The trees seemed to stretch on forever. Wendy ran in between them with no idea of where she was going, her lungs felt as though they were burning and her feet cried out in protest as she pushed herself forwards. She couldn't focus. All her thoughts led to him and she couldn't bear to think of him.

He'd known all along. He'd played with Sally like a cat plays with a mouse. Everything Mr Young did, it was all Peter Pan's doing. Wendy let her tears slide down her face. Still running, not able to stop. Every memory of Sally and Peter circled round in her mind like a plague she couldn't fight off.

He'd kissed her. Wendy's vision started to swim. She could hear ringing as she desperately tried to carry on running.

He'd kissed her, except it wasn't her.

Not being able to hold out any longer she fell to her knees. The palm of her hands grazing the floor as she hit the ground hard.

It was only when she hit the cold concrete she realised that even though she was still surrounded by the trees, she had managed to run onto the road. Looking down she saw a bright red painted line inches in front of her.

Wendy didn't know why she did it. It took them both by surprise.

On this particular day during her first stay in Neverland, they'd been watching the mermaids play in the lagoon. Peter had promised her he'd introduce her to them. Wendy had clasped her hands together in excitement and without thinking, she kissed him.

It wasn't much of anything and it was over before she'd realised she'd done it. Wendy gasped in shock at her own brashness. Mother would most certainly have disapproved. She stared at him, unsure of his reaction. His face was blank. He definitely hadn't seen it coming.

Wendy opened her mouth to apologise but was cut off as he leant in and kissed her. It was much more urgent and forceful than her chaste one and Wendy found herself kissing him back with the same amount of force. Her hands got lost in his hair, his hands were wrapped firmly around her waist pulling her closer.

When they broke away, each desperate for breath, Peter didn't say anything. He stared at her with an unreadable expression and then in the next instance, he was gone.

It was Felix that found her. It had been raining and she was stood soaked through, staring out at the road that seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance and completely unaware how long she'd been stood there for.

'Wendy.' He said carefully, noting how close she was stood to that red line.

'Have you come to put me back in my cage.' She asked bitterly. She didn't turn to look at him.

'Your cage?' He repeated, not sure what she was asking him. He edged closer to her and gently took her arm and pulled her round to face him.

She looked a mess. Her cheeks were red and tear stained, her eyes were puffy and looked sore.

'I suppose you would have to build a new one, I wouldn't have thought there will be one just lying around.' Wendy said. Felix frowned.

'I don't know what Pan will do with you.' Felix said truthfully. 'I don't think he's ever known what to do with you.'

There was an edge to his voice as he said it. Wendy thought it could have been mistaken for amusement. She looked back out to the road, staring at the world she still could not enter.

'That's my world.' She said quietly. 'Not as it was. It's older. It's changed a lot, but it's mine. I can feel it.' Tears started to spill down her face. 'I don't belong in it anymore.'

Felix didn't know what to do. She was sobbing. Felix watched her as she fell to the floor, not wishing to stay stood up any longer. He made no move to go to her, just waited for her to calm herself down. After her cries subsided, Felix fished out his phone and went to text Pan.

'I used to imagine they'd still be alive.' It was barely a whisper.

'Who?' Felix asked, his finger hovering over the send button.

'My parents.' Wendy said. She hugged herself tightly. 'I knew time wasn't in sync with different worlds and I thought that maybe when I got home.' She let out a strangled sob. 'They'd still be alive.'

Felix almost told her how pathetic that was. He opened his mouth to say the words but he couldn't say them. It was there again. These feelings that weren't his. Freddy cared about her, Freddy wanted to comfort her, not make her feel worse. Felix snarled in frustration at his inner turmoil.

'I was so young and naïve. I wanted adventure and I found it.' Wendy let out a dry humourless laugh. 'I didn't care about the cost until it was too late.'

'You tried to save your friend.' Felix muttered. The friend, a taboo subject for all Neverlanders.

'But I didn't save him.' Wendy whispered her eyes found the red line again and she stared at it, lost in her own thoughts. 'All I did was destroy my family.'

Felix lowered his hand, his finger drifting from the send button. He pocketed his phone and knelt down beside her. He studied her. Even in the state she was in, she could still be regarded as pretty. Felix sighed. He didn't know what to do. He'd never been good with words and his experience with girls was far too limited to know what to say to one, let alone Pan's Wendy bird.

Pan. Felix could feel his phone pressed against his thigh. The jean pocket wasn't large enough to hold phone comfortably whilst knelt down and it dug into him as a constant reminder that every second he didn't hit send was a defiance against Pan.

'I bet you could look them up.' Felix said. Wendy's eyes flickered up to look at him.

'It won't bring them back, but I bet there is a record of them somewhere, you could find out what happened to them.' Felix now felt uncomfortable and he stood up and shoved his hands in his jean pockets and turned his head to look away from her.

