Chapter 34
Max POV
"What are you doing here?" I asked Micheal Papa. Yes, that was his real name. It's sad really, pour man. "Well, you are aware of my other clients, yes?" I nodded at Micheal. "Well, do you know a Nicklaus Mills and a Jason Mills?" I nodded and Fang said, "I'm Nicklaus Mills." Micheal nodded a hello to him then continued, "Your brother, Jason Mills, hit a car, drunk last night." Fang took an intake of breath. "I am Jason's parole officer, along with Max's. This accident includes both of them." My heart started to pound out of my chest. "It seems that Jason hit Ms. Valencia Martinez-" I tuned him out after that, not wanting to hear. "Max?" Fang whispered in my ear. "I'm Fine," I turned to Micheal. "Is she okay?" I asked warily.
"She will be fine, she is in a coma, but will be fine." I nodded not believing him as my world stopped and I felt like the only one in the world. "Can we go see her?" Ella asked standing up along with Nudge. Micheal nodded moving towards the door, "Come with me and we'll see what happens." Well that made me feel better. We piled into Micheal's car after we changed quickly. We rode in silence to the hospital. It was awkward. I hadn't seen Micheal in a year, not since Tess died. When Micheal found out about J.J she went to jail for a year and Micheal decided what was best for me. They thought boarding school, but I didn't want to. So they...made me stop.
They made me go to a therapist, a police officer escorted me, everyday. Then I stopped so here I am today, scared half to death about the life I am living now. I am scared, everyday I wake up. Sam may come back, Mom may die. Not every story ends with a happy ending. I know this sounds totally O.O.C but it's time to be blunt. I am ready to deal with whatever comes my way and I am ready to deal with it the way I can. We stopped in front of the tall white building I have been to not to long ago. I got of the car along with Nudge, Ella, Fang, and Micheal. We walked into the hospital; up to the desk. "Hi, I'm looking for Valencia Martinez." The women looked up and smiled at me.
"She is in testing right now so please wait in the next room." I looked down at her name tag that read, Ashley. "Well, that is my mother. I would like to wait in her room for her to get out. Please." I said getting angrier by each second. "I am sorry miss, but you have to wait," Ashley smiled again, way to chipper for my liking. "Well, Ashley, I am almost positive that if you don't give me what I want, I will beat you silly. Then you will go home to the worthless piece of shit you call a husband," I noted seeing her wedding ring and the picture of a baby and a gruffly man on her desk with fake smiles, "Then you will go put your child to bed, you crying instead of the baby." I looked her in the eye to see her frightened.
"But that won't be the last of your night. After the baby goes to bed, you will tell your husband your day as he sexually abuses you, up till you cry your eyes out. No one hearing your cries. The saddest thing is though, it was because you didn't give the room number to the ravishing creature in front of you. I bet you are wondering how I know all this." She nodded scared half to death. "I was in your same shoes when I was only ten years old." I smirked and crossed my arms as I heard three shallow breaths behind me. "Down the hall tenth door to your left." She whispered.
"Thank You!" I said smiling widely. As we walked away, the three of them at the same time said, "Creepy..." I turned and grinned at them, "No, that was creepy." I said meaning them talking all at the same time. I then walked into Mom's room. Mom lied there with a breathing mask over her face. A broken arm and leg and her heart beat normal. Why was she still her, she seemed fine. She should be home making cookies and smiling at me as I walk into the kitchen, but grimacing as she saw Fang walk in behind me as she realizes that he spent the night. That is my mom, protective and always there, but still the most secretive women I know.
Even though I told the women, Ashley that I was in the same shoes as her, Mom was in one shoe and I was in the other. Mom was the women with the four children, putting them away crying because of Jeb, the man she thought she loved and she was crying because he hated me. Then I was in the shoe getting sexually abused and putting so much work in the jobs I had to do, just so I could keep the secrets I had. That was my life then and I turned out pretty well, hopefully Ashley will too. Nudge and Ella went to one side as Fang and I went to another. Micheal stood at the foot of the bed. I don't know how long we all stood there, but just as we were about to sit we all saw something that made us want to jump for joy.
Mom's hand grasped mine where it rested on the bed. I smiled, "She moved, she moved, she's going to be okay, she's going to be okay!" I smiled even wider as Fang kissed my cheek and half-smiled back at me. Then realization crossed on Fang's face. "What, what's wrong?" I asked him. Fang looked over at Micheal, "What happened to my brother?"
