Thirty-Six Mila
The worse thing about being in the dark, you never know what time it is. Thanks to the window being boarded up, I couldn't even tell if it was daylight or not. Sleep was almost none existent. We'd gotten three sandwiches so far. I gave all of them to Bree. My stomach was growling and I was hungry. But I had to do the right thing, I had to make sure that Bree and EJ were going to be alright. The door opened and a tray was slid across the floor again.
"Why do we only get one sandwich? There are two of us in here you know," Bree yelled out. As usual the vamp was quiet. I heard a hissing before the door slammed shut. Bree rolled her eyes and walked over to the tray. She picked the sandwich up and broke a piece off. She passed me the bigger half. I shook my head no and reached out for the smaller piece. Bree smacked her lips and held the sandwich out to me.
"I get what you're doing but if Embry is going to find us like you said, he'll be just as mad if you aren't well. At least start splitting the food with me," she said. She ended up breaking it into somewhat equal pieces. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I took the first bite. It was a piece of ham with bread, that's it. Bree sipped some water and passed me the bottle.
"How many days has it been?" she asked me. I wasn't sure. But if I had to guess, it must have been two days by now. If Sabrina was giving us two meals a day then we should be at the beginning of day two. Two days and it felt like it had been two years. The door opened and Sabrina walked in. I jumped up from my seat and stood in front of her. Sabrina looked at me and started to laugh.
"The fact that you think you can still do something to protect your friend is amusing. I'm not here for her. I'm here for you."
"What do you want Sabrina?"
"I told you what I wanted yesterday and I still want it…to kill those mutts. And you are going to tell me how to do it."
"I told you already you-" I stopped talking when I felt Bree squeeze my arm. Last night I told her I had no idea what she was talking about. If I said what I wanted to say, which was telling Sabrina to go to hell, she would know I lied. She would know I had been lying to her all this time. I didn't know what that would do to her. Sabrina needed to know she was never going to win but I couldn't tell her that. I took a deep breath and kept lying to her.
"We don't know what you're talking about." I told her. A smile slowly spread across her face. She took an unnecessary breath and started to walk around us slowly in a circle. When her fingers brushed against my arm I wanted to throw up. My heart was pounding and I could feel the blood rushing to my ears. It was just like the first time I saw her months ago. She leaned in close to Bree and took a deep breath.
"So you two have no idea what I'm talking about huh? Perhaps I should show you. Maybe that will jog a memory or two out of you ladies," she yelled before grabbing Bree and pushing me away. I flew across the garage and hit the opposite wall. The wind was knocked out of me. Bree was yelling as Sabrina dragged her towards the door. The room was spinning and my ears were ringing. Every time I tried to stand up, I fell back to the ground. I shook my head and tried to get my bearings.
"Sabrina…stop….let…her…go," I managed to get out. Get it together Mila. You need to get up. I told myself that over and over. I needed to get up so I could get over to Bree. I had to stop Sabrina. I just stood up when Sabrina pulled Bree out the garage.
"Grab her," Sabrina told her vamp. The girl walked over to me and grabbed my arms. I could feel the bruises start to form. She dragged me out of the garage and back down the hall. As we were being dragged down the hallway Bree and I fought to get loose. It was no use. Sabrina pulled a door open and the smell hit me like a freight train. It smelled like blood. I had no idea where she was taking us but I was getting scared. Well more scared than I already was. I was amazed that we weren't dragged down the stairs. When we got to the bottom, I looked around. It was the basement.
There was blood on the walls and on the floor. Bree started to scream and I looked on in horror. It looked like someone had been murdered down here! Sabrina tightened her grip on Bree's arms.
"I have something for you," she said. It was almost a whisper it was so quiet. Who was she talking too? I looked back at the vamp who was holding me. The girl looked at me and smiled. She grabbed my face and made me look ahead. There was a doorway in front of us. The door opened up. She was going to feed us to a vamp! I started struggling to turn my head away. It wasn't any use but that didn't stop me from trying. If I was going to die I would much rather I not see it coming. I closed my eyes and held my breath.
"What the hell is going on?" Bree yelled out. I opened my eyes and my mouth dropped open. Caleb stood in front of me, eyes blood red. He looked like him but not really like him. If I wasn't scared for my life I would have teased him about the fact that he had to be dead to look good. Caleb's eyes roamed back and forth from Bree to me. Within the blink of an eye he was in front of Bree. His took a deep breath in and when he opened his eyes again, they were black. He hissed and opened his mouth.
"Caleb…NO!" I screamed at him. His arms wrapped around Bree's and his mouth went straight to her neck. When Bree screamed this time it was different. Bree's let out a scream but it doesn't last long. I'm struggling, trying my hardest to get out of the vamps arms but it's not working. I can't get over to Bree.
"CALEB STOP….STOP IT!" I screamed at him. It's almost like he can't hear me. Bree's hands were clawing at him when he first grabbed her but then they fell. Sabrina stood watching before she said enough. Caleb was quickly flung to the back of the basement. He hissed and tried to get back but was flung back again. I turned trying to figure out what was going on. Saul stood behind us, his hands out in front of me. Every time he flicked his wrist Caleb went flying. It was an amazement that the walls hadn't come tumbling down yet. Bree had fallen to the ground, she wasn't moving at all. I didn't stop the tears as I looked at her.
