Chapter Thirty-Four

I had a witty comeback but my train of thought was immediately cut short and I'd forgotten what I was going to say as it dawned on me that he'd said something to catch me off guard again. My eyes widened and Hiei's lips turned up into a smirk upon seeing my bewildered expression.

"What did you just say?" I breathed, unsure if I'd heard him correctly. In all of the majority of a century that I'd spent with him, Hiei had never once told me that he loved me despite us both knowing it to be true.

"I love you, Kimiko."

Tears welled on my lower lids as the pure elated joy bubbled up in my chest and spread like a creeping fire, making my whole body feel light as air.

"Again," I demanded, my voice cracking slightly and he smiled.

"I love you."

The tears fell and I closed my eyes, crashing my lips to his, my hands holding both of his cheeks while his arms wrapped tighter around my waist and he kissed back.

"Again," I blubbered through the tears, my lips still locked with his.

"I love you… I love you, Kimiko… I love you so much."

Each statement was said between passionate kisses that brought even more tears to my eyes until I was clutching to him and bawling pitifully, my immense elation too much for me to handle. I'd waited so long to hear him say those three simple little words and finally hearing them had released a flood of emotions unlike anything I'd ever felt before.
