Don't Walk Away
Chapter 29: Broken Silence
A/N: I hope you guys like this chapter! Also, two random questions for you guys. The first one is, is that would any of you read a Cable x OC (deadpool) fanfic? I know that my other marvel/dc fandoms would probably be on board but I wanted to know what y'all thought. Secondly, this question I have been toying with for a while, but I have been to nervous/afraid to do anything about it... so I wanted some honest opinions about it since I know you guys read my work... so *drum roll* do you think I could write a decent book? Even if it is yes or no, please let me know, because I really would like some sort of direction on this. Thanks in advance.
lovinurbuks: Thank you and I am happy that you liked that you finally got a little more insight to Amaya's backstory :)
moonlight46: Thank you! I'm sorry! But hey, I did warn you about the feels :P
XiiiKakashi: I am sorry! But hey, have to put those emotional type of chapters in :) And I know we are! I was planning it out and I'm like "shit, we have like literally nothing left" and also "fuck yes, finally!" In a way, I'm kind of ready to be done with this part so I can move on to the next one. Well, I am happy that you finally got some of the background, but I promise that any questions that you may still have will eventually be resolved! I am sorry about finals, and I hope that your exams went well!
Amaya woke up in a semi-warm bed. She rolled over on her stomach, spreading out all of her limbs. Batting her eyes open, that's when she realized that Kakashi wasn't there, next to her. After the events of the night before, she didn't blame him, however, she figured that wasn't the case to why she woke up to being alone in bed. His spot still held some of his warmth, indicating to the kunoichi that he had just recently gotten up. She figured that he probably had to use the restroom or wanted to get breakfast ready for the two of them. Inhaling in, all Amaya could smell was the cedar wood that the Hatake manner was built from. All around, it smelled like Kakashi, and with the scent, a sense of ease and peacefulness washed over the kunoichi.
It was almost like this was home to her as well. Granted, wherever Kakashi was, that was where she wanted to be. With the events of the night, after the two had a fill of the food Kakashi made for dinner, the two had both just calmed down and decided on an early night in. Shortly after, both fell asleep and now, to Amaya, it was as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. There was still a lot to deal with, but at the same time, it felt like having her past said, and in the open air around her, finally gave Amaya some well-needed closure about the events of the past. Maybe, this time, she could finally start to move on, instead of lingering with one foot in the past and one in the present.
For once, it felt like she had both feet in the present, and they were pointed forward, angled to the future. The kunoichi also knew that Kakashi would struggle with the information that she told him. The knowledge, knowing what had happened to her and who did it, was something that he needed time to process. She understood that. Nevertheless, still, she didn't worry about Kakashi acting against Danzo. Kakashi was a smart man, and he wouldn't do anything out of haste. He didn't have any real proof since everything would just be word against word, and the elder would win. Amaya knew that Danzo had it coming his way, and she knew that Kakashi had the same feeling, however, Amaya, out of the spite in her heart, wanted to be the one to watch Danzo's life drain from his eyes.
Amaya rolled back over and stretched, knowing that she should finally get out of bed and see what Kakashi was doing. She pressed herself off the clean, white sheets and bent over, picking up Kakashi's shirt from the ground. She pulled it over her head and took her hair out from the collar, letting the fabric fall to her mid-thigh. Amaya then padded to the kitchen and pressed a hand to a mouth to cover her yawn. When she got to the room, she looked around for the white-haired man, but he wasn't there. She felt like that was a little weird, but that was when she heard talking from the front room, as if Kakashi was trying to push someone out of his house, or at least, keep them from entering.
Walking over there, Amaya peered around the corner and made herself visible. She found Kakashi's bare back to her, but was wearing his mask, and the pants that matched the shirt she had on. The kunoichi licked her lips, trying to hide a smile when she saw who Kakashi was talking to. It was no other than the man in a very visible and unique green jumpsuit.
"What's wrong?" Amaya said, asking a serious question while leaning up against the wall, Kakashi's shirt hitching up higher on her leg.
Gai stopped talking when he looked at Amaya and it was almost as if his jaw fell open at the sight of her. Then, it was Kakashi's turn to turn his head and look at her.
"Now I understand why you can't come out right now" Gai said, trying to tease Kakashi even though his own face was tinted red with a blush.
"And good morning to you too, Gai," Amaya said with a smile on her face, loving every moment of this situation.
"Mornin' Amaya. I was just on my way…" Gai said, giving Amaya an up and down before she shook her head and started laughing.
This action caused Kakashi to come back and try to get Gai to leave the house. If Amaya looked closely, she could see that Kakashi held a small tint of pink to his cheeks as well. It wasn't every day that she got to see the man she loved embarrassed. Unless, of course, it came to his make out paradise series.
"I'll meet you later okay. You have to go now," Kakashi told Gai, trying to shoo him out of the house.
"Yeah, I'll tell the others that you are a little busy right now," Gai spoke finally taking his eyes from Amaya, but before Kakashi could finally close the door, Gai spoke up again.
