Also, this story is based on Maya. She is my favorite character and I will be writing this story in relation to how I believe she is thinking. In the interest of not plagiarizing the entire game, I will find ways to skip unimportant dialogues and go straight to my own work.

Chapter 36

Meet the Psycho

It had only been a few days since she met the guys, but even these few moments of silence were stranger to Maya.

Damn, when did I become so needy? Without those assholes yapping in my ear it's getting really lonely around here. To think that I used to hate being around people. These guys really are something else. I like the paint job on this one though, bet I could destroy Axton in a race. I wonder who won between him and Salvador.

Maya's mind wandered to that day, when they first met Lilith and when the two of them were in the Light Runner in the back…

Fucking shit. Can't I go for one damn hour without her jumping back into my head? This is ridiculous! I want to hold her, talk to her, kiss her, I just want her around me but I don't want her near me. Ughh, this heat is strong.

While lost in thought she almost missed the station, but her GPS rang out and she snapped back into reality.

Woah! Shoot. Wow that was surreal. Hm, looks like that's the place.

She pulled over to the front of the station and got out of the Light Runner.

"Hm, kinda run down. But I guess it works."

Maya walked up to check the arrival times of the train, it wasn't due for another ten minutes.

Guess I'll just take a seat and check up on my gear. Wonder what the guys are doing.

-Back at Sanctuary-

Maya left the guys a message that she was picking up some packages for Tannis, so they were on their own in regards to recruiting Lilith for their cause.

"Hey, are you sure you wanna go alone? We can come with you," Axton's offer was genuine. Although he had some bad blood with Lilith it seemed cowardly to just let his friend go into the lion's lair.

Zer0 appreciated the concern, but knew better than to allow those two anywhere near Lilith right now.

"Thank you, but with your recent scuff with her along with Salvador's short temper? I don't think I'll be able to keep a fight from breaking out this time around."

Salvador nodded, "I agree. I'd KILL the bitch if I see her now!"

Axton admitted defeat, he threw his arm around Salvador's shoulder and walked off, "Alright then, we're going back to HQ for a smoke and some brotherly bonding time. You holler if you need anything."

"Yes sir," Zer0 replied courteously, bowing as he backed away towards Lilith's place.

Zer0 had very little interaction with Lilith, but so far his file on her was quite dynamic. He was very aware that she and Maya had a rapport going, but as to their relationship right now he assumed was not good. Lilith had a boyfriend, the man they were trying to get now and she was using Eridium to enhance her skills. His people pride themselves in being observant and too smart for their own goods. Zer0 was no different.

All things aside, he was mildly excited to interact with a second Siren. Considering that there are only six at almost any given time, meeting two in the span of only a few days was an amazing stroke of luck.

Once in front of Lilith's door Zer0 knocked gingerly and waited for a few moments. Then he knocked again.

"Is she not home?"

Unbeknownst to Zer0 she was upstairs soaking in a cold bath, trying to cool herself down from the earlier breakdown. It took a moment for her to realize that someone was knocking at the door.

Fuck me, who could it be now? Dammit I don't want to see or talk to anybody right now. Ughh. God! Can you just leave me alone?! Oh great, still knocking. Oh fuck this shit!

"I'm coming! Gimme a minute!" Lilith shouted at the top of her lungs, completely annoyed that she was being disturbed.

Zer0 took a small step back, "Seems I've upset her. Guess it's not that hard to do. Poor Axton."

Lilith quickly threw on some clothes and ran downstairs, "Jeez. This better be damn important."

"Yes?!"

"I apologize for the inconvenience, but I need to speak with you. If you have a few minutes."

Lilith scoffed, "Hah. Really now? That's it? Disturbed my bath for that? Fine, come in."

Zer0 bowed his head slightly, "Thank you."

Within seconds Zer0 noticed how messed up the living room looked, seems like Lilith still hadn't cleaned up yet. He walked over to what looked like a couch and took a seat.

"In the interest of saving time I'll get straight to the point," Zer0 leaned back and waited for a reply.

"Shoot."

"We need your help getting to Roland."

Lilith glared suspiciously, "And why would you want to do that?"

"I'm sure you know. To help. And for our own reasons. Not the point, can you help?"

"Fine, but if anything happens to him."

Zer0 scoffed, "You have four overpowered Vault Hunters that survived Handsome Jack's mountain of dynamite. I'm sure grabbing a capable soldier should not be too difficult."

With that he got up and headed for the door, but before he could exit Lilith rushed to the front of the door.

"I have one condition," Lilith bit her lip and stood there for a moment. Contemplating whether or not she should speak.

"What is it?" Zer0 questioned.

Lilith swallowed hard and began to speak, "I want to speak to Maya."

This caught Zer0 off guard, he knew relations between the two were strained but this request was more desperate than he had expected from Lilith. He stood there and thought about it for a moment.

"Hah, I'll try but she is a grown woman. She will do as she pleases," Zer0 replied as he opened the door, "With that said. Whatever happened between the two of you, I hope you resolve it. If you hurt her again. We won't hold back next time."

Lilith smiled as she watched Zer0 walk away.

If we fix this, I will work the rest of my damn life making her happy. If she'd let me.

