Chapter 36

"Wow, Jason, that was wow." Sam stared up at him and let herself get lost in his eyes. She'd felt that kiss in the depths of her soul.

"Admittedly I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was pretty great for me too." Jason grinned down at her. He took his jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders when she shivered against the night air.

"Thank you," she smiled her thanks and wrapped his jacket around her.

Jason took a chance and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "I don't guess there's a chance we could skip out of here early is there?"

"We have to stay for a little while longer at least. Plus there are some people that you need to meet." She told him.

"I get the feeling that everyone is surprised that I showed up." He commented to keep the flow of conversation up.

"Let's just say this isn't your scene and leave it at all." She chuckled. "We should get back inside before my mom sends a search party out to make sure I didn't run away from this thing."

"Wait, let's just stay out here for a little bit longer before we have to go back in there and pretend to enjoy ourselves." His eyes pleaded with her to grant him that one request.

"Sure we can stay out here for a minute." She agreed. This was the closest they had been since his accident and she didn't want the moment to end just yet.

Lucky snuck off to the corner of the room when he felt a particularly intense craving hit him. He produced two pills from his jacket pocket and swallowed them down dry before anyone had a chance to see him.

"Lucky, what are you doing hiding out over here?" Claudia came out of the bathroom to see her husband huddled up in the corner alone.

Lucky jumped slightly because she had startled him and he pulled his phone out. "I was just going to call and check up on Cam to make sure everything is ok."

If she was suspicious of that answer she didn't let it show. "I just checked on Cam maybe a half hour ago when you went to the bathroom." She reminded him.

"With Helena running around I don't want to take any chances. I know that your dad's men are good, but she is in an entirely different league." Lucky covered his slipup quickly.

"Lucky, are you ok? Are you having withdrawals? If you are that's ok. Your body just needs to get regulated again." She was concerned for him. She didn't want to see him relapse.

"I'm fine it's nothing like that. I promise you." He pecked her lips chastely and took her hand. "Come on let's go find your sister and see if we can liven up this party a little bit."

"Jason, these are the people that I wanted you to meet. This is Dr. Alan Quartermaine and his wife Dr. Monica Quartermaine." Sam introduced Jason to his parents.

"Jason Bourne pleased to meet you. At least that's what my son calls me because I don't know my last name right now." Jason shook hands with his mother and father.

"It's good to see you looking so well, Jason. You probably don't remember, but I visited with you in the hospital right after your accident." Monica smiled at him.

"I'm sorry anything any longer than two weeks ago is very fuzzy at the moment. I get bits and pieces that come through, but nothing really tangible yet." Jason replied.

"That's alright. You just take your time you'll remember everything soon enough and even if you don't that's ok too. Everyone just wants to see you get better." Alan reassured him. He'd learned from the mistakes he'd made with his son the first time around.

"Jason, Monica and Alan are your parents. I know that you said you wanted me to help you piece this together and I still will. I'm a mother and I can't justify keeping you in the dark about that. You've had time to adjust to your current reality and now you know everyone accepts you the way that you are right now and doesn't want anything more than that." Sam explained. Something about the kiss had opened her eyes it was almost like she felt her Jason inside of him fighting to come to the surface and she knew he was ready to handle this.

"Sam, you didn't have to tell me that. I think I knew. He's looking at me the way I look at Lila and Jake. Like he cares about me and only wants to see me safe and happy. You're right it's time for me to try to get back to my life. I'll have you there to help me." Jason gave her hand a squeeze. "Monica, Alan, if it's alright with the two of you I would very much like to stop by with the kids whenever it is convenient for you."

"Oh, Jason, you and those adorable children of yours are welcome anytime. As far as I'm concerned that is your home too. You don't have to have an invitation to stop by. Your grandfather will be thrilled to see you. He's been so worried that you were going to pull away from us again after we'd just gotten you back." Monica gently cupped his cheek with her hand.

Jason looked at Sam confused.

"I can't remember now if I explained it to you, but you've had an accident like this before and it caused you to pull away from everyone. Your personality changed and you were very quick to anger. You didn't like who you'd become and you didn't like that no one could accept you weren't the man you used to be." Sam explained to him.

"I can see where that would upset me. I'm angry now that I can't remember enough of who I'm supposed to be to function. I want to be the man you want me to be as badly as you do. That's what I'm fighting for. It's right within my grasp every time I feel like I'm getting close it gets yanked away." Jason admitted.

"Don't worry about that right now. Now you focus on getting better. Your memories will come back when they are supposed to." Alan squeezed his shoulder affectionately.

"Sam, I hate to interrupt, but Alexis has had more than a few and Jax is here with the Queen Barbie. I think that you're about to have a situation. She's not listening to Stefan or Tina right now." Ethan came up and whispered in Sam's ear.

