The group looked down at Luke as if he were a dying man. Of course, he did have a wet rag pressed to his forehead, and a bucket that he occasionally had been throwing up in for the past two weeks.
"Someone help me up, I gotta use the bathroom." Luke mumbled to the worried crowd. Jordan stepped up, taking Luke's hand and pulling him forward to where he had an arm around his waist to support him. His head was pounding and his heart was beating furiously as if he were on a rollercoaster. He was about ready to snap at someone if they gave him another pitied look before he felt the urge to sneeze out whatever illness he'd been infected with.
His weak body didn't allow him to separate from Jordan in time, and the younger man was spotted with a mixture of crimson and a transparent fluid. Luke's cheeks flamed at the sight, reaching for the handkerchief in his pocket, then handing it to Jordan.
"Sorry." Luke whispered as Jordan carried him outside to where he could relieve himself.
"It's okay, you're sick. Can't help it." Jordan muttered as he turned his back to face Luke, allowing a sliver of privacy that wouldn't diminish the weak man's pride, or what he had left of it.
Isabelle chased after her children, a smile on her face. Liv was trying her best to outrun her father, who was cleverly faking his missed graspings each time he gave a small lunge at her. Jack was trying to make something out of the colored blocks he was handed to, and Isabelle couldn't stop a smile from spreading on her face as he stacked a tower out of the reds and greens.
"Such a smart boy." She cooed at her son, who, in turn, flashed her a toothy grin. She ruffled her hands through the tousled curls of his hair, enjoying her son's presence.
"Isabelle, can you check on the baby?" Simon asked, adjusting the collar of his shirt as have Liv a piggyback ride. Isabelle stood up, her knees popping in protest, and walked over to the stroller that was a few feet away from them. Sand was mushing under her feet, slivering into the crevices of her toes that her sandals did nothing to protect.
Approaching the stroller, she heard the little girl cooing, and smiled to herself. When she leaned her head into the stroller, she was shocked to find it empty. When she turned around, her family was gone. Grasping for the stroller behind her, nothing appeared in her hands and Isabelle was starting to panic. Worse more, she heard a sickening chuckle arise from the corner of her eye.
"She has your eyes." The woman chuckled as she held Isabelle's baby in her arms. Isabelle reached out for the infant, scared that the woman was going to harm her child. The woman tsked at her, giving her a smile full of false pity.
"Please, just give her to me." Isabelle pleaded.
"But don't you see?" She shook her head at the woman, begging for clarification. "She's already mine." The woman smiled, and with that, she disappeared.
Her eyes flashed open, alert to the sound of baby crying. Isabelle lifted her head, the weight of her dream still heavy on her mind, and sauntered over to the makeshift bassinet. Jack was wailing, his fists flailing out angrily as no one had seemed to answer his calls.
"Mommy's got you." Isabelle said, holding him to her, humming softly in his ear. Jack snaked his arm around her neck, clinging to her for all he was worth. Gently, she began to rock him back and forth until he was no longer crying, only whimpering in her ear. She kissed his head, his soft curls caressing her face.
"Mommy's got you."
"Ava, honey, quick pulling on Jace's hair. He leaned into Ava's ear and she eagerly pressed the side of her head to his mouth so that he could share a secret with her.
"She's just jealous." Jace not-too-quietly whispered to Ava. Sebastian chuckled dryly, not wanting to hear about Clary's intimate life. Clary blushed heavily at her daughter before walking over to pick her up. There was still some worry left after nearly losing her a few weeks ago.
"Come here sweetheart." Jace said, stretching her arms out for Ava, who surprisingly ran into them. She hadn't been so close to her mother in what had seemed to be the day Jace left. Even with the massive amount of love she felt for her father, having Jace there appeared to have made the little girl complete.
"Lee, show Mommy what we found!" She giggled. Clary flashed Liam a confused look before walking up to Clary with his hands behind his back. She waited what seemed like forever before Liam fished something out of his pocket. Clary grimaced, nearly puking at the sight of what her children had found.
"Liam, gross." She whined at the small toad. Liam smirked, setting the frog on the floor as it let out a few noises of distress. The little amphibian hopped over to Theo, making the toddler squeal and run into Jace's arms. Jace's face reddened, a wide grin forming at the corners of him mouth as he rocked his son back into his tranquil default.
"Sorry Theo," Liam apologized, picking up the animal and setting it in his pocket. The toad peaked it's head out, observing them before retreating from the sunlight. Liam patted his pocket before staring back at his mother with pleading eyes.
"Can I keep it, please Mommy?" His lower lip pouted out, and Clary was struggling to make up a decision before Sebastian patted his shoulder.
"Remember what I told you about loving something?" Sebastian asked his son, whose eyebrows pursed together in deep thought. His eyes widened as he seemed to recall the sentence.
"You let it go, just like you did Mommy." The red headed boy smiled. Clary tensed, refusing to look at Sebastian as she clutched her daughter. "Can I keep it for a few more days, Daddy?" Liam asked Sebastian. She had assumed he was contemplating letting Liam keep his temporary pet.
"I don't see why not, as long as it's a few days Liam." Sebastian replied calmly to his son, who had revealed something much more meaningful than he had interpreted. Sebastian clapped his palms against his jean-covered thighs, standing up and ruffling his son's hair. "Well, it's getting late, you guys sleeping over with Mommy, or Daddy?" He asked to the two.
"Why can't you two just sleep with us together?" Liam asked. Clary bit the pink skin of her lip, drawing in pain to distract her.
"Liam!" Ava gasped. "Daddy says we're not sposed to talk about it!" She hit her brother's side, him giving out a huff of air before collecting his small toys and walking over to the motel in which Sebastian was situated in.
"Guess they're sleeping with Daddy." Sebastian said to himself. "Sorry." He muttered to Clary, Ava walking over to him where he picked her up and then dashed over to his room to somehow apologize to his son. Clary's eyes flitted over to Jace, who looked very uncomfortable in his position.
"Are you okay?" She whispered, laying her hand over his and giving him a warming squeeze. He smiled sadly at her before nodding his head. She looked to Theo, who was snoring against the crook of his father's neck.
"We should probably go, it's getting dark." Jace said while combing Theo's golden locks with his fingers.
"Yeah, okay." Clary agreed.
They were laying together in bed, both quiet as they explored each other with the tips of their fingers. Jace's eyes held amazement as he skimmed over Clary's face. She took his hand in hers, kissing each of his scarred knuckles
"Do you think that if I hadn't come back, that you'd eventually end up with Sebastian?" Jace blurted. Clary paused, listening to him silently curse himself. The movement of his lips excited her, but she pushed the feelings down, taking his hand and guiding it over her heart.
"You feel that?" She asked him. Jace gulped, nodding his head, not taking his eyes off of the emerald green of her own. "It's yours, not Sebastian's." She promised him. Jace smiled in flattery, then, realizing that their son was asleep, and both of them in a warm bed, he met her mouth furiously with hers.
She gasped against him, relishing in the warmth his body generated for her. His hands roamed south, playing with the lace at the bottom of her silk nightgown. An involuntary moan left her mouth and reached his as he explored her. Clary's fingers dug into his hair, wondering if it hurt him to have her grip so roughly in passion. Jace's mouth kissed her shoulder, nudging the strap of her nightgown until it curved loosely at the top of her arm.
He stopped, but only to straddle her hips. She couldn't believe just how lost in the moment she could get with him. Jace leaned down, breathing against her neck, her shoulder, her fingers. It wasn't until his mouth grazed her ear that he was whispering something to her, well, more to her body.
"Mine." He breathed against her stomach.
