed her eyes. I know that look anywhere. Everypony in Poneville knew that look. She's concentrating on a spell. Shit!
I acted without thinking. In a bit of panic, I ran over to the floating beat up doll, jumped, and struck it down, sending it crashing down as I could have sworn it let out a small squeak sound. With that out of the way, I turn to Twilight to stop.
"Twilight, stop-what's with these hearts?" Whatever I was going to say was changed into confusion as to my surprise, they all entered me and soon, I was surrounded by hearts.
Twilight then opened her eyes up, saw me, and said, "Oh no."
"Oh no? What oh no? What did you to me!?" I frantically asked as my gut was telling me something was about to happen and I wasn't going to like it one bit.
"Hey, Ash?" I turned around to find the CMC all looking at me with…hearts in their eyes?
"Have I ever told you how much I want you?" Huh?
"How much I need you?" Huh!?
"How much I love you?" HUH!?
It took me a moment to figure out what Twilight had done to me.
…
…
…
…oh shit.
"Now girls, hold on. You're not yourself-oh my god!" Before I could finish, the girls suddenly ganged up on me and started pulling everything from my fur to my mane(which hurt a lot by the way). They even formed a dust cloud around me which I stuck my head out to shout over to Twilight:
"Do something!" I managed to shout before the girls pulled me back in. Where the hell did they get this strength from-hey! Hooves off the glasses!
"Hold on! I'll get help!" No! Don't get help, undo the spell! "Big McIntosh! Oh thank goodness! Quick, you need to help Ash!" Big Mac? Where the hell did he come from?
"Whoa!" I let out a cry of surprise when something grabbed the strap of my bag and pulled me away from the girls who were too busy fighting each other at this point to notice that I was no longer in the dust cloud. Turning around, I saw that Big Mac had used his mouth to grab my bag and pull me out.
"Thanks Big Mac." I said as he released me and I turned to him. "Now, Big Mac. We're friends, right?"
"Yep."
"Good friends, right?"
"Yep."
"So you'll leave me alone, right?"
With hearts in his eyes, he said, "Nope."
"Thought so." I said before I booked it before the bigger pony could grab me. Bag Mac immediately gave chase with the girls, having stopped fighting after a while, followed close behind.
"Help me!" I shouted over to Twilight as I ran as fast as I could.
"Just hold still so I can undo the spell!" Oh so now you decide to undo the spell!?
"What's all the commotion about?" Huh, is that Mayor Mare? What she doing here?
"They're fighting over Ash Heart!"
"Who may be more amazing looking than ever!" I literally just blinked and found that nearly the entirety of Ponyville was now of on my trail. Well fuck. There's really only one thing left to do…scream like a girl and run.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Letting out an unmanly scream, I ran for the hills both figuratively and literally.
(Later)
I don't know how long I've been running. Minutes, hours? I have no clue. What I did know is that if I was caught it would be the end of me.
"Come back here, Ash!" Never!
"We love you!" That's the spell talking, not you!
"We promise not to hurt you!" Lies!
"Ash!" I heard a familiar voice call out my name and looked up to see Spike riding on Night was using his wings to fly. Since when did he learn how to use those?
"What the heck is going—!?"
"Don't look at him!" Before Spike could finish asking, Twilight appeared and knocked the both of them down which was a relief to me. I don't need more people chasing me-oh shit!
"Got you!" A pair of Pegasai said as they lifted me up into the air.
"Hey! Put me down!" I demanded before they started to pull on my arms, now fighting over who would get me.
One of them lost the tug-a-war but she let go so suddenly that I crashed into the other Pegasus, releasing me and sending down to…oh fuck.
"He's mine!" Was the common pair of words that went around as I was soon surrounded by ponies from all sides. I let out cries of horror and pain as they fought over me and from the corner of my eyes, I saw Twilight explaining the situation to the others, including Spike and Night. I then managed to get my head out of the giant dust cloud and proceeded to quote a famous vine.
"HELP ME! HELP! ME! NI—!" Before I could finish, I was pulled back in and more screams followed.
"TWILIGHT SPARKLE!"
*SHINE!"
From above, there was a blinding light which made me cover my eyes. Once it died down, I found that everyone had finally calmed down, much to my relief. Now then…
"Can you guys put me down now?" I asked the ponies holding me up and they gently put me down, moving away from me while giving me apologetic looks.
