Chapter 35

Jace's POV

All I had to do now was get some information from Clary about her artwork. Once I had done that, I needed to give the information to Emil at the New York Art Museum and then Clary's artwork would soon be displayed in the museum for everyone to see and therefore, one of Clary's biggest dreams would come true.

It was Sunday now and I was sitting in Clary's room, trying to figure out how to get some information out of her. I suddenly got an idea.

"Hey Clary," I said, watching her sketch in her sketchbook.

"Yeah?" she replied, not lifting her eyes from the paper.

"I've only ever seen you sketch... and I've only seen a few of your drawings... do you paint or make sculptures or something?" I asked. "Or do you only draw?"

"I paint as well... and I've tried sculpting but I suck at it," she replied, setting her sketchbook and pencil down on her mattress. "I can show you some paintings if you want..."

I smiled. "I'd like that," I said.

"They're in the wardrobe... it might be a bit hard for me to get them out though... you can go have a look," Clary said, pointing at her wardrobe.

I got off her bed and walked over to the wardrobe and opened it.

Sure enough, her paintings were still there. I reached down and pulled out the one she had painted of New York City. "Is this the view from your window?" I asked, showing her the painting I had picked up.

"Yeah... I painted it after I had been here for a week or so... while you still seemed to hate me," she said.

I flinched slightly at the memory and put the canvas down, reaching in for another one.

I would ask questions about each of them, seeming interested – and I was, but I needed information on only one painting really.

I finally got to Clary's painting that she had titled 'The Glass City' and I picked it up.

The canvas was at least up to my waist and I held it up. "This is amazing," I said. "I've honestly never seen anywhere like this... is it a place you visited or something? Does this actually exist?" I asked, walking over to the bed and carefully placing the canvas down.

"No... it's a place I dreamed of once. It's kind of part of a collection I guess... I mean, I've done more paintings similar to this one... like I've done one that expands this way," she said, gesturing to the right side of the painting. "And I did another one that's a closer version of the city."

"Amazing... do you have them here?" I asked.

"No," Clary replied. "They're at home."

"I see... so what's it called?"

"The Glass City... that's what this is," Clary said, pointing to the city in the distance. "Because of these spires... they're made from something like glass... it's a place I would love to live in, if it were real... it's actually something I want more people to see... something that I hope I will display in a museum or something one day" she continued.

"Amazing..." I said. "It's a beautiful painting Clary," I said.

"Thanks," Clary replied, blushing slightly.

I kissed her cheek and stood up to put away the paintings.

"You really need to show me more of your artwork one day," I said. "I love seeing things your passionate about."

Clary smiled up at me. "Well... you need to show me how you play the piano. I honestly believe I've never heard you play," she said.

"Huh... are you sure I've never played for you?" I asked.

"I'm sure," she replied.

"Well then... I will just have to show you one day won't I?" I said with a smile.

"Not today?" Clary asked, a slight note of disappointment in her voice.

"I don't really have time today... tomorrow afternoon. I promise," I said.

Clary smiled again. "Alright then. I can't wait for tomorrow afternoon," she said.

I smiled back at her and watched as she once again lost herself in the drawing she was creating.

Another staff member at the museum led me to Emil's office. I didn't know who they were but they were kind nonetheless.

"Hello again," Emil said when I stepped into his office.

"Hi Emil," I said. "I have some information on that painting... what exactly did you need to know?"

Emil rummaged through some papers on his desk and handed me a piece. "I probably should have given this to you yesterday but I forgot. These questions need to be answered before a piece can be displayed.

"Alright," I said, looking at the piece of paper as Emil handed me a pen.

I sat placed the piece of paper on the desk and started filling it out.

Artist's Name: Clary Fray

Artwork Name: The Glass City

Artwork Background/Information: The Glass City is a place the artist dreamed of once and wishes to live in, if the place were real. It is named The Glass City because of the spires that surround the city; they are made from a glass-like material. There are other pieces of artwork similar to this one – other pieces of art showing more of The Glass City and its surroundings.

Once I had filled out the piece of paper, I handed it back to Emil who quickly read over it.

"Thank you," he said. "We can get a plaque made for the artwork now... it will take a little while to be prepared... but we should be ready to display the artwork on April 6," he said.

"During spring break... sounds perfect," I said.

"I will need the painting by April 2 though so we can make sure it is ready to be displayed and so we can make sure we have it. We can't technically display something we don't have," Emil said.

I nodded once. That means the painting would be gone for four days. Hopefully Clary wouldn't notice.

"That will be all then. I shall see you again when you drop off the painting," Emil said.

I nodded again. "Thank you Emil. Enjoy the rest of your day," I said as I left with a smile on my face.

Little did Clary know that in merely a month, one of her biggest dreams would be coming true.
