Chapter 36: Sinestro and the Yellow Lanterns
-Yellow Lanterns' Camp-
Far from the Indigo Tribe's village, the Yellow Lanterns were in their camp, minding their own business. Some were guarding the camp, some were training, others were eating or even resting. Also, there were some Biogons patrolling the area, though their alliance with the lanterns were not exactly tight. In fact, they despise each other since they usually give and/or receive glares from one another.
Looking out from above a ledge was their leader, who was no other than Thaal Sinestro, a former Green Lantern. Now, he has a yellow lantern ring and uniform besides his GL one. He waited for his scouts and general to arrive with news.
Next to him was Drago, leader of the Biogons. He, however, waited impatiently, digging his claws into the ground.
"Those slow lanterns, where are they?!" Drago growled.
"They'll come," Sinestro spoke calmly. "No need to be frustrated."
Fortunately for them, Arkillo and his group has returned, along with some surviving Biogons from the ambush. He walked towards his leader. "Sinestro, we've returned with news."
"Took you long enough," Drago snorted.
"Did you find anything?" Sinestro asked once he stood up.
"We've stumbled on to their own patrol," Arkillo said with a grin. "It seemed that they were not expecting an ambush from us and to see the Biogons in the flesh has filled their hearts with fear."
"Tell me, was their leader with them?" Sinestro curiously wondered.
"No, sir. It was only a few soldiers. One of them was leading the patrol. He...he did not agree to your offer, despite our threats."
"Hmm." Sinestro was in deep thought about this situation. Drago was not pleased about this. If there's one thing he hated the most is an enemy who would foolishly oppose to them. "It seems that these lanterns will not be pushovers. We have ourselves a strong enemy to oppose."
Drago then jumped down towards his pack and spoke to one of them. "Tell me, did you fought them?"
"We've attacked them, Drago, after these Yellow Lanterns baited them and fled," one Biogon answered. "The indigo lanterns had retreated, but the fight was not won at ease."
Arkillo agreed to the Biogon. "The indigo lantern I was fighting with clearly knew his stuff well. He was their leader at the time and believe me, he was a pain!" He growled as he recalled his fight with Raheem.
"The male lantern I was fighting with was a nasty little lizard," another Biogon growled as he remembered fighting against Kelo. "He practically finished off many of our best warriors. I hope that gash in his chest would let him bleed slowly, painfully to death. It'll be the least he deserves."
"Nevertheless, we did finished three of them off," the third Biogon answered. "It could have been more, if they hadn't had any help."
"Help? What do you mean 'help'?" Sinestro arched an eyebrow in curiosity.
"If I may be so bold, I have some bit of news that may come a bit of a shock."
"What is it, then?" Drago pushes on for answers.
"The indigo lanterns have allies. There was a Red Lantern with them, though for some reason, he froze at the sight of us. There was also a Terragonian lantern and a boy with them. We fought them, but they escaped."
"You what?!" Drago yelled.
"Did you say a boy and a Terragonian lantern?" Sinestro asked. "The Green lanterns are here?"
"Yes. He was a green dragon at the time and the boy looked like him."
"So...if Avian is here, then so is Hal Jordan and his crew," Sinestro said while stroking his chin.
Drago snarled and scratched at one of his warriors' face. "You complete moron! All of our problems could have been solved with the deaths of the Terragonians and you didn't finish them off! Though Darkheart needed them alive to see them suffer, their deaths were also acceptable!"
"We've tried, Drago! It wasn't our fault!"
"Enough!" Sinestro commanded. The others flinched at his voice. "If the Green Lanterns are here, then all we need is a little persuasion to make them leave. We're going to the tribe!"
"But what about the lanterns?" Arkillo wondered.
"They have seen our might and the Biogons. They must have their bodies filled with fear. They wouldn't dare to attack us. All I need is three Biogons and a couple of lanterns." Then three Biogons joined Sinestro and two yellow lanterns as well. And they flew off towards the village as Arkillo and Drago stayed behind.
"Okay, this should do it." Gin wrapped Koren's foot with a bandage due to the cut he received from the trap. "How does it feel?"
