Chapter 34 – Open When You Need Me
Spencer and Emily walked along the beach hand in hand as Emily led them towards her next surprise. There was a silence between the two, but it was in a comforting and relaxing way, as though they were basking in the reunion of their relationship. Emily casually stole glances at the girl beside her, the smile on her face growing as she constantly saw the brunette eyeing the ring that now sat on her hand. If she had any qualms about whether or not the ring was good enough, they were put to rest but the admiration and Spencer had held towards the ring ever since she'd laid her eyes on it. Feeling the swimmer's gaze on her, Spencer managed to pull her attention away from the ring long enough to catch Emily's eye, a slight smirk coming across her face.
"What?" Spencer questioned softly, her voice raspy in a very sultry manner. It made the hair on the back of Emily's neck rise, and she bit her lip, turning away shyly. The girl's coy body language sparked curiosity in Spencer and she gently nudged the girl before pulling herself in closer to Emily, resting her head on the girl's shoulder. "Whaaaaaat?"
"Nothinggggg," Emily responded, her voice drawled out as much as Spencer had just done. The brunette gave Emily a look as though she was silently asking her to give her a better answer. No matter how many times Emily had experienced the look, she'd never been able to resist. Because not only was it this silent request, she also threw in a hint of puppy dog eyes that Emily always caved into. Sighing at the inevitability of what was to come, Emily didn't even bother trying to fight the brunette's gaze and caved. "Okay fine. I just… I dunno, I think it's cute how many times you've looked at your ring already."
Immediately after realizing that she had been caught, Spencer's eyes widened and she looked away; an action that Emily found absolutely adorable. She let out a soft laugh at the girl's reaction and dropped their clasped hands, putting her arm around Spencer's shoulder.
"I didn't think you noticed," Spencer spoke, still looking away shyly. Without even realizing she as doing it she looked down at the ring once more and it brought a smile to her face. She played with the ring on her finger once more before looking back up to Emily who was silently watching Spencer's actions. "It's just so beautiful, Em. Seriously it's perfect. How was it even made?"
"Mila's aunt owns a jewelry store Downtown right by that flea market we saw on the city tour. She was actually able to make it from scratch. Did you notice anything different about our spot today?" Emily questioned, and it took Spencer a little longer to clue in on what the girl was saying, because she was too focused on the swimmer referring to the secluded beach area as their spot. It elicited a warm feeling in her heart, and she felt it flutter immediately. After taking a few seconds to embrace the girl's words, she refocused her attention and began to think back to the spot they had left not long ago. Emily watched as she could tell Spencer was silently contemplating the question she had just posed to the girl, when suddenly a look of realization came over her face.
"The bench? You got rid of the bench?" Spencer questioned immediately. She wasn't sure whether or not it made her happy, knowing that the whole thing was gone, but that part of it was used to make the ring she was now wearing. Her thoughts flashed back to the special moment they had shared on that bench when Emily admitted she still saw them being married in the future, and the private moment she had after it. Emily could tell that she was deliberating over the information that Emily had just revealed to the girl. It looked like Spencer was having some sort of internal conflict, and Emily knew that as cute as she was, she could really put her out of her misery.
"Relax Spence, the bench isn't gone," Emily reassured as she took her arm away from around Spencer's shoulder and reached for Spencer's hand that had the ring on it. She gently took hold of the ring, slowly pulling it off and earning a look of confusion from Spencer. As she took hold of the ring in her fingertips, Emily smiled and looked back up at the girl. "The wooden part is made from part of the bench, yes, but it's still in tact. The only reason the whole thing was taken was because I wanted to make sure that this looked as much like the original as possible."
Emily turned the ring at an angle, allowing Spencer to look at what she was trying to show her, and when she saw it a smile immediately broke out onto her face. She placed her hands on top of Emily's as though she was making sure that what she was seeing was real. The swimmer slipped her hands from beneath Spencer's and allowed her to hold it on her own, the brunette's fingers now tracing over the inscription that laced the inside of the ring.
