I stayed in the Oval with Fitz, helping him sober up. I kept giving him glasses of water to drink. Drinking strong coffee to sober up is a myth. Coffee has caffeine, and caffeine is a stimulant. Coffee and alcohol both dehydrate, that being said, caffeine does not absorb alcohol from the body. The best way to sober up was to let the alcohol work its way of the body on its own. Water was the best thing to drink to aid in the process of sobriety.
It was early, a quarter 'til five in the morning. When we opened the door to the Residence, we saw Tom asleep, in a chair next to the bed where Ella lay sleeping.
"Tom?" I whisper shaking him gently. He stirred awake slowly, and let out a yawn. "Ms. Pope," he whispered in response, quietly getting up from the chair. I smiled at him. "What did I tell you before, about addressing me so formally? I told you, you can call me Olivia," I scold him lightly. "I am sorry. It's become a habit, I suppose, calling you by your last name. It will take some getting used to," he said quietly.
"It's alright, I understand. I just wanted to thank you for looking after Ella. The President and I appreciate it. Now that we're back, you can finally go home and get some rest," I say. "It's no trouble at all," Tom says politely.
