Chapter 36
Night had fallen and the only light Obi-Wan could see in the distance was the dimly lit hut he called home. Even with three moons circling the planet, the desert night was unfriendly to sight. The small caravan of Obi-Wan and his pair of eopies slowly made their way across the desert to his home. Tar Lup had loaded the Jedi down with supplies so that he could stay clear of the cities and settlements for a while. Obi-Wan had hopes that he would have someone to share the supplies with when he arrived, but as he came closer to home, he knew it was only empty hope.
Beru and Lars were safely in their home. The latter was less thankful than the former, but Obi-Wan let it go without an argument. Lars only wanted for Luke to have a normal life and live without problems from the Empire and why shouldn't he? Except that he can't or he won't. Being who he is and where he comes from, he is destined to be a savior for the galaxy; he has to be the savior for the galaxy.
A glimmer of hope raced through Obi-Wan as he climbed from his eopie and found an empty lot where the Falcon was docked just the day before. Leaving the eopies still packed with supplies, he cautiously walked into the hut not fully knowing what to expect.
Inside the hut, the light was low but Obi-Wan easily detected a visitor had been present.
From the corner of the hut R5 rolled out and rattled a line of droid language that Obi-Wan shook his head at.
"You're going to have to help me a little more than that. I've never been good at translating droid."
R5 gave a few more noises before standing erect and starting his holo reader. Floating in front of Obi-Wan in typical holo blue was Ahsoka sitting on the floor of Obi-Wan's hut.
Ahsoka took a deep breath and let it out before beginning. "I have so much to say and don't have the time to say it all. As I'm sure you know I didn't stop Anakin. What I did was lead them on a chase which should keep you and Luke safe. I don't know where Chris went, but I fear the worst. I've taken his ship and I'm going to rename it. I'm thinking of calling it Fulcrum. It seems fitting, I've hit a peak and it's time for a new direction. Oh, and I left R5 for a companion."
Obi-Wan shook his head.
"I know, I know, but maybe you can use him or trade him or something. There's plenty of Jawa around to trade with." Ahsoka took another deep breath and as tears began to well up in her eyes, she continued. "I heard of a few rebels over the years, a few contacts that I need to look up. I will be back to see you Master and maybe bring a few of them with me. So until we meet again, may the Force be with you."
The holo shut down and Obi-Wan leaned forward and began the process of erasing R5's memory.
"May the Force be with you, Ahsoka. May the Force be with you."
