Liesel stood at the edge of the falls idly twitching her thumbs as she wanted for Damon to arrive, the tomb was being open tonight much to her surprise as mere hours after she had gotten Shelia Bennett to agree to open and Damon wanted to meet beforehand. But of course Damon being who he was and have a taste for making people wait on him was funning ten minutes late, if this was anyone else Liesel would have been annoyed that they were running late and hadn't bothered to get in contact with her. However this was Damon she was dealing with and in the few months that she had been acquainted with him, Liesel knew that this vampire ran on his own time. Liesel was nervous because everything was moving so quickly and yet she was excited, she was excited for Damon because after all this waiting he was finally getting what he wanted after all this which was Katherine. Liesel was also excited to see what was possibly the longest love story ever, finally wrap up right in front of her eyes and her two best friends would get their happy endings. Damon would have Katherine and Stefan would have Elena and everyone would be happy. Although there was that whole thing of Elena practically being Katherine's clone and having Damon dating one of them and Stefan the other was pretty weird but Liesel was willing to overlook it for her friends happiness. However once Damon got Katherine out of the tomb, he would have to leave with her and Liesel wasn't sure how she felt about it. Sure Damon would be with Katherine and be happy but then she'd be losing one of her best friends for god knows how long. The whole thing was very bittersweet.
"Well it's about bloody time you turned up, you know not all of us are immortal! Some of us i.e. me still age, so you might want to take that into consideration when you decided to make everyone wait for your arrival. I thought that you would be on time for once considering how much of a big night this is for you. I assumed you would be bouncing around like a hyperactive child as you wait to be reunited with your lady love." Liesel stated as she saw Damon walk over to her in a rather confident manner with a cocky smirk plastered all over his face, no doubt he was pleased about the recent development.
"If it isn't Little Caffrey my favourite person in the entire world! I hear you've be all getting into all sorts of trouble all for me. Blackmailing witches on my behalf? I don't think I have ever been more proud of you in my life. It also reminds of how terrifying you can be." Damon stated with a grin as he put his arm over Liesel's shoulder and began to led her away from the meeting point and further into the woods as they were going to cut through the falls to get to old Fell's church.
"Stefan's not too happy with me and neither are the witches, I'm used to pissing people off but not two witches and a vampire. I may have just signed my death warrant by agreeing to help you." Liesel couldn't help but point out.
"Take my advice on this Caffrey, witches always have a broom up their ass about something and Stefan will be when happy when I leave town, beside Little One trust me when I say that my brother being mad at you is all a front. Whilst Stefan may be annoyed at these turn of events, there is no way that Stefan would ever be mad with you. It's impossible to be." Damon explained providing personal insight to his elusive younger brother, Liesel found it nice to hear Damon speaking about Stefan without some insult following.
"You speaking from experience?"
"Yes you silly girl! Not only are you the scariest person I've ever met, you're also the most interesting and there is something about you and no matter what I just can't stay mad with you. It's dreadfully frustrating." Damon idly commented and Liesel beamed, she didn't take compliments that well except from when they came from Damon as it was because generally whenever he paid her a compliment it was like he was gritting his teeth to say something nice about her. Liesel was going to miss this; she was going to miss him.
"Oh god, I forgot about the Duke party…" Liesel murmured as her and Damon came across the party that Matt had invited her to earlier on during the day. This was a bit of a problem as old Fell's church wasn't too far away and the last thing they all needed was drunk teenagers stumbling across a tomb filled with hungry vampires who hadn't fed in over a hundred and forty-five years. "Dear lord I hope these idiots stay clear of the church…"
"Your hope, not mine." Damon quipped just as Liesel caught sight of Matt who apparently by the wave he sent her way, saw her too and made his way over. Liesel looked uneasily at Damon and she prayed to god that he didn't say anything stupid. But then again this was Damon and being unpredictable was one of the things that he did best. Liesel just hoped that for one brief moment that Damon would for a brief second behave himself and make this encounter less painful then it could possibly be.
"Liesel, hey you made it!" Matt called out and Liesel forced herself to smile.
"We don't have time for this."
"Shut up he wasn't talking to you and besides you've waited a hundred and forty five years for this day, it won't kill you to wait another ten minutes since I blackmailed two witches to open the tomb for you." Liesel replied through gritted teeth just as Matt arrived. "Hey Donovan…"
"How's the head?" Matt questioned.
"Ah! It's holding up all thanks to you, so thanks for that again as it could have been a lot worse." Liesel quietly replied ignoring the look that Damon was currently giving her.
"We haven't met. I'm Matt… " Matt began being the polite one and making introductions as Liesel had been making a point as to avoid this, Matt held out his hand and Damon just looked at it in disgust. Liesel couldn't help but grimace as this wouldn't end well.
"Matt, there's a reason we haven't met." Damon retorted and Liesel wanted to strangle him because as much as Damon had been trying to push Matt Donovan on to her claiming she needed a boyfriend to lighten up her up, for some reason he was just being an ass to the guy he wanted her to shack up with her. It made no sense in the slightest.