S + E A&F
"Spencer plus Emily, always and forever. How'd you know I saw that?" Spencer asked, caressing the engraving once more before looking back up at Emily.
"I didn't; it was more like wishful thinking on my part," Emily admitted with a shrug. Spencer looked at it once more, and quirked her eyebrow when she noticed something different about the inscription.
"You didn't include our last names," Spencer pointed out before putting the ring back on her finger and looking up at Emily who watched the girl with a sort of amusement on her face. "Why?"
Emily once again placed an arm around Spencer, pulling her in closely and nuzzling her face into the girl's long brown locks. She kissed Spencer on the side of the head, which earned her a playful squeal from the girl in her arms. They were now stopped in front of Emily's hotel room, and Spencer gently pulled away, turning so that she could wrap both of her arms around Emily's neck. Emily smiled at Spencer, resting her forehead against her girlfriend's and gently nudging the girl's nose with her own.
"Because, Spencer Hastings, we haven't decided if I'm going to take your last name, or if we're going to hyphenate," Emily explained. And just like that Spencer felt her heart skip a beat. The answer caught her off guard, not expecting it at all, but the feeling it gave her was indescribable. Hearing Emily talk about their future together, and the possibility of them getting married truly made her happy, and in that moment she knew that the best decision she had made in a while was giving Emily another chance. Spencer moved in closer to Emily, placing a soft kiss on her lips. It was short, but Spencer knew the effect it had on Emily when she pulled away and saw the look that came over the girl's face. Spencer moved her hand to the side of the swimmer's face, gently caressing her cheek.
"I don't care what we decide on, as long as you're the one that I marry," Spencer spoke. Emily nodded in agreement and placed her hand overtop of Spencer's, taking it in her own.
"One day, baby. Now come on, lets go inside."
Emily reached around Spencer's body and swiped her key card, waiting for the clicking sound to come from the knob. There was a beeping noise, and the light on the card swipe blinked green, signaling that the door was now unlocked. Emily twisted the handle, opening the door a few centimeters before stopping and turning back to Spencer. The brunette had an eager look on her face, but it didn't last long when she noticed the swimmer come to a halt. Spencer cocked her head to the side at her action, quirking an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Why are we stopping?" Spencer questioned, and Emily could tell by the undertone of her voice that she was impatient to see what was behind the door. It only made Emily smile even more, knowing how excited the girl was.
"I just wanted to see the look on your face," Emily admitted, leaning back on the door behind her to reveal the hotel room, which had now transformed into what was arguably one of the most romantic scenes Spencer had ever seen. The brunette's eyes widened, and a gasp slipped from her lips as she stepped forward, tears brimming in her eyes at the sight.
"Em…"
Looking at Spencer's reaction made Emily's heart flutter, and in that moment she could not have been more proud of herself. She pulled Spencer forward; coaxing the girl to enter before her, and Spencer silently complied, her eyes shimmering in amazement as she took everything in. The candles flickering in front of her eyes were the only source that dimly lighted the room, and the scent of roses filled her nostrils. There was a path made from the candles, and as Spencer approached them to follow it, she realized that they weren't real candles, but the electric ones, which made sense as real candles could have led to a fire. It made her smile, loving that Emily had put so much thought and effort into it, and when she stepped further into the room she understood where the scent was coming from. A countless amount of rose pedals were scattered along the floor's path, leading to the bed in front of her, which also had a few sprinkled over its sheets. Resting on the pillows of the bed were three things: an ice bucket with a bottle of wine and two wine flutes sitting inside of it, a gift box with a red bow around it, and lastly, a single red rose.
Emily stepped around her and walked over to the bed, picking up the single red rose and offering it to the girl in front of her.
"A single red rose, not only to tell you that I love you, but to promise you my life long love and devotion," Emily stated, and Spencer's thoughts immediately shifted back to the bouquet she bought the girl just one month before, recalling the card she had written to her previously.