Koren moved his foot sideways to check its condition. "Better. Thanks, Gin."
"You're welcome. I better go back to the village. See you." Gin left the crew's tent to join the tribe to pay respects for their comrades.
There was silence inside the tent. The crew were deep in thought about what happened last night. It was later broken when Avian scolded Koren.
"What were you thinking, Koren? Sneaking out at night and charging into battle alone with no knowledge of the enemy you were facing?!"
"I wasn't alone! Raheem and the others were there and Razer, too," Koren added.
"You were lucky I searched for both of you when you weren't in bed. What if I haven't gotten there in time? You could've been..." Avian didn't finished the sentence as he could see Koren feeling guilty from his actions. "And you, Razer. Why didn't you summoned our help?" Razer only stayed quiet. "Also, when I tell you to run, you RUN! Never let yourself freeze like that! EVER!"
Razer cringed a little from Avian's outburst. He didn't admit that he felt fear when he saw the creatures that attacked him before. "I'm sorry," he mumbled which only Avian heard.
Avian sighed. "At least, you're both alright. That's all that matters."
"So, now what?" Kilowog asked.
"We go with what we've already planned: continue our mission to stop the Anti-monitor," Hal reminded them.
"True. But that was before I realized that there were Biogons here," Avian spoke. "This changes everything, Hal. Biogons are just as dangerous as the Mantadors."
"You have fought them before, haven't you, Avian?" Aya asked.
"More than you know. You may not understand since you haven't seen them in your own eyes, but I must warn you now, these beasts are not to take lightly," Avian said, thinking about the monstrous creatures they've faced. "Biogons are wild dragon-like beings from my planet who roam in packs, hunting down any poor creature who crosses their path. It is said they can ravage a land so thoroughly that even the grass and trees perish. They don't care if they take more than they could eat or if they wipe out an entire species. They hunt for the thrill of the sport and are a threat to anyone. A pack as big as we saw that night is nothing less than a whirlwind of doom."
"These people have no chance against them!" Razer exclaimed. "The yellow lanterns are hard enough, but to face those monsters..." Razer shuddered silently at the thought of the Biogons. "They wouldn't survive."
"And how are we going to do that? We don't even know if the Yellow lanterns are working alongside these Biogons," Kilowog argued. "I say that we pack up and leave before it gets worse."
As the lanterns argued on what should they do now that the situation had risen up, Koren walked out of the tent and walked to the village.
He heard many indigo members talking about the enemy. Others were still in silent respect as they honored their losses. Koren sighed, feeling bad for them. It wasn't long until he saw Raheem sitting on a rock alone. He walked towards him silently.
"How are you feeling, Raheem?"
"Hey, Koren. It seems that I managed to find the compassion in my heart, but at what cost? Kelo, Sando, and Rigo are gone and our enemies have escaped."
"I'm sorry for your loss. Really I am," Koren sadly consoled him and sighed. "Raheem, I really want to help you and your tribe, but...it's not up to me. We have something to do out there and we can't stay here."
"I understand. We are not official Green Lantern business," Raheem sighed in defeat. "And I would hate to risk any more innocent lives."
Before Koren could explain more, both of them heard the village alarm, alerting them.
"What's happening?"
"They're here. The Yellow lanterns," Raheem said grimly.
Both of them headed towards the GL tent to meet with the others. From there, they saw the three yellow lanterns and three Biogons heading towards the village.
"They must not know that you're all here," Raheem said. Luckily he found some clothes hanging in a laundry wire and grabbed them. "Take these." He gave the clothes to Koren and Avian. "The rest of you must hide!"
"Kilowog, take Razer and Aya with you and keep out of sight," Hal ordered. "I'll stay with Avian and Koren."
All the Indigo tribe members gathered to the village center with Indigo-1 and Munk waiting to receive their "visitors". Hal hid in the crowd with Avian and Koren while the others hid in the trees not far from them.
The yellow lanterns landed in front of them with Sinestro in the lead. "Indigo-1, nice to see us, isn't it?"
