The picture I have in use as the cover for my CaH saga is from dA by an artist lychi and the picture's name is just simply Zelda.

Also, another note: I do NOT own the characters or places unless said otherwise. Nintendo has the rights. =P Honestly speaking, all I have is the idea for the story, few monsters, creatures and bit of changing the places. Oh, and couple of OCs here and there. ^^; I'm certain everyone can figure out which belongs to me and which doesn't. =)

DARK LINK'S QUEST

CHAPTER 29: The Water Temple, part 2: Shadowy Water Worm

The room they entered had a wall straight in front of them. The ceiling was about in same height as within the earlier room. Just before the ceiling was whole wall width long hole. The two Hylians swam up and noticed that the next way was at the bottom with equally small area to get through. Dark glanced at Link before taking his sword and shield off and giving them to the Hero. After that he carefully and slowly made his way through the tight place.

Once the dark Hylian was through, Link gave him back his sword and shield. After that the Hero followed on similar way by giving his own weapons over to the ex-shadow. Eventually Link got past the first thin area and they dived down while the Hero carefully put his sword and shield back to their rightful place in his back. They checked the next thin area and the dark Hylian noticed slight drop in middle of the area.

Dark frowned a bit and turned around. He scanned the slight opening from one wall to another before he found what he was searching for. There was a slight hole in the roof that would've helped them through. The dark Hylian frowned slightly and turned back to the way he had found.

"Dark, are you coming?" Link called from the other side of the wall and startled the ex-shadow. He blinked few times before he already sighed, avoided the slight drop and moved through the area after taking his weapons off and pushing them through first.

"Sorry. I was just checking for something..." Dark replied once he got his weapons back to his back. The Hero nodded but he was having his weapons off and hanging in his grip.

"If the road forward is going to be equally tight, I think it would be best to keep them off, you know." Link suggested as he started to swim upwards to the next way through. This time it was in middle of the wall. The dark Hylian sighed and took his weapons off while following the Hero.

Link went through the first place he came to. Dark checked the whole length of the area and noticed another area where it would be much easier to get through. He contemplated for a while about using it but something told him that it would only cause trouble. The dark Hylian sighed and followed the Hero while avoiding the easier area.

The next obstacle in front of them was done out of fishing net. It was hanging in there loosely so finding a way through wasn't easy. Carefully they started to check the way from different sides. As they touched the thin ropes it was clear that it would've been too hard to be cut by the sword. "This isn't rope, is it?" Dark inquired as he carefully searched for big enough hole for them to get through.

Link sighed and shook his head. "No, it's not. Yet, the fishermen doesn't use this kind of work in their nets." He replied bit sorrowfully. The Hero was going through the net bit faster than what the dark Hylian did. "You do know you don't have to check it that thoroughly, right?" Link inquired as he realized the speed difference in their work.

Dark just shrugged and continued to go through the net as thoroughly as before. "Maybe but I'm just—" He answered but the Hero stopped him at then and there.

"If you're going to say you're just curious, then I think I have to remind you that we're here to save Queen Ruto and not lose time with some stupid nets in here." Link stated bit more harshly than what he meant to. The dark Hylian flinched a bit and slumped. He sighed and started to go through the net much faster while trying to desperately find anything worth of using.

"I was only searching for a possible way of getting part of this net along for possible later use..." Dark thought sorrowfully but his work was cut short when the Hero called his name. The dark Hylian turned towards him and realized very quickly that Link had found the way forward through the net. He let go of the part he had been going through and swam to the Hero. Link went through the hole at first and Dark helped to keep the net from tangling into the Hero's weapons. After that it was the dark Hylian's turn.

Once both were through they continued forward which very soon ended up as going upwards. The further they went, the thinner the pathway started to get and forcing them to go one at a time. Link took the lead and carefully moved forward since the walls were so close already. For a while he got forward but eventually it started to look very thin. "I don't think we'll get through here..." The Hero called bit hesitantly. "Dark, back down. We're not getting through here." He continued louder and started to make his way down from there.

