CC slammed the phone on the receiver, sinking down onto her sofa. Chester was curled up beside her and was startled by the sudden noise. She stroked his fur, assuring him it was alright. She hated her mother.

BB Babcock was a complete bitch. CC had hated her even as a child. Now, the woman was trying to get CC to marry a man for money, claiming she had power over CC to do so. CC was a grown woman and her mother had no such authority.

Yet, she did have authority to pull CC out of the will. CC had her own money, more than enough to sustain herself, but it was her money and she was entitled to it. If she didn't marry the man her mother had picked out for her, she'd be the first woman in the family not to continue the tradition.

As bitter as she was towards the idea of relationships and love, CC wanted to find love. Perhaps she would never find a love that worked out, but she still held tight to the idea of marrying someone you loved. She had seen her parents and how miserable they had been. She'd rather die alone before living with someone she hated. Perhaps she was too much of an idealist, but it was something she always wanted to stick to. She knew it was unrealistic, but she wanted to try even if she received a lot of crap from her family.

Letting Chester walk across her lap, she thought of marriage. She never pictured herself married or even in a relationship. When it came to thinking of someone she would want to spend her life with only one man ever came to her mind. And he hated her.

Why was it that Niles always came to her mind? Why was it that he was the only consistent man in her life? He was the only one that had seen her cry, helped her when she was drunk, and made her laugh. Despite their banter, she enjoyed his company from time to time, even if he was an infuriating butler. They had a stable relationship, and she found comfort in that stability.

CC shook off the thought, turning on her television, hoping to forget about marriage and men for a while.
