Chapter 33: Fairies that Breakthrough

"This is a bad idea," Elsa stated rubbing her hands together nervously. "You haven't even walked in yet," Jack smiled with one hand in his royal blue, rain coat, pocket the other holding his staff. She stayed stiff at the entrance of Sandy's café, barely blinking, Jack rolled his eyes and opened the door, hooking the crook of his staff around her waist and pulled her in.

The sound of the bell made Hiccup lift his head. Gobbler's place was empty, minus him, the owner and a few workers. Astride took a seat next the brunette. They sat in silence for a moment. Hiccup kept his interest on the wooden mug in his hand. Astrid looked away to find the words she wanted to use. "Thought I'd find you hiding in here," She attempted to joke. "Not many places to hide when you're me," Hiccup replied drily. She gave a dry laugh of her own, "You got me there. You've got little to no privacy." Hiccup rolled his eyes," Thank you. For pointing out the obvious Astrid. As you never fail to do." He stated sarcastically. "Well than you obviously know why I'm here," She smoothly replied with calmness. Hiccup stayed silent.

So Astrid spoke up, "I know you're angry, and that you and Mérida bump heads, but she was only trying to_" "I know what she was trying to do," He interrupted. "But that's not why I'm mad." He began to explain, as his voice began to wafer with piled up emotions. "I mean it's not just Mer, it's, it's my dad, and it's almost everyone! They all think because I'm the mayor's son I can do no wrong! Which is a serious contradiction to the way everyone treated me for the first Fifteen years of my life! As if I could do nothing right! And when I finally prove that I am something; that people can believe in me! They expect everything, when I'm just learning what that something is! I mean who, who tells their son, drills it into his head for like months after his 17th birthday, that it's time to think about becoming mayor. It took months to actually believe I could possibly be the next mayor. But how am I suppose be mayor of anything, when no one thinks the decisions I make are the right ones?!" He exclaimed by the end of his rant.

Astrid was silent for a moment, she gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "Hiccup... Not everyone is expecting you to be ready." The brunet huffed, "Yeah but everyone important to me does. And I get why they do, but what I don't understand is how can they have such faith in me to do that, but don't think the things that happened, happened because of what I did. I'm man enough to own up to my actions, and my dad and Merida won't let me," His last words were soft. He looked at his hands placed motionless in his lap. He gave a sad chuckle, "What's really funny, is that the people trying to look out for me, care too much to let me look out for myself. Mer wants to be my anchor. She knows that I have my flaws and that some of them still weigh on me. I love her for always being there. Telling me what I need hear, when I need to hear it. Letting me be me. But she doesn't want me to get hurt, she doesn't want anyone she loves to get hurt." He shrugged, "I can't blame her, after seeing the things my home put me though I'd be protective too. But it just felt nice ya know. To meet someone, who saw me as who I am now. Not who I was, of what I was gonna be." Astrid looked at her best friend, "You mean Jack."

Hiccup nodded. "You, Rapunzel and Merida will always be there for me. I've got no doubts about that, it just felt nice to meet a guy that could understand the messed up mind of a teenage boy and say "it's no big deal. Just do you." He gave me an opportunity to make my own decisions when I felt like I had none. I know I'm still looking for who I am, I just wish everyone would let me." He went silent.

Astrid did as well, looking at him. Looking for words again. The right words. "When you stopped Dagger's uncle from falsely accusing your dad for tax money embezzlement. The town had faith in everything going back to normal. We were so stuck in living in the past, while you were looking at the future. You looked at all the things in the case we ignored, because it was against our norm. Ya nearly died doing something crazy, but you saved the town, saved your dad and showed everyone who you were." She played with his hair. They were interrupted by someone clearing their throat.

Both looked up to see Gobber. "Astrid, ah've got a few boxes of the items yer mum ordered. Mind gettin'em for me?" He motioned to the back. She gave him a confused look, but nodded getting up. The older man directed her to where they were and waited for her to leave. He took a seat in front of Hiccup. The teen looked weary, but kept his eyes locked on the old man. "Ah've known ye dad since we were wee devils. And I know he loves ya and the things he does is out of care, but ya gotta talk to'em lad. Only you can make'em listen."

He began and went on to tell him everything that happened the afternoon of the fight. What his father said to Jack and what he and Jack discussed in the car. Astrid heard it all and immediately upon hearing the shuffling feet behind the kitchen door, she rushed out seeing the brunet half way out the door. "Hiccup! What are you gonna do?" She asked worriedly. A dumb smile found its way to his face, "Something crazy," he replied. Astrid frowned in a bit of confusion "Ya already did that genius." He laughed, "Then something stupid," and rushed out the door. The blonde smiled, "Now that's more like it."

