The One To Fit My Better Half

"If people hear that you two are sharing a bed, there's going to be a lot of unsavoury commentary to follow."

Edward whined unhappily, shuffling closer to Jacob's warmth, trying to block out the loud voice. The Prince groaned, wrapping his arms tighter around Edward though he turned his head to see Rachel looking at him reprimandingly while Emily only smiled softly. He grinned sleepily but made no move to let go of Edward or get out of bed.

"I'm serious," Rachel said, moving closer to the bed and poking Jacob's arm. "If people find out about this, especially Sol's people, there'll be so much drama and then— —"

"Okay, okay," Jacob said with a sigh and untangled himself from Edward who whined yet again, barrowing himself deeper into the warm covers. Jacob chuckled, kissed his Imprints head then got out of bed. Emily smiled at him, nodding her head.

"So, not really surprising, but everything's moving very fast. All the leaders of the Tribes around the Nation went home yesterday and word has already spread about your visit.

"A 'reliable source' sent an update regarding Prince Jacob's engagement to Vivian Leroé's website and the hash–tag 'who is it' in regards to the news is already trending on twitter and instagram and… tumblr I think it is. I think E! is going to have something to say about it too. Rebecca's on the lookout for— —" Rachel's cellphone pinged continuously for a few seconds. She read through the message she'd gotten and nodded her head. "Speak of the devil… Oh look, CN International One (1) is on it already. Quick!"

Emily hurried to the TV, which sat in the corner of Jacob's room that was used as a sort of lounging area, and turned it on. Jacob strolled over to it, plunking himself down on the plush couch. While Emily switched channels, Jacob craned his head to look at Edward who was now sitting up though still huddled in the covers of the bed. Jacob smiled at his fiancé, winking. Edward smiled back, a slight blush dusting his otherwise pale cheeks.

"And on the biggest story this evening: Prince Jacob's rumoured hunt for a wife or husband has finally come to an end.

"Earlier today Vivian Leroé dot com went into the spotlight when one of the bloggers so–called 'reliable sources' informed her that an impromptu Council Meeting was called in at The Isles today to allow Prince Jacob to introduce his future wife or husband to the many leaders of the Nation. Although the rumours have yet to be confirmed since the news came out, many people are already reacting."

A video of a large crowd of people standing outside the La Push Embassy in Washington DC played. The people were waving flags and celebrating, some had signs with Congratulations Prince Jacob written on them in bright glittery colours.

"How are there already so many people?" Edward asked, finally shuffling out of bed and walking towards the couch, the thick cover wrapped tightly around his body. "How are they so sure that Jacob's really engaged, how do they know this isn't another rumour?" Jacob hummed, running a hand through his hair.

"Because this— —" indicating to herself, "—reliable source has never been wrong and she isn't about to start now," Rachel said matter–of–factly. Edward dropped himself down on the couch beside Jacob and looked at him. Jacob was pulling a disgusted face at the TV. Edward frowned. "You get used to the faces he pulls," the woman said. "He makes them every time he's mentioned in the news."

Jacob looked towards Edward then and grinned. "Hey good looking," he said, wriggling his eyebrows. Edward giggled—he seemed to be doing a lot of that lately.

"Gods," Rachel mumbled, rolling her eyes. She shut the TV knowing too well that Jacob's concentration was completely lost now that he had better things to concentrate on. She opened her notebook and started reading through it. "Anyway, I've compiled a list of all the Tribes you'll be visiting for the next month."

"A month?" Edwards asked, surprised it would take that long. He'd just assumed it would be maybe a week, or two maximum.

"The Isles is a very big place, hon. And you have to spend at least three days in each place, getting to know it, getting to know its People. After your wedding you'll be required to go back to each place and spend more time there.

"We're going to start here at home obviously, people are already preparing for this, they've been preparing since last night so thing should be pretty much ready by the time breakfast is over. Everywhere else has a bit more time to prepare though it's all going to be done pretty quickly if the wedding is going to take place in a month's time."