Hal and Avian were shocked to see Sinestro again, only this time he wasn't the same guy they met some time ago. "Sinestro? What's he doing here? And with those guys?!" Avian whispered.
"No, there must be a mistake here." Hal was shocked to the bone. He was having trouble taking all he has seen right now. "This has to be a joke! Sinestro is headstrong and sometimes, a loose cannon, but a yellow lantern?"
"Shh," Koren hushed. "Let's listen."
"Sinestro, I thought I made myself clear: You are not welcome in this village," Indigo-1 sternly said.
"Must we all greet with hostility?" Sinestro said with a mocked hurt feeling. "I simply came to talk in a behaved manner, leader to leader."
The crew couldn't believe their ears. Sinestro was the leader of the whole Yellow Lantern corps?
"Then why bother bringing more of you?" Munk questioned.
"Witnesses. Is there a problem with that?" Sinestro asked.
"Considering that your yellow lanterns attacked my members frequently, stole our food, and now, they had murdered three of my fine warriors," Indigo-1 glared. "Understand, Sinestro, we are extremely hesitant of anything you will say to us. You are followed by murderers of the innocent!"
"You better watch what you say to our leader!" One lantern threatened.
"Or what?" Raheem growled. "She's only speaks the truth, you yellow monster!"
"Raheem, shut it!" Gin whispered to him. "These guys aren't messing around!"
"Looks like that indigo warrior matches the description Arkillo gave us," The other lantern spoke to Sinestro referring to Raheem.
"Kindly keep your mouth silenced, boy! We do not wish a blood bath without reason," Sinestro ordered Raheem.
"Then what's your reason in being here?" Indigo-1 asks. "Because I seriously doubt it is for a peace treaty."
"You see, some of my men alerted me that you've been harboring outsiders here. Apparently, the ones that are wearing green to be precised."
"Outsiders?" Indigo-1 faked her confusion. "I know nothing of these outsiders." Her answer made some of the intruders tightened their fists and gritted their teeth. "But even if we did know, I'm sure they would not want to meet you personally."
"I agree. They'll probably leave because of your filthy stench from either you or your scaly pets!" Raheem taunted.
"Bite your tongue, runt, unless we bit it off for backchat!" A Biogon threatened him.
"You will not speak to my members like this!" Indigo-1 stomped her staff angrily. "Who do you think we are? If you think you could scare us into leaving our home, Sinestro, you are dead wrong! The indigo warriors stay! We will not be bullied into leaving by a bunch of scrounging vermin!"
"You are making a mistake, Indigo! We will not tolerate 'no' for an answer!" Sinestro growled.
"How about 'no compensating way'?!" Raheem talked back. Sinestro snarled and slapped Raheem down with his ring construct.
Indigo-1 ran to his side. The indigo members gasped in fear of their enemy. However, the crew could only glare in anger at the scene, but they knew they had to control themselves from revealing their location.
"How dare you!" Indigo-1 angrily shouted. "You're no leader! You're a coward!"
"I am, now?" Sinestro then grabbed Indigo-1 with his yellow ring in a tight grip and held her up for the tribe to see. "Let's see how brave your people are when their leader is helpless!" He made his statement by tightening his grip, squeezing her.
"AAAHHH!" She yelled in pain. The indigo lanterns could only bow down to their enemies in fear for their leader. Sinestro chuckled in their action. However, he saw that only a couple kept standing.
"Who are you?"
"We are not part of the Indigo tribe," Avian said.
"But we can do this!" Koren picked a sharp stone and manages to it on Sinestro's forehead, making him drop Indigo-1 as he grabbed his forehead in pain. His face had a deep cut which blood came slighting dripping down.
Hal appeared out of nowhere and charges at Sinestro, but was quickly grabbed by another lantern. Sinestro recovered and fire his yellow energy at Hal, giving him extreme pain from the blast.
"HAL!" Avian charges forward, only for a Biogon to slap him away with his tail.
"So, you have been harboring the Green Lanterns all along!" Sinestro growled as he threw Hal. "Not only that, you took our offer and spit it out like it was trash! You leave no other choice! Yellow Lanterns, ATTACK!"