"Thanks you." I said, dusting myself off as everypony dispersed. Once everyone was gone did I turn to the source of the light, Princess Celestia, standing over Twilight who was on the ground.
"Meet me in the Library." Was all Celestia said before she took off for said library.
"Ash!" Running up to me were Spike and Night.
"You okay, man?" Night asked.
"I think I'll be fine." I assured him before asking, "Where the heck have you been?"
"Well, after you left, Spike here was kind enough to finish the tour around the town. After that we visited Sugar Cube Corner and had the best cake ever!" Night said with a bright smile which, for some reason, made me angry. Maybe it's because I was doing so much work while this guy was practically playing.
"We're never going to see Twilight again!" The voice of Pinkie Pie drew our attentions to the girls where I finally noticed Twilight leaving, head hung down.
"Of all the worst things that could happen! This is the! Worst! Possible! Thing!" Everypony proceeded to give her looks. "What? I really mean it this time."
"You know, seeing something you saw on TV and seeing it right before your very eyes is really weird." Night commented.
"Save the comments for later, we're heading to the Library." I said as Spike got on my back and we took off for the library where Twilight was no doubt getting a stern talking to from Celestia.
(Library)
The air was tense as I predicted, Twilight was talking with Celestia with the topic obviously being about what happened today. Spike and Night hid behind a bookshelf to overhear the conversation, not knowing whether to make their presence known while I simply stood with the unicorn and the alicorn, merely watching the scene before me.
"But, I'm supposed to send you a letter about friendship every week." Twilight said, her condition still a mess but at least she wasn't acting crazy anymore so that was a plus. "I missed the deadline. I'm a bad student. I'm…tardy!"
"You are a wonderful student, Twilight. I don't have to get a letter every week to know that." Celestia said.
"Really?" Twilight looked up at her teacher in disbelief.
Before Celestia could answer back, the door suddenly swung open(I could have sworn I locked that…did they break the lock!?) and the girls suddenly poured in, most of them falling to the ground while Rainbow flipped over to us and stood in between Twilight and Celestia.
"Wait!" Rainbow said as the others quickly dashed over to Twilight's side.
"You can't punish her!"
"It wasn't her fault!" Technically it was but I wasn't about to say that any time soon.
"I'm listening." Celestia said as Fluttershy approached her.
"Please, Your Highness. We all saw that Twilight was upset." That's an understatement.
"But we thought the thing she was worrying about wasn't worth worrying about!" Rainbow explained as Pinkie tried to comfort Twilight.
"So when she ran off, all worked up, not a single one of us tried to stop her!"
"Ahem!" I cleared my voice to get everypony's attention.
"Oh, right, Ash here did try to stop her." AJ said.
"And we all know how that turned out." I couldn't help but say.
"Sorry." Twilight apologized as I could easily tell she felt guilty for what she did to me.
"It's okay. You weren't exactly thinking straight." I said with a small shrug.
Continuing off from where AJ left off, Rarity spoke next.
"As Twilight's good friends, we should have taken her feelings seriously and been there for her!"
Celestia looked down at everypony, prompting them to continue speaking.
"Please don't take her away just because we were too insensitive to help her." Fluttershy pleaded.
Celestia looked down at each of the girls before a small smile appeared don her face.
"It seems you all learned a pretty valuable lesson today." Everypony looked at one another before nodding in agreement. "Very well, I'll forget Twilight's punishment on one condition. From this day forth, I would like all of you to report to me about your findings about the magic of friendship."
"Huh?" All the girls let out a noise of surprise and confusion.
"But only if and when she does discover and learn something, right? Because we don't need a repeat of today." I said, joining in the conversation.
"That's right." Celestia nodded at me as the girls all cheered. Celestia then addressed me fully while the girls were busy cheering. "How are you, Ash Heart? It's not every day a pony gets hit by the 'Want It, Need It' spell." Seriously? That's what the spells called? Hold on a sec, why does Twilight even know that spell?
"I'm fine. The worse the town's ponies did was pull on my fur." I said.
"That's good to hear. I'm trusting you to look after my dear student. I'm sure you know how she can be sometimes." Oh ho! If that's not the biggest understatement today then I don't what is. "Well then, it's time I take my leave."