"We're getting married in a month?" Edward asked, his voice surprisingly not shaking or anything.

"Yep. Well, not exactly. The Council has granted that the wedding be in a month and two, maybe three, weeks. We can't possibly be done with everything in a month, no matter how fast we work. And besides, there's so much that we have to get through, you two needs to pick tuxedoes, colour schemes, pick a cake, there is so much that needs to be done. It cannot be done in a mere month, even if we start now."

Edward only hummed, though he was fighting his nerves. Jacob must've sensed something because his arms tightened around Edward and he kissed him gently. Edward relaxed against his fiancé with a sigh.

"We've also invited a few news stations, Isles people only and everyone's already cautioned to be very hush–hush about who you are, we're going to do an official announcement to the world when you come back in a month, then we'll let all other news stations from around the world to come here and take as many pictures as they want.

"Nobody's expected to say anything, not for the Travels, though I'm sure there'll be questions you might need to answer when the outside new people come, so be prepared for anything.

"Rebecca's already got suitcases packed for you, so that's set and ready and you don't have to worry yourself so much.

"Now then, you two need to shower—separately—and join the King for breakfast." Rachel shut her notebook with a sigh. "You have half an hour before you're both expected to show up for breakfast so hurry it up." With that, the women go up from where she'd been sitting and headed out the room.

"I trust you'll be able to get dressed without my help?" Emily asked Jacob as she gently pulled Edward off the couch so she could get him to his own room to help him get ready for his first breakfast with the King.

"I've been doing it all my life," Jacob replied with a cheeky grin. Emily raised a brow at that but she smiled.

"I'm sure you have, honey. I'll come in and check on you when I'm done with this one."

"Look after him, Em. I expect to have him back in one piece."

"Don't you worry about a thing, hon."

"Kay." Jacob nodded, getting up off the couch and heading to Edward. "Bye Ed," he said, giving his Imprint a gentle kiss. "I'll see you in half an hour."

"Bye Jake," Edward said.

"You'll see each other soon," Emily promised as she started pulling Edward towards the door. "I promise you both you'll see each other again." Both boys nodded their heads and Edward gave a last wave before he disappeared out the door with Emily.

When Edward arrived for breakfast in the King's private rooms he found that Jacob was already there. The King and Prince were sitting opposite each other at the round table; talking about something or another while the King also read the morning paper. Jacob was absorbed in the toast he was buttering and didn't notice Edward walk in.

Edward shuffled awkward by the door and didn't know what to do. Nobody had actually told him what he was supposed to do when he arrived—nobody was even there to announce his arrive like he'd seen in movies and on top of that nobody had told him if he should bow or not. That reminded him that he actually hadn't seen a lot of people bowing whenever Jacob or his father were around—he'd need to ask about that.

After a moment Edward walked towards the table. Jacob chose that moment to look up and he gave Edward a megawatt smile, getting up and hurrying towards him. Edward returned the smile shyly and a blush bloomed on his face when Jacob took his hand and kissed him gently.

"Hey," the Prince said, still smiling.

"Hi," Edward replied quietly. Jacob led Edward to the table, pulling a chair out for him at the table. The King looked up, smiling kindly at Edward. The copper–head couldn't help smiling back. Yeah, Edward could definitely see where Jacob got his smile from.

"Good morning, Edward," the King greeted, putting his paper down.

"Good morning, your Majesty," Edward replied respectfully. He seriously didn't know what else to do.

"Oh son, you don't need to be all formal with me. You can call me Billy, Jacob does it too."

"Thank you y— uh Billy."

"Relax kid. You don't have to be awkward around me."

"I don't really know how I'm supposed to act around you, to be honest." Edward figured honesty was the best policy. He'd never had to deal with Kings or Princes before, had only imagined like anyone else, but now here he was. No movie or TV show would've prepared him for this.