Sinestro's group attacked head on. "Defend the tribe, everyone!" Hal ordered in which Kilowog, Aya, Razer, Avian and Koren charged into battle.
Aya fired her lasers at the yellow lanterns. The lanterns dodged her attack and swatted her with blade constructs, sending her crashing into a house.
Razer fires his red ring blasts at the yellow lanterns, only to be stopped by the Biogon's dark energy beams as he dodges them.
Avian came to Razer's rescue as he counterattack them. He fought against one Biogon alone while the other challenged Razer. Koren grabs a stone and absorbs its element and then jumps onto the Biogon's back, punching it with his stone hand. "I can't make a dent on them. He's solid!"
"Perhaps on the top." Avian looked down on the Biogon's stomach area where there was no armor. "But maybe not on the bottom!" He then make a sword construct and stabbed the Biogon in the chest area. The beast roared as he bled from the injury before falling down dead.
Avian panted and turned to see Kilowog going head to head with another Biogon. "The abdomen, Kilowog! It's their weak spot!"
"What?" Kilowog didn't get the message.
"The torso. Chest! BELLY!" Avian described while pointing to his chest.
"Oh, their guts!" Kilowog finally realized what he meant. "Why didn't you say so?" He then made his hammer construct which sends it flying while Avian fired his arrow construct in his chest.
"One down, one to go."
Razer was busy with the last Biogon. He was having a hard time since this is the first time battling such a beast. The Biogon swatted Razer with the tail and held him down. But before the beast could finish the job, Koren tackled him with his red energy strength. He then grabbed his tail and swung him towards a tree, where it had a sharp branch sticking out. The stick impaled the last Biogon once it landed.
"Thanks," Razer said as Koren offers him a hand and helped him get up.
"Anytime," He answered and faces the three yellow lanterns. "Now it's a fair fight."
Hal faced his former mentor head on. "How could you do this, Sinestro? You're a green lantern!"
"You must be color-blind because I'm not a GL anymore! I wanted a stronger power and the Green lantern Corps couldn't give me enough of it. I wanted a power that would put fear into the bones of my enemies." He then fired his yellow ring at Hal. Hal made a shield but it was quickly destroyed by Sinestro. "Fear is power."
"You forgot one thing, Sinestro," Avian shouted while wielding a green BO-staff. "You're outnumbered!" Kilowog, Aya, Razer, and Koren joined his side.
"It is on!" Kilowog said, holding his hammer.
The five crew member charges towards the yellow lanterns. Sinestro only chuckled as he and the other two lantern with him fire their yellow energy beams at them, engulfing them in a full blast.
"AAAHHH!" The five yelled in agony, and unbeknownst to the GL's, their green rings have been sucked dry, all of it. Aya had suffered the most that it had shut down her systems.
"AYA!" Koren yelled. They became worried for their friend. But now, they stood in front of her, attempting to defend her from Sinestro, who landed in front of them.
"You have no power and yet, you still defy me? Stubborn as usual."
Sinestro attempts to attack. But suddenly, Raheem, Indigo-1, and all the indigo members stood defiantly in front of the GL's, glaring while holding their staffs in defensive position. Even Avian and Koren morphed into their dragon form and growled at them.
Sinestro and the lanterns now know that they are truly outnumbered. "This isn't over! We'll be back at the next sunrise and we'll attack with full force should you remain!" Sinestro made his threat clear and retreated with the other YL's.
"No constructs!" Kilowog said while attempting to make a construct with his ring, but nothing came out.
"They drained our rings dry!" Avian exclaimed.
"Oh no! Aya!" Koren cried when Aya was unresponsive.
"Her entire system is in complete shutdown," Hal explained.
"We got to help her!" Razer said as he held her body.
"It won't matter now," Raheem solemnly said while approaching them with Indigo-1. "They'll be back and stronger than ever."
"If we stay here any longer, no one would be safe," Indigo-1 said, while they at looked each other with worry.
What would they do now?
Hope u like it!
