Chapter 70

After the initial shock of hearing John's voice on the other end of the phone, Phil was able to calm himself down and listen to the man. In fact, he was downright ecstatic as the grin wouldn't disappear from his face the whole time that they spoke.

They talked about various topics, the weather, jobs, Eve's baby, sports, anything really in order for them to stay on the phone. John's heart was beating a bit faster every time he heard Phil let out a low chuckle. It still turned him on. After about three hours, John heard one of the nurses telling everyone that they had 10 more minutes until lights out.

"Sorry Philly….I…gotta go."

"Oh, it's okay. I understand." Phil replied, hiding the disappointment from his voice. The two men were silent for a few seconds, their breathing the only sound that was emanating on each end.

"Phil?"

"Yeah?"

"You…you meant every word in that letter?" John asked. He must have questioned Phil three times already about it and each time Phil said the same thing.

"Every word John boy, every word."

The larger man grinned wide, letting out a content sigh at Phil's response.

"I love you Philly. And I'm sorry for being so distant. I'm trying to get better…really I am."

"Hey, you take your time and don't be sorry. It's not your fault John. It never was."

John held back some tears as they said their good-byes. The man hung up his phone and set it on his chest as he stared up at the ceiling.

"My Philly loves me…" John whispered, still smiling like a love struck fool. Jeff came into the room and gave John a look.

"Are you high?"

"Nah…just…really happy."

"Ahhhh…so I guess you figured out what Phil was trying to say?" Jeff asked, going over to his side of the room and removing his shirt.

"Yeah…" John said breathlessly. Jeff only shook his head, smiling as he did so and climbed into bed.

"Well, I'm glad you sorted it out. I'm sure you'll see him again to."

"Well, he is coming to see me in the next couple of weeks."

"No not that. Didn't anyone tell you?"

John sat up, perplexed at Jeff's question.

"Tell me what?"

"Mmmm…maybe I shouldn't say anything but if you're here for the first two months and you've been following the rules and stuff, they give you a weekend pass to visit family. You should talk to your doc about it cause I don't know if that fight today will affect it."

"Really? You mean I get to see my family and my friends and my Philly?"

Jeff giggled at the mention of my Philly. "Yes, your Philly! Must be nice to be so in love…" He watched John stand up and put his hands in the air like he won the lottery.

"I'm gonna see my Philly!"

Jeff then turned his body around, feeling sad that he didn't have someone on the outside that cared for him like Phil did with John.

The following week, John met up with his doctor for their regular appointment. The two talked about John's progress, his strengths and what he could improve on. John also spoke candidly about his conversation with Phil and how much it meant to him.

"…just hearing his voice…it made me feel safe. Like nothing bad will ever happen to me when I'm with him."

The doctor smiled at John's response.

"Well I am happy that you decided to call Phil. He seems like a very nice man and an important person in your life right now."

"Oh he is. In fact…I kinda have a question about visiting him…" John said, giving his doctor his signature dimpled smile.

"Okay John. What would you like to know?"

"I heard that if someone is in here for the first two months and they're following all the rules that they can get a weekend pass to visit family outside of the facility. Is this true? Can I go? Please? Pretty please!"

The doctor had to supress a laugh, leaning in a bit to John.

"John, that is true and I have spoken with the other staff about it. Although the incident last week was a bit of a concern to us, we understand the circumstance of why it happened. I don't normally do this but in the next week or two, I'll have a final decision on that outcome. I believe you'll be allowed to see your friends and Phil. Just give it some time and please do not mention this to the other patients, even Jeffrey."

John smiled wider as he nodded his head in agreement. "Oh, no problem! I won't say anything and thank you, thank you, thank you!" The larger man got up and hugged his doctor, practically lifting him off the chair before settling him back down again.

"I'm sorry. I'm just really happy!"

"Yes, well. I can understand that." The doctor said, straightening out his shirt and tie.

The two men continued with their appointment and 15 minutes later, they were done. John still had a goofy grin on his face as he left the room and couldn't wait to hear their decision about him seeing Phil.

John heard about his allowed visitation two weeks later. He was overjoyed and couldn't wait to tell Phil about it. He called him immediately and they both agreed for John to visit him the following week. Jeff was happy as well that John was going to see his boyfriend.

