Raven let the shower pour over her body, washing away the blood, sweat, dirt, and tears from the past week. She sighed in contentment as the hot water rained against the back of her neck and ran down her back. She scrubbed at her body watching the pink and gray water swirl down the drain. Meanwhile, Starfire sat on the lid of the toilet patiently reading a magazine and humming a song as her friend cleaned herself.

Raven looked at the pale skin on her arms, completely unmarked, as if none of those terrible things had happened to her. She turned around and let the water assault her face, washing away the memories, the water dripping off her cheeks and wet lips. As soon as she closed her eyes, she saw the flashes of light and the never-ending sky. She gasped and stumbled backwards.

"Friend Raven, are you okay in there?"

"Umm yeah. Just slipped..."

Not this game again.

"I...I was having flashbacks of what happened earlier. Just scared me a little I guess."

She felt the alien girl's concern, but even more so, surprise at her admittance.

"You are safe now friend. Do not be afraid any longer."

Raven paused as the sound of ripping flesh and screams faded in and out of her mind.

"Yeah."

The morning light had crept into the tower, barely illuminating the kitchen. Freshly showered, Raven sat at the table with the rest of the Titans. Her fork clanged against her plate as she ate her food ravenously. As a half-demon, she didn't need to eat as much food as a normal human but she was still starving from not being fed for over a week. She paused after her first bite of the eggs and said, "These aren't real eggs."

Beast Boy smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck, "Sorry 'bout that. We were out of the real kind so I used mine."

She smiled at him and said, "I like them. They're pretty good," and then abruptly shoveled them into her mouth.

Robin settled for a cup of coffee, the image of his weapon of choice shooting through Raven's chest preventing him from filling his own plate. However, he watched the girl eat with a small smile on his face, relieved that her shower had made her look significantly healthier and more alive. Cyborg laughed and added a plate of bacon to the table,

"You must be hungry if you like that crap."

Raven shrugged and grabbed a piece of bacon, "It's been over a week. They didn't exactly have any meal options at Hotel Hell."

She felt the room become tense and immediately cursed herself.

"Nothing? For over 10 days?" The robotic man asked. She felt his anger more than she heard it in his voice.

"I'm half-demon. I don't need food as much as you guys. So that's more like 3 days," she replied hoping to calm their concern and anger.

"When's the last time you had water?"

She looked up across the table at her leader's question and looked back down into her mug of tea as she answered,

"5 days."

Robin's brow furrowed as a frown set on his face.

"Sleep?"

She didn't answer.

"Raven..."

"I don't remember, okay? The only time I dared to close my eyes was when I passed out or when I died."

Raven felt Robin's worry and anger practically pounding against her empathy. She felt in her bond that he felt sick thinking about her situation, but she knew he'd continue his questioning. Knowing his intentions, Raven pushed away her empty plate,

"Alright. Ask away."

As the table began to clear of their plates, the Titans sat around, waiting for answers.

"Before we start this," she started slowly, "there may be questions I won't answer. There are things I rather forget and things I don't want you to hear."

Robin felt the knot in his stomach tighten at her words, fearing for her, but he nodded his head in understanding, "Of course."

"First off, I'm sorry I left you guys the way I did. I was terrified. Azar, I was so scared for you guys. For myself. I really believed I was beyond help."A hand rested on hers, and she looked up into the owner's mechanical and human eyes.

"All is forgiven, Rae."

She nodded and swallowed down her tears, "How did you guys find me?"

The empath felt the team tense again and saw their not-so-subtle looks at each heard Beast Boy growl the name.

"Mimic."

Raven only paused for a split second before letting out a humorless laugh, "Mimic? That trigger-happy lizard? Who would've thought?"

She saw Robin visibly wince at the memory of her first death. He quickly recovered, but his emotions hung thick in the air.

The rest of the hour, she answered their questions, leaving her friends more or less disturbed. When answering questions that she knew would upset the others, she would pick at the stubborn blood and dirt under her nails, wanting to avoid the fear and anger on their faces; for she already felt it press tightly against her empathy. She looked up from her nails and at the masked boy across from her,

"Robin, I want to learn some more hand-to-hand combat. You know, just in case."

Immediately, Robin nodded, expressing his surprise for only a split second, "That's a good idea. I'd be happy to help you."

He offered her a genuine Robin smile, the one that made her stomach flutter and the blood rush to her face. Suddenly, she decided her nails needed more studying.

"But Rae, you're already pretty good at fighting," Beast Boy thought aloud. Before Robin could say anything, Raven slammed her hands on the table. Her voice almost angry,

"Obviously not if I got my ass handed to me by Slade."

The plates and bowls in the counters shook and their disturber buried her face in her hands, fingers muffling her mantra until it became repeated apologies.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry."

Beast Boy wrapped his arms around the girl, mumbling calming words into her violet hair until she gained control. He looked up into his leader's masked eyes communicating his concern and uncertainty. Raven felt his apology before he said it so she interrupted the changeling,

"No BB don't be sorry. I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at myself because I found myself in a helpless situation. Slade beat the shit out of me and the only thing I could hit was the ground."

Robin's expression darkened, remembering the state he found her in on the stairs. He knew Slade was responsible and he felt sick knowing that the only reason his enemy had attacked her so brutally was because of her ties to him.

Feeling the Boy Wonder's heavy guilt, Raven pulled him back from his dark thoughts,"So it's settled. You'll train me."

Raven's hands grabbed her hood and pulled it up, shadowing her face, and leaned back in her seat.
Only her mouth was visible as she spoke, "Now to address the elephant in the room... Beast Boy don't you even think about shifting...you are all wondering how I am alive. You are grateful, but you are confused, curious."

