The Doctor put his arms under his future self's and hoisted him off the bed. Jack helped him carry the unconscious man toward the bathroom.
"What are you going to do with him Doctor? Can you help him?" Rose asked, eyes pleading with him to say yes.
"My internal temperature is dangerously high. We've got to cool me off. We need to put him in the shower." The Doctor told Jack tersely.
"Will that make him better?" Rose followed them into the bathroom, watching anxiously as they sat the doctor in the tub and propped him up against the side.
The Doctor turned the shower knob and watched as the water rained down and drenched the other him. "Sorry friend," he said softly "I know I'm the one dressed for bathing."
The water plastered the comatose Doctor's hair to his head, and ran in rivers over his clothing, pooling around him.
"Is he going to be ok?" Rose asked.
"Jack, do me a favor, go check on that redhead. She seems like the wandering type." The Doctor said, ignoring Rose. Jack walked back into the other room, closing the bathroom door behind him.
"Doctor, tell me, is he going to be ok?" Rose demanded, grabbing the awake doctor by the arm in an attempt to turn him to face her.
"I don't know!" The Doctor snapped, jerking away from her. "Could you not touch me? That's what got us into this mess to begin with." He stepped away from her, crossed his arms over his bare chest, and stared broodingly at his future self.
Rose flinched, feeling his words like a punch to her gut. She fought back tears. "I'm sorry. I didn't know."
"Of course you didn't. Humans. So careless." The Doctor muttered to himself. He exhaled loudly, clenching fistfuls of his hair, and began to bang his forehead against the tiled wall.
"Stop that! What are you doing? Please stop. You're scaring me." Rose said, hysteria entering her voice.
"You're scaring me." The Doctor said quietly, face to the wall.
"What?" Rose choked out.
He laughed humorlessly. "You terrify me. You little pink and yellow ape. Just one tiny blip in the universe. And yet you've stolen both my hearts. You got me to break my own rules. I brought you here, something I never should have done. And now you'll be the death of me." He turned to face her finally, eyes full of emotion. "It's not your fault Rose. It's mine. You're just a child. And I am a very foolish old man."
"That's not true. It's nobody's fault. Things, terrible things, they just happen. It's chaos. That's life. You're going to get hurt. But when you find someone who makes this life worthwhile, well that's something. And that's you Doctor. You make my life worthwhile. And there is no way I am going to let you die. Not now. Not you. Not him. I've only got one heart. One life. And I want to spend that life with you. So we are going to save him. Do you understand me?"
Rose's impassioned speech brought a smile to The Doctor's face. He tilted his head to the side and looked at her admiringly. "Oh Rose...whatever have I done without you? I've been alone too long." He straightened with new purpose. "We're going to need some ginger beer."
Just then Jack opened the door, "Sorry to intrude guys, but we have a problem."
