Note: Not the best story ever, but I really wish there had been a scene like this in the episode. As the only other person (that we know of) cured of vampirism, I would have liked to see an interaction between the two, especially with the Mark and all messing with Dean.

Disclaimer: Supernatural doesn't belong to me.

The Cure

He shut the door as quickly and quietly as he could, not missing the hiss of pain from the girl as the room was plunged once more into darkness. As his eyes grew accustomed to the dark, he was able to make out the teenager huddled on the bed, clutching the pillow for dear life as her red eyes followed his every move.

"What do you want?"

"Just thought I'd check and see how you're doing." Dean leaned against the wall, crossing his arms as he studied her, suddenly feeling awkward and out of place. "I know the cure ain't fun."

'How?" Alex asked, turning her tired head to fully face the hunter warily, as if ready to jump the moment he made a move.

"Experience." Dean shrugged as if it was no big deal.

"You were turned?" The girl eyed him disbelieving, a hint of interest behind her gaze.

Dean nodded. "Four, five years ago now? Can't really remember, but it's how come we know about the cure, lucky for you. Old family recipe."

She thought over that for a moment, before asking the hard question.

"Sam let you get turned?"

"Sam was…Sam wasn't there." Dean replied, pushing the memories back. Uncomfortable, he straightened and stepped toward the door. "I'll let you get back to resting."

"Dean." She called, stopping him before he could open the door. "Why didn't you kill me?"

He didn't reply for a moment, the Mark pulsing on his arm as he thought back to the moment he realized she had been turned, that the girl Jody was so fond of was a monster. He had wanted to kill her—heck, part of him still wanted to kill her—but that wasn't what Sam would have wanted. He had already almost lost brother over one mistake, he wasn't about to lose him completely over some kid. But he couldn't tell her that. How could she understand? He turned back to face her, hand on the door.

"You ever seen Jody angry?" Alex shook her head and he forced a grin. "Trust me, kid, you don't wanna. Now get some rest."