Her team stared back at her, their surprise at her correct observation apparent on their faces. She gave a small smile and tapped her temple with one finger,

"Empath, remember?"

She cleared her throat and kept her hood up to hide her shame, an emotion she always felt when addressing her demonic heritage.

"It became clear to me after I...resurfaced from my demonic side," she cringed, remembering her thirst for blood and fear, "The battle between angels and demons has been going on since the beginning of time. Both are set on destroying the other. Angels cannot kill demons. 'Thou shall not kill", right?' Instead, they drive them back to hell. When the Seraph stabbed me, it pierced my heart and killed me. The human part of me. My demon part, however, was not defeated. After all, it was not forced back into hell. The Seraph was a fool, killing the human part of me, for he created a pure demon. Now if he was still an angel of God," she paused until her tongue stopped burning, "he could've easily defeated me. Instead he was a fallen angel, weak, and therefore I was able to kill him. Now demons can kill angels, we...they have no rules. And when they kill them, they take a bit of their angelic power. That power is what brought me back to life, for only one person can resurrect the dead..."

"God," Robin whispered in awe. The other Titans sat silently amazed, staring at Raven. None of them were particularly religious, but they had seen a divine miracle in front of their very eyes.

"Awake thou that sleepest, arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light," she quoted quietly. Robin felt a shill erupt from his spine.

The room resumed its silence as the sun finished its stretch across the sky and completely illuminated the room in a radiant glow. The Boy Wonder stared at the hooded girl, the sun kissing her lips and delicate skin. Suddenly, he found himself very jealous of the ball of fire in the sky. Despite her eyes being hidden from his view, he knew she was looking at him back.

"That," Beast Boy began, breaking the silence, "is possibly the coolest thing I've ever heard."

Raven stood up from her chair soundlessly. Her body begged for sleep but her mind begged for meditation.

"I'm going to my room to rest."

She walked towards the door but their feelings of uncertainty made her feet feel like lead. She stopped at its entrance and looked back at her team and their worried faces.

"I'll leave my door open just in case anyone wants to stop by."

Raven gave them a reassuring smile before disappearing under the wings of her soul self.

Once in her room, she tossed her cloak aside and collapsed on her bed with a contented sigh.

"Oh bed how I've missed you."

She opened her eyes and eyed one of her terrifying masks engraved with a wide smile.

"But I've not missed you," she said as she turned her head and closed her eyes.

Just as her breathing began to slow down and even, she began to feel the discontent of her emotions. She groaned and sat up, tucking her legs into her lotus position. Closing her eyes she began her mantra.

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos."

Throughout her meditation, Raven felt the emotions of the other Titans go by her like passing cars, never staying long enough to disturb her. She calmed each of her emotions gently, each shaken by what had happened to their owner's body. Satisfied with its prolonged control and with the blood of the angel on its hands, Rage slept quietly in its cage. Raven couldn't help but be disturbed by the feeling of flickering embers in her chest, but attributed it to the memory of the last time she meditated.

She opened her eyes and the afternoon glow bordered her dark curtains. A look at her clock revealed that she had been meditating for 3 hours. Exhausted, she lay back down on her pillows and easily drifted into sleep even as she felt two masked eyes on her.

….

Robin leaned against the doorframe silently watching the sleeping girl. After having an internal debate over how creepy he was being, he shrugged aside the judgmental half and clung to the reasoning that he just wanted to see her at peace and not covered in blood. His eyes caught the rise and fall of her gentle breathing and for the first time in days, Robin relaxed. The tension slid off his shoulders and before he knew it, he was standing just a few feet from Raven's sleeping figure. Not even bothering getting under her blankets, she laid on her back, one arm draped across her stomach and the other laying palm-up by her head. Her violet hair spilled across the pillow, exposing her cheek and delicate neck as her head turned to face her palm.

The Boy Wonder couldn't help but watch as the sun leaked through her dark curtains and played on the demonic girl's silvery skin. He thought she looked like a gem glistening in the light and it was impossible to look away. He was pulled out of his trance when he heard Raven whimper. She was still asleep, but her eyebrow was furrowed. Robin reached out and gently ran his thumb across her brow and then trailed his fingertips down her cheek. He smiled when her face relaxed once more. The boy stood up and left the beautiful girl's room, not giving the smashed ceramic mask a second glance.

….

Raven was lying under the sun, its warm rays making her sleepy but content. She wasn't exactly sure where she was, but for some reason, that didn't bother her. She was just so warm, feeling like she was glowing from the inside out. She felt a smile on her face and the rays on her skin. Raven had never felt like a beacon of light before, always cloaked in darkness and shadows. She never felt happier. But then the sun began to feel too hot and the smile fell from her face. A cool breeze blew across her brow and down her cheek, but the relief was only momentarily. She felt the sun begin to burn her with its angry, fiery rays. The girl began to panic, positive she would burst into flames. She couldn't remember why she was so afraid of fire, but the intense heat suddenly terrified her.

She reached up towards the sun, reasoning that if she held it, had it under her control, it couldn't hurt her. She grabbed the ball up fire in between her index finger and thumb and brought it down. She held it to her heart and then abruptly shoved it into her chest.

….

Raven woke up with a start, breathing quickly. She swallowed and her breaths became slower and more even as she took in her surroundings. In my room at the tower. Calm down. Wiping the sweat from her brow, she looked at the clock.

3:16am

Remembering her dream, Raven brought a hand to her chest. She gasped and jerked her hand away when she felt the intense heat under her palm.

"What the…"

She jumped out of her bed and closed her door with a flick of her wrist. She stumbled as she quickly tore off her leotard and made her way to the mirror. She froze when she saw her reflection.

"Holy Shit."
