Selfless love
Chapter 34: Gender and guns
Three weeks have passed since Christina told us about Marcus and Andrew having an army and the war that is happening in the city we once called home. The war is still happening but our friends are still alive and well. There are Dauntless guards still in Amity, making sure they don't get into here. Though, there hasn't been an attack yet.
I am twenty weeks pregnant now and Johanna booked us an appointment so we can see the baby, hoping it would cheer us up a little. We're excited, but not as excited as we would be if we had all of our friends with us. I can't wait to see my baby though.
Tobias, my mum, Hana and I are all heading to the room Johanna told us to meet her in. Tobias and I are holding hands. My mum walks on the other side of me and Hana next to her.
We get to the room in ten minutes and find Johanna already in there, setting up the ultrasound machine, smiling as she does.
"Hey guys, come in and take a seat around the bed, Tris, you have to get on the bed for me." She says.
I get on the bed and the others sit in the three seats provided around the bed. Tobias holds my hand.
"Tris, could you lift your top up for me please." She says. I lift up my dark grey baggy t-shirt and she squirts some of the cold gel onto my stomach and places the wand over it, moving it around gently.
After a few seconds an image of our baby appears on the screen and the heartbeat fills the room. I feel tears in my eyes as I look at the miracle growing inside of me.
"Do you want to know what you're having?" Johanna asks, smiling.
"You can tell already." I say.
"Yeah." She says.
"Okay." I tell her.
She nods, smiling and moves the wand thing a bit more so she is able to tell whether I'm having a boy or a girl.
"Congratulations, you're having a boy." She tells us, smiling.
I'm having a son.
I look at Tobias and find him smiling, tears in his eyes. My mum and Hana are smiling too.
Johanna prints us off some pictures and we leave the room, Johanna has to go to her office as she has work to do. All heading back to the room Tobias and I share. All of us are smiling.
When we arrive we all sit on the bed, my mum shuts the door.
We sit there, talking for a while before we hear the phone ring.
I pick it up and see that Christina is calling. I press the answer button and put it on speaker.
"Hey Chris." I say.
"Hey." She says.
"Chris, we're having a boy." I tell her, happily.
"That's great. I'm so happy for you." She says, sounding worried.
"Christina, what's wrong?" Hana asks.
"There's a group of factionless heading towards Amity. The guards at the fence couldn't stop them getting through and they're heading towards you, right now." She tells us.
"What?" I ask.
"There are like a hundred factionless heading towards Amity, we're sending in more Dauntless to help the ones that are already there. I'm sorry. I thought you'd be safe there, but you're not." She says.
That's when we hear the guns start shooting outside.
"I'm sorry. I've got to go." She says, hanging up.
There's a knock on the door.
"Guys, it's me, Johanna." Johanna says.
My mum goes to open the door.
"Andrew?" She says when she opens it.
A gun goes off and my mum falls to the floor.
"No!" I scream.
Andrew enters the room, dragging a beaten up Johanna with him. Four other men, all of whom are factionless, enter as well.
"You're all coming with me." He says.
The factionless men charge towards us, one picks up my mum and slings her over his shoulder, they take us by the arms and drag us out of the room. All of us struggle against them.
"The more you struggle, the more likely you are to die." Andrew says.
I stop struggling, I see Hana and Tobias stop as well. My mum is unconscious and Johanna doesn't have the energy to struggle.
They lead us down many hallways and eventually we arrive at a door, the only door in the hallway.
Andrew opens it and it leads to some stairs. We walk down the stairs and arrive at another door, which Andrew opens. They all chuck us into the room, literally, slamming the door behind us. There is a small window which light seeps through, there is also a few nightlights which we turn on. There are no beds or anything, just a cold, hard floor.
Hana, Tobias, Johanna and I rush over to my mum and inspect her wound. She was shot in the shoulder but has lost quite a bit of blood.
"Tobias, I need you to rip off some of your shirt, okay." Hana says.
He nods and rips off the bottom of his shirt, giving it to Hana who wraps it round my mum's shoulder as tight as she can to decrease blood flow from the wound.
We all just sit there after that. Not saying or doing anything. We wait, hoping we'll get out of here soon. Hoping we'll be okay. Hoping the baby will be okay. Hoping everything will be okay.
Hey Ravens, how are you?
Merry Christmas. I will update as soon as possible, but I won't update on Christmas day, New Year's Day, or my brother's birthday, which is January 4th.