Dark backed out of the way and glanced at the road they had tried to use once Link had come out of there. "Let me try..." He half whispered before already taking his sword and shield off and handing them to the Hero. Link was fully startled but before he had a chance to stop the ex-shadow, he had already returned into the narrowing road.

The dark Hylian got bit further than what the Hero had done. After that the road went way too thin for him. He tried several times on slightly different angles as well as with as much of speed as he was able to get but he still couldn't get through. "All that trouble just to stop here?" Dark thought fully disappointed but he was already thinking a way forward. "What if...?" He wondered and started to back down with a slight frown on his face.

"I told you we're not—" Link started but the darker Hylian shut him up very quickly.

"Wait here. I got a slight idea that I want to try out. If it won't work, then I've just swam this damn place couple of times too much." Dark stated in near pleading tone before he already swam down and started to search his way through the net. Luckily he had good enough memory for this kind of things. Sure, he wasn't good of finding way through Temples and whatnot but things like where something important, like getting through a net, was what stayed in his mind. After that he swam through the holes and back to the start. He still avoided the helping parts.

When Dark got back to the start, he turned around and took couple of deep breaths to stay calm. Once he was certain of being ready for the third swim through the area, he left for it. This time he went through the parts that were much easier and on the second he had gone past through the first one, a timer started to tick. The dark Hylian was bit startled but that only got him to move faster and use the two other quicker way through the walls. It took slight fumbling with the net but he still got through it while the timer was still on.

"Come on Dark! Faster, the road's wider currently!" The Hero shouted and once the ex-shadow came to his side, they started to swim upwards side by side. They got through the thin area a while before the timer ran out. Link sighed in relief and turned towards Dark. "How did you get that road to open?" He inquired while giving the dark Hylian's sword and shield back to him.

The ex-shadow would've shrugged had he not been putting his weapons back on. "Well, I noticed these small areas in the three ways through. Those would've helped us in the first place but I kinda thought it would've only brought out some danger. So, since I knew the road and the way forward was inaccessible, I thought to give it a try." Dark explained without looking at the Hero even once. He felt a bit like he had done something wrong but sighed in relief with Link's next words.

"Good thinking." The Hero said with a smile and a nod before starting to check where they had ended into. The area looked like a cave. The roof was nearly filled with rocky stalactites hanging from there. The sharp parts were making their moving area slightly thinner from place to place. The road continued towards right and because of the stalactites, they couldn't see to the other side of the way.

Link tried to recall the ways of the actual Temple but wasn't certain of what would be above them at then. All he knew was that this time the road followed the wall and wasn't going further inside it. Soon the Hero nodded to the dark Hylian and they left to move forward while carefully rounding the stalactites in there.

The way forward was done slowly. Some of the stalactites were sharp edged so they had to make sure it didn't cut their tunics. Luckily the area didn't have enemies. The road ended into a door. It wasn't locked so they carefully got inside.

In front of them was another wall and the way continued upwards. It was long swim but they eventually broke through the surface. Dark swam straight to the lonely platform that was floating not too far from them. He coughed few times while trying to calm down fully. The dark Hylian gasped a bit when he accidentally glanced downwards and realized how much of water there was right below him. He started to shiver and closed his eyes tightly while breathing quite quickly.

"Are you okay, Dark?" Link inquired bit worriedly as he came up to the platform. Dark gave a quick nod as he tried to catch his breath. Goddesses knew he hated water and even more so when it was as deep as these ways. Even with the Zora tunic on, the dark Hylian was far from eager of being at there but there wasn't any of chances for them to just skip the place.

"Third Temple and freaking out. Goddesses... In all reality I'd rather be at the Shadow Temple by now!" The ex-shadow thought but he knew they had to check all of the Temples and this was one of them. While Dark was trying to calm down, the Hero took a look around them all the while holding on to the dark Hylian and trying to help him to relax.