The night before John's weekend visit, he suddenly woke up from some weird noises. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and noticed Jeff on the other side of the room standing near the window. The man's back was to John so he couldn't figure out what Jeff was doing. He got up slowly and started to walk towards his roommate.

"Hey dude. What's going on man? I heard some noises and wondering what you're staring at outside?"

Jeff didn't respond and instead kept on mumbling incoherently. John was getting worried now. He didn't know what to do and was afraid to leave Jeff alone in the room. Walking a bit closer he placed his hand on the man's shoulder and heard a bone-chilling scream.

"GET OFF ME YOU FUCKER! YOU DID IT! YOU DID IT! YOU DID IT! YOU RUINED MY LIFE!" Jeff lunged toward John, knocking him onto the floor. The next thing John knew, Jeff was pummeling him left and right as the screaming continued.

"AHHHHH! JEFF! Please you're hurting me! Get off me now!" John warned. Not too long after, the room was lit and some orderlies came to John's rescue. They pried the two apart and John watched Jeff struggle with one of the nurses.

"Bob, get the syringe. We need to subdue Jeff." The other nurse left the room quickly, bringing a syringe as he returned.

The two orderlies held Jeff down as the one nurse stuck the needle into Jeff's bicep. The man moaned out in pain but soon stopped his struggling. His breathing was becoming normal and within minutes he was falling asleep. The nurses lifted Jeff up and placed back in the bed before turning to face John.

"John are you okay? Do you need to be taken care of?"

"I'm fine. What the hell happened?"

"Jeff has a tendency to sleep walk once in a while. Sometimes, he can get a bit violent. I'm sorry if no one mentioned this to you but it hasn't happened in over six months so I guess we forgot. We're gonna have to report this incident but it won't affect your visitation. If you want, you can sleep in one of the spare rooms tonight for your safety."

John looked over at Jeff's sleeping body. He didn't want to leave the guy in the middle of the night but felt unsure of staying in the room.

"I guess I can take the spare room."

The orderly nodded and walked John into the room, closing the door. The larger man slowly climbed into bed but it took him a long time to fall asleep again. His mind still raced about Jeff's sleep walking and he wondered if that had anything do with him being here. After about two hours, John was able to fall back asleep.

Four hours later, John was getting ready for his weekend. He didn't see Jeff that morning and a part of him really didn't want to see him. Today, he just wanted to focus on his visit and Phil. The man smiled thinking about his fiancé and couldn't wait for him to be picked up. He got his duffle bag ready and went downstairs. He met his doctor as they went over a few details and afterwards, John helped himself to a snack before settling into one of the big chairs near the window.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Jeff coming towards him. He straightened up but didn't turn his head yet.

"Hey…can I talk to you before you leave?" Jeff asked quietly.

John looked up and smiled softly. "Yeah okay."

"I'm sorry for what happened. I was doing so well but I guess…I guess I just slipped."

"Why didn't you tell me that you sleep walk? At least I would have been more prepared." John asked.

"I didn't think it would happen again! I haven't had an episode in like six months. I'm sorry. Really I am." Jeff pleaded looking straight at John.

The other man let out a sigh. "Don't worry. It happens but at least I know what to do now next time."

The two shook hands as they moved on from the subject. Half an hour later, John noticed Phil's car and couldn't hold back his excitement. He grabbed his bag and swiftly went to the front.

"John, before you leave, I'll need to speak with Phil first. It only take a few minutes."

The man nodded and waited for the car to stop. Phil walked to the facility and smiled at John.

"Hey…"

"Hey…."

The doctor coughed to get their attention and motioned Phil to his office. Five minutes later, Phil was back out and the two men went out the door.

"Remember John, you need to be back by Sunday, no later than 4pm." The doctor announced.

"Okay."

"John!"

The larger man turned his head to see Jeff by the front door.

"Yeah?"

"Remember, I wanna hear all the juicy details! Especially about Phil!" Jeff laughed as John shook his head smiling and Phil turned a rosy red.

"Pervert! See yah later Jeff and please be good."

The two climbed into the car, Phil honking the horn a few times as they drove back home for the weekend.
