36: Rage
(Ria's POV)
II sit on the window seat in my room, Ed Sheeran shutting the rest of the world out. I focus on the sketchpad propped up in my lap, smiling to myself as I drag my pencil over the page, random doodles covering the paper. Some sort of heavy metal song suddenly blares in my ear, making me roll my eyes. 'Dominic.'
Someone suddenly knocks on the door. Slipping my Dr. Dre's around my neck, I turn to the door, "Yeah?"
Renesmee slides in the room. I swing my legs over the edge of the bench, smiling, "Hey, Renie-girl!"
She smiles, her eyes lighting up. Running over to me, she jumps into my awaiting arms. Placing her on my hip, I watch as Ren shows me the outfits Rosalie had put her in. I grin when I see how much fun it was for her. "Very pretty, pequeña."
There's a sudden rustling outside that makes me look over my shoulder. Francesca and Kieran are back from patrol; it's time to start training.
Setting Ren down in my previous spot, I go to the closet. Shutting the door, I slip into gray sweatpants and a navy sports bra, twisting my hair back in a low bun.
I go back to my Bond, pulling on an oversized black hoodie and kneeling in front of her, "Are you going to be okay here, honey?"
She nods, hopping up. Kissing her forehead, I move past her, shoving the window open and jumping to the ground below. Landing lightly, I stand, walking over to my brother and sister. A hand suddenly comes to rest on my shoulder. I look up at Dom, reaching up to squeeze his arm. He looks at me carefully. "You okay?"
I smile halfheartedly, "Fine."
"Ria-"
I meet his gaze, "I'll be alright, Aarón."
He sighs, but wraps an arm around my shoulders, holding me tightly. I bite my lip, gripping his hand.
"C'mon," he says, motioning me to follow him, "lets see what you can do."
As he walks into the woods, I nod and race after him, my heart pounding with anxiety. Francesca meets my gaze as she sprints past me, her eyes full of anxiety and concern; I shake my head. She nods, but I can tell she's upset.
With a laugh, I leap onto her back, grinning at her surprise. She shakes her head, but smiles nonetheless. My Guardian puts her hands under my knees and breaks into a run. I let out a squeal, my hair breaking free of its band, my open jacket flying behind me.
"Hey!" Dom yells over the breeze. "That's cheating!"
I smile, sticking my tongue out at him. I yelp as I'm pulled off Frannie's back and thrown onto my brother's. A wicked grin lights up his face as I cling to his shoulders. "Dom!"
"Yes, little sister?"
"I almost died!"
I can feel him rolling his eyes, "You're immortal, 'Nettie."
"I can still die!"
Francesca's laugh rings in my ear, "I won't let you die, baby girl."
We're close to the training grounds now, I can hear the sounds of fighting: the sound of moving feet, heavy breathing. I gasp when I realize how developed my senses are.
Dom nudges me. "Cool, huh?"
I nod slowly, smiling as the breeze ruffles my hair. Suddenly, I freeze. "Wait. Who's going to be there?"
"The Cullens, the Denali Clan, the pack, the imprints-"
I suck in a breath, but my voice comes out in a whisper. "T-the imprints?"
"They wanted to see you-"
I slide down from Dom's back, threading my fingers through my hair. "Frannie...what if I loose control?"
The redhead pulls me with her. "Sweetie, your control is amazing. You won't hurt them, I know you won't."
"If it helps," Dom continues, "we'll stay with you."
Relief floods through me, "Thank you." I whisper, stepping between them. Francesca grips my hand and Dom wraps an arm around my shoulders.
I bite my lip, almost curling into Francesca's side when we enter the clearing. I whimper as I feel their gazes on me. "Sssh," she soothes, stroking my hair. "Hey, it's okay..."
I peek out from behind auburn curls to meet Nina's motherly hazel eyes. She gives me a gentle smile, much like she did when we first met. "We can wait if you're not comfortable-"
I shake my head, gaining my resolve. "If I don't now, I never will."
I hear a sharp intake of breath from across the field, making me look over at the pack. I send Kim a shy smile, giving a short wave.
She sits cross-legged on the grass, leaning against Jared's furry side. When she catches my eye, her mouth parts a little, but her smile is genuine.
Dom rests a hand on my arm, jerking his head toward the others. "Ready?"
I sigh, "Let's get this over with."