There was one door right across the area. Not far from them was the upper part of the wall that had been right in front of them when they entered the room. Link stood up carefully to get a better look around. There was similar water area between two walls which upper parts were seen. "Dark... We might be able to get to the door without needing to get back into the water." Link told as calmly as he could.

Dark opened his eyes slowly and gulped once as he saw the water around him before raising his gaze up. He frowned slightly as he watched towards the door. "Your balance is much better than mine, so it shouldn't be hard to get to the door." The Hero said as encouragingly as possible. The dark Hylian gave a small nod and with Link's help he stood up.

"So... How about stepping to that thin part and going forward to the next platform?" Link inquired calmly while letting Dark hang on to him thoroughly. The ex-shadow gave a quick nod but he was far from having the courage of going forward. "Okay, follow me." The Hero continued and carefully placed his right foot to the thin part. "Come on, Dark. It's not hard." He coaxed with a reassuring smile.

Dark gulped once but nodded. He took once a deep breath and finally took a step forward into the thin area. Very soon he had balanced himself to the wall's edge and helped Link over. From there he made it to the slippery platform. "Not so hard, now is it?" The Hero inquired with a smile. The dark Hylian sighed nearly exaggerated and gave a quick and very mild glare to Link.

The Hero grinned a bit at the ex-shadow's reaction. "How about going bit faster now, hmm?" He half challenged and jumped forward only to crash with an invisible wall. Link gasped a bit before already falling into the water between the platform and the wall.

"LINK!" Dark screamed out in near terror, crouched down and shot his hand into the water. It was easy to get a grip of the Hero's tunic, pull him back up and straight to the platform. "Are you okay?! What happened?!" The dark Hylian asked almost in panic.

Link blinked few times in surprise while staring at invisible wall. He frowned and carefully moved to the edge of the platform before leaning forward and pressing his right hand against the wall. "Glass. Should've figured out it's not that easy." The Hero sighed and gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry. Didn't mean to freak you out but looks like we need to dive again." He finally stated.

Dark stared at the scene in full worry but once Link talked, he sighed in relief. "I-it's okay..." He half mumbled and tried to gather his crumbling courage once again. The Hero nodded before returning into the water. The dark Hylian was fully hesitant but he followed Link and soon the duo dived down.

The further they dived the more the ex-shadow hated it. To him it felt fully bottomless place even though he knew there was no such thing in the world. He was bit relieved when the bottom finally came forth and they found a way through to the other side of the wall. After that was just the swim back up. And once again it took a while before Dark calmed down at the floating platform. From there it was again over the next wall, to the next platform and a new dive. Luckily that was the last one before the door.

Dark sighed and leaned against the wall. He really hoped that he didn't have to return into the water for a while. Link also took a short moment of peace before the dark Hylian already pushed himself off of the wall and went to the door. It wasn't locked but before the Hero could give any kind of warning, the ex-shadow already tried to open it. "Look out!" Link shouted, took a grip of Dark's tunic and pulled him backwards and straight into the water.

The dark Hylian freaked out fully and fought back against the grip. Before he managed to kick the Hero, he was already released and he shot straight to the surface. Dark scrambled to the platform and stared at the water in full terror while shaking like a leaf. Link followed him bit slower and once he got to the platform, he already hugged the ex-shadow quite tightly.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to freak you out like that. The door... It's a mimic. Not a real one. It would've slammed hard on you if I hadn't pulled you off of the way." The Hero explained. He had realized quite quickly that that door looked somehow wrong. And when Dark had touched it, the door wobbled which only confused the dark Hylian but gave a full realization to Link.

Once the ex-shadow had calmed down quite a much, the Hero stood up and took out his Megaton Hammer. "Just a sec. I'll handle that thing off of our way." He said as calmly as he could before getting back to the short corridor. Dark watched how Link slammed the hammer into the door and broke it down. As soon as the pieces had hit the ground, they already vanished.