"Okay. What do ya got?" Jack asked with a smile. Elsa signed into her tea in frustrated embarrassment. "Jack this was silly, there's no one_" She was cut off, "You can't say there aren't girls because I hear plenty of giggles. And feel the holes being burned into the back of my head. I know they can't all be guys, so..." He kept his smirk as she pouted her lips out in annoyance. She signed in defeat and began, "We've been here for almost an hour and_" He interrupted again, "You haven't found anyone who suits your fancy? Or are you to occupied being enamored with our waitress?" He smirked. "Wha... What?! I'm not enamored!" Her voice trembled with embarrassment. Jack nodded his head looking at her, "Yeah and I haven't heard your voice hitch like every time she asked for a refill. Which she has done four time since we've been here." He stated bluntly.

Elsa rolled her eyes, "Look, just because she's came to our table few times doesn't mean_" "That she's coming back," He smirked hearing her footsteps come closer to their table. "Can I get you two anything," She asked with a bright smile in her voice. Jack smirked and opened his mouth the say something, however another voice called they're waitress intercepted him. "Oh my gosh Peri! You won't believe what I found at the Pan's place!" A bubble blonde exclaimed running in with a handmade sack full of things. "Tink! Hey, give me a minute I go on break in like five minutes," The waitress replied in a surprised and frazzled stated. "Sorry about that," She smiled embarrassingly at the two. Jack nodded while Elsa waved off the moment saying "Its fine! Really." Jack could her the embarrassment in her voice as well. And took note of this new voice as well, however found it familiar.

He turned his head to the blonde, "I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but have we met before? Your voice sound very familiar." The blonde looked at Jack and squinted her eyes in thought. She gasped, "Oh my gosh! You're the guy I ran into two days ago? Jack, Jack Frost right!?" She smiled Jack nodded with a smile of his own. "Tinkerbell, right? You also broke my ear piece," He noted in a joking tone. "Which I also fixed that same day! Which again I'm totally sorry for," She said with an apologetic smile. Jack waved it off, hearing Peri sigh with relief, "Well I guess I'm on break now." She stated more so to herself. She looked at Elsa and Jack, "Sorry, I can still get you guys something if you want anything." Elsa was about to say no, but Jack stood. "Actually I think Tink showed up just in time, I'm having a bit of an am having an issue with my ear piece. Mind if I borrow her for a moment, to look at it? It won't take long I promise," He gave his signature smile at both girls, making them blush ever so slightly. "Of course not," They said together, and glanced wide eyed at each other then back at Jack. "Great! Mind if I ask one more favor? Ya see my friend here will be all alone and seeing as you're going on break and she'll have no one to talk to, mind sitting here and keeping her company?" He asked smoothly.

Elsa nearly spit out her drink and gaped at Jack, "Ah… no! I mean you don't have to do that… I mean I don't want you to waste your break time on me, I mean…" She stumbled with her words, blushing and side eyeing Jack. Peri glance away with a blush to her own cheeks and spoke softly, "Actually… well I was wondering if I could, maybe talk you… I mean it's not every day I get to meet Elsa Arendell_". Tinkerbell gasped with wide eyes at the older teen, "Oh my gosh you are Elsa Arendell! Peri's like your biggest ice art fan!" She blurted out. "Tink!" Periwinkle exclaimed in mortification her pale face turning an even brighter, cherry pink. "Oh! ... Did, did I just say that out loud?" The blonde asked with an uneasy smile.

Peri cover her face with both hands, while Elsa took a sip of her drink to hide her own red face. All three sat in awkward silence, while Jack failed at holding in chuckling fit. He cleared his throat, "So… Tink, about that ear piece?" He asked, she quickly saw the opening and took it. Her voice was high and body stiff, "Yes, I can totally look at it, let's go to the bar." She hurried off. Before fallowing Jack stepped aside and held his seat open for Periwinkle, which she took elegantly, if not still a little apprehensive.

Making his way to the bar he leaned against it, while standing next to Tinkerbell. After she ordered a drink she glanced back at the two and gave a sigh of relief, "Oh thank god they're talking." Jack chuckled, "I know right. I at least thought they'd sit in silence for another awkward minute." She nodded thanks for her drink and looked at Jack, "So, your ear piece?" She asked holding out her hand to see it. Jack didn't even look at her as he replied, "Oh I don't need it fixed. I don't even have it with me. I just saw an opening and needed a set up," he explained. Tink turned her seat around, "To get those two alone?" she asked in realization. He nodded, "They've been dancing around each other since we walked in, and Els needed a push she wasn't given herself so… I nudged her bit." He shrugged. "I didn't even know she swung that way, "Tink stated looking at the two. "So what's it like having a twin?" Jack asked to keep the conversation going.