"Kakashi, my rival, I must say, you found a keeper here… you did well for yourself…" Gai wiggled his eyebrows in a seductive manner and Amaya couldn't help but chuckle at his actions.
"I will deal with you later, just… please… for the love of god… leave," Kakashi said with an exacerbated sigh.
With that, Kakashi shut the door in Gai's face, and the white-haired man turned around, looking at his lover's smile that was lingering on her face.
"You should have stayed hidden, now Gai is going to tell everyone what he just saw. Everyone in the whole village is going to know about the two of us—"
Amaya stepped down, meeting Kakashi, and placed a hand over his mouth to silence him. Kakashi took the moment to look at her deeply, as his hands found a place on her hips.
"I don't care what Gai says, because I am happy to be in a relationship with you and now, I really don't care who knows that you're mine."
Amaya could feel Kakashi's lips turn up into a smile with her proclamation, the kunoichi knowing that she said the right thing. So, she moved her hand from covering his mouth over his mask, and she draped both of her arms around his neck. She pressed into him, almost as if she was hanging onto him. Kakashi's hands found their way to Amaya's backside, and Amaya pulled down Kakashi's mask so she could kiss him. Kakashi deepens the kiss, intentionally.
"If you keep kissing me like this, I will have no problem making the both of us late to work."
"You wouldn't dare" Amaya giggled against his lips, earning a small laugh from the man as well.
"You shouldn't test me, especially with how attractive you look in my clothes," Kakashi smiled against Amaya's lips.
Amaya couldn't help but keep smiling, especially as she felt Kakashi's morning stubble rubbing against her.
"There is no way in hell you would make me late," Amaya said with a fake gasp to her voice.
Kakashi gave Amaya both a lustful and evil look all at the same time. He quickly shifted his hands so they were right under Amaya and he grabbed her thighs, making her jump up and wrap her legs around him. The two started the heat up the kiss as hands started trying to take off clothing and touch every part of the other's skin. Clothes were tossed in the hallway and Kakashi lead the two of them back to his room, kicking the door shut behind them.
Amaya slammed open the door to the faculty room with a lack of breath and sweat dripping down her temple. The rest of the faculty and staff looked at her, her chest heaving. The kunoichi walked to her desk and everyone else decided that they had better things to be doing then to look at her. In fact, majority of the professors and staff left the room to get started with their day. That left only Amaya and Iruka in the room, the latter pushing back his chair to stand up.
"I'm sorry about being late" Amaya forced out with strain in her voice.
Iruka waves it off, "Everyone has those days where they are fifteen minutes late, just try not to make a habit of it."
Amaya nodded her head and went to go sit down at her desk, seeing that there were more papers on it from the last time she parted from the old wood. Taking a deep breath, Amaya ran a hand through her hair, sighing. She fullfed her hair when her hand reached the ponytail holder, but she knew that this was because the academy had apparently gotten behind on their paperwork again without anyone notifying her about it.
"Do you think that the headmaster and others just think of me as a desk jockey?"
"I hate to admit it, but better you than me. I would lose my mind if I had to do that" Iruka laughed, gathering up his papers for his class.
Amaya cracked her neck by tiling her head from side to side.
"Well, I just chalk it up to being a part of the job."
"You can say that one again" Iruka sighed and the kunoichi knew it was because he was about to face the students, the man was just trying to prepare himself for the day to come.
Amaya returned to her desk, expecting Iruka to leave her alone in the room, but to her surprise she found him shuffling through the papers of his own desk. It was unlike him to forget something for morning lecture. Amaya knew that because there had been countless of nights that Iruka would stay late to try and make everything perfect for the morning so he wouldn't have to forget about leaving anything out of his lesson plans.
"You doing okay?" Amaya asked.
"yeah, its just, here it is!" Iruka finally stopped rummaging through his own papers and extended a file folder towards Amaya.
"What's this?"
"No clue, but someone left it in the academy mailbox for you this morning. Anyway, let me know who delivered you something later, I gotta run and make it before my class."
Amaya thanked Iruka and watched him leave the room and close the door behind him. She placed the file on the top rack on her desk, and decided to leave it there until she could get through some of the academy's paperwork. They were paying her to be doing their tasks, not open personal mail. However, boredom quickly came to Amaya and her eyes flicked back up to the envelope. The kunoichi figured that there was no harm in opening the folder and seeing what was in the folder. She took it from the stack and slid her finger under the flap, breaking the seal. She placed her hand down and tried to shake out the contents of the envelope, but nothing came out.
So, Amaya turned the folder again and looked inside of it, only to see a small piece of paper trapped in the bottom. Sticking her hand into the folder, she pulled it out. Unfolding it, Amaya let her eyes linger over the words and she reread them a few times, not fully registering them.
I know you told him. Don't force my hand and make me do something that you will end up regretting.
