Don't you just love ear infections? I don't. I just figured out I have one today and it is really irritating... Oh well...
Peeta POV
"Looking sharp there." I exclaim as Finnick turns to face us fully decked out, ready for his wedding today. Some people from here had gone to 12 sometime last week and had gotten a multitude of clothing for us and the girls from our house. They had to let out one of my suits so that Finnick and Gale could each wear one.
"I could say the same about you." He says checking me up and down.
"How much longer?" I ask checking my watch.
"23 minutes and about 10 seconds." He says quickly.
"Anxious much?" Gale laughs as Finnick fidgets with the buttons on his suit jacket. We look at him for a moment waiting for his response.
"Yeah..." He trails off, "just a bit." He smiles sheepishly at us.
"Well we should get going." I say looking towards the door motioning for the others to join me walking the short distance to the ceremony area where we'll wait for the wedding to start.
The wedding was nice and simple, although Plutarch was irritated because he couldn't go 'full Capitol' on it as we all joked. Everything that happened had to be negotiated between him and President Coin. Although the guests all agreed that nothing that he could have ever come up with would be enough to outshine the smiles that were plastered on their faces the moment they saw each other.
This very moment they're still glowing with the happiness from that very moment and I don't think that anything can change it. As we walk around greeting the 100 or so guests who were invited all of them smile, congratulate the couple, and shake their hands, a few of them give them hugs as well.
I don't know who half of these people are but all of the Victors/Tributes are here, Katniss included, and then a few more people I know from my time in 13 as well as Katniss's family.
We walk around greeting people for an hour or so before the prior residents of 12 all practically shove Finnick and Annie towards the mediocre dance floor and insist the fiddler play a certain song for them. They dance happily and I somehow find my way over to Katniss's table without realizing I was moving over there.
"They look so happy together." I hear her say sadly. She's sitting in one of the reception chairs wearing a forest green dress that flows freely until it bunches up on the ground around her chair. It has only one strap which is covered in silver and green beading that matches the color of her dress.
"That, they do." I respond as they end their dance and others make their way over to the floor. Finnick and Annie make their way off coming over to where we all stand together, Katniss, Gale, Prim, her mother, and I.
"congratulations you two!" Katniss exclaims opening her arms up to give them a hug, after being helped up by Gale and Prim. Now I can see her in entirety. The hem of the dress falls right at her feet and her stomach is highly accentuated by the soft fabric. I recognize that dress. She had worn it on the Victory Tour in District 7. They must have made alterations to it because, although it looks tight, it still fits remarkably well.
"congratulations to you as well. How's the little one?" Finnick questions giving her a large hug.
"He's really pushing my buttons. He's decided now would be the best time to stand on my bladder." She states shifting uncomfortably. Annie gives her a quick hug and she sits down once again. "I hope he comes out soon, he's really getting on my nerves." Her hand pauses on her stomach for a moment and she looks at Prim and her mother. "Would you two mind taking me to the restroom? This kid is determined to make me wet myself." She rolls her eyes.
The second Katniss leaves Johanna appears out of nowhere. "Looks like that one's getting pretty fat now isn't she?" She blurts.
"Johanna! It's great to see you too." I say opening my arms up in false gratitude, although it really is great to see her again.
"Congrats! I don't think I got the opportunity to say so before." She says giving Finnick and Annie each a hug.
"Hey Jo-Jo, how are you?" He asks happily.
"Meh, I've been better." She replies. "Nice wedding by the way." She says nonchalantly looking around.
"Fine then just ignore me Jo-Jo." I tease her.
"Hi Pete. Where's Kitty?" She asks.
"Really Pete and Kitty? Wow you really have no talent for nicknames. You are a disgrace to nicknamers everywhere." I laugh shaking my head faking disapproval.
"Okay I'll just combine you two as Katpee or Peeniss how would you like that?" I stare at her in utter revolution and she laughs like and evil genius.
That's when Katniss walks back our way heading for the table, once again aided by her family. She seems more irritated than when she left but I just shrug it off. I realize that Johanna Mason is in a dress one of the most feminine things I've ever seen her in.
It's a long white dress that brings out her naturally darker skin even though we've been in the ground for half a year now. There is a lot of beading on the bodice of it and the top is cut into a deep sweetheart neckline. I look from her to Annie who is wearing a deep blue dress that is strapless as well but has a more modest neckline the fabric is velvet and there are small pearls on the empire waistline.
"You two look stunning you know right? Any man would be lucky to have you." I tell them. "Be good to her or I might just take her from you." I tell Finnick jokingly.
"Don't make me sorry I restarted your heart." He laughs dismissing me with a wave of his hand.
I walk back over to the table that most of the people are clustered around and see that Katniss is staring at me.
"What? Did I do something wrong?" I ask flustered.
"You died in the Quell. You ran into a force-feild and died for some time. Real or not real?" She asks looking straight into my eyes.
"Real." I tell her simply. She looks down and closes her eyes before she opens them once again and looks at me.
"Could you guys go away. I don't need ten people standing over my shoulder. I'll be fine. What can I do really? I can't even get out of this chair without help so I can't exactly attack him or anything." She huffs looking up to the faces of the people who are, in fact, standing over her shoulder.
They all mutter something before they gradually disperse into the crowd, some finding a small bit of food, others meandering onto the dance floor.
She's about to speak when a blaring alarm rings out over the speakers and what she was about to say is lost.
Hope you don't hate me for that one! I have poll up on my page for you all to vote on so go and vote now! Thank you for your continued support of my story!
