Hi, guys. Another update after a long time. I hope you enjoy it. :) Be patient for the next update, please. ;) Thank you!
Marmoreck: Jajaja. ;)
Sabrina80086105: I love your nickname. :D Paige will go to get her girl back, but you'll have to wait a little bit. Thanks! :)
Del: Yeah, you're right about that. It's like Paige said. Long distance relationships must really suck. :( Of course things will get better. You have to remember the title of the story. LOL A short time apart from each other can be bad or good. In this case, I assure you everything is going to be just perfect. :D This is a true love test that they're both going to pass, despite the bumps on the road. Thank you! ;)
mickey07: Thanks! I'm glad you like the story. I'd like to update it more often too, but it's practically impossible. Anyway, I do my best to write whenever I have time. :)
kaligleekster: Aria? Hahaha. I'm having such a great time with your theories about the traitor. I won't spoil you though. It's going to be a surprise, that's all I'm going to say. xD You just need to be patient. It was my intention this story was like the show in that matter. The only difference is that you have to guess about the traitor instead of A. LOL
ThBu: So I'm almost a killer. xD I hope you love this one too. Thanks! ;)
Enjoy!

Chapter 35: I knew it!
Emily's POV
It's another day, but it seems like the same day repeating all over again. I don't feel like doing anything. I'm apathetic. I don't feel like going out, going to class, being with my friends, eating. I just want to be in my bed and do nothing. I know it's pathetic, but I don't have strength to live a normal life. Paige has been calling me but I didn't answer. My friends tried to reach me too, but I didn't pick up either. If I continue acting like this, I know I will miss my friends. Honestly, that doesn't bother me at all. I think something is wrong with me. It's weird, but she made me a person who couldn't care less. It's the first time that I feel like this. Aria's been calling me non-stop all morning. My cell is vibrating again. I look at the screen, it's Aria again. I finally decide to pick up. This won't stop until I tell her that I'm fine, even if it's obvious that I'm not.
"Hi," I add briefly.
"That's all you're going to say, Em? Are you okay?" She seems a little bit worried.
"Yes, I am. I just want to be alone." Two statements, one lie. It could be worse.
"Emily, I'm worried about you."
"You shouldn't. I just need time."
"You have to start doing normal stuff. You can't hide there. It's not the end of the world."
"I'm not in the mood to have this conversation."
"We need to talk, Em. Where do you want to meet?"
"I don't want to, Aria. Could you just…?
"No, I can't. I'm sick of it." She's angrier than I expected.
"I don't feel like going out."
"Then I'll go there. I need to see you."
I don't say a word and she hangs up. I will have to let her in or she will get more upset. I'm fine with being here, I don't understand why she has to force me to do stuff that I obviously don't want to do. I get that she wants me to be same person I was before Paige left, but I need time. That's all I'm asking. A knock on the door startles me. I know who it is, but I didn't expect her to be here so soon.
"Hi. Come on in," I add shyly, opening the door for her to get inside. She doesn't seem happy at all. I get it, but she could be more understanding now that she knows what is going on with my life. Besides, she's the only one I can talk to about her.
"Sit down," she orders me bossily. I just look at her surprisingly, waiting for her to speak. I don't even have the courage to open my mouth. I just realized that I misbehaved and I made her angrier than usual. This moment feels like when you're waiting for your mother to tell you off after you've done something wrong. It's an odd feeling coming from Aria, who is the sweetest person ever, but I'm really nervous. "This needs to stop, Em," she adds seriously, staring at me with her big shiny eyes.
I nod, but it's not as easy as it looks like. I want to be the same person I was before her departure, but I feel that I need her in my life so I can function. "I want to, but I can't"
"I get it. But you have to make an effort." She seems calmer than a few seconds ago.
"It's easy for you to say so."
"I know it takes time. But you've been cooped up in here, doing nothing and thinking about her. At least you have to try."
"I don't have strength for that."
"You have to change that attitude, Em. Then, what are you planning? Stay here and have no social life until she comes back? You can't do that, Em." She is bothered again.
"I don't know if she's really coming back. That's the thing. It sucks. I miss her." She hugs me tightly, making me feel better despite my sadness.
"She told you she will come back as soon as possible. I don't know her a lot, but she seems like the kind of person that keeps her promises."
"I don't know if that decision is up to her. I mean, she is running from the reality because she's not brave enough to face the truth." Hurt takes control of my feelings again.
