Chapter 35

It was a few days when Serana and Blackheart arrived at Whiterun. It was almost nighttime as they entered the Hold. When they entered, Blackheart decides to sell some items to get more gold coins, but all the stores already closed. As soon as Blackheart and Serana entered his house, they found it to be empty.

"Huh," Blackheart said, "No one is here."

Serana said "Where is your sister?"

Blackheart replied "She must be with the Companions. When I am away, they look after her."

He then started to walk up the stairs and said "I'll go put on some clothes, be right back."

When he was out of sight, Serana began to look around. On the weapon rack she saw a Steel Battle Axe that was the Axe of Whiterun while next to it was Dwarven Sword that was the Blade of Hjaalmarch. As she observed the weapons, something caught her senses. From the smell of it, it almost smelled like a wet dog.

"Ah crap," Serana thought as the door opened.

Kiara's voice said "When is big brother coming?"

Aela's voice replied "I don't know. I thought I smelled him but…"

Her voice trailed off when she smelled something in the air. When Aela turns her head to the right, she saw Serana near the weapon rack. Aela stood in front of Kiara as she took out her sword and points it at Serana.

Aela said in a venomous tone "Vampire."

Serana replied in the same way "Werewolf."

Serana is confused, why was a werewolf like Aela doing with a young Wood Elf girl? She got her answer when Blackheart walked down the stairs wearing regular clothes and said "Hey Serana, I heard the door open, did someone came in?"

When Kiara looked at Blackheart, she gasped in excitement. As Serana gave off a confused look, Kiara said in an excited way "Big brother!"

As Kiara rushed up to Blackheart and gave him a warming hug, Serana was surprised at this. She would have thought that Blackheart's adoptive sister would have been a Nord, an Imperial or even a Breton, but a Wood Elf? She never had seen anything like that.

When Kiara and Blackheart separated, Blackheart said "How is my little sister doing? Staying out of trouble?"

As Kiara nodded, Aela said "Harbinger, why is there a vampire doing in this house?"

Kiara jumped in a frighten way as she looked around looking for the vampire. Blackheart replied "Aela, be nice."

He then said "This is Serana, she is my friend."

As Serana nodded, Blackheart said "Serana, this is Aela. She is with the Companions and a member of the Circle."

Serana said "Nice to meet you."

When Aela huffed, Blackheart said as he placed his hand on Kiara's head "And this is my sister Kiara. Say hi."

Kiara waved and said "Hello."

As Serana waved back, Aela said "Let me ask again, why is there a vampire here?"

Blackheart said in a defensive way "You too? You are like the tenth person to offend Serana."

He then thought of something and said "Is it because you are a werewolf? I have read that werewolves and vampires are two competitive monsters."

Suddenly, both Serana and Aela both look at him in a threatening way. Serana said "Excuse me?"

Realizing his mistake, Blackheart said "I-I-I mean…not that I am saying that you guys are monsters or anything, but I am just saying…"

Deciding to have a little fun too, Aela said "After all the times we spent together, is this how you see me Harbinger?"

"Oh come on!" Blackheart whined, "Not you too!"

As Serana and Aela laughed, Mephala said "Being told off by a vampire and a werewolf? This isn't your day."

Blackheart said "Shut up, Mefa."

He then said "The reason Serana is with me is because we are at a crisis here."

"What crisis?" Aela asked, "And where is your Housecarl and the Khajiit?"

Blackheart said "They are at Fort Dawnguard."

"The Dawnguard?" Aela said, "You mean the hunters who hunt down vampires?"

As Blackheart nodded, Aela said "Do they know that you are with one?"

Blackheart said "They do."

He then said "And it would be best if we not tell you about the vampire crisis. The less people know about this, the better. The last thing we need is everyone causing a panic."

As Aela nodded, she said "So how long have you two been together?"

Blackheart replied "Only for a few weeks."

Serana said "And no, nothing is happening."

Kiara suddenly said "Is she going to be my new sister?"

