Total Eclipse of the Heart

OK so I'm so so sorry I haven't updated this in ages. It's been a mix or reasons but still that is no excuse to leave you hanging. I hope this chapter is worth it (review if it is, feel free to flame if it's weak just be constructive about it rather then hurtful) Anyway hopefully the final chapter will come with less of a gap...thanks again for reading

Matt watched his brother and sister in law make their way to the floor and turned his head toward Nadine.

"As soon as we can...would you like to dance Crowell."

Nadine nodded.

"Love to Hunter."

However in that moment the happy couple on the floor stopped dancing and the Bride grabbed her side looking up at the occupants of the party who were mostly all doctors.

"It's Time...."

All eyes looked over at the petite brunette who was now hunched on the ground holding her stomach.

Dr. Lee ran to her side shouting out instructions as things all seemed to blur together in the moment.

--

....hours later at General Hospital.

They were waiting and waiting and waiting to find out if she had given birth yet though the crowd in the waiting room seemed to thin out as the hours had passed.

"I thought you guys could use a pick me up," Milo said entering the waiting area from the elevator with a cardboard drink holder.

Claire who had changed from her dress into a pair of pale purple scrubs when she kissed her boyfriends cheek before taking a cup and taking a sip making a face just moments later.

"It's cold."

Milo placed the tray on the counter of the closest nurse's station and shrugged his shoulders back.

"I'm sorry; it's either cold coffee from the coffee house or the crap they serve here."

It was then that Lucas entered with cups from the cafeteria and Claire grabbed one.

"It may be crap but its hot crap," She said giving her apologetic look.

Milo simply shook his head trying to hold back a laugh thinking that for the first time he was truly blessed to of found someone as cute and sweet as Claire who liked him back.

In the on-call room Matt was pacing.

"She should have had the baby by now, shouldn't she...I mean I know she isn't due for a week or two but...."

"Relax," Nadine said placing her hand on his shoulder while running her other hand through his hair, "it's perfectly natural for it to take this long."

"But Robin's condition, the longer it takes couldn't it make matters worse."

"Dr. Lee knows what she's doing and if she thinks that Robin needs to pop your baby niece out sooner rather then later she'd make it happen."

Matt nodded as he knew he was over reacting as he looked into her eyes.

'God those are pretty eyes,' he thought to himself as he leaned over to give her a quick kiss.

"What was that for," Nadine asked knowing that Matthew Hunter never needed an excuse to kiss her, at least not now.

"I don't know, I guess I'm sorry I'm being a sentimental wreck even before the baby is born."

He let out a laugh.

"I'm going to be such a girl when she is actually born."

Nadine nodded.

"She'll be wrapped around her finger in 3.5 seconds I'm sure."

Matt nodded in agreement.

"Anyway I'm also sorry that we didn't get a chance to have that dance at the wedding."

Nadine's lips curled into a devious smile.

"Well there is a radio her Dr. Hunter, we could..."

He looked from the radio back to the quirky blonde who stalked her way into his heart and briefly pondered taking her up on her offer however he shook his head.

"I can't, what if the baby comes...but I promise you that I will give you a dance sometime soon."

Nadine flashed another wicked grin.

"Care to seal it with a kiss."

"Nurse Crowell when did you become so bad..."

Running into his arms she planted another, deeper kiss onto his lips before there was a coughing sound in the doorway.

In the hallway outside the nursery Maxie was looking through the glass window at the babies all bundled up? Still dressed in her bridesmaid dress she felt a tingle run down her spine as she watched a jacket being gently placed over her shoulder smelling of a familiar Orangey Mint sent.

"You know a watched pot never boils Maximista."

Turning around she looked into Spinelli's eyes, a half smile crossing her lips.

"I know but it's been hours Spinelli, she should be here now."

"I know she should have been here already but there must be some reason that the gods and goddesses are prolonging it."

"If it was to punish me for my selfishness and make me have to share my birthday they accomplished that."

Looking over at the clock on the wall Spinelli suddenly noticed it was half past twelve.

"So not the spa day and birthday dinner you had in mind huh."

She shook her head before resting it on his shoulder allowing him to stoke her blonde locks.

"Might I be the first to wish you Happy Birthday Maximista," Spinelli whispered.

"That you may," Maxie replied.

"Happy Birthday." he replied again as he gently kissed her cheek watching her close her eyes looking like a true angel.

Back in the other part of the waiting room Milo and Claire were sitting along with Kyle and Lucas.

"Why are we sitting here again," Kyle asked, "not to be rude or anything but Robin and Patrick aren't immediate family."

"They are our colleagues Kyle," Claire replied, "plus it's Maxie's family and Maxie is our friend."

"And My cousin," Lucas replied causing Kyle to nod as he sipped his coffee in silence.

"I wonder what's taking so long," Claire said, "I mean if something was up Kyle do you think we'd be paged."

Kyle shrugged thinking that although they were only on the bottom rungs of the hospital food chain, well above orderlies but still, that they wouldn't be the first line of 's defense if Robin had complications.

"I'll call Spinelli," Milo said, "see if he can't tell us more."

"You can't use phones in here Milo," Claire said giving him a sweet smile, "but it was a nice thought."

"Well then can't we get a doctor or nurse or someone to page Matt or someone to come and tell us what the hell is up?"

Lucas seemed to look calm as he looked up.

"Have a little faith guys, if they need to tell us something good or bad they will, waiting is the hardest part but at least we are all together."

The trio agreed as they tried to get their minds off of Robin's plight.

--

Patrick had felt sorry he broke up his brother's moment but needed to be there in that moment.

"I-is something wrong," Matt asked as he looked into his brother's eyes with a sudden feeling of pain rushing inside him thinking that his sister in law, niece, or both were in jeopardy.

"Patrick, is something wrong, is Robin...the baby."

Matt couldn't get himself to say it but from the look in his eyes Patrick knew.

"They are fine; in fact according to Kelly she should be making her entery any minute so I wanted you to come closer to the delivery room."

Matt nodded and took Nadine's hand following Patrick out of the on-call room and toward where Robin was being held.

--

Another hour, maybe two had passed and still no word.

"Spin," Maxie asked looking down at herself, "do you think Epiphany or Monica or whoever is in charge of things these days would mind if I went to the on call room, took a shower, and borrow a pair of fresh scrubs."

Spinelli tried to picture Maxie dressed in scrubs with her always perfect blonde hair messily tied back. In his mind she was the picture of perfection.

"I mean I know they aren't fashionable or anything, but I volunteered here, Robin is my cousin..."

Her rambling stopped as through the glass Nadine and Epiphany had entered holding a little bundle wrapped up in a pink blanket and placed it an empty bassinet.

"Spinelli, do you think..."

He looked into her icy gray eyes which were littered with curiosity as he watched the blonde nurse slip a name card into the holder.

EMMA GRACE SCORPIO DRAKE

The name was a mouthful but it was still love in her eyes.

"Oh my god," she squealed as his arms wrapped around her petite frame as they watched the miracle of life happen in front of them.

--

"Hey there Emma," Matt said as he held the baby, "I'm your uncle Matt, I'm sorry we didn't get to talk sooner but just to be clear if you ever need anything you can always ask me..."

Everyone looked at Matt and felt all fluttery.

"Can we come in," Claire asked from the doorway.

Patrick nodded and Robin smiled.

"The more the merrier," she said as everyone crowded into the room and became introduced to little Emma Grace.

In that moment everyone's lives changed weather they knew it or not.
