"She really takes long to settle and sleep" I said as I finally put her down on the crib "Was she always like this?" I asked Rebekah
"Yes, she was quite uncomfortable and cried a lot. At least in your arms she's really calm, you're lucky"
"Yeah I guess I am" I said with a sigh
"Hayley you're too young to fully understand how to be a mother, you won't just be perfect from the first day"
"I know, I know and I know I am doing my best but what if this affects her childhood?"
"Come on, you have no idea what an affected childhood is like, trust me" Rebekah snapped
"My mother always raised me with compassion and made sure my sister and I understood what we have and what being a normal child is. She protected us and also managed to make us independent. I want to be as good as she was"
"You won't" Rebekah said "You will be better"
I smiled and pulled her in for a hug. She was a good mood raiser.
"I will go see what Klaus is up to" I said with a smile "We haven't spoken much"
Rebekah cleared her throat and avoided looking into my eyes
"You think he's still mad at me?"
"I think you should give him some space so your relationship can heal properly. Just covering it up will only make it remain as a scab forever"
I nodded but I didn't agree. This issue had to be solved ASAP. I needed him to be by my side.
I knocked on his door and walked in. He wasn't inside. He must have been painting.
I went to his art room and walked in without a knock. He quickly threw a cloth on the painting he was busy with and stood up.
"You could knock" he snapped
"I thought we weren't strangers so it didn't matter"
"Nevertheless, it's unethical. How is Hope?"
"Hope is fine, she's sleeping. I came here to talk about us" I said as I bit my lip seductively
"Hayley I told you I would prefer it if we spoke of Hope for a while instead"
"Klaus its Christmas eve…I miss you"
He took a deep breath and turned his back to me. I wasn't going to give up so soon.
I embraced him from behind slid my hands into his sweater.
"I missed you Nik" I whispered again
"Come on, don't" he said as he walked away
I sped to his side and blocked his way
"Give me a chance to make amends" I said with a grin
"You toyed with me Hayley. You are lucky that I value you, I don't easily let things like this go without a punishment"
"Punish me then" I said joyfully "Teach me my lesson so I never play with you again"
"Hayley you may see this as a game once again but for me what you did was inexplicable, devastating and not easily forgivable"
"I was stupid"
"That you were" he said as he pushed me aside and walked out. It would be harder than I expected, apparently.
I went outside to find Damon, Elena and, quite unexpectedly, Kol sitting together and enjoying the sun.
"Hayley dear, come, sit" Kol said as he patted his lap "We were discussing how much I hated Elena"
I went and sat on his lap as usual. He was like my brother and we always ended up sitting this way.
"Kol I have an important problem. Klaus won't forgive me"
"Aww sunshine, that's so sad. My brother can be so stubborn at times" he said as he enjoyed his magazine which he now held with one hand.
"Help me win him back!" I yelled
"Wear something sexy and make all his dirty fantasies come true. That son of a gun must have really dirty ones though"
"Kol!" I said warningly "Do you honestly think I haven't thought of that yet?"
He laughed
"If I may" Damon interrupted "Why don't you pour him a nice drink and talk it out?"
"So mature" Kol commented "And boooooring"
"But that's what Klaus wants, no games, just a proper, respectful relationship"
"Since when?" Elena asked "God that guy can't make up his mind I swear"
"Stop acting like you know my brother you bitch" Kol said loudly "But she has a point"
"I think since, well, since Hope and since he began to believe that I don't take him seriously"
"But you do?" Damon asked
"Of course I do!"
"Do you feel it when the other one has sex?" Elena asked out of the blue
"Excuse me?" I asked
"You two are attached, do you feel the things the other feels when…"
"I haven't noticed…when was the last time you two…?" I asked
"Never since he returned because Damon thinks you might feel uncomfortable" Elena blurted out "You?"
"Not since Damon, no" I replied
"Well we need to find out" Elena said complainingly
"We need to severe this goddamn connection" Kol corrected
"True, but right now that's not what's important. You three need to help me prepare the perfect dinner for Klaus"
"And the perfect after plan" Kol added deviously
"Whatever, are you guys in?"
"What are you plotting over here?" Elijah asked as he came outside with Caroline
"A special plan for Klayley so he forgives her"
"Klayley?" I asked
"You do the maths" Kol replied
"Well we'll do our best to help. But before that Hayley, I should say that I was out with Marcel, dealing with the city so Klaus could stay with you and Hope, and I couldn't help but notice how much he misses being your best friend"
"Notice? He said it clearly and openly" Caroline corrected
"I'm sorry, we just drove apart"
"Yeah, that seat is taken" Kol said annoyingly
"Marcellus needs you this time Hayley, give him some of your time"
"We'll see" I snapped and stood up "Come on then best friend claimant, I need help!"
"Its just a drink jeez" Kol complained "Why do you need so many people"
"Cause someone has to take care of Hope with Rebekah, someone needs to help me find proper attire and someone needs to organize the living room. Oh and you two" I said as I pointed at Caroline and Elijah "Make some snacks as well"
They all nodded and separated into positions. Damon prepared the drinks, Elena helped out Rebekah and Kol helped me with the clothing.