Except for Serana, Blackheart's and Aela's eyes widen and Blackheart said in a surprised way "Kiara!"

Kiara laughed as Serana said "What is she talking about?"

Blackheart said "Don't ask."

That is when Kiara yawned and said "I am sleepy."

She then turns to Blackheart and said "Can you read me a story?"

Blackheart replied "Uh, sure."

Kiara cheered as she went up stairs and into Lydia's room. Aela then said "Blackheart, I need to speak with you."

Blackheart replied "Okay, shoot."

Aela said "Alone."

Suspicious, Blackheart said "What is it? What did I do?"

"Nothing," Aela said, "It is a job that we have received a few days ago. Vilkas and Farkas are away on a mission and I…well…I'll tell you when you have the time. Meet me at Jorrvaskr when you have the time."

"Okay," Blackheart said, "See you soon."

After that, Aela left Blackheart's home and made her way to Jorrvaskr. Serana then looks at Blackheart and said "Anything happening between you two?"

Blackheart said "I swear nothing is happening between…"

Suddenly, he stops before saying "Why do you care?"

Serana quickly replied "I-I'm just curious."

Mephala said "She is lying."

Serana said "Shut up."

Before Blackheart was going to say something, Kiara's voice said "Big brother!"

Blackheart said "Be right there."

He turns to Serana said "Make yourself at home. I am just going to read to Kiara before she sleeps."

He then made his way to Lydia's room where Kiara was eagerly waiting for him on the bed. She had a black book in her hands with a picture of a dragon on it. As Blackheart sat on the chair, Kiara quickly gives the book to him. When Blackheart saw the title, he nearly laughed. For the book was called 'The Book of the Dragonborn'.

"Kiara," Blackheart asked, "Where did you get this?"

Kiara replied in a cheerful way "Aela got it when she was away. She reads it to me because it reminds me of you!"

Blackheart smiled and said "Okay, then let's see what this says about me."

He then opens the book and starts reading to Kiara. After a few minutes of reading the book to Kiara, there was one part of the book that took an interest in Blackheart. At the end of the book, it reads: The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns up the Last Dragonborn. Knowing that the World Eater is Alduin and the Dragonborn is himself, Blackheart is starting to think of what will happen if he fails. As he said before, this is the God of Destruction for crying out loud here. He has never faced anything like Alduin before. Sure Blackheart faced a Super Mutant Behemoth and other types of creatures, but Alduin himself, that's almost taking down god himself.

His thoughts were interrupted when Kiara said "Big brother, are you going to beat the scary monster?"

Blackheart looks at her and said "What?"

Kiara replied "Aela said that the monster in the book is coming back. Since the dragons are coming back, she said that the monster is returning. Is it true?"

Blackheart stood there in silence before saying "It's true."

Scared, Kiara said "Is big brother going to beat him?"

Blackheart replied "I will. Don't worry, I am going to kill him."

Kiara smiled and said "Yay! You are the best!"

Blackheart smiled and said "That's right."

"Big brother," Kiara said, "When are you going to stay?"

Blackheart replied "When everything is safe; you, me, Lydia, M'aiq, Torlak and Serana will find a new home so that we can all be together."

Kiara smiled once more and said "Like a family?"

Blackheart nodded and replied "Like a family."

Kiara yawned and said "I am tired. Good night, big brother."

Blackheart rubbed her head and said "Good night, little sis."

After Kiara gave him a loving hug, Kiara fell asleep. Blackheart stepped out of the room and let out a deep breath. All of a sudden, he heard the door close from the front. Looking around, he saw that Serana was gone. When he left the house to look for her, he saw her walking through the main gates. Blackheart followed her to see what she was doing. After walking through the gates, he saw her standing off to the side. All of a sudden, Blackheart heard Serana…crying?

As Serana was leaning on the wall, Blackheart approached her and said "Serana? Are you alright?"

Serana straighten up and said "Nothing. It's nothing."

