Link was saddened and his gaze turned towards the ocarina in his hands, before he breathed in and began to explain his story. "As you said, I'm Hylian but this is only partly true. My...Papa was Hylian, and my mother, Ilia, is human and we lived in the Ordona Province. My papa was a great man, hero, and father. He even served the Hyrulean Royal Family as their champion, and ever since I could remember I wanted to be a great hero just like him," he began, and the scene of the two boys talking, to a five-year-old Link was holding a green, pointed hat and the same man from his dream searching for something. The man looked down and took that hat from his son, while he chuckled and placing it on his head.

"One day my Papa, was called by his good friend, the Princess and he promised to take my with him to see the castle, and while we rode I couldn't help but ask him more than a hundred different questions about his adventure to save Hyrule from the King of Thieves and the Usurper King, when we finally came upon the grand palace that made me feel so small, the Princess was standing at the edge of the stairs, and then quickly noticing me and Papa she walked over to us. I forget what she was talking about, but it was something about champions of the two kingdoms, but I couldn't find out anymore because she quickly told me about her niece, Zelda, that often played in the courtyard and asked if I would like to play with her and I walked over to the garden where the younger Princess was playing and she's the prettiest girl I ever met."

"Sounds like you have a crush," Mario mumbled and got a glare from Link. "Sorry. Please continue."

"I'm just stating the facts. She had eyes like the forest of Faron Woods, her hair was as smooth as a spring, her hair was as brown as the shells of Deku Nuts, and her voice was so soft and gentle that she could've been mistaken for a Nimbi," Link said, his beastly eyes ablaze with….happiness?

"Right," Mario said, rolling his eyes. "You don't have a crush on her at all." Link sighed, and Mario said, "Sorry. Please, continue."'

Link nodded, and said, "Princess Zelda pulled me to a window and we could see a young woman with bleach white hair and tannish skin. She explained to me what her aunt couldn't. She said that basically my Papa, without any potions or fairies, will face the attacker's champion which will decide what will happen to Hyrule. She then told me that if my Papa fails, the woman with white hair-"

"It's Queen Cia. Isn't it?" Mario said, remembering reading the Nintendra News and seeing a picture of a woman with white hair, and Link nodded.

"She told me that if my Papa fails, that Cia will marry her father, the King, because the old queen died. Somehow. The hour of the contest came, and my father was being faced against a dragon warrior named Volga that was said to be the descendant of the Goron's greatest enemy, Volvagia, and possessed some sort of aura around him. I couldn't get a good read on him, but I knew something was wrong as he began to fight my father. My Papa fought bravely against the monster that haunts my dreams, as his blade clashed with it's, but even from my seat I could tell he was losing, and my heart beat hard against my chest as my Papa tried just to stop him from breathing fire, but it seemed like some horrible, dark magic was protecting it. Suddenly, I heard the clanking, and my Papa stood still for a second and that's all it took for the monster to drive his blade into my father's stomach. My father collapsed onto the arena's floor as his fresh blood fell, and I ran from my seat, screaming. Two guards tried to restrain me. but I broke their grasp and ran to my father, calling for him to wake up. He looked up at me, but just barely, as he tried to hold back the blood with his hand and with the last bit of strength he took his bloody hand and poured his red blood onto my hand, before to doctors took him away. I had looked down to see his sword still lying on the ground, and in moment of anger grabbed it and called for the murderer to face me. He laughed harshly at me and called me, 'The Savage Son of a Beast.' I took great offense at this and I guess I pretty much did become a savage. My body began to quiver, my heart rapidly beat against my chest, and all I could see is...red. I slashed my sword, but he gained the upper hand, and kicked me to the floor with its cold, metal foot. I was readying myself to be finished off, but in the end it just said, 'Listen kid. Don't pick fights you can't when you know you can't win,' and as reminder he gave me these." Link pulled down his cloak's collar to reveal to throbbing, white scars that bulged out of his skin that caused Mario to shake and everyone in Dinohatten to gasp.

"I'm sorry," Mario said, looking away from Link's scars.

"It's not your doing," Link replied, letting go of his collar and it covered his scars. "Mother says that I shouldn't let him get to me, and smile, but I can't." He sighed, sadly and continued on with his story. "Papa was taken to the Royal Physician to be healed, and his nurse tended to my scars. Zelda tried to comfort me, but I felt to far gone to even listen, but I couldn't help but cry for the thought of losing my Papa, as my right hand began to burn. The next day, I felt hand on my shoulder and I foolishly thought it was Papa, but when I looked behind me it was the Princess, her face scarred with sadness. She told me Papa's wounds caused a fever that even a fairy couldn't healed, and he…...he…..was gone," Link choked, as he seemed to grow an even deeper frown.

Mario sighed, and Link continued, "I saw Zelda near the entrance, and she tried to comfort me, but I pushed her away and I still regret doing that. I ran to my horse Epona and took off for Hyrule Field. I found a tree on a hill and just cried and decided to never talk….until now."

"I can relate," Mario said, looking at his sleeping brother. "When I was two years old, and Luigi was only a few months, my parents-my real parents- died. Well, after some really strange events the Jumpmans adopted me and my brother, and they love us like their own, and we love them. But, I still remember my Pop's last words which were to protect my brother, and I will always do that."

Link went silent for a moment, and couldn't help but think how hard that must've been. "I. I didn't know."

Mario wiped the glum expression and laughed half-heartedly, "How would you know? I never mentioned it before." Mario looked out the window to see the sun beginning to rise. "Well, Link. Sorry to hear about your troubles, but my brotherly advice is that right now you're surviving in the past not living for the future." With that he walked over to his brother and tried to shake him awake.

"Here let me help," Link said, then took out his ocarina and played a cheery song and Luigi groaned slightly, and then sat up.

"What magic song did you just play?" Luigi asked, rubbing his eyes as his brother made sure that the package was okay.

"I heard it in a dream, and it was called the Sonata of Awakening," Link answered, as Navi woke up.

"I don't remember hearing her ancestor play that song while we were stopping Ganondorf," Navi replied, and Link just shrugged. After they had packed everything away they headed for the cannon that would take them to Encancia.

Author's Note: Before, people to come to my door with a pitchfork in hand for making TP Link marry his childhood crush, Ilia and not the Zelda of that era, its just I felt more of connection between them than with Zelda. But, don't worry his son, or this Link will indeed have Zelda as his love interest. So, don't kill me. But, for now what do you think of the story so far? If you have comment on what you'd like to see in a future story, I'll try to read as many as I can.
