Chapter 36
First Light on the Fifth Day
I managed to get Haldir to the keep. Only the wounded king was there. I sat Haldir down on a bench and looked at Gamling.
"Where is my family?"
He looked back outside the door and I slowly turned.
"Lady Elena you cannot go back out there. The fortress has been breached." Haldir said.
"I can and I am going to! That is my family and best friend out there."
"Then I am going with you."
"Like hell! You are wounded and in no condition to fight anymore. You stay here am I understood?"
He sighed but nodded and I ran back out into the night. I called their names and saw my uncle and Gimli fighting out on the courseway.
"ARAGORN!"
I looked up and saw my husband toss down a rope. I knew they were safe but I could not find my brother.
"ALEJANDRO!?"
I fought through all the uruks that got in my way. My uncle finally pulled me back inside the keep. Alejandro was still nowhere to be found. I was scared. What if he was dead?! I looked at Legolas with tears in my eyes.
"Alejandro is gone! I could not find him!"
Legolas pulled me into his arms.
"The lad was right next to me the whole time! Until I went to the bridge with Aragorn. I should have been watching, forgive me lassie."
I shook my head.
"It is not your fault Gimli. Do not blame…."
I stopped and screamed. I held my head in my hands when I heard a voice invade my mind.
"I have your brother! If you want him alive then come to Isenguard!"
Legolas' POV
I did not know what to do! When she stopped screaming I looked at her with concern.
"What happened lass?" Gimli asked alarmed.
The dwarf really did cared for my wife and her brother.
"Saruman. He has Alejandro."
I remember when she had stumbled back in the Golden Hall. It must have been Saruman's voice she had heard!
"The fortress is taken, it is over!" Théoden said.
"You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it! They still defend it! They have died defending it!"
The uruks were pounding on the door.
Elena's POV
"Is there no other way for the women and children to get out of the caves?" Théoden was silent. "Is there no other way?!" Uncle repeated.
"There is one passage, it leads into the mountains. But they will not get far the Uruk-hai are too many!" said Gamling.
I drew my blades and they looked at me.
"Not while I am still alive." I said.
Legolas looked at me and I smiled.
"~He loves her, Eoywn. If there is a chance I can save her, then I will take it. Please understand.~"
He walked forward and grabbed my hips. He pulled me to him.
"You and I both understand that. But please…..stay alive."
"Only if you promise to do the same."
"I promise."
I kissed him passionately and then made my way to the caves.
"Eowyn!" I called.
She ran to me.
"Where is Alejandro?"
"There is no time! Help me gather the women and children, we must move into the mountain pass."
She drew a sword and nodded. We gathered the women and children and a horn started to ring through the hair. It continued and I heard something behind us. A few of the Uruk-hai had gotten in. I stopped and took out my bow and set an arrow in the string. I killed all of them and then I heard a word I thought I might never hear.
"VICTORY! WE HAVE VICTORY!"
I smiled and looked at Eowyn. We both went back and when I got outside I saw Gandalf. I smiled and shook my head.
"For a wizard is never late nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." I said.
I ran down onto the battlefield and my heart nearly stopped. Legolas was on the ground with an arrow in his chest and in his side.
"LEGOLAS!"
