He stood right outside the door with his ear pressed against the door, listening to the deep voice that sang on the other side. He had not meant to eavesdrop, not really. He had just been on his way to the room he had claimed as his own when he had picked up on the bass that floated down the corridor. Curious as to who could have been singing, Fai had ended up right outside the princess's door, coming to the startling realization that the voice did in fact belong to a certain hot-headed ninja.
Wondering why in the world the warrior was singing, he had stuck around, quickly recognizing the song as a lullaby and slowly connecting the dots together. Had the warrior been singing something like that at any other time or had the princess not been the one to request something of the sort, he would most definitely have teased the fearsome ninja over his singing skills. Even if it wasn't perfect and some of the notes left a lot to be desired, it was still rather heart-warming to hear the red-eyed man doing something as paternal as singing a lullaby to a fourteen-year-old girl as he set her to bed.
77. Melody
Sound magic was not only the most difficult of all types of magics to perform, it was also one of the most powerful and thus only someone with a high level of mastery over the art itself, or an insanely high amount of magical power, could perform it at the drop of hat. This magic had the widest variety when it came to usage, since all one had to do was create an appropriate tune to do what was desired and watch their magic do their bidding. But sound magic was just as tricky as it was versatile, for one wrong note could send the spell blasting back into the caster's face. The melody Fai had whistled right at the edge of that acidic lake in Rekourt Country had been something he had come to associate with the feeling of protection because that was what Ashura-ou would always hum when setting him to sleep in Celes when he was still just a child. So it did not come as much of a surprise to the blond when even such a meaningless tone suddenly created the strongest protective barriers that a magician of his caliber could have cast around the group.