Spencer shyly stepped forward and took the rose in between her fingertips, her heart skipping a beat at the action. Her hand fell to her side quickly, and she stepped forward, capturing Emily's lips in her own for the third time that evening. Their lips moved slowly against one another, and Spencer felt Emily wrapping her arms around the girl's waist, gently caressing her lower back. Spencer's lifted her arms to rest on Emily's shoulders, and the two were pressed against each other, the passion of their embrace becoming even more ignited.
Emily felt Spencer's tongue trace her bottom lift before making its way into her mouth, and upon feeling the more invasive contact she let out a soft moan. Their tongues collided sensually for the first time all evening, and Emily felt like it had been an eternity since they were last this intimate. The feeling of being this close to her again was overwhelming, and Emily found herself wanting more, but she knew she had to control her urges for just a little longer. Though she could already feel her body hating her for it, Emily forced herself to gently pull away from Spencer – an action that didn't agree with the brunette who pushed herself forward, trying to recapture the swimmer's lips.
"Spence wait," Emily breathed out, but was instantly stopped when Spencer's mouth attacked hers again. She smiled into the kiss, appreciating the girl's eagerness, and allowed herself to enjoy the feeling a little longer before pulling away once more. "Slow down Spence," she coaxed, her hold on the girl's waist tightening in order to keep her from lunging forward. "Trust me, I want nothing more than to continue that, which we can do after I give you one last thing. Come sit."
Emily pulled away from the brunette who was now panting in front of her, catching her breath. She reached up to Spencer's arms, which were still wrapped around her neck, and pulled them off from her, gesturing for the girl to sit down on the bed. Spencer gave her a smile and silently complied, her mind in a haze from the make out session they had just briefly engaged in.
"Sorry I got a little carried away there," Spencer said shyly, a tinge of red coming across her face. Emily smiled and took the seat next to the girl, giving her a look of reassurance to let her know that she had nothing to apologize for. As she sat down, she looked in front of her and took hold of the ice bucket that was leaning against the bed, silently gesturing to the bottle towards the girl.
"Do you want a glass?" Emily questioned, but Spencer was quick to shake her head no, so she took the bucket and placed it on the bedside table behind her before redirecting her attention to the box that was now the only thing left on the bed. A smile came across her face, recalling what was inside of it as she lifted the box. "This is for you."
"Em," Spencer started, taking the box in her hands with a look of appreciation on her face. "You really didn't have to get me anything."
Emily smiled, but shook her head.
"I know. Just open it Spence," she urged on, gently nudging the box once more. The two locked eyes, and Spencer gave her a coy look before sighing and proceeding to open the box. She undid the bow that sealed it shut, and lifted the lid off of the box to reveal a pile of envelopes. Spencer's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and she lifted one of the letters in her hands, her fingers tracing over the writing that was on the front of it.
Open when you've had a bad day.
Her mind peaked in curiosity and she picked up another one.
Open when you miss me a little.
She flipped through a few more.
Open when you get a bad grade.
Open when you need courage.
Open when we fight and it's my fault.
Open when you need to know how much I love you.
"They're called 'open when letters', and they're my way of showing you that come hell or high water we're going to make it. I know you're scared of what's going to happen come fall if we aren't together. And I'm scared too, but this is my way of showing you that no matter what, we'll find a way to get through it."
Emily shifted closer to Spencer, taking the girl's hands in her own as they locked eyes and she could see the unshed tears building in the girl's eyes.
"I know that there are gonna be days where you need me the most and I won't physically be able to be there for you, and I can't promise you that those days are gonna be easy for you, or me, or us. But I don't care how tough those days are. I want you to know that I would take the pain of those bad days for the happiness of all the good days we'll have together. So whether it's a day where you really need a pick me up, or a day where you feel like the distance is too much, or a day where you feel like a million bucks but I'm not there to share it with you in person, just read one of these letters and let me remind you that my home will always be where your heart is."