"You act how you would with any of your family members. We're going to be family, son. There's no need for you to be shy around me."

"Dad thinks he's cool," Jacob said, grinning. "And he also makes horrible dad jokes. Dad jokes are not beneath the King of the Isles."

"My dad makes those too," Edward said, pulling a face. They were so lame that they were actually funny, but Edward loved his father, dad jokes and all.

"See dad, nobody likes lame dad jokes."

"You're just jealous because we're so much funnier than you," the King said. Both Jacob and Edward pulled horrified faces and the King laughed. "Eat your breakfast before the storm that is Rachel comes in here and tells us it's time to go."

Jacob sighed, going back to his toast and the King started on his fruit salad. Edward looked at the breakfast foods decked out on the table. It looked like something from a magazine or movie set, all brightly coloured and neat and delicious looking. And it also smelt really good.

Edward was familiar with lots of food being decked out, but usually something or another was burnt, a fruit was too ripe or not ripe enough and you know, normal. But here everything was so neat, food cooked to perfection, fruits just the right side of ripe. It was all so picturesque and it made Edward nervous and happy all at once.

After another moment of just staring at all the pretty food, Edward grabbed a slice of toast and spread butter and strawberry jam on it. It was still warm, the butter soft, the jam surprisingly compliant with being scooped up using a butter knife. When Edward took a bight he almost died, not because of anything bad but because—swear to god—he'd never tasted toast as good as that one. So he grabbed another slice, this one he ate on its own and it was still one of the best things he'd ever tasted.

Jacob chuckled, and Edward looked up to see the Prince and his father looking at him with identical grins. Edward blushed, not sure if he'd been humming out loud or if the sounds had stuck strictly to his head… probably not.

"Good, right?" Jacob asked, smiling.

"Amazing," Edward agreed before taking another bite because he could.

"I know. I don't know what Sue does, but whatever it is, I hope she never stops. You'll meet Sue soon, her and Harry. They're family friends."

"Harry is like a brother to me," Billy said. "My most trusted adviser along with Old Quil."

Jacob nodded. "You'll be meeting all the important people in my life today, and you'll also meet the rest of my Pack. You're gonna love Seth, he's like a ball of sunshine."

"More so than you are?" Edward had to ask, because Jacob was sunshine personified.

"You haven't met Seth," Billy said with a chuckle. "That kid sees the good in everything. He's literal rainbows and sunshine, that one."

"But I suppose it evens out since Leah's so cold. Leah's Seth's sister, she's also part of the Pack, only female to Shifter in decades." Edward nodded, committing the information to memory. "She might seem cold when you two first meet, but don't worry, she's actually really nice. She's like Rosalie, all hard exterior but mushy insides. She's also my unofficial Beta."

Edward frowned and asked, "Unofficial?"

"Well Sam's my Beta, as you know, but whenever Sam's not around, Leah takes charge, so she's technically my third, but I prefer the term unofficial Beta coz if I really had to pick between her and Sam…. She's badass, and she's queen."

"She's queen?"

"Yeah, like she rules, Ed, she rules."

"Do you have a crush, Jake?"

"On Leah? Nah man, she's my sister."

Rachel came in then, notebook open. She sat down on the empty chair across from Edward and sighed. "You've got ten minutes before we have to leave," the woman said. "The courtyard is already filling up with people. Everything's pretty much set and I think we might be done lunchtime which means that we'll be able to leave before dinner. If the Spirits are by our side, we'll be at our first destination by dinner time."

Jacob and Billy nodded easily, humming as they hurriedly finished eating their food.

Edward on the other hand suddenly felt really nervous and was losing his appetite rather quickly. Although Emily had given him a quick rundown on what he should expect, Edward didn't think he was ready enough to actually do this whole meet–and–greet thing with the People—especially with the people most important to Jacob.

