Oh dear.
When Reyne woke up however, Khan was still asleep. She gently pressed her mouth to his…and immediately sat up.
"Khan?"
Nothing. It was a minor relief as she took his pulse and listened to his heartbeat.
"Khan?" her voice shook slightly as she took his face between her hands, gently moving his head from side to side before hearing the door open. As she turned to take in the site of the guards with a gurney, complete with restraints, Reyne saw the cup.
There were dregs of tea at the bottom and it kicked in. They had drugged him. He had no idea she was here.
"Ma'am we're going to have to ask you to move"
"Reyne?" Yet although Kirk said her name, it was the quieter one that snagged her attention.
"Oh Christ" one of the guards snapped "Who gave the dose?"
Khan's eyes were open a crack but it was clear Khan was struggling to keep them open, to produce words only to find them slurred.
"Reyne….I…can't…"
"You can't what?" Reyne gently caressed his face, rage and despair boiling all at once, trying to keep her voice calm and steady. "What's the matter baby?" Her voice cracked and she felt a tear, the first of many, fall.
"…move…don't…don't…"
Khan's fingers had barely skimmed Reyne's cheek before she felt a pair of hands on her shoulders.
"Reyne you need to let go" Kirk's voice was urging, apologetic, yet firm. "Please just let them do their job"
"Reyne…I…." Khan's head fell back and his arm down as he succumbed once more, his last thought that Reyne shouldn't be crying, that her smile was her best feature.
"Khan?! Khan!" Reyne had only yanked free for a second before Kirk grabbed her, arms around her, using every ounce of strength to contain her while they started to lift Khan onto the gurney.
"What did you do….WHAT DID YOU DO!?" she yelled.
As Khan's eyes opened again, he found he couldn't move, more from physical restraints than mental ones. He barely had time to take in his surroundings before an anesthesia mask was gently pressed over his nose and mouth.
"Breathe in…Out…" Khan didn't need to breathe but did as he was told by the unfamiliar male voice. "That's good…Don't worry…Count sheep"
Ovis aries…Though he didn't see how counting a species was of import…Maybe Reyne would know…Reyne…Where was she?
His eyes closed again.
