Some philosophers say that when the dead die, they are never truly gone. Some think that souls are born and reborn in the new generation that takes our places in the world. Some are obvious, and take on the appearance of what they had once been, and in others it is hard to spot. Only by looking deeper into the soul, can we see those echoes of what a person might have been, and still are.

Ch. 34 To (Seath) for all eternity
"Is the master alright?" the scorpion asked as looked down at Black*Star, who was unconscious. Tsubaki at that moment, did not know whether it was okay or not to answer the question. This...creature, just came out of nowhere and saved them from getting torn to bits. Before Tsubaki would answer, she needed to know what this thing was, and why it had saved her and her meister.
Tsubaki then asked the scorpion man, in a tone that betrayed her courage, "F-first, what are you, and w-why did y-you save us." The scorpion man just gazed down at her with cold lifeless eyes through his helmet. Tsubaki couldn't help but compare the creatures eyes with her missing teachers eyes, they both held a feeling of emptiness, and infinite suffering.
The creature then answered, and said in a motionless tone, "I am Tark, and I am here to defend and serve my master. He is the boy you now hold in your arms, and it seems I have come at the right moment. Any later, the two of you would have died, you are lucky that I tracked him down." "Tracked him down?" Tsubaki said in confusion, "Why...why did you track him down? Why is he your master? What did Black*Star do?"
Before Tark could answer Tsubaki's question, an ear shattering roar sounded off right behind him. Both Tark and Tsubaki covered their ears, while the giant maneater let out its ferocious roar. When it stopped, the demon began to crawl towards the three, despite losing it's lower half. The thing simply would not die, it even started to flap it's wings, and hover just a few inches off the ground.
As Tark prepared to engage the stubborn beast, more roars began to sound in the distance. The sounds of a thousand wing beats caused Tark to back away from the demon in realization, as he thought, 'It wasn't roaring to intimidate us, it was roaring to call for help.' Tark then looked out the window and saw hundreds of dark creatures, with wings and red eyes, swarm the tower they were now in.
Tark then looked to Tsubaki, and told her, "Quickly, grab the master, and get on my back, I can get us away from here." Tsubaki just looked at Tark in confusion, until he said in a more authoritative tone, "Get up, now." Tsubaki then snapped into action, and hoisted Black*Star on the back of the man scorpion's body. She went o the rear end, and wrapped her arms around the man scorpion's torso, to keep both her and Black*Star, who was in the center of the man scorpion's lower half, from falling off.
As soon as both children were on, Tark rushed forward and jumped out the window as Tsubaki stared wide eyed in fear. Before she could scream, Tark had used his lower half's legs to cling on to the railing of the Eiffel tower, and started to make his way down like a spider to it's web. When the three had made it half way down the tower, Tsubaki heard disturbing sounds, which caused her to look back.
When she did, she saw that the entire top of the tower was being swarmed. The creatures then started eating the railings and support, making the top of the tower wobble side to side, until the railing gave in, and the top was sent falling down. Tsubaki then shouted, "THE TOWER LOOK OUT." Tark heeded her warning, and quickly climbed to the other side to avoid the falling wreck.
This caused Tark to stumble as he nearly lost his footing, but he quickly recovered, and tried to climb down even quicker. He could hear the wing beats of the demons closing in on them, meaning that they were now being chased. Tark wasted no time, he made his way down the tower to at least house level, but the demons had caught up with them, and were trying to swipe at them.
Tark seeing no other option, jumped off the tower, on to one of the houses near by, and broke through the ceiling. This action had broken two of his legs, but it didn't matter, he still had six more he could run with. The family, who's house they had crashed into were now screaming, alerting the demons that their prey was still alive. The family quickly made their way out of the house, while the demons started to swarm around the hole of the ceiling.
Tark then rushed towards the windows, and smashed through the walls, while Tsubaki was holding on tightly to Black*Star as they fell to the ground. As soon as he hit the ground, Tark started to run as fast as he could, causing the demons to give chase to their prey. Being that these monsters could fly, they had no trouble catching up to Tark, who just kept running as he swatted away the demons that would try to grab him with his claws and pincer.
Eventually the demons ran Tark down, and blocked any route of escape. Tark seeing no other way out of the situation, stood his ground as he readied himself for the fight. When the first demon flew at him, Tark stabbed the creature through the face with his stinger. Two other demons then flew at him, and the crossbreed swatted them back by swinging his pincer around.