He didn't want to appear as if they were spying. "How'd you know? I thought you were blind?" Tink asked saying the last part a bit softly. "I am. But you sound too in synch when you speak at the same time not to be identical. Also your voices sound the same minus one octave higher than the other. Twins was the only conclusion I could come up with for you two, to sound the way you did." He explained. Tink stared at him a bit star struck, "And you're sure you don't have your hearing aid?" She arched an eyebrow. He laughed and checked his ears, "Yeah their plug free so I'm pretty sure. Sometimes I do forget they are there. Always end up paying for it when some loud noise jumps out at me." He chuckled thinking out a past indecent with a car alarm back home. Tink understood him, "It's alright. We use to switch hair styles and trick people when we were younger. But Peri got a haircut and the white color of her hair really started to grow in, making it her own thing and I decided to grow my hair out and one thing lead to another and we weren't as identical as we once were. But that kinda makes being twins a little easier," She laughed fondly at the thought of it all.

There was a pause and her head whipped over to look at Jack, with wide eyes. He could feel her eyes on him and turned to her with an arched eyebrow, "What?" he asked. "How did you do that?!" She demanded, gripping her cup a little tight. "Do what?" Jack asked again, honestly confused. "Get me to tell you like, half my life story?!" She exclaimed getting over excited, causing some people to look at them. "Oh. Yeah," he shrugged, "It's kinda my thing. Not having eyes makes me a pretty good listener and people tend to just talk," He explained casually. Tink gasped and eyed him, whispering "Is it like a super power?" Jack laughed and shook his head, "I wouldn't say that. Just something that happens when I meet new people is all. I'm used to it by now." "Hmm, well if I had that ability I'd totally be a superhero," She gave a weak laugh and took the final sip of her drink.

Jack found himself giving a weak chuckle too, "Yeah I suppose that would be a good superhero ability. However, I don't know how useful a blind superhero will be." He thought out loud, Tink nearly spit out het drink, "Are you kidding?! Have you ever heard of the blind swordsmen, or Daredevil?!" She exclaimed in excitement. Jack looked a bit surprised at her comparison of the two, but gave it some thought and felt a smile reach his face. "I suppose that they are protectors, but I wouldn't say superhero," He shrugged. Tink nodded and said, "I mean not a superhero exactly, but their shire amount of badass abilities used to help those who need it are just like heroes," She retorts.

The two then began a short discussion of the possibility of the blind swordsmen being a superhero compared to Daredevil, but stopped when Jack heard Peri laugh along with Elsa. He held up his hand in to stop Tinkerbell from talking. A victorious smile spread across his face and Tink looked at him in confusion. "What?" She asked looking over at her sister and Elsa's table as Jack pointed to it.

She grinned seeing her sister cover her mouth to laugh. "It's like their on a date… my god. You were right?" She said in a bit of awe. Jack just nodded, "You should've seen their awkward dance it was horrible." The blonde laughed, "I totally believe it. My sis has always been really shy about starting relationships. She's really admired Elsa in the art world, after she saw one her first ice art exhibitions in middle school. She's wanted to go to Berk Academy, but our parents could only afford Hook High. It still has a nice art program, but not like Berk's. We're hoping to transfer next year, if we can both get on a scholarship would be amazing." She said with a fond smile. Jack placed a comforting hand on hers and gave a reassuring smile, "You will." Tink looked at him and nodded in agreement. Both heard sound of Elsa and Periwinkle's laughter and turn to look at them.

Tink sighed," As much as I don't wanna break that up, Peri and I gotta get going. Her breaks only an hour long and I wanted to show her something. It's for her latest ice sculpture." Jack nodded, "Don't worry about the drink I'll get it for you." Tink frowned, "Are you sure? I ordered it." He shook his head and waved her off, "Go ahead. It's the least I could do for using you to set your sister up with my friend." Tink laughed, and nodded, "Point taken." She stood while Jack paid for their drinks and listened to her go.

He heard Tink clear her throat getting the two girls attention. As the two made their exit Peri and Elsa said their last goodbyes and Jack walked up to the table. "So, again, you're NOT enamored with our Periwinkle waitress?" He teased standing behind her. She pouted her lips with a frown and watched him sit, with a smug smile on his face. They remained silent for a few seconds till Elsa took a deep breath and spoke, "I got her number." Jack just laughed, with an unsaid "I told you so."
