"Yeah of course." Catherine and Jackson headed to the kitchen. "Oh honey, you have ice cream on your lip." Catherine pointed out with her freshly manicured finger.
Jackson quickly wiped his mouth as he followed his mom into the kitchen. "All it would have taken was one phone call," he told her as he leaned against the counter.
"Jackson, sweetheart enough! Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I didn't think you'd care. You've known Rich for years. Besides its no secret we've acted like teens in the past; broken up to make up plenty of times."

''There's a big difference between simply getting back together and actually getting engaged,'' Jackson told her.
"Jackson, forgive me, I'm sorry. I really am. I'm just not sure what you want from me."
Jackson bit his lip, ''I don't know either,'' he told her honestly. ''I'm just... really disappointed, I guess. I thought I was more important to you than that.''

Catherine grabbed her son's face. "Jackson Norbert Avery, you are the most important man in my life. I promise. Richard knows that. I'm sorry I hurt you honey, I guess the excitement of having my own little secret got to me. It was thrilling, exciting. I had no intention of excluding you. I still don't. In fact Richard and I were wondering if you and April would be our matron of honor and best man. My little grand baby can be part of the wedding too, once he or she gets her of course."

Jackson bit his lip, ''I'm sure April would love that.'' He told her before turning on his heel and walked back into the living room.
"Hey we are just about to watch a movie. Want to come sit by me?" April moved over on the couch to make room for her husband.

Jackson threw one last glance over at his mother - she didn't look happy. He was sure it was because he had put the emphasize on that April would like to be matron of honor, excluding his own feelings. He didn't want to deal with her - not now, and not any time soon. He looked back at April, ''sure.''

"Babe, I'm not implying anything. I just find it funny that you're trying to seduce me when you know today is the day I go dress shopping with your mom."
''You can be fifteen minutes late, right?'' Jackson asked her as he softly kissed her neck. As long as April wasn't gushing about all the beautiful dresses his mom was trying on, he could keep pretending this wasn't happening.

"I could under one condition."
''Name it,'' Jackson told her as his hands found his way to the hem of her shirt.
"Come with me, to the dress shop." She kept her shirt down to not give him anymore access to her until he agreed.

Jackson chuckled as he leaned in to kiss her again, but was thrown off by the serious expression on her face. ''You are joking aren't you?'' He asked her.
"Does it look like I'm joking?" She asked as she separated herself from him and turned over.
''April, do you seriously believe that I want to watch my mother as she tried on dress after dress after dress?'' Jackson asked her. ''I mean, seriously?''

"I'd think you'd want to talk to her after three weeks. Please J, it's not like you'll be alone with her. I'm going too…"
''I don't want to talk to her,'' Jackson told her with a shrug. ''If she doesn't feel the need to include me in her life then that's fine, and I'm sure she won't be surprised when I don't include her in mine.''

"Jackson she does want to include you. You're just being too big of a jerk to see it. I have to go." April moved to the edge of the bed before he tried to gently pull her back in.
''April, this is something between my mother and I,'' Jackson told her, ''Why are you mad at me?''

"Because Jackson, this isn't just about the two of you anymore. We have a child on the way. A child who deserves grandparents, and sees a father setting a good example for them. "April's eyes and tone were softer as she lightly touched his face."Look Avery, if you can honestly tell me that you're okay not having a good relationship with your mom, then I'll leave it alone, but don't you think our child deserves a good one?"

Jackson swallowed hard. He wanted their child to have a better relationship with his mom than he ever had, but how could he be sure that she would always be there for her grandchild when she couldn't even be there for him? Their strained relationship had been painful to him and he didn't want his child to hurt the same way he had, but they at the very least deserved to get to know Catherine Avery, right? He looked deep into April's eyes as he made up his mind, ''I'll go with you,'' he said quietly.

"Babe, we are way more than 15 minutes late. Your mom is going to kill us. Come on!'' April dragged her husband into the bridal shop.
Jackson groaned as the door closed behind them. He was still not crazy about spending a rare afternoon off in a bridal store. ''Hey,'' he greeted his mother who was sitting on the other side of the shop, judging by the look on her face she had been waiting impatiently for them to show up.

"Must have been a lot of traffic. 45 Minutes worth." Catherine tapped her watch before giving them each a kiss on the cheek.
''Yeah, traffic was horrible,'' Jackson lied as he shot April a look. ''Have you looked at any dresses yet?'' He asked his mother.
"Nope wanted my matron of honor to help me. Jackson, you can come too."

''Can't wait,'' Jackson commented as they started making their way around the store to look at different dresses.
April shot Jackson a stern look. "Catherine that peach dress with the pink roses looks pretty,'' she told her mother in law as she pointed at the dress. ''Try that one on.''
''Aren't you supposed to wear white on your wedding day?'' Jackson asked April as Catherine disappeared into the changing room with one of the bridal consultants.

"Jackson that's only if you're a virgin." April whispered as she tried not to giggle
Jackson looked at her unimpressed, ''right. Every bride today wearing white is a virgin,'' he told her.
"If you count the vow renewal, I was." April giggled trying to lighten up the mood.

Jackson smiled at her before turning around when his mother stepped out of the dressing room, ''wow,'' he said as he stood up amazed. The dress seemed to fit her really well.
"It's not too much? I feel like I'm going to trip or something." She hurried back into the dressing room to change.

Jackson looked at April with a half smile, ''I thought it looked good,'' he told her. His mother caught his attention again when she came out of the dressing room- still in the same dress but now on the phone and freaking out.
"Richard he's. ..He's been in an accident." She said with no expression on her face, too in shock to feel much of anything.

''What happened?'' Jackson asked as both he and April rushed over to Catherine and helped her sit down.
"He was on his way here to the bridal shop. Apparently he was hit by an intoxicated driver... There's massive facial trauma and he's not responding. I-" Before she could finish her sentence, Jackson interrupted her.

''Is that your pager or mine?'' He asked April as he looked over at their stuff.
"Yours.'' She told him before a though popped into her head: ''you don't think it's Webber's case do you?" April asked in a concerned tone.
''Probably not, we're not allowed to treat family and he's practically my step father,'' Jackson told her as he grabbed his pager. ''It just says ER, not which patient.''

"You better go, take the car. I'll drive your mother in her car." April said pressing the keys in his palm.