Then five more demons flew to the crossbreeds front, while four tried to strike at his back. Tark sidestepped their lunges, and would swing his claws and pincer, to either bat the creatures away, or cut them in half. Tark would even jump into the air, and fall back to the ground hard as he grabbed three or four demons in midair with his insect legs, and crush them under his weight.
Eventually the demons wised up, and they all tried attacking Tark at once. Before they could reach him, Tark had told Tsubaki, "Hold on tight." and dived into the ground. This though did not stop the demons pursuit, they just followed their prey into the hole, and followed the path Tark had created. What the creatures didn't know, was that Tark had made many narrow passage ways, which he knew he would have the creatures running around in circles.
It didn't take long for the demons to realize they had been tricked. They had finally seen their mistake when they realized they kept bumping into each other, and had completely lost sight of their prey. What was even worse, they were now lost, and realized they had completely lost their prey.
In Chicago depths
John and Henry were now returning to the main chambers of their lady. They had spent all day and yesterday trying to find something that could be of some use to them, but had no such luck. The humans of this era never had nothing useful like a sword or even armor, no,all that would come down here was pieces of food, and small meaningless items all covered in waist.
The two only looked at each other, and sighed deeply, not even bothering to say anything. Both already knew what the other would say, and it would always be about how unfair things were now, and how they wished they could lead the assault on Death. They weren't the only one's either, many other undead wanted to see Death's head on a pike for what he had done to all of them.
He had used the power he had obtained to destroy all the bonfires, and trapped them in limbo. He destroyed all sources of magic, and condemned both the undead and magic users like mages to death. He even went as far to destroy those who never wanted to be cursed in the first place, and all in the hope of trying to fight back the inevitable.
Who ever the people in charge were, the undead didn't care, they just wanted to get their revenge. They wanted to make Death suffer as they had, because he had no right to do what he did. John and Henry thought this way, and they were sure that the others would agree, so why weren't they doing anything? They could march up to Death right now, and put him down like the mad dog he is, it's what that monster deserves.
By the time John and Henry had made their way to the settlement, they noticed two strange things. One was that it was too quiet, usually the other undead would be communicating or traveling around in this stink hole they call a home. The second thing was that there were only two undead outside of their settlement, and they did not seem friendly.
"John," Henry spoke up, "Do you see that?" John nodded his head, and replied asking, "You think they went hollow?" Henry could only shrug at his friend, it was hard to tell from where they were standing. Carefully the two started to walk closer to the undead, until they saw something out of their nightmares. The two undead before them had spiders attached to their backs, and were now using the corpses as puppets.
Their pincers had lodged deep into their backs, while one was in the head, where the nervous center of the brain was. Henry and John then stepped quickly to the side when they saw a woman black come out of the path that lead to their lair. "That's her." Henry whispered, with fear clear in his voice. John could only tremble, he knew who this person was, and he knew that something had happened to their lady.
The woman in black didn't pay them any mind when she walked past them, but the spiders that stuck themselves on the backs of corpses did. John just stood where he was in fear, while Henry took this moment to see what this woman they feared looked like. It came as a shock when he saw that this witch, the one they were all supposed to fear, was a beautiful goddess that had black hair in a bun, gigantic bosoms, pale skin, strange purple eyes, and wore a dress that resembled that of a black widow.
Then without warning, Henry was thrown to the ground by one of the spiders as it climbed on top of him, and roared in his face. To say Henry had just been scared was an understatement, nothing could even express the terror he now felt. All he knew, was that if he got out of this, he would never look at those eight legged creatures the same way again. "That's enough." the witch said, making the overgrown arachnid riding on human flesh let go of Henry.
It just eyed Henry with its dead eyes one last time, before it roared at him again, and went back to the witch's side. John then immediately helped his friend up, and felt that he was now shaking from terror. "Henry," John shook, "Henry the fair lady." When he heard that, Henry snapped his head up, remembering what those creatures may have come here for.
Without a moment's hesitation, both undead were now sprinting as fast as they could, back to their lair. When they got there, a great feeling of despair had washed over them, the place was now overrun with those giant eight legged freaks of nature. Some were riding on corpses, while most of the others still crawled on their eight legs.
Most of the other undead coward in front of these creatures, and went into hiding. Only a few undead remained in the settlement, and had barricaded themselves within tiny shacks they had made from huge pieces of garbage that had fallen into the lair. For John and Henry, it was a nightmare, what they feared would happen had come true, someone had told that witch about what their lady had done.
