Chapter 35 – I Swear She'll Be The Death Of Me

Kent

I dressed as slowly as I could, knowing I wanted to postpone what we were about to do as long as possible. My muscles were still sore from last night's change and I could feel every move I made. However it was a minor nuisance compared to what could be. Pain was an old friend. I looked into the mirror, hate was palpable in my features as flashes of my past came racing into my mind.

My mother's face, filled with tears and covered in dirt as she told me that everything would be alright filled my mind. I was too young to remember everything that had transpired. Although maybe I had merely blocked the images from my mind. The emotions of fear, the smell of death. It was overwhelming. I felt my hands grip the sides of the small dresser that sat in the room, causing a small snap as it gave in to my strength. My father and my brother had both died, my mother and myself captured.

I snapped back to the present. The full moon and the day surrounding it were always the hardest for me. With my wolf sitting so close to the surface my emotions were also running rampant. Death. Pain. Revenge. The wolf's voice filled my mind. Simple words, but I knew what he wanted. Wait, I told him as I pulled myself back to my full height and reached for the door knob. Renesmee was waiting on the other side. She wanted me to take her to the base. She was determined, she wanted to defend her family. I had my own reasons to make sure that this little vampire hunting group died.

"Feeling better?" Renesmee asked, she was washing the few dishes we had dirtied. But I could tell it was just something to busy her hands. She was antsy, ready to go.

"I am, thanks to your nursing skills my love." I smiled at her. I really did like this girl, it was easier to put the fake smile on my face when she was around. Easier to use the humor that made the pain of truth easier to bear.

She dried her hands and took a tentative step in my direction. "Take me there."

"It's too dangerous." I countered.

"I'll go without you" She threatened, "I can find them on my own."

"They would find you first, this is dangerous Renesmee. You're going to get hurt."

"I'm going to save the people I love."

"Are you talking about your vampire coven, or the shapeshifter?" I asked, watching her expression change from one of irritation to determination.

"Both"

I sighed, it was the answer I had been waiting for.