The Hero walked back to the start of the passageway and offered his hand. "Much safer in here, right?" He suggested and the dark Hylian just nodded and took the offered hand. Very soon he had backed away from the water and leaned against the wall behind him. "Let's take a short break before continuing forward." Link stated and carefully sat down. Dark mimicked him without second's thought, pulled his legs into his chest and circled his arms around them before already hiding his face. The Hero carefully pulled him into a tight embrace.

It took a long while but eventually the dark Hylian calmed down. They got up and started to walk towards the new way since the fake door had hidden a free pathway. The new corridor wasn't long and soon ended into another area filled with water. As soon as they came to the edge, two Octoroks popped up to the surface. The purple creatures shot slightly flaming rock towards the two Hylians.

Link quickly pushed Dark backwards while already taking out his shield and reflecting the attacks back. Other one of the rocks missed but the other one struck down one of the Octoroks. The second and remaining one shot another rock which was very easily reflected and struck back into the monster.

The ex-shadow was bit startled about the movement but he was grateful for the Hero to handle the two monsters. He had already freaked out slightly about the next watery room. Of course the dark Hylian knew there to be water nearly everywhere but it still didn't mean that he'd have to calm down just like that when he saw water. Link glanced at Dark who slumped a bit and gave an apologetic smile. The Hero just smiled reassuringly and nodded towards the room.

The room looked quite much like the first one they had come into with two exceptions. The first one was that there was no pillar in the middle of the room that went from the ceiling to the bottom of the room. The second one was lack of doors. There was no doors they could see. The depth of the water seemed to be even deeper than in the first room. So far they didn't see any of monsters.

"We probably should get to the midsection and check things from there." Link suggested as confidently and calmly as he could. The ex-shadow gulped once but nodded his acceptance. Yet, before either one of them could get into the water, Dark already pulled the Hero backwards while withdrawing his sword and holding it in front of him for protection.

Just seconds from there a shadowy creature shot up from the water and launched towards them. The dark Hylian slashed very quickly at the enemy. The sword went straight through the thing while cutting it into two. The creature stumbled backwards while standing on the surface of the water and gathered its two halves. "Your eyesight isn't what it used to be but your ears don't deceive you." The Shadowy thing stated bit startled.

Dark narrowed his eyes while staying on guard. "And you shouldn't attack against the Hero of Light." He countered without speaking out loud. The creature gave a chuckle and shrugged.

"Maybe but you two are going to be in trouble at here." The Shadow stated calmly. "Especially you." It continued with a smirk before turning around and running across the whole room before already jumping to the wall and vanishing back into the Shadows.

"What was that about?" Link inquired bit startled and confused. The dark Hylian sighed and shrugged. He leaned against the wall with slightly worried frown on his face while gazing into the water. "Dark?" The Hero called bit worriedly.

"I'm not sure but out of what the Shadow told... Well, it might get bit more harsher from here on out." Dark finally replied and gulped. "But, like you said, we probably should get to the midsection and see what to do from there." He half whispered as he desperately tried to stay calm and collected while sheathing his sword.

Link gave a quick hug to the ex-shadow. "We'll handle this place as quickly as possible. And we'll be out of here before you know it. I promise." The Hero whispered reassuringly. Dark just simply nodded before he already followed Link into the water and to the midsection of the room.

They climbed up to the square area and walked around a bit. The dark Hylian was slightly shivering but he tried not to show how much he feared the water around them. The Hero glanced at him from time to time but as the ex-shadow caught back his courage, he calmed down and concentrated into finding a way forward. They first rounded the area in search of doors or way forward before going into middle of the area. That was when the monster of the room showed itself to the two Hylians.

The creature shot up from the debts of the room. It was long like a worm. It had pincer in front of its huge mouth which had thousands of tiny sharp teeth. The eyes were glowing red. It had two huge flippers. It couldn't really take a grip of anything with those since those were mainly used to swim in the water. The monster's color was something between black and color of the sand.