Though it didn't matter who the traitor was now, what mattered now was finding out if their lady was still in one piece. Both undead then rushed toward the entrance of their lady's chambers, and were greeted with the sight of a very small man, sitting on their ladies throne. This person was an old man, with light skin, red eyes, sharp teeth, and had a long insect like nose. He wore a small suit, that matched his small stature, and wore a long black hat.
"What is it that you two want?" the dwarf rudely said, "As I told you all before, I am in charge now, what did you not understand?" John and Henry just stared at each other in complete loss for words. What was this little man talking about, who was he, what had he done to their lady, where was she? John, gathering his courage, then asked the dwarf this very question, which caused him snicker at the two.
He then answered the questions, and said, "I am Mosquito, and my lady has assigned me the task that your feeble-minded leader was too weak to even do. As for where she is, well you needn't worry about her, she is our lady's sister after all. She has been punished, but she is alive, and is making up for her decision to let those two students of the DWMA go."
This caused both John and Henry to twitch, as Henry thought, 'Was our lady hurt, is she suffering, what have they done to her?' John not liking any of this one bit, spoke up against Mosquito, and said in a hardened tone, "Listen you little wretch, if you've hurt our lady, then by the old gods and new ones, I will make you, and your lady suffer."
Mosquito only smiled in contempt, and replied, "Is that suppose to scare me? You do realize that I could erase your very existence, since you are only a manifestation of the abyss." John and Henry's eyes only widened, what was this old man even talking about? "Oh come now," Mosquito mocked, "Do you really think we had all the time and resources to restore all your souls to you? We had trouble just trying to find the powerful soul of one undead, and now even he's gone. All you undead are parts of the abyss that came from another world. All of you had been allowed by your lady to gain consciousness in a dead body that was never yours to begin with. All your souls have either been reincarnated within a new being, or have vanished from existence. So what I am telling you is, none of you are what you think you are, you're just a reflection gone mad."
"T-that's not true." Henry said in a low voice. No, it couldn't be true, he knew who he was, and he was sure he wasn't a piece of some dark void. John just glared at Mosquito, as he said, "If you do not stop talking nonsense, and tell us where our lady is, I will cut you to pieces, and savor every scream." Mosquito only glared back at John, until he snapped his fingers, causing one of the giant spiders to lunge at John as it sank it's fangs into his shoulder.
John screamed as the pincers dug deep into his rotten flesh, he felt he was about to lose conciousness. Before he could, Mosquito called off the giant spider, and started to walk toward John, while Henry stood in place, frozen in fear. Once Mosquito stood over John, he looked to Henry, and told him, "Let this be a warning to all of you." Mosquito then looked down at John, and his insect like nose shot out into the undead's face.
Henry watched in complete terror as his friend's very essence was sucked out through the dwarf's nose. Mosquito continued to do this, until nothing, not even a body was left. All that remained of John was his tattered clothes, and his club. Mosquito then looked up to Henry, and asked the undead, "Have I made myself clear?"
Henry just shook his head as tears ran down his face, he could not believe what had happened. First their lady was being punished and now he'd lost his best friend, as if being cursed never to die wasn't cruel enough. Henry then turned, and ran out of the dwarf's chamber, not even looking back at what remained of his dear friend.
In Paris, France
Pain, that was all Black*Star could think of now, his entire body, especially his chest hurt, it had been the place the demon had clawed at him. He still couldn't believe he let those things do that to him. He was supposed to surpass god, and here he was laying on the ground, when he should be fighting those monsters.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he would show those demons the error of their ways. Though he had to wonder if it would happen anytime soon, he had been on the floor too long. Black*Star was sure if he didn't get up soon, those things would tear him apart, but nothing was happening, it made him wonder if those two were even paying attention to him anymore.
The thought caused Black*Star's eyes to snap open, as he shouted, "HEY YOU STUPID JERKS, DON'T YOU TURN YOUR BACKS ON ME." What Black*Star had saw instead was Tsubaki talking to a half man, half scorpion creature. This had caused him to freeze out the strangeness of the moment, until he regained his composure, and said, "So some freak has decided to challenge the great Black*Star, you wouldn't be the first to underestimate a star like me."
The man scorpion only looked at Black*Star puzzled, until he walked up to him, and said, "I am Tark, and I am here to serve my lord." He then bowed to Black*Star, who just looked at him in complete surprise. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait...who are you?" Black*Star asked, "Cause I've never seen you in my life." Tark just nodded, and said, "That is true, you have never known me, not in this life."
