A/N: The wedding chapter is finally here. I used the same ceremony as in COL, except for their own vows.
And in case someone wants to read about the bachelorette party I skipped, I wrote it for StrawberrySab and I'm willing to share it.
Chapter Thirty-Six
"I'm sorry, I've been…Oh my god," Katherine stopped mid sentence as she saw Diane standing in the middle of the room, wearing the wedding dress she's found her months ago. The bottom of the silk ivory dress touched the ground around Diane, while the light sleeveless fabric hugged her body tight, showing her perfect figure.
"You look at me as if you saw me in this dress for the first time," Diane said playfully, enjoying Katherine's reaction and counting the minutes until her future husband would spot her like that.
"Have you looked into that mirror? You look gorgeous, your hair, your make up, everything."
"It's all a testament to you. Have I thanked you for arranging everything?"
"I guess you have, but you're getting a bill soon anyway," Katherine joked, but then she stepped closer to Diane and took her hands, "I'm just so happy this day has finally come. You're without doubt the most beautiful bride I have ever seen and I'm proud to call you my best friend of twenty years."
"You don't intend to make me cry, do you?" Diane smiled, seeing how Katherine's eyes started to get wet.
"I'm sorry," she tried to hold back the tears and hugged Diane, "I wish you all the happiness in this world and just know that you can always count on me."
"Thank you. You can always count on me too," Diane returned the promise.
They heard a knock on the door and Will's voice.
"May I come in?"
"Yes," Diane replied, kind of prepared for his reaction to seeing her after Katherine's and he didn't disappoint as his eyes visibly widened as he spotted her.
"Wow, you look gorgeous. Are you sure you want to walk out there looking like this? Kurt might get a heart attack."
"He'd better survive the ceremony," Diane chuckled.
"Everyone will envy me walking down the aisle with you on my arms."
"Just make sure your girlfriend doesn't get jealous," Katherine teased.
"Shall we?" Will offered his arm.
"Is it time already?"
"Yes, everyone's ready outside."
"Then let's go," Diane took a deep breath, reached for her bouquet and linked arms with Will.
As the traditional music started to play Katherine walked out the back door and Diane and Will soon followed her. As soon as Diane found Kurt's eyes she started smiling and she didn't blame him for looking her up and down a few times as if he didn't believe his eyes. She found it really cute and couldn't wait to finally arrive on his side.
When she did, he took her hands in his and leaned to her ear.
"You were right, I love the dress, you look beautiful," he whispered and placed a small kiss on her cheek before he moved away.
"Are you ready?" their officiant asked looking at one after the other.
"We are," Diane smiled and from then on her eyes didn't leave Kurt's
"We are gathered together here in the presence of these witnesses to join this man and this woman in matrimony, which is an honorable estate, and is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently and discreetly. If anyone can show just cause why this man and this woman may not lawfully be joined together, let them speak now or hereafter remain silent."
After a few seconds of silence he continued.
"Kurt, will you have this woman to be your wife; to live together with her in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?"
"I will," Kurt vowed.
"Diane, will you have this man to be your husband; to live together with him in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?"
"I will," Diane vowed.
"Kurt, take Diane by the hand and repeat after me."
"I, Kurt McVeigh, take thee Diane Lockhart, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death do us part."
"Diane, repeat after me."
"I, Diane Lockhart, take thee Kurt McVeigh, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part."
"I understand you've written your own vows, that you want to share with everyone."
"Yes," Kurt nodded in the direction of their officiant then turned back to Diane, "Diane, I know it was hard for you to change your mind about marriage, I'm glad you did it for me, for us. I'll make sure you never regret this decision. I'm going to be your loving husband and you can count on me until death do us part."
Hearing it in his own words brought tears to Diane's eyes, but she tried to fight them, so she could say what she wanted to him as well.
"Kurt, I appreciate that you love me enough to try marriage again with me, even though it didn't work out for you the first time. But you have to be the one helping me do it right, like you have so far. You've changed my life completely in the last year and I love you for it. I promise to stay worthy of your love until death do us part."
Diane could see it in his eyes that her vow touched his heart and he held her hands even tighter as their officiant continued with the ceremony.
"The rings shall forevermore be a symbol of the love that you have declared and the vows that you have exchanged."
Kurt took the golden band from the box in his best friend's hand and placed it on Diane's left hand ring finger.
"With this ring I thee wed, and pledge my faith."
"With this ring I thee wed, and pledge my faith," Diane slipped the ring on his finger and they took each other's hands again.
"Now, by the authority vested in me by the State of Illinois, I pronounce you to be husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Kurt didn't hesitate long to do as he was told and their first kiss as a married couple was shared accompanied by the applause of their small but enthusiastic audience.
