Hello, my lovely readers. It is almost over. There are only one full chapter and an epilogue left before we're done. :,( But then the sequel will begin. So, I really hope you will tune in. Anyway, we have two full chapters and one epilogue thingy before the official end of Amp Burger. Tissues, I say. Blows nose. So, this chapter is supposed to be funny. Please, let me know if you want to scream every time Caroline says the words peanut butter or whether that is horribly gimmicky. Enjoy!

Chapter 34: The Off Switch

Caroline Forbes walked up to a door in the mountains of Appalachia. She began to knock on the door until a young, dark haired woman opened the door. "My friend, Tyler, is sired to a psycho, hybrid named Klaus. He would have asked for your help himself, but I kept snapping his neck along the way. Do you have peanut butter?" Caroline didn't wait for an answer before she compelled the girl to let her in.

Hayley stared at Caroline with her lips pursed. "Who the hell are you?" she asked Caroline as she followed Caroline into the kitchen. Caroline began to open the cabinet doors.

"Seriously, who doesn't have peanut butter?" Caroline muttered to herself. "I'm Caroline. But that does not concern you. Again, it's Tyler who needs help." She opened the refrigerator door and began to look around. She pulled out a bottle of milk, a loaf of bread and two bananas."

Hayley rolled her eyes. She pulled open a drawer. "My friends eat these. So, I have to hide them." She handed Caroline a package of peanut butter cookies.

Caroline smiled. "Thanks." She took out two slices of bread and peeled the bananas. She placed a few of the cookies on top of the bananas. Then she began to eat the sandwich. Haley looked slightly green watching Caroline eat her sandwich.

"That is gross," Hayley wrinkled her nose.

Caroline narrowed her eyes. "Who asked you?

"You're in my home. Eating my food. I think I earned an opinion here." Hayley followed Caroline, who had exited the kitchen. Caroline finished her sandwich and began to drink the milk straight from the bottle. "Need to get Tyler." She muttered, as Hayley followed her out to the car.

Caroline opened one of the back doors of the car and began to pull Tyler out. "Help me. He's a lot heavier than he looks." Hayley rolled her eyes but she placed her head underneath one of Tyler's shoulders and helped Caroline drag him into the house.

"You said your friend is sired?" Hayley asked Caroline.

Caroline rolled her eyes. "Are you dense? Yes, I was too until I flipped my switch and now I can do whatever I want." Caroline frowned, "Except I can't seem to be able to keep people's blood down. I tried several times. It is really annoying."

Hayley's eyes widened. "Well, I guess that's a good thing. And where will you be staying?"

Caroline grinned. "In the best room you have in this shack." She looked around. "Which, by the looks of things, it is unlikely that you have someplace I would want to sleep in but I don't really have a choice."

Hayley continued to frown at Caroline. She really wanted this girl out of her house. Caroline grinned at her. "I'm not leaving until you fix my friend here. Then we'll be on the road and it will be like we never met. Okay?"

Hayley sighed. More than likely she had very little choice about how this was going to go. "Alright?" She peered down at Tyler, who had begun to wake up.

Tyler jumped when he saw Caroline and the strange girl. Had she enlisted the help of someone else to keep him subdued? This was getting really ridiculous. "Come on, Care. Can you please, stop snapping my neck?" He pleaded.

Caroline nodded, smiling. "Sure, Ty. Now, we're going to get to the good part. Our new friend, Hayley is going to help you become unsired. Doesn't that sound like fun?'

Tyler looked up at Hayley from his position on her couch. "How do you unsire someone?"

Hayley gave him a sympathetic look. "You're going to have to shift. A lot."

"What?" Tyler asked. He jumped up off the couch. "No. No way. There has to be another way."

Hayley shook her head. "Not as far as I know there isn't."

Tyler looked from Hayley to Caroline. "I can just stay sired to Klaus."

"No," Caroline said firmly. "He does not get to control us, Ty. You can either try it her way or you can be like me and turn it off. Think of the fun we could have."

Tyler groaned. He really did not like Caroline like this and he did not think that he would like to see himself like that. "Alright, I'll try the breaking my bones version."

Caroline clapped her hands together. "This is going to be fun to watch. Do you have any popcorn?" she asked Hayley, who simply stared at her. Caroline huffed. "Fine. I'll find it myself."

Hayley turned to Tyler. "Is she always like that?"

Tyler shook his head. "No, she's never like that. Do you have a piece of paper and a pen?" Hayley pulled the items off of a desk. Tyler hurriedly wrote her note. She read it and then shoved it into her back pocket before Caroline came walking back into the room.

"I'm going to the store to buy some food. I didn't really expect guests." Hayley informed Caroline.

"Buy some peanut butter," was all Caroline said before she sat down beside Tyler and turned the television on. Hayley hurried out the door and climbed into her truck. After she was far enough away from the house, she pulled out the piece of paper. She grabbed her cell.

"Hello. Is this Klaus Mikaelson? A couple of your friends have taken up residence in my house for the night… Okay …" She hung up and called a different number. "Hello. Is this Damon Salvatore? … I think I know where a couple of your friends are …. Thanks, I will see you in a couple of days." Now, all she had to do was stall Caroline until the others arrived. She needed to get the girl some peanut butter.