Spencer's tears were now flowing freely, and Emily reached up to the girl, gently wiping them away. She tenderly rubbed the skin of Spencer's cheek with her thumb, and kissed her forehead.
"I love you so much, Spencer Hastings," Emily whispered softly, their faces just inches apart.
"I love you too, Em," Spencer responded, leaning in and taking the girl's lips in her own. It started out sweet, and their lips meshed together, synchronously moving against one another. And while the brunette had initially intended for their kiss to stay that way, it wasn't long before she couldn't contain herself. "God, I love you so much," Spencer groaned, pulling away slightly so that she could take the box from in between them, putting it on the bedside table as she allowed herself to be pulled by Emily, straddling the girl in one swift motion.
[NC-17 WARNING]
Spencer hovered in front of Emily who was now leaned against the headboard of the bed, the two girls gazing into each other's eyes, and suddenly it felt like everything is different. Sure, they had made love many times before, but as Emily ran her eyes over Spencer's, she realized that she'd never seen the brunette's gaze this intense before. It consumed her fully, and in that moment she could not have been surer of herself, of their relationship, and of their future. And that was why there wasn't even a moment of hesitation as Emily wrapped her arms around Spencer's lower back and pulled her in to kiss her.
The second Emily's lips touched Spencer's, knowing that they fit perfectly together, she took Spencer's bottom lip in hers and gently sucked it until she felt Spencer shift and pull herself in even closer. Her hands moved from the brunette's lower back to her waist, holding her in place as she felt Spencer's lips smile into the kiss, Emily instantly mirroring it, their bodies now nearly flush together. She travelled her hands from Spencer's waist all the way up to her back where she felt along the fabric of her dress until she found the zipper, tugging it down with ease.
The contact of her hands on Spencer's bare back as the brunette shrugged the dress off drove Emily wild with desire, and almost instantly she could feel the heat build between her legs. She wanted more, and she knew by the way that Spencer was unconsciously grinding her hips into her torso, that she wanted it too. And for a second, Emily contemplated waiting; she contemplated not giving in to her desire because the feeling in that moment was the most amazing she'd ever felt in her life, and she wasn't sure she ever wanted it to end. But the contemplation was fleeting as she realized that she had a lifetime of moments to look forward to with the beautiful girl in front of her.
She knew that it was ridiculous to think she would have been able to resist in the first place anyways, because everything about Spencer was irresistible. Her lips were like magic, and the feeling of their skin together was like fire, and her touch as her fingers trailed down Emily's body, trying to pull her dress down was too powerful, and when Spencer pressed her lips even harder into Emily, it was like a revelation. A moment similar to when she first noticed the intensity in Spencer's eyes that let her know she stood no chance in resistance even if she wanted to.
So she gave in, and let her urges take over instead of overthinking every touch and movement she made. Emily rid the girl of her dress completely, not hesitating to slide her own off too so that the thin fabric of their underwear was the only thing separating their skin front coming into contact with one another as neither girl had worn a bra. Clothing tossed to the side, Emily lowered her hands to the curve of Spencer's ass, tightly gripping it between her fingers and pulling her in closer as if to help the girl as Spencer continued to lightly thrust against her. Upon feeling the action, Emily felt the hunger in Spencer's kiss as the brunette pulled her lower lip in between her teeth, nibbling it gently while her hands grazed Emily's thighs, softly tracing shapes along her skin. The touch alone sent a tingle down Emily's spine, and the wetness between her legs built even more.
Instantly, her hands moved up so that she could slip them beneath the fabric of Spencer's underwear, now grabbing the flesh and kneading it within her fingertips while their tongues still stroked against one another. The sudden skin to skin contact elicited a moan from Spencer, and she quickly pulled back to catch her breath, but was swift to kiss the girl once more, capturing her lips briefly before kissing a path down Emily's jaw and neck, her tongue tracing the bronzed skin.