Everything was going so fast that Edward wasn't being given a lot of time to adjust to anything. Maybe that was a good thing though; it gave Edward less time to freak out.

"Hey, Masen!" Edward looked up and saw Rachel looking at him kindly. "You're going to be fine. Emily absolutely adores you which means you're already in everyone's good books. If Emily likes you then you're safe, ask Rosalie."

Jacob chuckled, nodding his head in agreement. "They're going to love you, Ed," Jacob said easily. "I know they are." Edward nodded, though he wasn't exactly convinced. But whatever, he'd just be himself and hope that people liked him for him.

Exactly ten minutes later, breakfast ended and Rachel hurried everyone out the room and leading them to the courtyard. Edward had a tight grip on Jacob's hand the entire time and the Prince made no move to let go which Edward was eternally grateful for. As they got closer to the courtyard Edward could hear the noise of the people gathering there. His stomach tied up into almost painful knots and his knees suddenly felt extra weak. Jacob—bless his soul—suddenly stopped walking and turned to Edward. He didn't say anything, didn't have to, and pressed his forehead.

"You're going to be absolutely amazing," the Prince thought gently before kissing Edward softly. "I won't let go," he promised, squeezing Edward's hand. Edward nodded. He trusted Jacob to keep his promise, was sure Jacob would ad that seemed to relax him, if only just a little bit. They continued walking.

When they turned the corner, Edward was surprised to see a small crowd of people. He looked at Jacob and saw the Prince smiling brightly. Edward guessed that these were the important people in Jacob's life, his friends and family. These were the people Edward needed to impress the most.

"Just be yourself, babe, they'll love you." Edward nodded, Jacob squeezed his hand. "I won't let go."

Emily hurried towards Jacob and Edward and smiled so warmly that Edward couldn't not smile back and couldn't not relax. He didn't know very much about Emily but he already loved her and her sweet and calming nature. The woman took Edward's free hand and squeezed it encouragingly before letting go.

"We ready?" Jacob asked looking at Edward. The ginger–head nodded his head. Might as well.

"You'll be fine," Emily promised. "Jacob and I will be right here with you, we aren't going anywhere." Edward nodded and he allowed Emily to lead him forward.

[]

Jacob's friends and family had to be some of the nicest people Edward had ever had the pleasure of meeting! They were all so nice, all smiling warmly and kindly and making Edward relax in a way he hadn't expected to. They seemed to like him enough and Edward liked them too, even Leah Clearwater gave him a smile, calling him adorable which Jacob counted as a huge win—Edward would take his word for it.

Seth, sweet little Seth Clearwater, really was literal sunshine and rainbows. While everyone else mostly stuck to shaking Edward's hand, Seth just jumped in and hugged him. Edward didn't even have time to be awkward because well Seth gave him an amazing full body hug and Edward couldn't help melting into it. Sure it wasn't like being hugged by Jacob, but it was just as soothing and Edward found himself giggling.

He liked Seth very much, liked his parents too. Harry and Sue Clearwater reminded Edward of his own parents and he just… he really liked them. Sue was soft and gentle—like his mother, like Emily—and she touched his face gently, patting his hair as she talked to him and Edward surprising accepted the touching without having to try. Harry was almost stiff in the way he stood but he had these warm eyes and his whole body just screamed loving dad and it reminded Edward of his own father, same stiffness but with those warm dad eyes.

Edward also met Jacob's other Pack brothers, he met Jared Cameron and his Imprint, Kim. Jared was a bit standoffish at first but Kim seemed really sweet, and she knew her Imprinter well enough because she did stage–whisper to Edward that Jared could get like that but would warm up to him in no time, Edward believed her.

He met Collin and Brady, the youngest of the Prince's Pack. They were both shy and quiet withdrawn from everyone. Jacob said it was because they'd only recently Shifted and were still getting used to it, getting used to controlling their anger and not Shifting uncontrollably. He said he didn't smell any distress on them so the Shifting must've gone all right and it was just a matter of control that worried them. Edward didn't know why, but he really wanted to hug both boys, so he did, smiling at them and telling them they were doing really well.