'Won't make you feel better.' He added. He pulled his phone back out and hit send and then put back.

Wendy stayed silent. She was watching the road again.

The lost boys had scurried away as fast as they could as soon as the argument had begun. It had begun as a taut, Pan using Wendy's feelings to hurt her, but the girl was a force of nature and she did not sulk into the shadows and cry over it. No, this girl looked at him with such anger that no lost boy wanted to risk being in her way.

Now they were screaming at each other. Fighting over feelings they hadn't quite figured out and didn't know what to do with.

'I'm going home.' Her voice had dropped. The screaming match was over. Peter was breathing heavily, his anger radiating from him.

'Fine, go home and take your stupid feelings with you.' Pan turned his back on her to walk away but then unable to stop himself, he spun back round.

'But there is a price for leaving.' He spat. Wendy frowned at him.

'What price?' She demanded. Pan slowly smiled and lifted an eyebrow. He folded his arms and looked at her smugly.

'One soul for another. You chose to come to Neverland and no one leaves so one of your brothers will take your place.'

'You can't.' Wendy looked horrified and that was the moment that Peter would always remember, it was the first time she had looked at him as the monster that he was.

His shadow came swooping down and before either of them could say another word, Wendy was trapped in the shadows arms and flown away.

Wendy knew he was there. She could feel him as he got closer. The rain had started again and this time it was coming down hard.

'Wendy.' His voice was barely audible over the harsh sound of water hitting concrete. His voice didn't sound as cross as she'd imagined it would. She risked looking up at him and had to squint as the rain hit her face so hard it almost hurt.

Peter was stood no more than a couple of feet from her. His mouth was open as he tried to get his breath back. His hands were curled into fists and rested at his sides. His white shirt that had been too big for him now clung to his skin. His hair stuck to his face, half covering

his eyes. He stared at her with such intensity that she felt paralysed.

At first neither of them spoke, their anger towards each other was too much to be put into words. Felix melted into the background, not wishing to be caught up in the explosion he expected to come.

'Did you prefer her?' Wendy finally spoke. The fierce look in her eyes were back and Peter let the question hang in the air for a moment before he chose to answer.

'No.' He said. He moved closer to her and she tried to scurry back, scrambling to her feet. As soon as she was stood up, Peter quickly pulled her to him. Wendy stared down at the floor refusing to look at him, missing the concerned look as he measured how close she'd gotten to crossing that line.

'Sally was just a distraction.'

Wendy frowned.

'So you used her?' Wendy accused. Peter sighed and brushed away a wet strand of hair that had fallen in front of her face.

'She wasn't real Wendy.' Peter told her, a small laugh escaped him. 'Are you jealous?'

Wendy looked up at him then. Anger fuelled her and she hit his chest. He only responded by pulling her closer so that she was firmly trapped in his arms.

'I'm not jealous.' She seethed.

'Is it because I kissed her?' Peter asked. Wendy's already reddened cheeks flushed a deeper shade of red, betraying her. Peter smiled broadly.

'So it is because I kissed her.' Peter said.

'No it isn't.' Wendy muttered. 'I'm mad at you because you've been playing some sick game that I had no say in.'

'I wasn't playing a game.' Peter snapped, his temper getting the better of him.

'So your feeling's for her are real?' Wendy's voice also rose.

'I only ever saw you.' Peter let slip. He looked down at her lips.

Wendy faulted. They were silent again, staring at one another waiting for one of them to make a move. It was Peter who broke the silence. He leant in, his hot breath tickled across her face.

'Forgive me.'

'No.' She whispered. Something felt different, he felt different.

'Forgive me Wendy bird.' He moved in closer so that his lips ghosted across hers, and she felt her heart quicken. Not once had Peter Pan ever asked her or anyone else that she could recall for forgiveness.

'You tried to kill Jefferson.' She said firmly.

'He tried to kill me first.' The anger flittered across his face as his mask slipped just for a second and then he composed himself again and Wendy couldn't read him.

'Forgive me.' He repeated.

'Why should I?' She asked.

'Because you love me.' Peter smirked. That was the Peter she knew but before she could say anything Peter's lips met hers and he kissed her so gently that Wendy's brain stopped working. It only a small kiss that lasted only seconds. When he pulled away he rested his forehead on hers.

'I, I don't.' Wendy whispered. Tears threatened to spill down her cheeks again.

'Yes you do.' Peter told her which such certainty that no one would have convinced him otherwise. He kissed her again, another small lingering kiss like he was trying to coax her into forgiving him.

He didn't like the look on Wendy's face when he pulled away for the second time.

'Would you of been like this if you'd of found me somewhere else?' Wendy said with a bite to her tone. 'Or is it the town line that's got you acting like this? You afraid I'll leave?'

'I don't know what you're talking about.' Peter said without missing a beat.