"I'll take care of it, Ethan. Thanks for letting me know." Sam nodded her head. "Jason, I hate to do this to you, but I need to go take care of my mom for a minute. I'll be right back."

Jason gave her a pleading look. He was out of his comfort zone anyway and her leaving his side would only make it worse.

"You'll be fine with your parents if you're uncomfortable they will understand. They know how much you hate these things. If you can't stay and talk to them go find Johnny or Patrick that way at least you'll be around someone you're comfortable with." She pecked his cheek before she walked away.

Jason stood there with a blank look on his face. "If you'll excuse me I'm going to go grab a drink and I will be right back."

"Jason, it's ok you don't have to come back over here. We've introduced ourselves and you know that you have a family out there pulling for you to get better. We understand. I also know how much you hate these things." Monica assured him.

"Thank you for understanding. And I was serious about bringing the kids over to see you." Jason said before he walked away.

"Excuse me, I really need to pay better attention to where I'm going." Johnny apologized when he bumped into someone and nearly spilled his drink.

"That's alright…" Maxie started to say. The smile that had been on her face morphed into a frown upon seeing Johnny. "Oh, it's just you. Watch where you're going, buddy."

"Still as bitchy and stuck up as you were this morning I see. That's a shame normally I'm better in bed than that. After last night you should be in a much better mood. See once my hangover wore off the details of last night came back to me and boy was I good. I was on top of my game or so I thought." He smirked.

"God, Johnny, look if we can just forget that last night ever happened that would be great. We obviously both had a little more to drink than we should have and we paid for it. We are friends and that's how it should stay." Maxie told him.

"I didn't hear you deny that we were good together. We both have urges that no one else is taking care of right now and we are both single. We didn't do anything wrong. Sure we both get on each other's nerves, but this is sex not a relationship. Here's my suggestion. I have a standing reservation in this hotel room five zero three. You can meet me there when this thing dies down I'll most likely be there all night there's no way that I can drive home." Johnny took a key card out of his pocket and slipped it into her hand. He walked away before she had a chance to put up a protest.

Olivia stood a little ways away and she had seen the interaction between the two young people. There was a stricken look on her face.

"A piece of advise for everyone's sake let him go. Unless it's love and it's worth the fight let him go. He needs to be with someone his own age and you're old enough to be his mother. This way no one ends up getting hurt and Dante and never finds out what happened between his mother and his brother." Sam said. She had been passing by on her way to find Alexis and she'd seen the whole exchange including the heartbroken look on Olivia's face.

"Shouldn't surprise me at all that you knew. You're very good at what you do after all. You're right it was fun while it lasted, but he's still a boy and while he's a good boy he's not worth the fight. He's not worth tangling up with Carly over something that isn't going to last. He made me feel like a teenage girl again and I suppose I should be grateful for that. But it was never meant to last it was just meant to let me know that I'm still desirable enough for men to want me." Olivia gave her a watery smile.

"You don't want him anyway. He's a pig when he wants to be and he doesn't clean up after himself. You want a man who is house broken." Sam made a weak joke.

"Thank you for keeping my secret." Olivia replied.

"Thank you for being there and giving him someone to turn to so he didn't do something stupid." Sam smiled and went off in search of her mother.

Jason accepted his bourbon on the rocks with a smile. He leaned over with his elbows resting on the bar. He took a gulp of his drink and sighed in satisfaction.

"You look like you're enjoying that more than anything in the world right now." Carly leaned against the bar next to Jason. She wore a green dress that accentuated her growing baby bump.

"This is the most enjoyable thing I've had tonight other than Sam's company of course." Jason replied.

"You absolutely hate being here don't you?" She laughed.

"More than anything in the world. How did you know?" He asked in reply.

"You hate these things and you typically do anything you can to get out of coming to them. The only way to get you here under normal circumstances is for Sam, Tina, and I to beg. If it makes you feel any better Sonny is as miserable as you are right now. You can come keep him company. Besides I'm your best friend I know you better than you know yourself." Carly informed him.

"I can why I hate these things. I still don't know whether I'm your friend willingly or if you're holding me hostage with your friendship like it's some type of threat. I should really stay here and wait for Sam to finish up whatever it is she's doing with her mom." Jason protested.

"Nonsense, Sam is a big girl and she will know where to find you. I don't think you've been introduced to your other best friend yet and I need to remedy that." She looped her arm through his and didn't give him any other choice than to follow her.

"Ok, I'm coming, I'm coming. It's not like you're giving me an option." He dutifully followed behind her.

"Look who I found over at the bar all by his lonesome." Carly told Sonny and Tina.

"Carly, you just saw him earlier there was no need for you to drag him away from his solitude." Sonny scolded his wife.

"She's fine, Sonny. It's nice to know that she cares enough about me to stalk my life." Jason chuckled.