"Do you have to be a complete and utter asshole all the time? Would it kill you to use some manners for once in your life. It can't be that hard even for you!" Liesel questioned.
"Coming from the ice queen herself?" Damon retorted and Liesel was going to make a snappy comeback and tell Matt to ignore Damon until she realized there was nothing she could really see as no matter what, Damon had killed Vicki. Well he killed her in one way, snapped her neck and caused her to transition into a vampire. Stefan may have been the one to stake Vicki and kill her for good but Damon was responsible, he had killed Matt's big sister. Damon was the villain here.
"Look Matt, we're sort of in the middle of something so we've got to run but I'll see you around sometime, I'm really sorry for everything." Liesel said forcing an apologetic smile at Matt before dragging Damon away and further into the woods. Not saying a word to Damon until she was sure that they were out of earshot from anybody. "I understand that you're a little impatient but that does not excuse your rudeness! It wouldn't kill you to show a little humanity towards Matt given that it is your fault that Vicki is dead and her body is decomposing god knows where Damon."
"You're not even dating this guy and already your turning soft on him! I thought you hated the guy." Damon retorted.
"I am not soft!"
"Whatever." Damon replied with a roll on his eyes before reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out a square shaped velvet box and placing it in Liesel's hands much to her surprise. "Here. This is for you, don't ever say I don't repay my debts Little Caffrey…"
"What's this?" Liesel couldn't help but question.
"Open it." Damon said in a rather uncomfortable manner and slowly Liesel opened the box and she was surprised to see that inside the box were earrings. Diamond earrings to be in fact, fancy earrings that had a cluster of diamonds at the top followed by a pear shaped diamonds handing from them which was surrounded by even more diamonds. They were beautiful, more than that they were stunning. Liesel she often complained about getting dragged into Damon's messes but she never expected and payment of the sort, it was just her general grumpy self.
"Damon I cannot take these and I don't even want to know where the hell you got these from." Liesel said as these looked very expensive.
"They belonged to my mother." Damon announced much to Liesel's shock, Damon and Stefan's mother had come up once and that was only because Liesel was using her to get Damon to not kill her after the whole tomb incident. But from what Liesel had seen when she used her abilities to look at Damon's past, Mrs. Salvatore had a been a very beautiful and kind woman who had doted on her children and they loved her in return, especially Damon. "When my mother died, my father practically got rid of every single trace of her from the house. He just couldn't have any part of her in the house to remind him of what we had lost, but I did save some things. I couldn't let him get rid of everything so I kept a few things so I could have something to remember her."
"You should really give this to Katherine." Liesel murmured.
"I'm sure she'd appreciate it but if I gave these to Katherine, my mother would turn in her grave. I think that once you get past the ten layers of sarcasm along with the guilt you seem to always carry and the enormous chip on your shoulder, my mother would have liked you very much and would have wanted you to have these. They deserve to be worn again by someone worthy of their beauty. I want you to have these Caffrey, there is nobody else I think deserve these more than you. If Stefan and I had a little sister, I imagine she would have been just like you in some ways." Damon quipped and Liesel had to swallow a lump in her throat. She was going to this miss these moments, where Damon would be a real ass one minute and then take her completely by surprise the next.
"I will treasure these always… Whatever happens next, know that I lo–" Liesel began but soon enough she found the words stuck in her throat. She was finding it so hard to say what she really felt but Liesel knew that she had to tell Damon as after this she wasn't sure when she was going to see him again. Sure she may see him again in a few months if this premonition she had about the two of them in a fire came to pass. But the future could change. So she would try and again. "Whatever happens next Damon with where you and Katherine go, know that you are my friend and despite everything I love you."
"God you are turning soft on me Caffrey!"
"Do you know how hard it is for me to say something like that to you? I don't toss things like that out often." Liesel retorted as she shoved Damon, she had practically poured her heart out to him. Damon was the first person outside of her family who she had told that she loved them. It was a big deal. Sure Liesel loved Stefan, she knew that it would happen when she got the premonition after Lexi had died which somehow was just over three weeks ago. It had seemed longer. But with Damon it was different, in that short amount of time she had come to care for a man who was as flawed and damaged as her but as monstrous as he could be, had the ability to see the self-destruction within Liesel that was causing her to see only people's death and get her to fix it. He didn't fix her, Damon had got Liesel to fix herself and that meant a lot to Liesel that Damon didn't see her as being broken.
"Urghh. I just gave you antique diamond earrings that are older than me and you want more from me? If I wasn't dead already then you would send me to an early grave but whatever Caffrey, I like you too so can we get a move on already?" Damon demanded, clearly wanting to move on from this all.
"Sure." Liesel quipped, rather enjoying seeing Damon acting so uncomfortable despite the fact that she could see a small smirk in the corner of his mouth. Despite what he hadn't said, Liesel knew that he loved her. Not in the Katherine way which was fine with Liesel. They were the two people who needed major personality adjustments who loved each other platonically.
"You know your first born son had better be named after me, I gave you diamonds so the least you can do is name your kid Damon…"