Spencer trailed Emily's skin, and the swimmer couldn't help but arch her back forward, her hand slipping from the girl's underwear and down to her thighs as her fingers dug into Spencer's skin. It didn't last long though, as Spencer removed both of Emily's hands from her thighs and lifted them overtop of her head, holding them in place while she grazed her teeth along Emily's neck and collarbone, her tongue tasting the skin beneath it.
"Mmm, Spence," Emily groaned, panting heavily as she allowed the girl to explore her body for a few moments. She squirmed in place, embracing the feeling until Spencer brought her lips back up and kissed her roughly, the desire and need more evident than ever before. And the need was there in both of them, which was something Spencer knew, and something Emily knew she knew from the smile she felt against her lips as Spencer shifted her body and thrust her core deeper into Emily's lap.
It was almost too much, Spencer holding her arms in place, grinding against her as her tongue gently moved against Emily's, way too gently in comparison to her other movements. But it reminded Emily of how much Spencer wanted her, and the fact that it almost mirrored the amount of want she had for the girl too.
And so Emily embraced it, allowing all of the feelings to consume her as Spencer clenched her fingers around Emily's wrists briefly before she let go of the hold she had on them, her hands travelling down the girl's chest and resting there as they moved together. Her touch wasn't urgent or sloppy or animalistic. It was soft, and gentle, and affectionate, and Emily took a second to look forward and watch Spencer trace shapes across her bare chest, her eyes fluttering from the touch, her breath uneven. Their eyes met for a second, and it was a moment of stillness. Everything came full circle in that second, and it was as though they were seeing each other for the first time all over again.
"Spence," Emily breathed out, her voice a gentle whisper.
There was a flicker in Spencer's eyes and she pressed her palms flat against Emily's chest, slowly dragging them down to her abdomen as her chest rose up and down slowly, the swimmer trying to control her breathing. She slid them back up, rolling the pads of her fingers against Emily's nipples, and the raven-haired girl's back arched up as she bit down against her lower lip to control the moan that was fighting to get out. Her body felt like it's being set on fire, and Emily didn't even care because it was the most incredible feeling in the world.
Unable to hold back any longer, Emily finally moved her hands back to Spencer's thighs, tugging at the only fabric left on her body until Spencer rids herself of her underwear, Emily shortly following right after. She took hold of Spencer's waist and slowly shifted their position so that Spencer was now below her, and Emily hovered above the girl, looking deeply into her eyes. The gaze drew her in, and Emily bent down, pressing soft kisses along Spencer's jawline, from behind her ear to the centre of her chin, and then up to capture their lips together. Spencer let out a moan of pleasure, her hands now tracing up and down Emily's bare back as the swimmer let some of her weight drop down on the girl. And then suddenly they were bare chest to bare chest, moving against one another. Emily shifted her weight, her leg coming in between Spencer's to separate them and she pulled her lips away from Spencer's, quickly travelling down Spencer's body and tracing her tongue around her nipple.
"Em," she moaned breathlessly, her hands getting tangled in Emily's hair to hold her in place. She continued to focus her attention on one nipple, swirling the wetness around it and then taking it in between her lips and sucking on it. Her hand trailed down Spencer's abdomen towards the heat-radiating destination, and she stopped momentarily, redirecting her mouth's attention to the other nipple before continuing her journey. She could feel Spencer trembling beneath her with desire, and it prompted her to remove the contact of her lips from the girl, needing to see Spencer's face as she finally reached her destination. Emily propped herself up with one arm, and she straddled one of the girl's legs while looking down on her, biting her lip as she finally dipping her fingers into Spencer's sex for the first time.
A soft gasp was let out upon initial contact, and Spencer's hips jerked up almost instantaneously, the look on her face turning Emily on even more. Emily bit her lip in arousal, watching Spencer's eyes flutter shut as she slowly worked her fingers through the girl's wetness, barely grazing her clit to elicit the groan she knew would escape from Spencer's lips. Though it had been months since the two had been intimate, Emily never forgot how to touch her lover, and it was actions like that, that proved it.