"Princess Celestia, wait!" Before Celestia could leave, Twilight quickly went up to her. "How did you know I was in trouble?"
"Spike sent me a letter, informing me that you were letting your fears get the best of you." Celestia said as she looked over to where Spike was, still hiding behind a bookshelf as he retreated once he saw that he had been spotted. I'll have to give the little guy something nice after this.
"Good job, Spike." I said as I went over to him and placed a hoof above his head, rubbing it roughly on purpose as if I was ruffling hair.
"Hey! Cut that out!" Spike pushed my hoof away, looking embarrassed.
"Now then, if you will all excuse me, I must return to Canterlot." Celestia said as she opened the door to the balcony and stepped outside. "I'm expecting some mail." And with that, she jumped and flew off into the distance before using her magic to teleport away.
"So that was Princess Celestia." Night, coming out from behind the bookshelf, walked over to me and looked outside to where Celestia was moments ago.
"Yep." I simply said when AJ suddenly spoke up.
"Y'all heard the Princess! Spike, take a letter."
"With pleasure." The baby dragon said, pulling out a paper and quill from behind him. Once again, I can't help but wonder how he does that.
"Where did he pull those out from?" Night asked.
"I've yet to figure that out." I said as I watched Twilight give Spike a hug, silently thanking him for what he did.
We soon then gathered around in a circle, Spike at the podium and ready to write AJ cleared her voice, speaking first.
"Dear Princess Celestia, we're writing to you because today we learned a little something about friendship."
Fluttershy then spoke next. "We learned that you should take your friend's worries seriously."
"Even if you think she doesn't have anything to worry about." Rainbow said before Rarity went next.
"And that you shouldn't let your worries turn a small problem…"
"Into an enormously, huge, entire town in total chaos, Princess has to come in a save the day problem!" Way to finish it off, Pinkie.
"Signed, your loyal subjects." That may apply to you all, but I like my freedom.
"P.S, Obviously Spike did not have to learn a lesson because he and Ash are the best, most awesome friend anypony could ask for!" Hey! Why're you putting me in the letter like that!? "Unlike everypony else, they took things seriously and—!"
"Ahem!" I raised my voice to get Spike to stop writing as he looked up to find everypony's unamused expression.
"Ehehehe…I'll just cross that part out." Spike said, doing just that as everyone started to laugh.
"Well, that was something." Night commented.
"Wait a minute." Twilight suddenly stopped laughing and turned to Night. "Who are you?" Everypony else then stopped laughing as well and turned to the human-turned Pegasus. Seriously, did they just now notice him?
"Hey, aren't you that Pegasus from earlier?" Rainbow said, pointing a hoof at Night.
"That's me. Thanks for waking me up." Night said before flashing a bright smile. I didn't think teeth could be that white.
"Right, I was actually planning on introducing you girls to my new…friend?" I mean, I just met the guy today so I can't actually call him a friend. An acquaintance? A comrade?
"The name's Night Sky. Nice to meet you all." Night went and introduced himself.
"You made a friend? By yourself?" Twilight, why're you giving me that look like a mother would give to her son when he does something he wouldn't do normally and it makes you happy?
"Well, I wouldn't say we're friends, "Again, just met the guy today. "He's more like a…comrade?" Yeah, I'll go with that for now.
"Comrade?" Everypony looked at me in confusion. Time to drop the bomb.
"Now don't be shocked, but Night here is actually like me." I said.
"Like you?" Twilight raised an eyebrow.
"He's a human." And the bomb has been dropped. Now, how will they react?
…
…
…
…
…
…
"…Huh?" Huh, kind of expected them to be more— "HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!?" Ah, there it is.
*Comes out of Portal* And…done! Holy, this turned out longer than I thought. Bet you guys didn't expect another human turned pony to appear. That's right, I'm not the only one! It took a lot of thinking but I decided to bring in more characters in the fun. How this'll effect future stories to come, well you'll just have to stick around to find out!
Also, before I forget, I do not own Night Sky, he actually belongs to someone else. Just thought I should mention that. Also, sorry if this took so long, priorities of life and what not. Anyway, this has been Ashbel Longhart here, signing off. And as always, here comes the brohoof.
*Inoming Brohoof*
See you readers next time!