'What do you want from me Peter?' Wendy asked him tiredly.

He moved in to kiss her again. This time she held her index finger to his lips and leant back.

'I want you.' Peter said, their voices still raised the heavy rain.

Wendy couldn't work it out. She moved her finger away from his lips and her hand fell to rest on his chest. Peter's eyes had softened.

'The curse has changed you.' Wendy said after a while. Peter stayed silent, watching her as she studied him. Her hand reached up and traced his jawline with her finger. She could see the bruise that was forming along it and up across his cheek and he let out a hiss as she put pressure on it. Still he kept quiet, waiting for her.

She should have felt scared. The rational side of her brain told her that. Fear of his next move. It was like having a wild animal allowing her to stroke it. She felt like at any moment he would change his mind and devour her. She shuddered at the thought. He had always been wild and he had now been caged for the past twenty eight years.

She knew all too well what being caged did to a person.

It hadn't made him soft as he appeared she reasoned, he'd now become much more dangerous and unpredictable, and not that long ago she'd knocked him out with a frying pan.

'Ok.' She said. She watched him breathe a sigh of relief before he grabbed her hand, kissed it and then intertwined their fingers.

Wendy wasn't sure what to do next. She was fully expecting some form of punishment for hitting him but all Peter did was start to pull her towards town. She allowed him to guide her down the road, glancing over at Felix who looked as confused as her.

Maybe she'd hit him harder than she thought.

Peter had kept a tight hold of her hand the entire journey back. Felix had followed at a distance and then broke off in a different direction.

'The lost boys are setting up camp in the woods.' Peter answered her silent question. 'My apartment is too small.'

Wendy nodded and then kept her eyes on the path in front of her. She could still sense his anger. He wasn't through with her. Once he opened his front door Peter practically threw her inside. He swiftly locked the door behind him and then watched her carefully.

She was shaking. He assumed it was from the rain, he too felt a shiver as he realised how cold he was. Taking in her appearance he licked his lips. Her light pink top was sucked to her, showing off her curves. Her eyes looked sore so he knew she'd been crying but there was something about the way she was watching him, like she was expecting him to pounce on her at any second.

She was afraid of him.

Peter wasn't sure how he felt about that. He used to relish the thought of her being afraid. He'd do it deliberately just to see her cower. Now he didn't get the same satisfaction. He didn't want her to suffer like he used to.

It would seem he'd finally forgiven her.

'You need a shower.' He stated. Wendy stayed where she was, her body tense as he approached her. Peter placed his hands on her shoulders.

'Don't ever hit me again, Wendy.' He warned, his voice dropped to low threatening tone.

Wendy waited for the punishment, but it never came. She looked confused as Peter fetched her a towel and pushed it into her hands.

'Don't take too long.' He watched her as she nodded her head and raced to the bathroom.

Peter jumped straight in the shower after she'd finished. Not knowing what else to do she quickly got dressed into a comfy blue cotton t-shirt and a matching pair of shorts. She felt incredibly under dressed and cursed Sally for not owning pyjamas that covered more of her.

With nothing else to do she started to clean up. The boys had caused quite a mess and Wendy had never been untidy. In a way she was thankful as it gave her something to occupy her thoughts. She was on edge at the idea of being left alone in Peter's company.

She was in the kitchen putting things away when Peter came back into the room.

'What are you doing?' He asked. Wendy's mouth immediately went dry. Peter was wearing a pair of green sweat pants and nothing else. One of his hands was using his towel to dry his hair, making it stick out. His eyebrow had raised as he waited for an answer.

'Wendy?'

Wendy jumped as she realised she'd been staring like a fool. She coughed loudly and then mortified, she realised what she was holding.

Dropping the small pan like it had burned her, she smiled sheepishly. Her cheeks bright red with embarrassment.

'I swear I was just tidying up.' She said hurriedly. Peter gave her a single nod and then threw his towel in the laundry bin by the side of his closet.

'It's late.' He said. 'We should get some sleep.' He flopped himself down on the bed and watched as she stood unsure of what to do. Assuming she'd sleep on the sofa, she silently made her way over to it.

'The bed is big enough for both of us.' It was a statement and Wendy knew it was command not a request. Hesitate, she walked over to the bed. Peter lifted the covers so she could climb under them. She held her breath as he leant over her to switch off the light. He brushed against her as he moved back and then he rolled over with his back to her.

He could hear his breathing level out and he was soon asleep. Wendy laid there wide awake, her heart racing.

OK I really struggled with this chapter because I set Peter up to be really mad at Wendy and we all know what he's capable of but I couldn't bring myself to have him hurt her, because he's already done so much to her and he's walking a very fine line for bad boyfriend material! So I hope this chapter works and you liked it? I also hope you liked the Wendy/Felix interaction.

Thank you as always to everyone who reviews, you guys mean so much to me.