The teasing of her most sensitive area didn't last long, and soon Spencer's own hand made her way down her body, grasping the girl's wrist and sliding it lower so that Emily's fingers were now hovering against her entrance. She lightly urged Emily inside, thrusting her hips forward simultaneously as though she was silently begging for it. The action caused a stir in the pit of Emily's stomach, and she could feel her own wetness rubbing against Spencer's thigh, turning her on even more. She was barely able to restrain herself any longer, and her movement halted long enough for Spencer to open her eyes, and for the two to lock eyes. Her heart raced as she saw the brunette's eyes darken with desire, and Emily leaned forward, their lips almost touching when finally Emily pushed her way into Spencer's entrance.
A shaky breath let out of the brunette's mouth, her eyes fluttering shut, lips trembling against Emily's as she allowed her body to adjust to the two fingers that were now dipped inside of her most intimate spot. She loosened her grip from Emily's wrist, slowly sliding her hand up the girl's arm until it was grasping against Emily's chest, right above her heart. Her breath was shallow against Emily's lips, and she kept her mouth there as she slowly thrust forward, simultaneously kissing her, her tongue grazing the swimmer's lower lip while allowing Emily to fill her completely. Emily was flooded with arousal at the feeling of Spencer's sex stretching to accommodate her fingers, and she couldn't help but grind down against the girl's thigh, the two now feeling sexual release simultaneously.
It was right then, the two embracing their synchronous pleasure, Spencer pulling back and staring so closely that Emily could almost see the stuttered and uneven breaths against her dry lips, that she felt herself fall in love all over again. Not that she ever felt out of love in the first place, but it was as though it was a second coming of pleasure reining over her body, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
The feeling was quickly interrupted however when Emily felt Spencer move against her hand for the first time, causing her to refocus on how it felt to finally be inside of the girl once again, her hand slowly moving inside of the girl as Spencer released the hold she had on the girl's chest, cupping the back of the girl's neck to keep their foreheads together, their lips joining now and again but not at the same rate that their bodies are now rocking together. And the act was so intimate, eyes locked, Spencer thrusting against Emily whose fingers were buried deep inside of her, in time with Emily's own thrusts against Spencer's thigh, both girls radiating with sexual fulfillment as light moans escaped their lips every now and then. The intimacy was almost overwhelming because it was then that the realization came over the two of how right it felt and how flawlessly their bodies fit together and how it felt perfect.
And they basked in that feeling with every thrust, every second their eyes fluttered open and closed as they slammed into each other's bodies, every time Emily's thumb stroked over Spencer's clit, and every time Spencer's hips jolted up in desire for more.
Spencer forced her eyes open, smiling up at Emily as though it was the best she'd ever felt in her life, and it sparked a force of want in the swimmer as she pushed a third finger inside of Spencer without dropping out of rhythm, earning a sharp moan from the girl. And it was like a chain reaction, Spencer feeling the need to thrust even harder, Emily grinding down further, and Spencer bringing their lips together, her tongue gently exploring the insides of Emily's mouth while the raven-haired girl moaned in satisfaction.
"Oh, Em. Oh God, Em," she groaned, feeling Emily's fingers shift inside of her, hitting the perfect spot, and holding it as Emily felt the girl begin to unravel beneath her. Her whole body trembled, and her eyes squeezed shut, sharp breaths brushing against Emily's lips. Spencer let out a whimper, and it sent a chill down Emily's spine, a burning desire to hear that sound again overwhelming her. So she continued to pump faster, tapping that spot over and over again, every whimper escaping from Spencer's mouth fueling the burning desire that in the pit of Emily's stomach. And as much as she wanted to drag out the feeling, to only hear the sound of Spencer's pleasure for as long as possible, Emily could feel Spencer contracting around her fingers, and she could feel herself so close to the edge.