The monster hissed without saying a word and slammed its huge flippers into the platform while glaring at the duo. The two Hylians backed off a bit while drawing out their weapons. "I did wonder where all of the Shadows had ended into..." Dark muttered as he stared at the creature.

"Shadow, you say?" Link inquired while carefully changing his weapons for his bow and arrows. The monster still stared at them while holding on to the platform. The Hero carefully took aim while grinning and sending a Light Arrow towards the creature. The worm like water monster gasped and jumped bit backwards to dive into the water. The arrow struck into the wall and fell down. "Damn..." Link muttered but took out another arrow while waiting for the creature to come back.

Instead of coming over the place, the monster slammed on full force into the platform from below. It got the square area to sway harshly and the two Hylians lost their balance. The duo slid bit closer to the edge of the area but luckily they had been in the middle of the platform so the strike didn't cause too much of trouble. Yet, the creature struck again but it just couldn't get the platform to sway hard enough to strike the fighters into the surrounding water.

"Just stay to the middle. It'll be the safest place." The dark Hylian stated even though he knew that the Hero had realized it by then. Link nodded as they stood there back to back and waited for the monster to surface. "It's probably bit too big to cause too much of damage by its current way of attacking." Dark suggested after the third failed attempt from the creature.

"Looks like it. But, I'm certain that's not its only way of striking." The Hero replied after the platform stopped swaying. The ex-shadow nodded but stayed silent. They tried to stay ready for anything as the creature swam around the area and tried to think out a new way of attacking.

Suddenly the monster jumped out of the water and went over the platform without crashing onto it. Both Dark and Link were startled about this since the creature didn't try to cause any of harm. "Okay... That was bit unexpected..." The Hero half whispered but that was when the aquatic worm came back up and slammed it's body onto the platform. It had hoped to get the duo to same side but instead the two Hylians were on different sides of the monster.

The duo had ran to different ways without really meaning it to happen. As the creature tried to figure out what to do while lying on the platform, the two Hylians started to slash at the monster. The worm gave out a scream before starting to roll. It wasn't any kind of choice as it started to move towards the darker Hylian. The only reason for this was the fact of its other flipper being slightly stronger than the other.

Link took out his Longshot and tried to stop the monster but he wasn't strong enough. The hook made slight damage but it didn't stick to it for long enough. The Hero even put the Iron Boots on but that didn't help. The worm kept rolling towards the other end of the area and forced the ex-shadow to move out of the way.

Dark was fully startled when the monster started to try and squish him. He sheathed his sword and turned around. The dark Hylian was fully hating it but he jumped into the water and swam underneath the platform. Soon the aquatic creature splashed into the water and sank bit further down. Dark didn't wait at all. He started to swim out of his safe place and surfaced very quickly right next to the edge of the platform.

Link had followed the rolling beast to the edge while being thoroughly worried for the ex-shadow. On the second Dark surfaced, he already took a grip of him and started to help him back to the platform. It didn't take long before the dark Hylian was on the hard floor and shivering. "Dark, hate to say this but right now is not the time to crash down." The Hero whispered nearly desperately.

Dark just simply nodded and stood up very shakily. Link followed him as they returned to the middle of the square area. The creature was taking surprisingly long while being out of sight. "Probably better on this way. Dark gets the time he needs to calm down and continue the fight." The Hero thought as he stayed fully alert for anything that could imply for an attack.

Suddenly the monster shot back up in front of them. It slammed its flippers onto the platform and spit out strong and long stream of water. Link was fast enough of putting the Iron Boots on and bring the shield in front of him. Dark on the other hand got the strike hard and the strength of the attack hit him off of the platform.

The dark Hylian flew somewhere between the platform and the wall. He shot to the surface as quickly as possible before already swimming towards the platform. "Dark!" The Hero shouted as he took out the Longshot and shot it towards the ex-shadow. Yet, before the hook got anywhere near Dark, the aquatic worm shot up right between Link and the dark Hylian.

