Enter Luke and Leia, in Mos Espa.
Moranda. Luke. Stop.
Jinzler. What's wrong?
Moranda. There's someone there, someone watching us. I can tell. There, over by the bushes.
Luke and Leia freeze.
Jinzler. Are you sure?
Moranda. I saw something move. I could have sworn I did.
Leia breaks free from Luke.
Jinzler. We look mundane.
Moranda. Mundane who have just been laying flowers on your parents' grave. Luke, I'm sure there's someone over here.
Luke looks over.
Jinzler. It's a womp rat or an eopie. If it were Sith, we'd be dead already. But let's get out of here. And we can put the cloaking device back on.
Luke and Leia slip under the cloaking device and move on through Mos Espa.
Moranda. How are we going to find Voren's house?
Luke stops, staring at the house before him, the house where he was born.
Luke? What do you think, Luke? Luke . . .
Jinzler. Look . . . look at it, Leia. . . .
Moranda. I don't . . . O!
Leia notices the ruins of the Skywalker cottage.
I wonder why nobody has ever rebuilt it?
Jinzler. Maybe you can't rebuild it? Maybe it's like the injuries caused by the dark side.
Luke approaches the Skywalker cottage.
Moranda. You're not going to go inside? It looks unsafe. It might . . .
A sign rises out of the ground, accompanied by a holographic image of Voren Na'al.
Oh, Luke. Look.
Na'al. On this spot, on Halloween night of 19 BBY, Padmé and Anakin Skywalker lost their lives. Their son Luke remains the only being ever to have survived Force Kill. This house, invisible to the mundane, has been left in its ruined state as a monument to the Skywalkers and as a reminder of the violence that tore apart their family.
Exit Na'al.
Luke and Leia take notice of the graffiti written on the sign in High Galactic.
First Message. May the Force be with you, Luke, wherever you are.
Second Message. If you read this, Luke, we're all behind you.
Third Message. Long live Luke Skywalker.
Moranda. [indignant] They shouldn't have written on the sign.
Jinzler. It's brilliant. I'm glad they did it.
Enter Maul, hiding within the Noghri body of the recently deceased Voren Na'al.
Maul beckons to them.
Moranda. How does he know?
Luke shakes his head.
Jinzler. [to Maul] Are you Voren?
Maul nods and beckons.
Luke and Leia exchange look. Luke raises his eyebrows; Leia nods.
Invisible, Luke and Leia follow Maul.
They approach the house of Voren Na'al. Maul fumbles with the keycard to get it open.
Luke and Leia remove the cloaking device and follow Maul into the house.
Maul turns to face Luke.
Voren?
Maul nods, then vanishes into the sitting room.
Moranda. Luke. I'm not sure about this.
Jinzler. Look at the size of him. I think we could overpower him if we had to. Listen, I should have told you. I knew he wasn't all there. Tiion called him senile.
Na'al's Voice. Guvvuk.
Leia jumps. Luke, however, understands the word to mean "move" and mistakes the Yuuzhan Vong as Basic.
Jinzler. It's okay.
Maul lights the glowrods, as Luke and Leia walk in.
Luke clears away the dust in his house with the Force, then freezes at the sight of one of the holographs: a holographic image of Hego Plagueis.
Academician . . . Professor Na'al? Who is this?
Maul does not answer.
Professor Na'al? [indicates the holograph] Who is this being?
Maul glances at Plagueis.
Do you know who this is? This Muun. Do you know him? What's he called?
Maul just stares.
Who is this being?
Moranda. Luke. What are you doing?
Jinzler. This holograph, Leia, it's the thief, the thief who stole from Rahm Kota. [to Maul] Please. Who is this?
Maul just stares.
Moranda. Why did you ask us to come with you, Academician Na'al? Was there something you wanted to tell us?
Maul approaches Luke and gestures.
Jinzler. You want us to leave?
Maul gestures again.
Oh, right. [to Leia] I think he wants me to go upstairs with him.
Moranda. All right. Let's go.
Maul shakes his head.
Jinzler. He wants me to go with him alone.
Moranda. Why?
Jinzler. Maybe Yoda told him to give the vibrosword to me and only to me?
Moranda. Do you really think he knows who you are?
Jinzler. Yes. I think he does.
Moranda. Well, okay then. But be quick, Luke.