I nod at Nina, who returns it. I separate from my brother, going west. I can feel the river pulling me in that direction, my body tingling with anticipation. My pulse races as the cold spreads over my body, a feeling similar to pins and needles.
My eyes remain closed as Nina's voices rings through the still air.
"You know the rules: no spilled blood, no foul play. A fair fight, understood?"
I can feel myself nod. This feeling is so intense...
"Ready?"
I suck in a breath.
"Call!"
Blocking out any distraction, I drop to a crouch, pushing the sensations away from my body and feeling water appear at my sides. There's a soft gasp in front of me, but I remain still. The air around me is misty and cool, making my new body surge with energy. It builds and builds until I feel as if I'm going to explode.
"Commence!"
My eyes snap open. With a yell, I kick off the ground, launching myself into a backflip up and over Dominic's head. I land on the balls of my feet. Dodging Francesca's attacks, I head for Amelle, dragging ribbons of water behind me. As I get closer, her eyes suddenly snap open, flashing red. With a grunt, she soars into the air, sending a blinding flash my way. I let out a cry, wrenching back.
Strong arms twist my arms behind me, making me growl and thrash against the hold. I gasp as the weight is suddenly ripped away. My vision comes back slowly, just in time for me to whirl around and see Nik wrestling Kieran to the ground. A stupid grin stretches along his face as Kieran breaks out of the headlock, launching himself at the laughing Metal Angel.
I smile to myself before dancing out of Francesca's path. She misses me by a mere inch. A giggle escapes my lips as she turns in bewilderment, her hair like a wild flame around her face.
She charges at me once more, a slight smile on her lips. Again, I twirl past her, water copying my movement.
I spread my arms, willing the glistening liquid to fall away from my side and into my hand. It flies there readily, shaping itself into a dagger. With a grunt, I hurl it in Frannie's direction.
It flips through the air, aimed at the shoulder. It nears her, close enough to brush her skin-
And melts before my eyes.
I suck in a breath as she advances on me, flame licking at her hair. Water wraps around my body, attempting to protect me. I shape it into a shield, pushing it forward to keep the flames at bay. I grit my teeth as she pushes past my shield, feeling the unpleasant heat singe my skin.
"C'mon Jay..."
The whisper is faint, but it's enough. With a deep breath, I reach out for any available liquid around me, my body full of pins and needles as it follows my command. Breathing out slowly, I drop the shield and step away. Spreading my arms out, I tilt my head back, letting my eyes close.
Water rushes behind me, the roar of it pounding in my ears as it floods past my body and slams into my Guardian, sending her flying into Nina. As she leaps to her feet, I back away. Her eyes meet mine, flashing gold.
As she breaks into a sprint, I keep my gaze locked on hers, tensing my body as she launches at me. A snarl tears from my throat as my Guardian slams into me, throwing me to the ground with her hands at my neck and holding me to that spot. I desperately grab at her hands, attempting to loosen the grip. I choke and gasp for air. Black spots dance in my vision as I look into her eyes. Oh no.
She's lost control.
Flame surrounds us as I try to Call my water, rendering it useless. I cry out in frustration, but it comes out strained due to lack of air.
"FRANCESCA, STOP!"
The weight is yanked away, and I'm pulled up. Wrapping my arms around my aching body, I hunch over, sucking in desperately needed air. Dom pulls me against his shoulder, Calling air around him and guiding it into my lungs.
I'm suddenly released and pulled against a warm chest. Paul spins us so his back is to Francesca, becoming a shield. I relax against him, sighing in relief.
Suddenly, an all-too-familiar voice pipes up. "Hmm. No wonder you hide, the rest of your family are time bombs without a life, always out of control. How do you even know they care about you? All they care about is saving their own skins."
I tense at the exact moment Paul does, glancing around his large frame to look at the smirking face of Bella Swan.
"Your brother is worse, always a nuisance to everyone."
My heart races as I try to calm myself down. "Stop."
"And you."
My breathing quickens. I pull away from Paul, feeling him put restraining arms around my waist.
"You're always the weakling. They'd be better off without you, always desperate for help and protection. A burden is always welcome to be rid of."
I slide out of my wolf's arms. "Paul, love." I say slowly. "Back up, please."
Meeting Bella's gaze, I challenge her silently, rage surging through my veins. She accepts, a triumphant smirk on her face.
"No wonder your parents left you, I wouldn't want a burden for a child either."
I snap.
Cliffy! :)