The monster slammed its huge flipper right over the ex-shadow and pushed him under the surface. Dark gasped in near panic while trying to get away. The creature came after him and started to swish hits flippers around him. The currents the movement created were strong and slowly pulling the ex-shadow deeper into the water. Dark swam as hard as he could but he couldn't get away from the currents. He tried the Iron Boots too but it wasn't helping him at all.

Suddenly much stronger current took a grip of him. It went close to the walls and slowly towards the bottom of the room. The worm stared at the scene with a wicked grin on its face as the dark Hylian was swept away by the current.

Dark tried to fight back even harder but way too soon the first corner came forth. He just barely managed to avoid hitting into the rocky wall but the second corner came much faster and he couldn't get ready for the impact. The dark Hylian gasped as he hit hard into the uneven wall of the room. It stunned him slightly before he already was struck into the next wall during the third corner. After the fourth hit the ex-shadow fell unconscious. The aquatic monster stared triumphantly as the current dragged Dark further down and eventually into well hidden hallway nearly at the bottom of the room.

Link ran to the edge of the platform. He shot the Longshot at the monster but the creature didn't give a damn about it. The Hero tried several different ways of getting the worm's notion into him but nothing worked. Eventually he jumped into the water and tried to get close. Every time he tried to use the Longshot to get Dark out of there, the monster came right between. Link couldn't do a thing than watch how the dark Hylian was swept away by the stronger current.

Suddenly the monster shot upwards straight towards the Hero. Link avoided the pincers and widely open mouth just barely. He took a grip of the back fin but way too soon the creature slammed the fin down to its back and forced him to let go of it. Link swam back up while desperately avoiding the fast swimming beast. He was just barely lucky to get into the platform when the aquatic worm shot up right from the place where he had been just seconds ago.

The Hero somersaulted forward before getting to his feet and turning around as quickly as possible. The monster slammed back into the water but now it only had one to fight against. Link thought for a while before he already took out his bow and arrows as he waited for the creature to resurface. "A Shadow... That's what you told this worm to be... So, let's go for the Light then..." He thought while drawing out the first arrow and placing it into the string. The Hero stayed to the midsection of the platform while turning around as silently as possible and trying to check all around him.

Suddenly the monster came up from the water. It was ready to strike another stream of water but Link was quicker. He shot the arrow into the creature. The next one he struck behind it and got the worm to crash into the platform. The Hero quickly pulled out his sword and started to slash. "I do not speak the language of Shadows but I do NOT accept my brother being taken away like that!" He screamed before striking one of the arrows into the platform and lighting it with magic.

The worm hissed and tried to get up but Link kept striking at it over and over again. The light was keeping the monster weak as the Hero killed the enemy as quickly as possible. Eventually the worm screamed out and vanished. On its place was several weak Shadows who were nearly whimpering in the light.

Link didn't care about the fact he was pretty much harming the Shadows. "Where the hell you took Dark? Give me the answer and I just might spare your lives." He inquired quite harshly.

The Shadows were silent for a long while before one started to talk. "We do not know, Hero of Light. This monster took us over without our acceptance." It started quietly. The Hero growled and strengthened the magic in the arrow. The Shadows gave a slight scream while trying to protect themselves from the light. "WE DO NOT LIE TO THE HERO OF LIGHT! I swear!" The Shadow shouted in pure fear.

Link sighed in anger but let the magic weaken. "If I cannot find him OR if he's badly hurt, I will hunt you three down. Understood?" He stated sternly. The Shadows nodded fiercely before the Hero finally let the light vanish. "And you three should give help to both me and Dark from now on. Got it?" The Hero continued and gained another fierce nodding from the three. "So... One of you go to search for Dark. One stays with me and one goes ahead to check the place and report to me after each and every room." He looked from Shadow to Shadow as they kept nodding. "Good. And now... MOVE IT!" Link shouted and the Shadows scattered on that second. "Dark... Hang in there... I'm coming." The Hero thought as he dived into the water in hopes of finding a way to get to the dark Hylian.