"S-Spence, oh Spence," Emily stuttered, moaning against the girl's lips, the whimpers from Spencer letting her know that she too was so close. The pressure built within her stomach, and she could feel Spencer begin to unravel, her body becoming rigid, her walls clenching around Emily's fingers. And if that wasn't enough to push Emily over the edge, the sound of her own name coming from Spencer's lips, and the breathy moan she let out as her face became flush, eyes closed, lips pressed lightly against hers, warm breath invading her mouth as warm liquid covered her fingers was enough to do it.
She felt herself come undone on the brunette's thigh, her body shaking with pleasure as she pulled her fingers out of Spencer, collapsing on top of the girl, their bodies molded together while they collectively recovered from what felt like the most earth-moving experience of their lives. They panted heavily, fusing their lips together and holding that position while they came down from their high together. No words needed to be spoken in the moments after as Emily felt Spencer wrap her arms around her, the two cuddled into each other as they let sleep overwhelm them, finally together again.
[END OF NC-17]
Emily woke first the following morning, and it was the most gracious and comforting feeling to have the arms of the love of her life wrapped around her as she came out of her slumber. Her thoughts flashed back to the night before, and a smile graced her lips at how perfectly everything turned out. She could still feel Spencer's touch all over her body, never wanting to rid herself of it ever again, and knowing she would never have to ever again. Because she finally did it – she finally got the girl.
Emily internally squealed with happiness, feeling like her life was getting back on track once again, and more importantly, feeling whole once again. She carefully shift her body from on top of Spencer, holding herself up as she glanced at the bedside clock to see that it was already 10am, only an hour to check out. The thought of having to leave already made her quietly groan, the only upside being that most of their bags had already been packed the night before. She knew that the hour would be just enough time for she and Spencer to gather the rest of their unpacked belongings, and be ready to go right on time.
Though the last thing she wanted to do was wake the beautiful girl that slept beneath her, she knew she didn't have a choice. Especially because knowing their luck, Hanna would barge in unexpectedly and see them in their naked glory. Not that that would be the first time though. Reluctantly, Emily shifted her body weight off of Spencer, and the loss of contact was enough to stir the girl from her slumber, the once relaxed look on her face slowly disappearing as it contorted momentarily before Spencer's eyes fluttered open.
It was the best way Spencer could ever imagine waking up; Emily beside her, holding herself up while gazing at Spencer, looking more angelic that she did the night before (if that were even possible), a loving smile on her face. Spencer returned the smile, shifting her body closer to the girl and greeting her properly with a morning kiss, to which Emily happily reciprocated. They held each other's lips against one another, fully appreciating the embrace for a few moments until finally Spencer pulled back from Emily, resting their foreheads together.
"Morning, pretty girl," Spencer whispered out, her voice raspier than usual as she had just woken up. Emily brought her hand up to Spencer's cheek, stroking it gently and placing another soft, brief kiss on her lips.
"Morning, beautiful," Emily responded shyly, and the two stayed in that position for a few more moments before Spencer let out a sigh and pulled away, rolling onto her back.
"Last night was…" Spencer began, but was at a loss for words. There was no possible way for her to describe how it made her feel. She could use every word in the English language, but none of them would be good enough to explain it.
"I know, baby," Emily agreed, lying back down and snuggling into Spencer's side.
"Thank you, Em. It was the best night of my life," Spencer admitted, her words causing the swimmer to blush happily.
"Anything for you, Spence," Emily responded. She sighed, throwing an arm over Spencer's bare waist. "I just wish it didn't have to end so soon," she spoke, tracing shapes along the brunette's hipbone. "We've got like an hour before check out, and we both still have to pack the last of our things, shower, and meet the girls."
Spencer sighed, running her fingers through Emily's hair as the reality of the end of their vacation set in. It sucked, but she found a bit of happiness in the fact that she would be going back to Rosewood far happier than she was when she left. And that instantly made everything better.