Mephala then said "You are such a terrible."

Serana then snapped "Shut up!"

"Serana," Blackheart said, "What is wrong?"

Serana took a deep breath and said "It's just…the way you care for that girl. I have never seen anything like that."

"Like what?" Blackheart said.

After a moment of silence, Serana said "A loving kind."

Blackheart stood there confused when Serana said "Even though this Kiara is not your blood-related family and is from a different race, you still love her like she was your own sister. My family doesn't give a crap about my well-being. All they care about is their own ambition and don't care about what I feel."

"Serana," Blackheart said, "I know how it's like to be in your situation."

"Really?" Serana said in a provoked way, "Have your parents ever been involved in their plans like my parents have?"

Blackheart replied "Well…no, but…"

Serana then said "Then we have nothing in common! My mother sealed me away from the world that I cared for and…"

Blackheart then yelled "Will you just listen to me for like 5 seconds?!"

As Serana stood there silent, he then said "My parents were originally from the Wasteland before I was even born. They were working on Project Purity, a machine that can create clean water so that everyone in the Wasteland can have some. But when I was born and my mother died, my father took me away from their dream and hid me away from the world I knew. After years of living in the Vault, believing it was my home, my father left me behind so that he can fulfill my mother's dream."

He took a deep breath and said "Even though my father wanted me to be safe in the Vault, there were people accusing me and my father for ruining everyone's life in the Vault. So instead of staying, I left to find him, only to see him die in front of me. In the end, I fulfill my parents' dream of giving the Wasteland free water."

As he looks at Serana, he said "So you see Serana, even though my father cared about me, his ambition to continue working on his project made him forgot about my well-being. He believed that I was safe in the Vault, but the truth, everyone was out to get me."

Serana said "So, you mean to tell me…"

Blackheart then said "We were both hidden away from the world by our parents for a long time, they didn't care if we were safe or not and they pursuit their goals, even if we are involved."

Serana then said "But unlike your father, my father wants to find a way so that vampires can roam all over Tamriel without the fear of the sun. And I am not planning on helping him."

"My point is," Blackheart said, "We have something in common."

Serana stood there silent before saying "Do you really mean what you said to Kiara?"

Confused, Blackheart said "What are you talking about?"

Serana replied "About finding a new home so that all of us, including me, can live in and be a 'family'."

"Oh," Blackheart said, "You heard that?"

"Yes," Serana said, "Do you mean it?"

Blackheart looks off to the horizon and said "Serana, look around you."

Thinking he was ignoring the question, Serana said "Don't change the subject."

Blackheart smiled and said "Just look."

As Serana looks around, Blackheart said "Tell me, what do you see?"

She said "Are you kidding me?"

Blackheart said "I'm serious. Tell me what do you?"

As she looks at the plains of Skyrim, she said "I see Whiterun and its guards."

"And?" Blackheart asked.

Serana replied "I see the trees, the river and some deer off the distance."

Blackheart then said "And how do you feel about all of this?"

Serana replied "I feel okay."

"To you, it feels okay," Blackheart said, "But to me, I feel like I am surrounded by life."

Confused, when Serana was about to ask him, Blackheart said "In the Wasteland, it is completely dead. There are no trees, the water and air are contaminated by radiation poison and everyone is struggling to survive. When I first saw the people of Skyrim, I thought to myself, they have no clue how lucky they are living in a peaceful place like this. When I heard about the Civil War that is happening, I couldn't believe that there is a war taking place here."

Serana said "Don't what to be rude, but what is the point?"

Blackheart replied "I miss my home very much and I don't know how to return. So if I can't return, might as well start a new life in Skyrim."

Serana was surprised by his response and said "You miss this Wasteland? Even if everything you say is true, why do you want to return to it?"

Blackheart replied "When you live long enough in the Wasteland, you have a connection to the land. Also, there are a lot of people who needed to be saved from the harshness of the Wasteland."