Three days later:

Caroline and Hayley were screaming at each other once again. Tyler wished he could snap his own neck. When they weren't busy trying to kill him or make him wish he could kill himself, the two girls were yelling about who ran the water until the other one had to take a cold shower. Who ate all the peanut butter? Who was going to the store to buy more? Why did Caroline have to keep eating all the Pop Tarts? Why did Caroline keep switching bedrooms because one mattress was too lumpy and the other was too firm? Did Caroline have to play her iPod so loud? Did Hayley have to use Caroline's hair straightener without asking?

Tyler ran to the door when someone knocked on it. "Thank, God." He said when he saw Damon, Bonnie and Kol standing outside. "Hey, Hayley. They're here," he called.

Hayley sighed in relief. "Come in." She called without turning to look at her guests. She was too busy glaring at Caroline. "Your friends wanted to come by and say hi. Hope you don't mind?" She smirked at Caroline's anger.

Caroline had a jar of peanut butter in one hand and a spoon in the other. "What are you three doing here? No one invited you." Caroline was furious. How did they find her? She turned to Tyler and Hayley. "You two are going to wish you didn't call them."

Damon stepped forward and intercepted her. "I don't think so, Melon."

Caroline placed her hands on her hips. "Oh, and what are you going to do about it?"

Damon smiled down at Caroline. "I am so going to enjoy this." He reached out and snapped her neck. Before she could drop to the floor he caught her. "Okay, people. I need some chains. We are going to have a very special talk with Blondie here as soon as she wakes up. In the meantime I don't want her running off and doing something else incredibly stupid."

After they chained Caroline to a chair they all sat down and waited for her to wake up. As she came to, Caroline's eyelashes fluttered and she yawned. When she saw Damon, she smirked. "Hey there, jackass. Shouldn't you be at home mourning your little girlfriend?"

Damon grinned at her. "You don't know, do you?"

Caroline frowned. "Know that you're stupid? Yes, I do."

Damon didn't even flinch which caused Caroline to snarl. He pulled out his phone. "Hey, Lena. We found her." He put the phone on speaker.

"Caroline?" Elena's voice filled the room. "Care, please, come home. We need you back. I know that you were angry at Klaus and I understand."

Caroline sat there staring at the phone. "You're dead." She stated flatly. "I placed a pillow over your face and you stopped breathing. This is a trick."

"No, it's not, love." Klaus' voice now filled the air. Caroline sucked in a deep breath. "Caroline, I am so sorry … please, forgive me."

Caroline scoffed. "You want my forgiveness. Why don't you go to church? Better yet you can go to Rome and compel the Pope to pardon you for all the horrible things you've done or whatever system you believe in. But here's the thing, Klaus. You are beyond redemption. You are a monster. Looking at you makes me sick. I never want to see you again."

Caroline's words were met with silence. Then, "Klaus. Klaus, come back. She didn't mean it. This isn't Caroline." Elena called to Klaus.

"Yes, it is Caroline," Caroline taunted. "I hate you both. I enjoyed killing you, Elena. Everyone always thought Elena Gilbert was just so great and then I killed you. How in the hell are you still alive?"

Elena inhaled deeply. "I'm a vampire now."

"Oh, so you went with option B after all. You really do deserve Damon. Why? Because you're both stupid. It's a good thing you can't have kids because they would never get past the first grade if they inherited your intellect. Oh, and please tell Klaus that while he was gone I almost had sex with Elijah and I really, really wanted to." She grinned when she heard Klaus snarl. "Oh, wait he's still there."

Damon took the phone back off of the speaker. "Sorry about that. I guess we're going to go with plan B." He ended the call and looked at Caroline. "Okay, Tyler. New girl. Kol. We're going for a little walk." The four left the room.

Bonnie took a seat in front of her best friend. "Care, I know that you're in there somewhere and I need you to talk to me."

"Why don't you go fornicate with you're crazy boyfriend. Better yet why don't you do my crazy ex. Or you could do them both…" Caroline grinned at Bonnie.

Bonnie just stared at her for a long moment. "Well, I didn't want to do this but …" She reached out and took both of Caroline's hands in hers. Bonnie clasped Caroline's hands tightly. She began to chant and then they both fell into a deep sleep.

Caroline woke up and looked around. She moved her arms and legs and was thrilled to find that she was not bound to the chair anymore. "Caroline." She turned to her left and her jaw dropped. Her father was standing in the door of her house. She watched a little girl of two waddle up to her father and wrap her little arms around his leg. "Hey, baby girl." Her father lifted her up in his arms and her baby self giggled uncontrollably.

Then the image was gone. It was replaced by an image of Caroline at six. Her hair hung down her back and she wore a little blue dress. Elena and Bonnie were sitting on the swing set at school. They were saying how icky boys were. Matt came up and shoved Caroline out of her swing. He and Tyler went running off together.