"You're going to be sorry you said that. You have no idea how right you are. She has to know where you are at all times or she goes off the rails." Tina chimed in.

"Jason, this is your other best friend, Tina." Carly introduced them.

"Kristina Cassadine," Tina extended her hand to him.

"Jason Bourne," Jason shook her hand.

"I heard that my nephew has dubbed you Jason Bourne because you can't remember who you are." Tina laughed.

"Jake is your nephew?" Jason questioned.

"I'm Sam's aunt, but she's more like my baby sister." Tina explained to him.

"I thought Sam's last name was Davis?" Jason asked confused.

"That is something that I will let Sam explain to you. She will do a much better job of it than I could ever hope to. For now I'll just keep Carly from driving you insane like she usually does." Tina smiled.

"Alexis, I'm glad that I caught you alone. I've been working up the courage to talk to you all night and I didn't want to do it while Stefan was around. I really miss you and I want to come home." Jax had cornered his wife in hopes of having a civilized conversation with her.

"Jax, your actions aren't that of a man that misses his wife and wants to come home. If that were the case you wouldn't have shown up here with Brenda on your arm. Now is not the time or the place for this. I'm entirely too drunk for this right now." Alexis spit back at him. She swayed slightly on her feet.

"Lex, it's not like that. She wanted to come, but she didn't want to come alone. We are just two friends who happen to share a child that's it. You're my wife and the woman I love. I have been so incredibly lonely without you. I realize that I made a mistake and I would do anything in this world to take it back. For now the best I can do is try to make it up to you." Jax tried to take her hand.

Alexis snatched her hand away from him and sloshed her drink around in the process. "Don't you dare touch me right now, Jasper. All I've heard from you is a bunch of empty words void of action to back them up. You talk about how much you love me and how much you miss me, but you've done nothing to show me you mean it. Every time you've had the chance to choose me you've chosen Brenda."

"Jeeze, Alexis, I didn't think that you would be as touchy as Carly about this. I see where Sam gets it from now. You don't have to be threatened by the fact that we are friends or by the fact that we share a daughter together. He's not going to leave you just because I'm the mother of his child and you didn't give him any children." Brenda walked over and interrupted.

"Brenda, maybe you should try minding your own business. They are married this is between them. It has nothing to do with you. Just because you feel the need to have all the men in this town jump at your beck and call doesn't mean it gives you the right to interfere in their relationships. Now is not the time or place for this you aren't doing this. They are two married people who do need to have a talk that doesn't concern you." Sam came to her mother's defense.

"I still don't understand why you're so threatened by other women. Maybe if you hadn't let yourself go you wouldn't have anything to worry about it. It does concern me because I'm not going to let my daughter go somewhere that she isn't wanted or around anyone that is going to bad mouth me to her." Brenda shot back.

Sam got up in her face. "First of all I'm pregnant not fat. Second of all it doesn't concern you this is their marriage it was between them. Third of all you are so lucky I have no desire to have this baby in prison or I'd mop the floor with your skinny ass. And last but not least I'm not threatened by you or any other woman and I never have been. You just couldn't stand the fact that I can be friends with a man without spreading my legs for him." She wheeled around and glared at Jax. "And you for someone who claims they want a second chance so badly, you're not doing a whole lot to show it. I can't believe that you're just going to let her talk to your wife that way." She grabbed her mom's hand. "Come on, mom, we're leaving."

"Jason, you're getting your wish we are leaving early." Sam said when she walked over to the group with Alexis.

"Sam, you have enough on your plate tonight. Leave Jake and Lila where they are and we will drop them off with you in the morning. Alexis needs you tonight." Sonny instructed his daughter.

"Thank you, daddy, I appreciate it." Sam kissed his cheek. "Jason, can you help my mom walk? I would do it, but I can barely hold myself up."

"No problem," Jason took Alexis' hand and led her to the elevator.

"I've got pizza, wings, and ice cream," Jason walked into the penthouse carrying a grocery bag and a pizza box. After he'd helped Sam put Alexis to bed upstairs he'd gone back to his place to change and go pick up some food.

Sam sat on the couch in a t-shirt and a pair of sweats. "Thank God, I'm starving. You're starting to know me a little too well."

"Apparently the guy at the pizza place knows this number by heart and when I called he asked if I wanted the usual and I said sure." Jason chuckled. "How's your mom?"

"We've been through this I can't cook we live off of takeout." She laughed as well. "She will probably be a little hung over in the morning, but she'll be fine. I had to get out of there or I would have knocked Brenda out."

"I could see that happening." He walked into the kitchen and retrieved some plates. He grabbed a beer for himself and a soda for Sam. He sat the food down on the coffee table and opened it up. He made them each a plate. "There you go." He handed her plate to her.

She rested her plate on her stomach. "This was a lot easier before I was fifty-seven and a half months pregnant."