Amaya could feel her heart beat rapidly against her chest. She knew exactly who the handwriting belonged to, she just wondered how he even know about what she had told her lover. The blood in her veins almost seemed to turn her ice as her eyes kept tracing the words again and again. However, a knock on the window made Amaya jump out of her seat and she took a defensive stance as the chair fell, hitting the floor. Looking out the window, Amaya's eyes found those that belonged to Tenzo. He had a sunken face and when he was sure she saw him, he quickly adverted his gaze from her, trying to make it as if he wasn't a hostile being. He reminded Amaya of a kicked puppy who was trying to make it up and lick old wounds that they have yet to recover from.
Knowing that she didn't want to do it, but she had to anyway, Amaya got up and went to the window to unlock it after placing the note back on her desk. The kunoichi stepped back, letting Tenzo to come into the room, but she crossed her arms when Tenzo approached her. She wanted him to leave, she had bigger things to deal with at the moment in regard to the threatening note that she received. Tenzo took in her body language and didn't press trying to get closer to the kunoichi. He knew that in a way, her crossed arms were as if she was trying to guard herself.
"How did you find me?"
"You forget that I know you work here" Tenzo replied, trying to keep his voice steady and soft, unthreatening.
Amaya just nodded to his reply, never forgetting that she had told him about the mission of being stationed in the academy.
"So, why are you here?" Amaya questioned.
The kunoichi watched as Tenzo became tense and the air shifted between the two of them. The man in front of her shifted his weight back and forth on either foot, his mind trying to find the right words to use. Amaya let out a breath and looked away back to her desk, as if it was a subtle way to tell Tenzo that she needed to get back to work if he wasn't going to say anything to her. But, that seemed to do the trick in making Tenzo open his mouth as a rush of words came out.
"I should have never done what I did. I should have never treated you like I have. You are your own person and I need to respect you. I am so ashamed of everything that happened. I'm sorry Amaya, I am so, so sorry about the way I acted."
"You didn't have a right to do anything of what you did last night!" Amaya said, throwing her hands in the air.
"Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"
Amaya let her eyes glance back towards her desk, looking at the note that lingered there. She willed it to automatically combust, but she knew that there was no way that would happen. A brief thought went through her mind to tell Tenzo about the note, but didn't know if she could trust him anymore. With how he had been acting with her recently, she just didn't know, and didn't want to chance it.
"Thank you for the offer…" Amaya said, swallowing and seeing Tenzo's face lift because she was finally responding to his question, "… But it is going to take time to get over how you treated me. I have to know that I you're your trust again, because you broke the trust that we had with each other with your actions. However, I would be lying if I said that I wanted someone else looking out for me. I don't know how long it will take for me to get over this, but I will tell you that I am willing to work through this with you."
Amaya watched a brief, but small smile form on Tenzo's lips before he answered her.
"I can do that. I'll give you all the time you need. I just… No matter what happens, I know you Amaya and I wanted to let you know that I will always be on your side no matter what happens."
Amaya returned a response by offering up a smile, but it was one that didn't quite reach her eyes. She knew that Tenzo didn't expect much from her, but for some reason, she felt sadness linger in her heart. Almost as if she knew that the two would never have the friendship they once had, but she knew that he was such a fundamental part of her life that Amaya couldn't just cut out her best friend. She knew that there was a lot to work through, and there would be a lot of stepping stones to overcome, but there was always hope. Amaya knew that in the future, she may just need help from her best friend.
With that, Amaya watched as Tenzo nodded his head and turned so his back was to her as he exited through the window. She moved to shut it behind him, but he shifted and turned back to look at her, his hand resting on the pane so Amaya couldn't shut it on him.
"So, what you and Kakashi have… its real?"
Amaya was about to bark at Tenzo, but with his physical stance and body language, she knew that he was trying to be sincere. She decided that she should allow him the same courtesy.
"He is the only one I want to be with. I really do, honestly and truly, love that man."
The kunoichi watched Tenzo's face contort with sadness, but she knew that was his way of trying to let her go. She could respect that, and Amaya knew that Tenzo was trying to make an effort, especially since he had done wrong by her. She appreciated that he didn't wait to apologize to her and now that they were finally on the same page, they could take the first step forward. Therefore, Amaya thought that she would make that first step now, and see if Tenzo would join her.
"However, with that said, if you try to kiss me again, I have no problem with letting Kakashi go through and attack you" Amaay cracked a joke, forcing laugher to try and ease the atmosphere in the room.
"That is duly noted" Tenzo chuckled in response.
With that, the two of them found some closure over the events that happened, and Amaya said goodbye to Tenzo and watched him leave. She took a deep breath and locked the window in place, eventually returning to her desk. She picked the note up in her hands again and played with it in her hands. She read the note one more time, and decided that she needed to move on, just like with Tenzo. Amaya walked over to the paper shredder and fed the machine the note and the envelope it came in. She watched the paper turn into shreds, and she figured that she wouldn't tell anyone about the threat. It was her problem to deal with, if a problem arose. However, it was time for her to move forward and be done with the past.
Or, so she thought.