At first everyone sort of fell silent and Edward thought he must've done something wrong, but then everyone was talking loudly and excitedly to Jacob and Old Quil—who Edward seriously liked because the man reminded Edward of his seanmháthair with his soft hands and warm eyesand kind smile—trying to figure out how he'd known to reacted that way. Old Quil only smiled at him and wouldn't let up, while Jacob shrugged because he honestly didn't know how Edward had known.

After the very successful meeting—yes, Edward counted it as a big win because it definitely was—everyone went to join the crowds to officially meet the Prince's fiancé giving Edward, Jacob and Billy a moment to prepare themselves, Rachel stayed with them, to make sure things still went to plan along with Emily.

Edward's nervousness came back tenfold. He gripped Jacob's hand almost painfully as he tried to breathe through a slight panic attack. Jacob didn't let go of his hand though, still there, smiling encouragingly down at him.

"You're going to be all right," Emily promised, touching Edward's arm gently. "They're going to absolutely love you. You're a sweetheart, Edward, an absolute gem!" She pulled Edward into a tight hug, rubbing his back soothingly and Edward felt himself slowly relax.

"You're going to knock them out with your awesomeness," Jacob said. Emily finally let Edward go and she took his hand and squeezed it gently.

"Jacob and I are going to be right there with you." Edward nodded, trusting her. Seriously, what was there not to love about Emily?

Billy and Rachel left them, the King going to greet the People, talk to them a bit, interact, and maybe answer a few questions. It only took about ten minutes before Rachel signalled for Edward and Jacob to step forward. Emily squeezed Edward's hand one more time before letting go and allowing Jacob and Edward to go join the King at the podium by the steps leading into the castle.

Cameras flashed, people cheered, Edward didn't know what to do. He wasn't good with crowds, wasn't even good with making speeches in front of his closest friends without his heart feeling like it would burst out of his chest and he could honestly feel himself starting to freak out. There were so many bright lights, so much noise and people were asking questions and he couldn't hear anything.

"Hey," Jacob thought at him gently. "Look at me, Ed. Just look at me." Edward did, turning his head to look at Jacob, to concentrate on him. His face softened, Jacob was giving him that look, smiling warmly at him. "I've got you," Jacob promised, wrapping an arm around Edward.

Edward smiled, everything slipping away from him as he concentrated on Jacob and Jacob alone. Jacob's own smile widened.

"I'm right here," the Prince thought, still smiling.

Edward relaxed, Jacob's hand warm and comforting in his. He got lot in those brown orbs, feeling butterflies erupt in his belly as Jacob gave him that look. Edward smiled shyly, blushing as he looked down at their joined hands, biting at his lip nervously. He heard Jacob chuckle.

"You're ridiculously cute, I hope you know that."

"Oh shut up," Edward mumbled, though he still smiled. Jacob chuckled again and kissed him quickly on the lips before pretending to pay attention to what his father was saying. Edward did the same, keeping his eyes mostly at the King and trying not to giggle as Jacob sent cute little thoughts his way.

All in all, things weren't so bad and nobody—Edward—fainted, so that was a win all round. Now Edward just had to survive about twenty or so more of these then he'd be home free for at least a month, not bad.

TBC…

Shit ending coz this stupid thing just kept going… I'm not a huge fan of this chapter, especially the ending, but ah well, can't like them all…

If anyone is wondering—though maybe you're not—on how to pronounce Leroé—which is not even a real surname—it's pronounced Le–row–way.

(1) Fake news broadcasting channel: Celebrity News International. They are exactly as the name suggests except CN International One is more serious, like they talk about like, the Queen. But CN International Two is like E! They even have their own reality shows and junk. So yeah… that.

Anywhoo…

Bye!