"This would be a lot easier if you had a dining room table." He commented. He took a seat on the couch beside her.

"Dining room tables are overrated I have a pool table." She hooked her thumb in the direction of the pool table.

"You are one unique woman, Sam Davis." He replied.

The two ate in comfortable silence. After they had finished eating Sam got out an old photo album and showed him pictures of the two of them from when they were younger.

"I really like the color black don't I?" Jason asked. It seemed that in almost every photo of them he was wearing a black t-shirt.

"We both do. Maxie refuses to let us dress our own daughter because she doesn't want Lila to have our fashion sense." Sam replied.

"I think that we both happen to be very stylish." Jason joked.

Sam stared into his eyes. "About what you said out on the balcony earlier. I'm falling for you too, Jason. I didn't say it back and I should have." She leaned over and kissed him passionately. It was like falling in love with him all over again and she was enjoying every minute of it.

Alexis made her way down the stairs the next morning dressed in a pair of Sam's pre pregnancy pajamas. She surprisingly didn't have a hangover. She smiled a little to herself when she saw Sam passed out on the couch in Jason's arms. She picked the blanket up off the couch and covered them up with it. She quickly opened the front door when she heard keys jingling in the lock.

Carly was on the other side of the door with Jake on her hip and Lila stood beside her. "Hey,"

"Carly, you're not supposed to be lifting and you know that." Alexis took Jake from her.

"Why are you whispering?" Carly asked.

"Because Sam and Jason are both asleep on the couch and I don't want to wake them." Alexis told her.

Carly looked like she was about to burst with excitement.

"Let's take these two to breakfast and then you can squeal as loudly as you want to." Alexis held her finger up to keep her quiet for just a minute. She grabbed her purse and her phone before she left a note for Sam to let her know she was ok.

It was another hour before Sam and Jason stirred.

"Good morning, Jase," Sam smiled up at him.

"Morning, Sam," Jason kissed her forehead.

"So, about last night?" Sam broached the subject.

"Last night was absolutely amazing." He ran his hand up and down her back.

"I don't want you to get the wrong impression of me or think that I'm that kind of girl." She snuggled into his chest.

"Sam, it's not like I'm some strange man that you just picked up in a bar or something. I'm two of your children's father and we obviously have feelings for each other. We've been together almost every moment of the last couple of weeks. So technically that doesn't make you the girl that puts out on the first date that makes you the girl that puts out on like the twenty-first date." He joked.

"I can't believe that we snuck into the guest room like a couple of teenagers because my mom was asleep in my room. Thank God the kids weren't here." She laughed.

"It was adventurous and fun and totally worth the risk. Do you regret?" He asked.

"No I don't regret it. Do you regret it?" She replied.

"I don't for one second regret it. It felt right to me." He kissed her on the lips.

"It felt very right." She mumbled against his lips. "I just don't want to complicate anything or confuse you."

"I'm not confused about a damn thing. Sam, I don't need your help to piece this one mystery back together anymore. I'm your husband I have to be if I weren't there's no way you would have spent the amount of time making sure that I'm ok and checking up on me." Jason was pretty sure that he had it figured out.

"Are you sure about that? Did you have a memory?" Sam asked him teasingly.

"No, I didn't have a memory I'm sorry. But I don't need a memory to tell me that I love you and that you are my better half. You've been way too patient and kind with me for us to just be friends. You only do all the things you've done for me for someone that you love. I know I said that I didn't want to know details or complicate things and I still don't want that. Let's just agree that we don't know what is going to happen next." Jason replied.

"I'll agree to that if you can agree that you'll let me help you figure it out. That also means what happened last night probably shouldn't happen again until you get your memories back. I don't want to seem like I'm taking advantage of you." Sam kissed him.

"You can't cut me off after you gave me just enough to make me want more." Jason protested.

"I absolutely can and there is nothing that you can do about it. We need to just take things as they come and not complicate them with sex. " Sam retorted.

"We can work on jogging my memory and taking things as they come while still having sex and we will be just fine." Jason pinned her underneath him careful to keep his weight off of her.

"I think I can make an exception to that rule this morning and then the rule goes into effect after. Only if you love on your little dude first though, daddy." Sam took his hand and put it on her belly.

"I knew it was a boy." Jason rubbed her belly lovingly. "Hey, little dude, give daddy the world's tiniest high five." He laughed when his son kicked his hand.

Sam just smiled up at him happy that things seemed to be getting back on track.

A/N: Here is the next chapter I hope you guys enjoyed it. I threw in some good stuff as an apology for not updating in so long. For those who say that Jason isn't acting like Jason right now that's because he's not Jason. He's not an idiot and I'm not trying to portray him as one, but he isn't himself right now, not to worry though I'm getting him back on track and I have some great things coming down the pipeline just be patient with me. Until next time please review.
