Thank you so much all of you for giving me an inspiration to write more :) I added a picture of Liliya and a new picture of Bridgette, she is still portrayed by Lily Cole, on my profile page.
Chapter 35
Save our souls
Kol certainly wasn't in a good mood when he marched to his chamber, kicking a chair on his way. Damn Rebekah, because of her he hadn't had time to give the little human his blood. And now her survival depended on some damn potion made by some damn old witch. The situation didn't please him at all. He was aware of the fact that his blood wouldn't cure her actual illness, the plague, but it would make her feel better and it would be a failsafe in case she would die.
Turning her at this point was the last thing he has had in mind; he hadn't planned to turn her at all, but if that was the only option… This was ridiculous, so what if she would die, she was just a human. No, she was more than that; she was his human and he hadn't had a chance to even claim her yet. His very own damn obsession.
Ever since he could remember, he had got used to get what he wanted, if he saw something what he wanted he simply took it. Perhaps he would have never wanted her this much without the blood bond, but there was no way to know that for sure. She intrigued him and offered him a challenge, not to mention she was something that had been denied from him, a forbidden fruit so to speak. He sighed in frustration and poured himself some wine before sitting on an armchair in front of the fireplace. It was so annoying when things didn't go his way…
"Kol?" Elijah's voice said from the door.
"Have you ever heard of knocking?" Kol snapped, he didn't bother to hide his bad mood.
Elijah didn't seem to care; he simply entered the room and marched in front of the armchair, crossing his arms over his chest. Kol already knew that he wouldn't like what Elijah was going to say.
"What ever you think I have done now…" he started annoyed.
"Liliya," Elijah interrupted him firmly.
Kol tensed.
"What about her? Have something happened?"
Elijah shook his head.
"No, not to my knowledge. Niklaus is with her and I believe the elixir will help her, Vivian was a very powerful witch."
"Hmm. Why are you here then?"
"Are you interested in her?" Elijah asked calmly.
"What?" Kol snapped. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"She is 14," Elijah continued firmly. "Please tell me that I am wrong."
Kol gritted his teeth, damn Rebekah and her big mouth…
"You are wrong," he replied coldly. "Why would I be interested in Nik's human pet?"
Elijah's expression was harsh.
"You tell me, she is a child…"
Kol burst into laughter.
"You know, Elijah, do you have any idea how hypocrite you sound like?"
Elijah's eyebrows furrowed.
"What?"
Kol took a sip out of his goblet and smiled.
"You come here to preach me that she is a child and yet you had no problem letting Nik to pair her with some compelled human boy and use her as a vessel for new Petrovas."
Kol was pleased to see that judging by Elijah's expression, he had hit a nerve. Well, that was something he was really good at. It took few seconds before Elijah managed to regain his self-control.
"None of that means that it would be acceptable for you to bed her…"
"Hey, I have no intention to bed her," Kol interrupted him firmly. Not yet.
"Why the hell do you think something like that?"
Elijah looked at him intensively.
"So you are not interested in her?"
Kol huffed.
"I admit that she is quite an interesting little human, I even hope that she stays alive, but I would not bed someone as young as her. Whatever you might think of me, even I have that much moral."
Elijah was quiet for a while, his face was callous.
"I am glad to hear that. And…I believe you were right, I have ignored my own moral values for too long."
Kol didn't have time to say anything when Elijah turned around and marched out. For some reason that hadn't sounded good at all, hopefully Elijah wasn't planning to cause him problems. Well, one problem at a time, right now he didn't have much choice but to wait what would happen with the elixir. Hopefully the old witch had been as skilled as Elijah had claimed.
2 days later
Klaus couldn't remember when he would have been so tense; he hadn't slept or fed for two days. Testing of the elixir was taking longer than Joanne had expected and Liliya's condition was getting worse. She was already pale as a ghost, the only thing keeping her alive were the potions. Tensely Klaus marched across the hallway towards her chamber; he had gone his own chamber in order to change his clothes, leaving Rebekah with Liliya.
"How is she?" Klaus asked automatically right after opening her door.
Rebekah was sitting on the chair next to her bed; she turned to look at him.
"I bathed her and tried to make her drink, but she cannot keep anything down. Her body is not going to last for long."
Klaus pressed his lips together and looked at the girl, she looked dead already, she was barely breathing.
"Was she unconscious the whole time?"
Rebekah shook her head.
"No, she spoke to me."
"Really? Who did she think you are, her grandmother?"
Rebekah glared at him.
"She knew who I am, she was not disordered. She asked to be buried in holy ground and be blessed by a priest."
Klaus pressed his lips together.
"Did you tell her that she is not dying?"
Rebekah sighed.
"Just look at her, Nik, she is closer to death than any human can be before actually dying. She is suffering."
"You can go, I will take it from here," Klaus said tensely.
Rebekah stood up and shook her head.
"This is just cruel…" she muttered on her way out.
Klaus ran his fingers through his hair, the whole situation was intolerable. Slowly he walked to the bed and sat down next to the sleeping girl. She looked so weak, like a gentle touch could have broken her; it would be a miracle if she would last even one more day. Joanne would have to complete the testing today, no matter what. Today was Liliya's 15th birthday. Klaus bit his lip and touched her cheek as gently as he could. Things weren't supposed to go like this. She sighed and opened her eyes, looking straight at him. As Rebekah had said she didn't look disordered, just dead tired.
"Hi, sweetheart," he said and touched her hair.
"Hi," she muttered weakly.
"Happy birthday."
She tried to smile.
"It is my birthday?"
He nodded.
"Yes and you will have many of those ahead."
She was quiet for a while, looking at him.
"Can I have a gift?"
He was surprised, but he nodded immediately.
"Of course, sweetheart, anything."
Her body trembled; it took a moment before she was able to speak.
"Daniel…"
"You want him here?"
She shook her head.
"I want…you to free him. He deserves to find real love."
Again Klaus was surprised, but this was an easy request, what ever would make her feel better.
"Done. You have my word."
She nodded, although the motion seemed to cause her pain.
"Thank you. And Bridgette… I know…the jewelry you gave me….is not…really…mine but…"
"Of course it is yours, every single necklace and bracelet," he said.
"Please…give…them…to Bridgette. I want…her to be…safe."
"Alright, she will be safe. That is two gifts by the way."
Liliya smiled weakly, trying to lift her hand. Klaus took it and placed it between his owns.
"I…have…a gift…for…you," she said, struggling with every word.
Klaus raised his eyebrows.
"You do?"
She trembled again, but she looked into his eyes the whole time.
"I…forgive…you."
Klaus' eyes widened.
"What?"
She was wheezing, a tear rolled down her cheek.
"I must…for my…soul."
For the first time in a long time Klaus was actually confused, he had no idea what to say.
"Liliya…"
That was all what he managed to say before her body started to judder, there was blood coming out from her mouth.
"Liliya!"
Why the hell wasn't the damn potion working? He shouted at someone to get Joanne and tried to keep Liliya still in order to prevent her from getting hurt. Shit!
"Liliya!"