"It does suck, knowing that it's almost over," Spencer agreed, exhaling deeply. "But y'know… We do still have an hour left," she stated, her tone changing instantly. "Which means we have about 45 minutes to shower together."
Emily's eyes widened and she instantly shot up from her spot, now looking down at Spencer to see if she was serious. The look in her eye said it all, and Emily licked her lips unconsciously.
"Race ya," Emily responded, shooting out of the bed and her bare body rushing over to the bathroom with Spencer hot on her heels.
The girls were now in the airport of Puerto Vallarta near their departure gate, killing what time they had left before they were expected to board the plane. Alison and Aria had gone with Spencer to get food, because for some reason, she and Emily didn't have time to eat before they had to catch the shuttle. So, Hanna and Emily sat near the gate with all of their carry on luggage as Emily had just finished filling Hanna in on the details of the night before.
"That sounds like such an amazing night, Em. I'm so happy you guys finally worked everything out," Hanna told the girl after Emily finally finished giving her the full play by play. Emily grinned and nodded in agreement.
"Me too. It feels good this time, you know? Like I have no doubts, no fears, nothing. It's just her and I, and any issues we come across we'll face together," Emily told her confidently. "I just can't believe we spent so much time fighting," she admitted, shaking her head at how ridiculous it all seemed now. "Wasted time that we could have spent just being together."
"You can't think of it like that though, Em," Hanna told her, seeing that the swimmer was almost regretting what had gone on in the past. "I think the break was something that you guys needed to make your relationship stronger, y'know? And now you guys see how silly it all was because you realize now just how true it is that you belong together. But you never would have gotten to this stage if you hadn't dealt with a little heartache," the blonde explained, throwing a supportive arm around Emily's shoulders. "You gotta take the good with the bad."
Emily nodded in understanding, smiling lightly as she leaned into Hanna's embrace, resting her head on the girl's shoulder.
"When did you get so wise, Han?" Emily asked jokingly, feeling the blonde's body shake beneath her as she laughed.
"I dunno, must be something in the Mexican air," Hanna joked, and the swimmer laughed along with her.
"Well, it's too bad we can't stay here long enough to see whether or not that's true," Emily spoke, letting out a sigh as she had just reminded herself that their vacation was almost over.
"Actually I'm kind of excited to get back to Rosewood. Don't get me wrong, this was an amazing vacation, but there's just so much to look forward to, it's kind of hard to dread going back," Hanna stated. Emily sat back up from the blonde's hold and quirked an eyebrow at her in curiosity.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we go back to school? Where's the fun in that?" Emily questioned, genuinely not understanding where all of Hanna's excitement was coming from considering the blonde loathed school. Hanna tilted her head back at Emily in response to her question, as though she wasn't sure if Emily was being serious or not. "What?" the raven-haired girl questioned, a look of confusion still on her face. "Did I miss something?"
"Oh my god, you actually forgot," Hanna let out in disbelief. Emily furrowed her eyebrows, feeling like she'd been completely left in the dark.
"Forgot what, Han?" Emily responded, her tone sharper as it began to frustrate her, not knowing what the blonde was referring to. Hanna let out a slight chuckle and shook her head.
"Oh Em, I really hope you have something left in your reservoir for Spencer," Hanna let out, the chuckle faint in her voice. Emily quirked her eyebrow at the blonde's words, still not understanding what she was getting at.
"It's repertoire. A reservoir is a source of water supply. Now will you please tell me what I'm missing?" Emily questioned in frustration. Hanna ignored the girl's correction, instead crossing her arms over her chest with a smug look on her face, knowing that the word she was about to utter was going to throw Emily for a loop.
"Prom."
And in that instant, Emily's eyes widened with panic as she swallowed an invisible lump that had just settled in her throat. Because fuck. It's less than a month away, and she forgot prom.