"Don't say that. You don't mean that." I frown, I really think that. She may have done this because of us, but deep down, she's terrified of her coming out. I really think like that, but I also admit that I'm as coward as she is. However, my case is different, I'm not the daughter of one of the richest person in the country. "Did you talk to her?"
I shake my head, avoiding her gaze.
"What!? What the hell is wrong with you two? You are the cutest people I've ever known. You don't know if she is already in London?" She opens her eyes widely, stupefied.
"She texted me when she got there," I admit, but I skip a lie.
"That's all? I mean… I don't understand anything."
"She called me, but I wasn't in the mood."
"Come on, Emily! You are acting like a child. She called you and you didn't call her back." She keeps shaking her head, bothered by the whole mess I supposedly created.
"She has called more than once, actually," I admit, red with embarrassment. "What I am supposed to say? I wouldn't know what to say. It would be awkward."
"That's stupid! She's your girlfriend."
"Well, I'm not so sure about that. I don't know what we are anymore. It's complicated."
"No, you're making it complicated." She points her finger at me. I guess I deserve it, but she's making me feel worse. "It's easier than this. I know long distance relationships are not easy, look at me and Ezra."
"You can't compare your relationship with Paige and I. It's not only the distance that separates us, there are more things."
"I know that. But it's worth it, Em. Don't play dumb with me. You have to be strong."
"And what I'm supposed to do now?" She smiles at me and I don't understand what is really going on.
"Call her. Right now." She smirks at me and I instantly shake my head, refusing to make her idea come true.
She hands me my cellphone and nods at me. "No, I can't. Aria, no."
"Why not?"
"I just can't."
"Okay, then I'll call her. She unlocks my phone and I see that she starts touching the screen. I extend my arm, trying to avoid a disaster, but she stands up and takes a few steps back so I can't do anything about it. "Paige? Who are you? Where is Paige?" Aria has a confused look on her face. Maybe it was Jess who answered the phone.
Paige's POV
It´s really weird that today is Friday and it's my first day at my new college. Since it's the first day, I must go. I don't feel like it, but I have to give an example. I have the feeling that dad won't like it if he finds out that I didn't even attend the first day of college. Once I take a seat at a class, I feel that people are staring at me. There were a lot of empty seats, but I just chose the one in the corner, far away from everyone. Some things don't change at all. I always create a shield so I can protect from people that I don't know. At first, I have the impression that everybody is looking at me, but maybe I'm imagining things. I'm not famous here. And even if I'm the new student, I don't think this attention I'm getting is normal. I mean, I feel like an alien. After the first period, I leave campus. I can't stand to be there anymore. I don't know people, I'm not good at making new friends and I have the feeling that I don't fit in here. Instead of going home and having to deal with Jess, I take a very long walk visiting the most famous places. I take my iPod from the bag, I put some music on and I walk next to a very big group of tourists. After a few hours, I start liking the city. It's a very multicultural place where people won't stare at you even if you have very eccentric looks. I like that. This city would be perfect for me and Paige. We could have a normal life, be happy. She didn't pick up my calls and didn't call me either. I have a bad feeling about it. It's like she already moved on. I take my cell from my bag and look at the screen, hoping that she decided to call. However, she didn't. Suddenly, I realize that it's almost 7 in the afternoon. I grab a taxi and head home.
"How was your first day?" Jess asks cheerfully.
"It was fine," I lie. It wasn't a shitty day either, but it could have been way better.
"Did you make some friends?" I look out of the corner of my eye and she sighs. "You're impressive. Did you at least try?"
"You know me really well, Jess. I don't have your ability. And I noticed that they were looking at me like I wasn't from this planet. It was really awkward."
Jess frowns at me. "They don't know about our family stories here, Paige. You're being paranoid. Chill out."
"I knew it wouldn't be easy. Don't worry about me."
"You just need to loosen up. Have some beers, you know," she winks at me.
"I don't know what you're thinking, but forget it," I claim.
"You're such a party pooper, Paigey." She laughs.
"I just don't like parties. We don't have the same interests."
"You're right about that. I don't like women, for example." She smirks at me and I blush. "But you're going to come with me and my friends to have a beer. It's not a party, it's just a group of people hanging out. You will like them."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"You're coming, period." She grabs my arm and drags me outside. Maybe she's right and I should be more open to new experiences. I'm young, I should be doing things like this.