-At the Train Station-

Hm, seems like the train is a few minutes late. Man this is annoying. Hope it didn't get blown up… You never know on Pandora. Oh hey wait. Nice it's coming! Better pack up all this gear.

During her spare time Maya figured out a way how to make more weapons available to her outside of her ECHO inventory. It was pretty handy to have guns around rather than scanning through her inventory during a damn fight.

Okay cool, got everything in line. Gun's good. Train's here. Let's grab my shit and go.

Just as she turned to face the train a strange figure in the distance caught her eye, as she peered closer it looked a lot like a man...but not quite.

"What the hell? Is that a psycho?"

Woah, okay he's getting up. Is he okay? Better be careful though, he looks dangerous.

Suddenly the man screamed, "I'm the conductor of the poop train!"

Okay….so he is a psycho. Better knock him out before he fucks with the shipment. Ugh I hate fighting these guys. Well time to put this gun to the test.

Maya jumped down and began firing, to her surprise the psycho seemed smarter than the rest that she has dealt with before. He was dodging and quickly hid behind a rock.

Well this is fucking great. I can't use my fucking Phaselock right now, still too weak. Ugh come the fuck out!

All her attention was so focused on the psycho that she didn't notice some Rats were coming in from behind her. As she continued firing the psycho screamed incoherent bullshit at her.

"STRIP THE FLESH!"

The fuck?

"SALT THE WOUND!"

Haha, he's kinda funny. About to die and still trying to act macho.

"Turn around pretty lady!"

Wait what?

Maya saw him throw an axe in her direction but clear above her head, she turned around just in time to see it hit a Rat square in the head. In a split second the psycho had run up, jumped on the Rat, yanked out his axe and continued fighting.

Shit...he's good.

The man went on a wild rampage, killing all the Rats in his way. When he came to the last one he screamed, "I'm gonna put my PAIN INTO YOUR SOUL!"

This was a sight to behold, Maya was quite impressed with this wild man. In midst of her laughter Maya saw a Rat jumping at the man.

Oh fuck!

With as much energy as she could muster Maya Phaselocked the Rat, she was still a little weak so she couldn't use Helios on him.

Alright, this guy earned the right to knock some bitches around.

When Maya got to the top of the platform the man looked at her, in an unspoken agreement he jumped up and killed the last Rat.

So...what the hell is he? Should I say something? Or what's up now?

"I powder my cockatiel for the rib cage slaughter!"

What? This guy is fucking nuts…. I kinda like that.

Maya smiled and raised her eyebrow, "Thank you."

The man nodded and proceeded to walk off again.

"Wait! Who are you? What's your name?"

The man stopped dead in his tracks, she could see that he was shaking a little before replying, "Even HELL doesn't know what pain BREWS in me!"

The fuck? Okay… what do I do now? He technically saved my life, but he isn't exactly sociable. Guess I'll just leave him to his thing then? Whatever gotta grab my shit.

"Alright then… Thanks again. I guess I'll see you around."

"KRIEG!"

Maya turned back, "What?"

"KRIEG IS THE NAME! AND KILLING IS THE GAME!"

Maya grinned wide, this guy was very interesting, "Alright Krieg. Thank you. I'll be on my way now."

Normally she doesn't turn her back to strangers, but this guy did prove himself to be moderately trustworthy. Maya walked over to the train and opened Container 78, which had the shipments for the station she was at. It took her a few minutes to find the right package, but it was very big. Lugging it out was going to take a while.

Well fuck me. She didn't say it'd be this big. Dammit. Well, better get to work.

She began tugging at the package and it was inching its way out, but very slowly.

"Oh my God! This shit is so freaking heavy!"

Out of nowhere Maya found herself shoved aside as Krieg picked up the package, all he did was look at her expectedly.

He wants to help me carry it over to the Light Runner? Really? Wow this guy either doesn't talk or says crazy shit. Alright then, I guess I should lead him there.

"Uhhh, thanks. I'm right outside," Maya said as she walked towards her vehicle.

Krieg quickly walked to the back, strapped the package on securely and stood there staring at Maya again. She was torn at what to do, this man just saved her life and helped her save a trip to the chiropractor, but she didn't know what to say to him. Just then she realized that he was a very well built guy and the Crimson Raiders always wanted new recruits...would they mind? Maya excused herself for a second and went to a secluded part of the station, then called up Tannis.

"Hey Tannis?"

"Oh yes hi! How'd it go? No hitch I presume? You're still talking to me and all."

Maya snickered at Tannis' one step mind, "Yeah mostly. Thanks to this guy at the station. But hey, would you mind if I brought him back? He's pretty strong and might be useful to the Crimson Raiders."

Tannis didn't reply for a while, but then she came back, "I suppose that would be fine. If you trust him?"

"Hah! I trust him as much as I can trust someone I just met."

"Sounds good enough. Come on back!"

"Alright. Thanks Tannis," Maya was grateful for her vote of confidence. She was the new girl after all.

Maya came back out of the station and walked towards Krieg, she jumped in the Light Runner and gave him a smile.

"Would you like to come?"

Without another word Krieg jumped into the Light Runner.

Damn, today has been freaking weird.