Thinking things over, Serana said "And what about Kiara? How did you meet her?"

Blackheart replied "I saved her from a couple of Hagravens. Her real parents died from a Forsworn who took her to the Hagravens for some ritual. Thankfully, I killed the Hagravens before they could kill Kiara. At first, she was scared of me. But over time, she learned to trust me, even to the point of seeing me as a brother."

Serana was touched by this. Hearing Blackheart taking in Kiara touched her, Serana said "And you plan to start a new life with Kiara by starting a family of your own?"

Blackheart thought about it and said "Yeah."

Serana then said "And you plan to have Lydia, M'aiq and Torlak in your family?"

Blackheart said "Of course. Even though they are my friends, I treat them like family."

There was yet another moment of silence when Serana said "And you want to be part of your life?"

After she said that, Blackheart was speechless. He didn't know what to say to her. Serana then said "Is there a problem?"

Blackheart said "No! I mean, I want to have you part of my life…"

Mephala said "Ha! You admit your feelings!"

"Mephala!" Blackheart said, "Shut up!"

Serana then said "What is she talking about?"

Blackheart said "She is just trying to get attention. My point is, you don't have to be alone anymore. You have people like us, Serana."

"Are you kidding me?" Serana said, "I am a vampire. Highly doubt anyone wants to know me better."

"That's not true," Blackheart said, "You aren't like the other vampires. You are more open-minded, kind and caring. People will get to know you better if they see past your vampire aspects."

Serana smiled and said "You really think so?"

"Of course," Blackheart said, "And don't worry, I won't let Harkon go near you."

"Are you sure?" Serana asked in a surprised way, "I mean, I saw your reaction when my father transformed."

Blackheart said "I know. And I admit it, I was scared. But I promise you that I will do everything in my power to protect you from him."

Serana shook her head and said "I told you not to make promises you can't keep."

Blackheart smiled and said "And I told you that I always keep my promises, no matter what."

Serana smiled and said "Thank you."

Once they made eye contact, they both started to blush. The way the moonlight was hitting Serana's face was almost breath-taking. The way her eyes shined in the dark, her pale skin was revealing under the dark night and how she looks, Blackheart was drawn to her. He was beginning to wonder if Serana was using her Vampire Seduction on him. But spending time with her, Blackheart knew that Serana will never do that to him. Serana on the other hand was having a difficult time looking away from Blackheart. She had to admit it, she was starting to have feelings for him. Serana has never felt was love really is. Sure she had love from her mother, but she never felt love like this before. Just then, Serana started to move her face closer to Blackheart's. Instead of moving back, Blackheart was moving his face towards hers. All of sudden, Serana wrapped her arms around Blackheart's neck while he wrapped his arms around her waist.

Just as they were about to meet lips, a guard out of no where said "Hey, no lollygagging."

Blackheart let out a sigh of frustration and whispered "You fucking asshole."

"What was that?" the guard asked.

Blackheart replied "I said you fucking asshole! You just had to interrupt us!"

The guard simply huffed and walked away. Serana straighten up and said "So…um…I'm just going to return home."

Blackheart said "Alright, I am going to see Aela. If I don't see what she wants, she can get a little bitchy."

"Right," Serana said, "Well…I'll see you soon."

After that, Serana returned to Blackheart's home. When she was out of sight, Mephala said "Looks like there's an improvement."

"What are you talking about?" Blackheart asked.

Mephala replied "I am not saying anything."

Blackheart let out a sigh of frustration and said "Let's just go and see what Aela wants."

Aela was eagerly waiting for Blackheart to arrive. She couldn't believe that the Harbinger of the Companions is friends with a vampire. What's next? Blackheart is going to be friends with a Hagraven? Just as she was thinking about Blackheart, he walked into Jorrvaskr.

"So," Blackheart said, "What is it that you need to talk about?"

Aela then took out a note, hands it to Blackheart and said "This just came in. It's a job down in Falkreach."