Jinzler. [to Maul] Lead the way.
Luke follows Maul upstairs.
Exit Leia.
Luke lights the area with the Force.
Maul. Yam pryozz Skywalker? (You are Skywalker?)
Jinzler. Dwi, nikk pryozz. (Yes, I am.)
Maul nods.
[in Yuuzhan Vong] Have you got anything for me? Have you got anything for me?
Maul closes his eyes and communicates with his Master, Lord Sidious.
Luke's scar sears with pain and Exar Kun's amulet twitches.
Sidious's Voice. [in Yuuzhan Vong] Hold him.
Jinzler. Have you got anything for me?
Maul. [in Yuuzhan Vong] Over here.
Luke raises his lightsaber and heads to the area where Maul indicates.
Jinzler. What is it?
Maul. There.
Luke looks away.
Na'al's body crumples, and Maul reveals himself. The amphistaff lunges at Luke.
Luke falls backward, his lightsaber pointing away from Maul, falling out of his hand.
Luke rolls sideways, narrowly avoiding Maul. The amphistaff thrashes against the table, shattering the transparisteel.
Moranda's Voice. Luke?
Maul pins Luke to floor.
Jinzler. Puul. (No.)
Maul. [in Yuuzhan Vong] Dwi. Hold you. . . . Hold you. . . .
Luke tries to pull his lightsaber toward him, but he cannot concentrate with the amphistaff pressing against him. The amulet presses harder into Luke's chest. The terrified Luke senses Sidious drawing nearer, flying already toward Mos Espa.
Enter Leia.
Maul pulls away from Luke, striking at Leia. The Alderaanian woman dives out of the way, throwing a Force blast at Maul. Luke stands and trips on his lightsaber, then picks it up.
Leia sends the amphistaff back with the Force. As Maul comes his way, Luke raises his lightsaber.
Jinzler. [in Basic] He's coming, Leia. He's coming!
Maul hisses wildly and advances on Luke. Luke dodges and grabs Leia and pulls her onto the bed. As Maul lunges at the rebels, Leia sends a Force blast at the amphistaff, inadvertently shattering Luke's lightsaber and throwing transparisteel everywhere.
Enter Sidious.
Luke and Leia leap out the window and Force Travel.
Exit Luke and Leia.
Sidious screams with rage, and in that moment, flashes back to the last time he was here, marching through Mos Espa.
Sidious walks through the Mos Espa at night.
Enter Youngling.
Youngling. Nice costume, Master.
Sidious stares at the youngling coldly and without emotion. The boy's smile falters. Sidious reaches for his lightsaber.
Sidious. [aside] One simple movement and the boy will never reach his mother . . . But unnecessary, quite unnecessary.
Exit Youngling.
Sidious approaches the Skywalker cottage.
Enter Anakin Skywalker, with the young Luke Skywalker.
Anakin amuses Luke by making puff of smoke with the Force. Luke laughs.
Enter Padmé Amidala.
Padmé. Time for bed, Luke.
Anakin hands Luke to Padmé.
Exit Padmé with Luke.
Anakin relaxes on the couch, setting his lightsaber down beside him.
Sidious approaches the house and blasts the door open.
Anakin runs into the room.
Anakin. Padmé. Take Luke and go. It's him. Go! Run! I'll try and hold him off.
Sidious laughs and aims his dark side blast.
Anakin dies.
Padmé screams and tries to barricade herself in.
Sidious steps upstairs and, lightsaber raised, blasts the barriers back.
Padmé leaps in front of Luke.
Padmé. Not Luke. Not Luke. Please not Luke.
Sidious. Stand aside, you silly girl. Stand aside now.
Padmé. Not Luke. Please no. Take me. Kill me instead.
Sidious. This is my last warning . . .
Padmé. Not Luke. Please have mercy. Have mercy. Not Luke! Not Luke! Please . . . I'll do anything.
Sidious. Stand aside. Stand aside, girl.
Sidious aims his dark side blast.
Padmé dies.
Sidious approaches Luke.
Luke watches Sidious curiously, then cries.
Sidious aims his dark side blast at Luke.
The deadly blast backfires, draining away Sidious's life.
Using essence transfer, the Emperor manages to stay alive, his spirit abandoning his mortal body, which crumples and dies.
No . . .
Exit Sidious.