"Bree…no," I cried out. Sabrina stepped over Bree and stood in front of me.
"Stop crying little girl. She's not dead. He didn't feed long enough for that." Suddenly Bree started to scream out in pain. Her hands went to her neck and she started scratching at it. "That's the venom slowly moving through her veins. She'll be one of us by sundown."
"No!" I yelled out.
"No?" Sabrina repeated "Well since you asked me so nice, there is one thing that can be done. Saul here can suck the venom out. But only if you tell me what I want to know. HOW DO I KILL THE MUTTS?" she yelled at me. I looked at Bree; she was still moaning and moving around the floor. She looked like she was having a seizure. What was I supposed to say to Sabrina? I couldn't tell her how to kill the pack. AS far as I knew they didn't die. Quickly I looked around the room, trying to think of something.
"I don't know how to kill them, but I do know how to get them to surrender."
"What is it?"
"Tell Saul to stop her from changing first." I demanded. Sabrina looked past me and quickly nodded towards Bree. Saul ran over and fell to his knees. He grabbed Bree up to him and started to suck the venom out. As he did, his eyes started to turn black. This wasn't a good sign. Saul was holding her longer than Caleb had. Suddenly he lifted up and dropped Bree back to the ground. Caleb took two steps towards us but was quickly thrown back to the wall. He started to growl.
"Saul you handle him, Kat take the girl back, and you come with me," Sabrina said. She grabbed my arm and dragged me up the stairs. We ended up in the kitchen. She threw me down on a chair and leaned up against the counter top.
"So how do I kill them? Silver, a potion, a silver bullet through the heart?" I had to hold in a laugh at that. Sabrina basically named every legend that was out there about werewolves. Wait a minute, legend. That was it! "I'm waiting." she said impatiently.
"Well you can't actually kill them. The pack is Spirit warriors which makes them immortal." I paused and Sabrina started to growl. "It's true. The only reason they even came to be was because a wolf spirit and a human spirit joined. Thanks to you and your kind. Just like you are immortal, so are they."
"My kind can be killed, you've seen that." Sabrina said cutting me off. She was right I had said that. Vamps could be killed but I didn't know for sure if the wolves could be. I knew they could be hurt but they healed very quickly.
"Yes but if you want to kill them you have to separate the two spirits. When the Spirits are no longer one, they stop phasing. When they stop phasing you can kill them."
"How do I do that?"
"You have to…you have to…" I paused and quickly tried to think of something. I had to come up with a way that would get me and Bree out of here but wouldn't kill the pack. "You have to kill the one they love…and they have to see it. They will be so heartbroken the human spirit will force the wolf out. Once he's out, you can kill them." I looked at Sabrina, hoping she believed me. I really couldn't tell. She stared at me for a few minutes. I steadied my breathing, hoping that she wasn't going to see through my lies.
I knew if she thought or figured out I was lying, she wouldn't hesitate to feed me to Caleb. Sabrina walked over and grabbed my arm. She didn't say anything as she dragged me back to the garage. She opened the door and tossed me inside. I managed to keep my balance this time. Bree wasn't in the garage.
"Where is Bree?" I yelled at her. Sabrina responded by slamming the door shut. I ran back and tried to open the door. It was pushed open and I fell down to the ground. Saul hauled Bree in the garage. I jumped up and caught her when he tossed her in the garage. Her eyes were closed but she was still breathing.
"Bree…Bree I need you to open your eyes," I said to her. They moved like she was trying but nothing happened. Her neck was covered in blood and I couldn't tell if she was still bleeding out or not. Being as gentle as I could I dragged her close to the wall and slowly sat down. It was hard to do but once we were both on the ground, I put her head in my lap. I slipped out of my jacket and balled it up. I let that replace my legs and tried to find something to clean her up.
I needed a light or something. I ran back over to the work bench. Maybe I missed something before. I ran my hands across the bottom shelf and felt nothing. I ran them across the top and squealed when my fingers touched something. I grabbed it and started running my hands over it. "Please be flashlight, please be a flashlight," I whispered. I almost cried when I felt the plastic. I found the switch and moved it up. The light came on and flicked back off. I hit the flashlight on my hand three times before it came back on. The light wasn't strong at all. I ran back over to Bree and got back by her neck.
There was a bit mark on the side but it didn't look like it was bleeding. I quickly turned the light away from her and looked around the garage. It was empty and there was nothing I would chance using to clean her neck. Bree groaned and lifted her hands to her neck. I grabbed them and put them back by her side. I didn't want it to get infected from all the dirt.
"Bree don't touch your neck ok? I'm gonna clean it up." I had to do something. There had to be something in this hosue that I could use. I turned the light off and slipped under Bree's leg. When I got to the door I started to pound on it.
"You need to let me clean her neck! If she dies before her mate sees her, the plan won't work. They have to see you die Sabrina!" I yelled. I waited with my ear to the door. "HELLO!" I yelled and pounded on the door. Nothing. I took a deep breath and turned around. I had taken three steps when the door flew open. A first aid kit was slid in and the door was shut. I smiled in relief and grabbed the kit. Now I just needed to find a way to get in front of the guys before Sabrina did.