Bonnie had helped her up. Caroline had tears streaming down her cheeks. Elena walked over to Matt and kicked. "That was mean." She informed the boys. "You shouldn't pick on her. Caroline doesn't like to be hurt." Then she walked back to her friend. "We'll always be there for you, Care."

Caroline turned to look at Bonnie, who was watching the movie with her. "It's not going to work you know." Bonnie didn't respond. She just kept watching.

Caroline frowned and turned back. She did not want to see this part. Caroline at fourteen was sitting on her bed and was sobbing. Bonnie came into the room. "Care, what happened?" She came into the room and sat down on the bed beside Caroline.

Caroline looked away. "I don't want to talk about it." She mumbled.

Bonnie began to rub her back. "Shh … you know you can tell me anything, Care."

Caroline nodded. "I had sex."

Bonnie's eyes widened. "Oh. Okay. So, it was bad."

Caroline shook her head. "No, it wasn't but it happened a week ago and he didn't call me."

Bonnie sighed. "You think that maybe he forgot."

Caroline shook her head. "I saw him yesterday and he walked right by me. Later, I saw him at the movies with some other girl. I can't believe I did that with this guy who is treating me like shit."

Caroline laid her head on Bonnie's legs and her friend stroked her hair. "Caroline, one day you're going to meet a really great guy and then all of these boys are just going to seem really stupid."

Caroline turned her face up to look at Bonnie. "You really think so?"

"Yeah," Bonnie said. Caroline sat up and wrapped her arms around Bonnie and they hugged each other tightly. "Okay, so let's go get some ice cream."

The images ended and Caroline and Bonnie woke up. "Well, thanks for the Hallmark moment, Bon, but it's going to take a little more than that to get me to flip my switch." Bonnie nodded and then headed back outside.

Damon walked back in. "Hey, angry Melon."

Caroline smirked at him. "Hey, guy whose girlfriend is probably going to have sex with half his friends now that he's gone."

Damon was unfazed as he sat down. "Is that the best that you've got? Because Tyler just broke the sire bond. Now, they're going home and it's just going to be you and me from here on out."

"Don't you need to get back to Lena? Doesn't she need you to hold her hand or make her decisions for her?" Caroline tugged at her restraints.

"Nope," Damon said settling into the chair across from her. "We could be here for centuries. I don't think you'll look so good after you haven't fed for a couple of months."

Caroline rolled her eyes. "I don't feed that much anymore, anyway."

Damon looked at her curiously. "Well. Yeah. That would explain it."

Caroline narrowed her eyes still wriggling. "What are you going on about?"

"You. The real reason that you don't want to turn you're humanity back on." Caroline looked away. "Deny it all you want. It will still be there."

Caroline really began to push at the chains. "Let me out of here. Or I swear I will tear your heart out." Caroline's eyes were glowing yellow now.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You wouldn't want to put yourself under any kind of stress." Damon smirked when Caroline's eyes turned blue, again. Her lip wobbled.

"I can't be with him, Damon. I can't. I can't…" Caroline's voice broke as she began to sob. Damon took the chains off and gathered her into his arms.

"Hey, Caroline. Hey." Damon rocked Caroline as she gave into the grief that had been building ever since the failed wedding. "We're going to go home. Okay?"

Caroline began to shake her head. "I can't go home. He'll be there. I can't ever be near him again. I can't risk this happening again. Please, Damon. Please, promise me, you won't make me go back." She was clutching at his shirt.

Damon thought about what to do next. "Hold on." He took out his cell and went outside. After motioning for Bonnie and the others to go back inside he called Klaus. "Yeah, she's Caroline again. But there is a problem."

Klaus looked at the sky. He was still in the pool after everyone else went home. "And what would that be?"

"She doesn't want to come home because she doesn't want to see you." Damon waited for Klaus' response.

Klaus closed his eyes. "If that is what she wants. I will leave immediately."

Damon stared at the phone in his hand. Caroline came out to stand with him a minute later. "So, he's leaving?" She said looking into the distance.

Damon nodded "Yeah."

"So, I can go home now." Caroline wrapped her arms around her waist, shivering.

"Yeah, we can go home." Damon placed an arm around her shoulders and they walked back into the house. Tomorrow they would be back in Mystic Falls and they would have to deal with everything that had changed. But tonight they could rest and wait for what the next day would bring.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter because there are two left. It's been a really long time since I started this story or maybe it just feels that way. However, this crew's journey is long from over. In a way you could say it's just beginning. So, please, tune in next week.

Thank you to anyone who has followed, faved is reading and/or reviewing.

Special thanks go out to WeasleysGroupie for indulging me in my crazy ideas and loving my first effort to write in many years.

Thank you, Klaroline-lovegames. I know Elena drives you nuts and you want Klaus and Caroline to live happily ever after. They will as soon as they work out the kinks because they are fighters and Klaus is going to fight like hell for Care in the sequel. P. S. he has more than one reason to fight with her. Can you guess why? I have left many hints leading up to the next chapter.

Thank you, redbudrose. I'm glad you stuck with the story through all its crazy ups and downs. I hope you enjoyed this episode, too.

Love,

LL