I was expecting a disco or some exclusive place, instead we're inside a little pub with very good atmosphere. Her friends are really nice and I'm having a good time. I really appreciate that my sister is always next to me, she doesn't leave my side. I'm talking to everyone and I'm having fun, but it's cute that my sister is making every effort for me to be comfortable. The group of friend that my sister was telling me about is composed of three girls and two boys. They met in college and now they're all living and working here in London. That's why she contacted them. They are 5 years older than me, but I feel like I fit here. My sister even comes with me when I go to the bathroom. I tell her that it's not really necessary, but she's finally taking on the role of the bigger sister. It's really nice for a change. When we come back Susan is looking at me like she did something wrong.
"What's up?" I ask.
"I'm sorry, Paige. Somebody called to your phone, it was next to mine, they're the same model and I took the call. The girl on the other side of the line didn't seem very happy when she heard my voice. I'm really sorry."
"It's okay," I add, even if I'm worried. I mean, that must have been Emily. She didn't take my calls and when she finally calls a stranger answers my phone. I know her, she must be thinking that I already met someone and… Thinking about it makes me sick. Emily is a really jealous person and I'm pretty sure that she must be hysterical.
"I'm really sorry, Paige. It wasn't my intention. It's just that my iPhone was next to yours and I didn't pay attention to the identity of the caller. Besides, I was expecting my boyfriend to call and…" She is really sorry, but it was just a mistake. It's not her fault.
"Don't apologize. It's nothing." I look at my sister and she instantly understands my look. She nods at me and I go outside so I can call her without the music of the pub bothering us.
"Come on, pick up!" I say to myself, once I'm outside the pub. "Emily?"
"Who was that?" That's the first question I was expecting, and I didn't fail.
"One of my sister's friend. She thought it was her phone and she answered. How are you? Why didn't you answer my calls?"
"Are you in a pub?" She's mad at me. I don't get it. She's been ignoring me for a few days and she's being rude to me even if I didn't do anything wrong.
"Yes, I am. How are you? Are you okay? I was worried."
"What are you celebrating?"
"Enough! What is your problem? I'm concerned about you and you're just saying stupid things." Her silly comments are making me angry.
"Stupid things? Do you think it's normal that…" I take a deep breath and I interrupt her.
"You know what? You ignored me and now I have to put up with your senseless jealousy. I'm not in the mood for this, so call me when you come to your senses." I hang up, not letting her say a word. Maybe I was super rude, but I'm sick of her childishness. I love her, and I really miss her, but this is not what I need right now.
Emily's POV
"Don't be paranoid. She told you that girl was just a friend." Aria is trying to make me feel better, but I can't control my jealousy.
"She hanged up on me," I add with a really bad temper.
Aria's phone vibrates and she takes a look at it. "Try to act like nothing happened. Hanna and Spencer are coming. Actually, they're already in the building, so they will be here in any minute." I sigh. This is not going to be easy. What a shitty day.
Only one minute after Aria receiving the text, we hear a knock on the door. Aria opens the door and I don't move an inch of my body.
"Hey!" Hanna enters the room, cheerier than ever. Aria says hi to her and I just look at her. "Why that long face, Em?"
"She's having a bad day, that's all," Aria adds. Spencer stares at me, but she doesn't say a word.
"Okay, you need some fresh air. You've been locked up for a long time. This doesn't make any sense." I look daggers at her. "Look, I know that one of your best friends left, but it's not the end of the world, right?" Hanna looks at us, expecting some support from them. Instead, she just gets silence. I take another deep breath, but I can't calm down. I feel like I'm going to explode. I was feeling like shit and now that Hanna is here, acting like life is super happy and everything is so good that I feel the urge to kill somebody.
"Hanna, don't," Aria suggests, trying to stop the storm that's approaching.
"I get that she's upset, but this is too much. She has to admit that she's overreacting."
"What would you feel if Caleb had to leave town tomorrow and you didn't know if he was coming back?" I finally explode.
Hanna stares at me, looking astonished. "Caleb is my boyfriend, Em. It's different," Hanna adds, lowering her voice after my explosion.
"It's exactly the same thing. Paige was my girlfriend, Hanna." It came out of nowhere. I didn't plan this, but it feels great. Hanna is staring at me with her eyes wide open. She's speechless. I just stare at the floor, avoiding their gazes.
"I knew it! I knew it!" Spencer shouts excitedly. I look at her and she suddenly shuts up. "I'm really sorry," she says, trying to apologize for her astonishing reaction.
To be continued…
Did you like it? Let me know, guys. :D Suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate your nice words. You're awesome. :)