"Sexier" he simply said after every try "Gosh Hayley you're trying to seduce him not talk to him about the perks of being a Christian"
"There is a child at home" I protested
"Who should be used to some cleavage by now!" he replied
I sighed
"I'm sorry, I know the whole breastfeeding issue is…hey why don't you try that black dress?"
"I don't know, it's too simple, maybe Rebekah has something?"
"Are you seriously going to seduce Klaus by wearing his sister's dress?" he asked and added with a high pitched voice "dramaaa"
"Stop it Kol!" I said furiously as I threw one of the dresses at him "Fine I'll try on the black one"
I wore it and it sat on perfectly. [It's the dress she wore to the Paley fest] It wasn't necessarily sexy, but it had just the enough amount of skin to have a mature conversation.
"Perfect. Just make sure you wear good underwear, if you know what I mean"
"Ok creepo" I snapped and grabbed him by the arm and walked him out the room so I could change more comfortably
"Oh Sunshine, why you gotta be so rude?"
I slammed the door on his face as I laughed
"I can hear you laugh. Argh I'm such a good friend, and then they call me reckless"
Once everything was ready I went to Hope's room and spent some time with her. Rebekah was right, she became so calm whenever I held her, almost as if she recognized me.
"I love my dear" I whispered to her ear "Let's hope daddy forgives me tonight"
I rocked her in my arms and kissed her one last time when I heard Klaus come out of his room. He came straight to his daughter's room and seemed startled to see me inside
"I thought she was alone" he commented "How is she doing?"
"She is absolutely amazing. Would you like to hold her?"
"If you don't mind" he said as he took his Hope from me.
He settled her on his chest and once they were both comfortable swayed his attention back towards me. He looked at me from head to toe with a raised eyebrow.
"Going somewhere love?" he asked
"I thought we could spend some time together, talk and discuss our issues"
"I'm not sure little wolf" he replied as he started walking around the room as Hope relaxed in his arms
"Klaus I prepared some drinks and snacks, we can sit and talk all night. Please just please give us a chance"
He smiled as he looked at my dress once again
"You look stunning" he noted
"She's falling asleep, you should put her in the crib. I'll wait for you in the living room"
He nodded and I went down. Everything looked perfect. I sat down and folded one leg on the other. He came down not long later and sat down by my side on the couch.
"Are you hungry?" I asked
"No, thank you" he replied
"Scotch then?" I asked with an innocent smile
"Sure, why not" he replied
I poured both of us a glass. He grabbed his and held it in his hands.
I took a deep breath and began talking. There was no point waiting.
"Klaus I am so sorry about what I did. You are right, I should have been less careless. It was immature and absolutely unacceptable…"
We talked for hours. He protested, I tried to apologise. Older arguments got brought up, voices were raised, but by the end he finally got softer.
"It's twelve" I said "Merry Christmas" I whispered as I got closer to his face
"Our first Christmas with our daughter" he said
I placed a soft kiss on his lips. He put a hand on my face and the other around my waist as he pulled me closer. We started making out. I extended my legs on his lap and he grabbed them and pulled, making me sit on his lap. He moved his kisses from my lips to my neck and to my open shoulders. He was about to go lower when suddenly the door slammed open.
"Sorry to intrude" Kol said "Happy to see the developments" he added
"What is it?" Klaus asked angrily, annoyed about the interruption
"Mikael is missing. He's not in the room. We need to find him before he does something dangerous" he explained
Klaus pushed me off and stood up.
"This is not funny" he yelled
"Klaus stay calm I'm sure he's around here somewhere" I tried to find excuses
"He found the chance and escaped. He will now wreak havoc"
"Klaus what do we do?" Elijah said breathlessly as he walked in, followed by Rebekah, Caroline, Damon and Elena "It's not safe"
"We spread out and look for him" I ordered "It's the only way"
They nodded. We each went a different direction except Rebekah, who stayed with Hope.
We looked around for hours and had no result. I decided it was smart to look around the house as well, so I quickly went back. After looking around I suddenly saw him, lurking behind a tree.
"Mikael!" I exclaimed as I used my super speed to reach and grab him "What is wrong with you"
"I didn't think you'd notice that I had left" he said complainingly "I wasn't doing anything wrong"
"I'm sure you weren't" I said sarcastically
"I was buying her a gift" he said suddenly
"Who?" I asked, bewildered
"Your daughter" he replied
I loosened my grip. Was he being serious?
"I stole some money from Rebekah's bag and went out secretly. I bought her a teddy bear"
A smile spread my face.
"Are you serious?" I asked
He showed the teddy bear he had in a bag
"Mikael…"
"It's Christmas, I'm trying to be a better grandparent than parent, given that she will be my only one"
"Davina did a wonder on you" I whispered "Klaus won't believe this. He'll be so emotional"
"It's not a big deal. Let's go back" he said and started going towards the house hurriedly. I watched him in amazement as I followed him.
Maybe Hope could have a normal life after all?