As Blackheart took the note, he said "Why couldn't you give this to Farkas or Vilkas?"

Aela said "Read the note."

When Blackheart opens the note, it reads:

Dear Companions—

We have a crisis at our hands. We are holding a man who savagely killed a young girl. Witnesses say that this man turned into a beast and killed the girl. We heard that the Companions deal with situations like these and we were wondering if you can deal with this man. We would have deal with this man by ourselves, but he isn't a man. Please, we will pay handsomely if you come and kill this man. We have him as our prisoner in one of our jail cells. Please come as soon as possible.

— The Jarl of Falkreach

"Okay," Blackheart said, "And why are you showing me this?"

Aela said "Did you read it? What part of 'a man turning into a beast' didn't you understand? What other person does that?"

Blackheart thought about and said "You think this guy is a werewolf?"

Aela nodded as Blackheart said "How is that possible? I thought only the Companions can turn into werewolves? Well…now you, since you're to only one in the Companions who's a werewolf."

Aela replied "I thought so too. But then, who knows what other werewolves are out there."

She then huffed and said "Like a former Companion member."

"What a minute," Blackheart said, "Someone who was a werewolf left the Companions?"

"Yeah," Aela said, "It was long before you. But it's in the past."

There was a moment of silence when Blackheart said "And you want me to look into this?"

Aela said "I don't Vilkas and Farkas to be involved in this job since they cured themselves. And I don't want to make things more complicated."

Blackheart said "And you want me to take this job?"

Aela nodded and said "You're the only one who can do this job, Harbinger. I know anyone else can take this job, but I feel you are capable of handling this man."

Blackheart looks at the note and said "And are you sure the Jarl of Falkreach wants this man dead?"

Aela replied "The Jarl in that Hold is a dick. But for him to send a letter to us, it must be urgent."

Blackheart thought about it and said "I'll look into it. Thanks for the information."

When he started to walk away, Aela said "Have you done her yet?"

Blackheart looks back and said "Done what?"

Mephala said "She is asking if you slept with Serana."

Blackheart said "We did share a bed in the College of Winterhold, but…"

The idea then hits him and said in a surprising way "Are you saying that I had sex with her?!"

Aela smiled while Blackheart said "Why are you thinking about that?! And since when were you the gossip type?!"

Aela laughed and said "Just curious."

"I can't believe you," Blackheart said, "I'm going to start walking away. See you when I get back."

As Blackheart left the room, Aela thought "If that Serana didn't have her vampire aspects, the two of them would be a good couple."

When Blackheart arrived at his house, Serana was waiting for him. Blackheart then said "What are you waiting for?"

Serana replied "I was wondering…since there is only one bed, how are we going to do this?"

"Oh," Blackheart said, "I was thinking you take it while I go somewhere else to…"

Serana blushed and said "But this is your house. I was thinking more about…sharing it?"

There was a moment of silence when Blackheart said "Um…if it is alright with you."

Serana nodded and said "It's fine."

When they were heading upstairs, Blackheart said "Hey Serana, can you do me a favor?"

Serana replied "Sure, what is it?"

Blackheart said "I am going to Falkreach for a job the Companions recently received. While I am away, can you take care of Kiara for me?"

"Why can't I come?" Serana asked.

Blackheart replied "It's Companion business. Please look after her."

"Alright," Serana said, "When are you going to leave?"

Blackheart replied "I don't know how long I am going to be out, but please keep an eye on her."

Serana said "I will. Just be sure you get back safely. We still have a lot of work to do."

Blackheart sighed and said "Don't remind me."

Once they entered his bedroom, Blackheart undid the bed and he and Serana rested on the bed and soon fell asleep.

I hope you enjoy this chapter. And I hope you like it when Aela and Serana jumped Blackheart because of what he said about the both of them. I know some of you are saying that I am going too fast with the Blackheart/Serana pairing. I plan on taking it slow in the later chapters, but I want all of you to see the start of something between the two of them. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this and will return with more chapters.