"What's that suppose to mean?" Black*Star asked, not liking being in the dark about things he feels he should know. Tark answered, and said, "You first met me in another life, for you were the one who created me." Black*Star just cocked an eyebrow, and replied, "I'm sorry, no offense, but I wouldn't create something like "you", not even in a past life-like you say I have."
"It's true," Tsubaki said, "If you didn't have the soul of his master, we wouldn't be here now." 'Wouldn't be here,' Black*Star thought, 'What does she...' then the memory hit Black*Star like a ton of bricks. Those demons had managed to actually defeat him, which meant...they had been saved again. Black*Star couldn't believe it, he had failed again, and he was so sure he could defeat a simple demon.
He then turned back to Tark, and said, "Thanks I guess, but you didn't have to do that." Tark shook his head, and said, "It is my purpose and duty to protect my master." "I'm not your master," Black*Star stated, "You have the wrong guy." "No, I do not," Tark insisted, "Your soul has the same semblance my master had, therefore his soul lives on in you. If it had not, I would not have been able to track you down, and save you."
"Who was your master, and why do you want to save him?" Black*Star asked, wanting to know what kind of person this "Thing" was referring to. Tark answered, and said, "My master was a scaleless dragon named Seath, and his soul was reborn inside you." 'A DRAGON,' Black*Star thought, thinking that this crossbreed was crazy.
Black*Star, trying not to seem intimidated or fazed, told Tark, "Listen, I see how you could mistake a star like me with a giant fire-breathing monster, but just cause I'm that strong, doesn't mean I am one. Sooo...you know, thanks for your help, Tsubaki and I will be leaving now." Black*Star then looked to Tsubaki, and she nodded in understanding.
As the two began to walk out, Black*Star noticed that Tark was following close behind them. This caused Black*Star to turn around, and ask in an annoyed tone, "What's your problem, huh, why are you following us?" Tark immediately answered, and said, "Because you are my master, whether you like it or not. I have roamed this world without purpose for longer then you will ever know, and I believe this is my purpose."
Tark continued, "My purpose in this world is to serve my master, or to destroy him if he should ever turn from the light. I am here to aid you in all your endeavors, and with the return of these ancient beasts, it seems you will need all the help you can get." After hearing this, Black*Star knew there was truth to what the crossbreed had said. As much as he didn't want to believe it, he alone couldn't take down these monsters without some kind of help, last night had proven that.
'Maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way.' Black*Star thought, thinking of the advantages to having his own personal minion. He then smiled, and pumped his arm,as he said, "Alright, since you insist, the great Black*Star will take you under his wing, but I only have two rules. One you can't let anyone see you, you know, because most people would cower in fear in front of something they don't understand. And two, when we're in a fight, try to keep up with me, I don't like it when weaklings slow me down."
Tark just nodded in understanding, and said, "As you wish my lord." "Good," Black*Star replied, "Now where are we?" he asked, finally realizing that he had no idea where they were. Tsubaki answered him, and said, "We're in an abandoned factory. Tark brought us here, and hid us from the demons while you were knocked out cold."
Black*Star couldn't help but feel embarrassed when she said that. It meant that those things had defeated him, and he was never the type to lose. Whatever, it just meant he had to train harder, once he did that, he was sure he could defeat those demons and that corpse without breaking a sweat. As long as he lived, he knew he could overcome any challenge, all he had to do was find more ways to better himself.
With this thought in mind, Black*Star started to make his way out of the old building, with Tsubaki and Tark following close behind. While he wasn't looking, Tark sent Tsubaki a knowing look, which she responded to with a nod. She understood what Tark had told her while Black*Star was out cold, she knew what could possibly happen to her meister if he wasn't careful.
The memory of their conversation worried her to what her Meister could become. Tark had told her of his master's past mistakes, and of his master's obsession to become an immortal. She could see the similar traits Tark had described to her in Black*Star, she only hoped that this time around, Black*Star would not succumb to those same mistakes.
Boom chapter done. To those wondering why Black*Star is Seath, well let's see the similarities. Seath betrayed his kind, and sided with Gwyn and the other lords, Black*Star is the son of a demon, and fights his own kind for Lord Death. Seath goes mad because he lacked immortality, and did whatever he could to become a powerful immortal, Black*Star nearly gives into madness as he tries to make himself stronger. Lastly, Black*Star's father's name is White*Star, and Seath was a white scaleless dragon, as well as the last of his kind, where as Black*Star is the last of his clan. Okay, so hate it, love it review.
